Shinigami Application
In Character
--------------------
General Information
--------------------
Name: Yoh Hanran
Actual Age: 150
Appearing Age: 15
Gender: Male
Appearance
Yoh stands a bit taller than most at 6'0". He also weighs in a bit thinner than most his height (150 lbs). This leads to the general appearance of a lanky teen, which is an accurate assessment. Over his body there is sparse muscle mass, the type you would expect on a long distance runner which he built from endurance training. Yoh's skin tone is a bit tanner than most around him at a pale brown.
Described as having "bangs like a Shitzou", Yoh's light brown hair is kept notably shaggy. The bangs come down to cover his left eye in most scenarios. His visible eye (and probably his other one too) is a pale brown which holds a consistent theme against his hair and skin. His hair points down to the thin face which holds to his thin body.
While in the Soul Society, Yoh wears the standardized Shinigami uniform without any modification. He has no personal effects that he wears to complement this outfit. However, on his feet he has chosen to forgo the typical sandals in favor of loafers. When in his Gigai, he wears what he can to try to fit in with modern youth. He typically pairs a zip-up hoodie with jeans and tennis shoes. While he prefers cool colors, he doesn't have much of a preference on making things "match" or worrying about things "clashing."
Personality
Above all else, Yoh tries to be proper and polite. He always does his very best to be respectful to his superiors, equals, and even his subordinates. To the point of annoyance among his peers, Yoh always finds a way to insert a "Please" and "Thank you" to his interactions with them. Such formality is only dropped for sake of time among those he considers close friends. Even this is only done when he is alone with them.
When not required to speak, Yoh typically doesn't. In lieu of filling silence with rambling, he prefers to read or otherwise soak up information. He spends a large portion of his time on patrol reading books while he waits for something of interest to happen. At this point, Yoh will read whatever he can get his hands on. He holds truly no preference in what he consumes, as long as its new to him. As such, he has random patches of knowledge in a variety of subjects ranging from European history to modern television.
Yoh prefers to avoid violence if at all possible, finding it often pointless. Despite this, he is not a pacifist. He will fight if commanded to, or to defend himself. However, Yoh believes that problems could be solved diplomatically (or at least an attempt should be made) if both parties just made effort. When ordered to fight, he will often half-heartedly do so by utilizing rather simple and transparent hand to hand styles. During this he'll often exclaim things like "Oh no, you dodged me." Yoh will refuse to take a battle seriously until he is explicitly issued to "draw his sword". At that point, he'll consider the violence unavoidable and begin to fight for real.
Yoh as a person, is quite a bore. Really, truly, a terrible bore. His love of reading, quiet personality, and disapproval of random acts of violence has pegged him (rightfully so) as a bore. This has made it somewhat hard for him to make friends within the Shinoreijutsuin and has followed him into his division within the Gotei 13. Yoh doesn't particularly mind however, all it means is that his existence remains quiet.
If Yoh is around people he knows very well (mainly just Arashi Kazeshi), he is also prone to cartoonish displays of emotion. This is because Arashi and Ame Ringā's childish personalities have worn off on him. When he goes off on one of these cartoonish displays, his usually calm face can be quite expressive. Much in the manner of a Bleach cutaway, he distorts to a chibi of himself and begins acting like a child. However, the only things that can really trigger this are Arashi, Ame Ringā, or a really cute duckling.
While cute ducklings are the only object that can draw him into a chibi-moment, Yoh does also have a handful of things he shows favoritism towards. This is to the point that he'll speak up about them even when there are people around. He enjoys ducks (in all forms), neon colors (particular green and blue), card games, strawberries, and poorly drawn animals. He also holds a dislike for broccoli, geese, and the word "literally" (he literally detests it). However, he typically keeps those to himselfbecause opinions are like assholes, because he's too polite to object to them.
Yoh is also incredibly fond of rain. No other form of precipitation will do. He does not comment upon this though. Instead, he will simply smile widely and go out of his way to be in the rain (as long as his book's put away). He finds rain to be the most calming thing of all and seeks it out if he is ever stressed or upset.
History
Part I-Life in the Rukongai
Yoh was born into the Rukongai to a small, peasant family. He lived in the 12th District of the North Rukongai and thus lived a relatively peaceful life. His father was a common laborer and his mother made small trinkets and cloths to sell to neighboring districts. Yoh would spend his younger days helping his mother with her work, keeping quiet and always being very polite when he had to bother her. This behavior continued until she taught him how to read.
After learning to read, it was hard to keep Yoh's hands off a book. While he would always help his family if needed, Yoh spent the overwhelming majority of his free time reading whatever he could get his hands on. However, this began to change as he matured. Once he became 100, Yoh started having to accompany his father as a laborer. His father, who worked primarily as a carpenter, wanted to start teaching Yoh the craft as soon as possible.
The work made him strong, but he hated every moment of it. He'd rather be reading. He would so much rather be reading. There was only one upside to the work, when it rained they got to stay home. As a boy who preferred a book over a hammer, Yoh wished for rain each day. He didn't understand how missing work made it hard for them to live, so he wished for it openly.
When it rained, Yoh would read and sometimes venture into the rain. He truly enjoyed the feeling of rain. However, when a few days of rain came, the family wouldn't eat. For his parents, it was fine. However, Yoh experienced great pain when he didn't eat for a few days. His parents had no idea what to do about this, so they tried to comfort his as best they could. Without a real solution, all they could do was pray for sunshine.
After a few decades of this, Yoh's parents finally decided that enough was enough. They were tired of seeing him suffer whenever they couldn't get food. So, as a family they took a trip to a district closer to the Seireitei to find someone who might know what was going on. Eventually, they found a clinic with a rather knowledgeable doctor. Upon describing his symptoms and after a brief inspection of Yoh's konpaku, the doctor recommended the boy apply to the Shinoreijutsuin.
It was...a difficult thing. Yoh loved his parents and truly didn't want to leave them. But he was worried that if he didn't learn to control whatever power he had, he might accidentally hurt them. So, with a somewhat heavy heart, he told his parents that he would indeed try to gain admittance into the Shinoreijutsuin. The next day, Yoh ventured to the Seireitei to take his exam for admittance.
Part II-Shino Academy
Yoh gained admittance to the Academy and soon began attending. At about 130, he was younger than many of his classmates. He looked old enough though, so it didn't really bother anyone around him. He spent most of his free time studying and otherwise reading. Thus, he became rather well rounded and didn't really struggle in any particular subject too severely. Yoh found himself more inclined to swordsmanship and Hoho, and found a strong distaste for hand to hand combat. As such, he never really took sparring in the discipline for seriously and earned a reputation of a slacker.
In all seriousness, it had nothing to do with the hand to hand aspect. Yoh just found fighting without purpose to be appalling. Having been raised in a peaceful community, he didn't understand why they should enact violence against each other when they could reason with each other. He did, however, practice his techniques by himself on things like practice dummies or the occasional tree.
During his stint at the academy, Yoh made one really good friend: Kazeshi Arashi. Arashi was quite young for the Shino Academy and had a hard time fitting in with the rest of his classmates. However, in Arashi, Yoh found a truly kindred spirit and a childlike wonder which inspired him. They didn't have much in common other than their distaste for hand to hand combat. But, that and Yoh's willingness to go along with whatever Arashi proposed yielded them a strong friendship. Finally, after six years of slightly above mediocre performance, Yoh graduated from the Shino Academy.
Part III-Shinigami Life/Discovery of Shikai
Yoh was accepted into the 2nd Squad of the Gotei 13. Once there, he began to work hard in an attempt to gain his Shikai. He spent many hours meditating with his blade in an attempt to understand it. However, he only truly got anything back on days when it rained. After a year of this, Yoh still had not made progress towards his goal of obtaining Shikai. During this time, he also ran into Arashi and spoke with him very briefly about their journeys to Shikai. Arashi still had not begun his. While it pained Yoh to see his friend behind the curve of new Shinigami, Yoh couldn't spare the time to try to help Arashi catch up.
After this run-in came a particularly beautiful rainy day. The sun was shining and the downpour was so light that everyone continued about their day. Yoh was particularly excited for this day. As usual, he meditated with his sword. However, this time something was different. Perhaps it was the combination of the beautiful day and the light rain, but something seemed odd to him. As he meditated, Yoh began to hear a child like voice. It was...laughing.
After a few minutes of this, the voice began to get louder and louder within his head. It began to berate him profusely. Yoh was able to make out that the voice had to belong to a little girl. The voice agreed that this was indeed the case. He spent a lot of time questioning the voice and eventually learned that she was the voice of his zanpakuto. After an hour or so of discussion, Yoh dared to ask her for her name. She responded by giving it to him, but only on the condition that he play with her every week.
Since then, Yoh has had to put up with his zanpakuto bothering him like a nagging younger sister. He obtained his Shikai by using her name, and he began to practice with his Shikai when he was alone. He's been sent on several missions but has yet to encounter any Arrancar that he can reason with. He also avoids sparing religiously and instead prefers to train by himself or read books when he has the time.

Zanpakutō
--------------------
Name: Ame Ringā
Translation - Rain Bringer
Unreleased Appearance
In its unreleased form, Ame Ringā takes on the shape of a wakizashi. The blade is 18 inches (45 centimeters) in length, the median length for a wakizashi. The hand-guard of the wakizashi takes the shape of a raindrop with the point on the flat side of the blade. The wrapping around the 6 inch handle is a pale blue color. When sheathed, Yoh wears his Zanpakuto on his back hip with the handle pointing out to the right which he draws from.
--------------------
Zanpakutō Spirit
--------------------
Name: Ame
Gender: Female
Spirit Appearance
Ame takes on the form of a rather young, petite girl. She has light blue hair which falls to her mid-back. On the sides of her head, bits of the hair curl up into adorable little points that stick out from her head. Her blue eyes match this long, colorful hair. To these traits, she matches a very pale blue dress that falls past her knees. On her tiny little feet, she prefers to forego shoes. This lets her constantly soak her feet in the water of her inner world. In contrast to Yoh, she has a very pale complexion which emphasizes when she gets upset or blushes has upset blushes.
Personality
In contrast to Yoh's quiet nature, Ame is a very loud child. She loves to run and swim and play and squeal and scream. Despite this, she's well-behaved when Yoh asks this of her. She's also polite when asking Yoh for things or just addressing him in general. Like Yoh, she also loves the rain and is happy that her inner world is in a constant drizzle. Ame finds books silly, fighting dumb, and Yoh somewhat of a bore. She occasionally gets upset for days on end and this causes a downpour within her inner world. On the whole though, she's a very happy spirit.
Relationship to Master
In general, Ame treats Yoh like a big bother, albeit a boring one. Whenever they converse, she always tries to convince him to come play with her. If she had her way, she would drag him around all around her small water-filled inner world. They agree on the somewhat pointless nature of violence. When she doesn't get her way, Ame can get very angry at Yoh and throws a tantrum. She refuses to talk to him while she's upset. Yoh does his best to be patient, but occasionally he gets very annoyed and upset by Ame. On a few occasions, he's even snapped at her which was ensued by some crying and mass apologies. Despite how close they are, Yoh still always asks for permission whenever he releases his Shikai.
Inner World
Ame's inner world is a small, sandy island surrounded by seawater. The island is almost twenty feet in diameter and houses a very small cluster of palm trees. The water surrounding the island is shallow and clear unless it's storming. The inner world is always raining, though it is often a light drizzle or a misting. The lighter the rain, the better mood that Ame is in. When she becomes upset, the usual sunny sky becomes clouded and the rain intensifies greatly.

Zanpakutō Shikai

Call Out Phrase: Pour
Translation - N/A
Shikai Appearance
Ame Ringā's Shikai takes the form of a long metal staff. The staff is six feet long and one and a quarter inch thick. The staff is black in color but has small, faint rain drop etching scattered along it. The staff has small indents around the middle where the wielder's hands should go for a resting position. The very tips of the staff are also a quarter inch thinner to allow for more pressure with jabs.
Shikai Abilities
(Quick science: A gallon of water weighs approximately 8.3 pounds.)
Pour
- Description of Attack - When Yoh releases his Shikai, he begins spinning his staff. After he finishes this, he taps an end of the staff to his foot. As he spins his staff, a small cloud begins to form to his left. The cloud stores water equal to the number of times he spun his staff times five gallons. As soon as he finishes, the cloud begins to pour down rain at the constant rate of one gallon of water per minute. Yoh can direct the cloud using his staff. When the cloud is out of water, it dissipates.
However, Yoh's power does a bit more than get his target a little wet. If the water falls upon a being with reiatsu, a percentage of the water sticks to them, weighing them down. The percentage of the water that sticks is based upon the target's tier relative to Yoh's. If the target is two or more tiers below Yoh, 90% of the water will stick to them. If the target is one tier below him, 80% of the rain water will cling. An on par target will have 70% of the water stuck to them. A tier above Yoh will have 45% of the water cling to them. A target two tiers above Yoh will only have 10% of the rain water cling. Any higher, and the target may get a little wet, but won't be weighed down by the water. The water will remain clinging to the target until Yoh seals his Shikai, or the target moves out of range.- Type - Offensive
- Range - The cloud can move 30 feet from Yoh. A water stricken target can be 50 feet away from Yoh before the water falls off.
- Limitation - Firstly, there is the water limitation. Currently, Yoh can only summon 50 gallons of water. Also, while the cloud is raining, Yoh cannot control the rate at which the cloud loses rain. Thus, any water used while the cloud travels is wasted. On the note of travel, the cloud also can only move at the speed that Yoh could run at. Thus, a target that is using Shunpo or Sonido will outrun the cloud and waste whatever water was used chasing it.
While directing the cloud, Yoh cannot use his Shunpo and the cloud cannot be more than thirty feet form him. He must also direct the cloud using his staff, tying up his weapon until the cloud dissipates. After the cloud dissipates, Yoh can only maintain his Shikai for three minutes. While a target is stricken with rain water, if they move more than fifty feet away from Yoh, the weighted water will slide off them.

Yoh sat at the corner of the training grounds, patiently waiting for space to clear up so he could train by himself. As he waited, Yoh absently flipped through the pages in a book. He'd read this before, and wasn't much in the mood for reading it again. However, if he had the book present, most people wouldn't bother him...usually.
"Whatcha readin?" Yoh looked up from his book to see a younger female Shinigami peering at him. He slowly shut his book and offered his companion a small smile.
"Nothing now. What can I do for you miss?"
"Um...why are you sitting here? It's about to start raining."
Yoh looked up to the sky. So it was. Clouds were gathering and he noticed that many people were beginning to leave the training grounds. Did they not like a little water? Poor things. He wondered why this girl was sticking around though. Did she also not mind the rain? Or was she in need of something from him before the downpour came?
"Well I...I don't have an umbrella and I live rather far away. And I...I was wondering if you could help me."
Yoh's raised his eyebrows slightly before he slid up to his feet. With a smile, he motioned for the girl to wait for him there. In a burst of Shunpo, he brought himself to his room and retrieved and umbrella that he kept for situations like this. Another burst brought him back to her and he offered it up to her. "Here you go ma'am. Enjoy."
"I'd feel bad just taking it like that..." she said sheepishly. Yoh responded with a soft smile as he opened the umbrella. At this point, the rain had begun pouring beyond the awning they hid under.
"I'll escort there of course. Shall we go?" He motioned for them to leave with his free hand. She stood there for a moment unsure what to do, and then she stepped closer to Yoh and began to lead him back to her residence. He wasn't much for conversation, but Yoh made sure the pair stayed dry.
