General Information
--------------------
Name: Kokesawa Chika, Formerly Aosawa Kaki
Actual Age: 262
Appearing Age: 26
Gender: Female
Appearance
Oh how Chika has grown. Chika stands at 5'4", a short but stocky woman with clear musculature and an hourglass figure. Her long, thick hair is a dark green color, and her skin has an olive tan. Chika's eyes are round but slanted, and bright red. Chika often wears her hair loose, and with the exception of one bang which always seems to cross over the right side of her face, and a stray curl which always sticks up no matter what she does, her hair is wild and unpredictable. From time to time she ties it back in a low ponytail, but she usually just lets it fly. Chika has a round, kind face on a long head. Her features are soft and for the most part her expression is gentle. Anger her, and it will quickly twist into something far less gentle.
Chika's body remains full of surgical scars, and a few far nastier scars exist on her chest and back, as well as on her hands. Her hands were quite torn up from frequent use of her shikai when she was younger, and so her hands all the way up to her forearms contain light, swirling scars, faded from time but leaving her textured like the bark of a tree. Her right hand has a particularly vibrant scar from where an arrancar's whip-like zanpakuto wrapped around her hand and tore into the flesh. She has other, small scars from fights and scuffles but none of them are quite so vibrant or jarring.
Over the years, Chika has worn all sorts of clothes. She's gone from very simple dress to a more modern style as she got older, now favoring a set of fingerless gloves and a gray biker jacket that crosses over from one side to the other. She likes to wear bright, vibrant colors, particularly orange and yellow. Her pants are often loose to facilitate kicking and other movement in a fight, as Chika's style relies on tight footwork mixed with longer, more powerful strikes.
As her iconic scarf was shredded when Celia attacked her, Chika no longer wears it. She does however carry several mementos, often in a small gray messenger's bag. Her sister's dead zanpakuto, Chika, is slung over her shoulder, while her own zanpakuto rests on her left hip for a cross draw.
Personality
In all of Chika's years alone, she has become increasingly happy to meet new people who can see and interact with her. A few dozen decades on her own led her to crave companionship, and she's willing to take what she can get. She's much kinder than she was in the past, having matured greatly. She is still an energetic woman who never seems to sit still for long, always wanting to get on the move and get something done. She idealizes always moving forward, rather than staying still, but is still affected greatly by her experiences.
Chika is quite a rough person. Though she attempts to emulate the gentle nature of her mentor, she doesn't quite have the patience for it. Chika is not easily provoked to violence but she is easily provoked to yelling, stomping around, and ending a conversation with a stream of profanity and a slammed door. (Even if there isn't a door to slam.) She's had enough time waiting around and she wants to get on with things. This isn't to say that Chika can't handle lulls in activity, but she prefers to spend them either meditating or exploring, not just bumming around with her buddies. She can handle quiet but not inaction. When working with others Chika rarely pulls her punches, be they literal or vocal.
Chika is not immune to anger or fear and outbursts are to be expected. Chika refuses to get too emotional in front of her enemies, and will go as far as to cover her face, but in front of her allies she's a very sentimental, emotional woman, and her actions are not always guided by reason. She thinks with her heart (and her stomach). All in all, Chika believes in justice. She is far from selfless but she wants to prevent harm against those weaker than her. And perhaps a little more than that, she wants to look cool in the process, and often acts very silly in the attempt. Once she starts on a specific goal, she stubbornly pursues it until she physically can not - even though she often fails to explain what she's thinking or planning to those she pulls in with her.
She remains hindered by insomnia and nightmares. Dreams of her hollow still haunt her, and worse still are the dreams of Szayel's laboratory. Chika is often reminded of these things, but she has become very good at hiding her discomfort. The sole exception is when she sleeps. Chika often awakes from these nightmares screaming, having shredded her sheets if she had any, and sometimes having struck whoever came to check on her.
There are a multitude of things that frighten Chika but the most debilitating are the thoughts that she might slip and lose control of her hollow, or hurt the ones she loves, or watch them fall in battle. At this point in her life she has grown good at pushing down those fears but the anxieties still exist and cause her stress, which she refuses to share with others. Chika is a secretive woman, rarely talking about her past and taking measures to conceal it from others.
Chika's name is truly Kaki, but she took the name of her sister's sword upon her return to Japan, not wanting to cause a stir if someone recognized her. She carries her sister's sword and takes the name, sometimes claiming that since she could not keep Hotaru safe, she would become her arm.
Though Chika has little desire to guide her younger self, she still wishes to avert what happened to her sister, so that she might finally lay the dead blade to rest.
History
[note: This character is an alternate continuity of Aosawa Kaki, another character on the board. Thus, history reflects both IC events and events included in that character's history.]
Chika had been born in the twenty-second district of the rukongai, the younger of two children (Hotaru and herself); things weren't too hard to live with, aside from the unfriendly companion that Chika had always been stuck with. Her inner hollow had been with her since birth, a phenomenon that Chika cannot explain. She didn't know much about her hollow, besides the fact that her hollow was serious, whereas Chika was not. She grew up without parents, partly because her inner hollow possessed her one night and caused her to kill her only family in her 'sleep.' That was when Chika's insomnia began. At first, it wasn't so much insomnia as it was somniphobia. Eventually it just changed, and Chika couldn't sleep, even when she outgrew this.
As if by cruel irony, Chika began to see visions of a tall, glassy man who appeared to be made from jade. Not only that, but she 'awoke' from one of those moments, only to find that a sword was stuck in her sleeve, which was extremely uncomfortable. She looked at the sword, and a sad-eyed expression grew across her face. Killing wasn't something that Chika was willing to do.
And yet, that changed when a hollow managed to make its way into the rukongai. Chika, unwilling to fight at first, took quite a beating from the monster before her inner hollow kicked in and eliminated the beast. When Chika attempted to thank her hollow, the hollow responded with, "Feh. If you die, I die."
Constantly, Chika's inner hollow and her zanpakuto spirit traded off positions in dominance. Her zanpakuto spirit might be there one day, but there was no guarantee for the next. On top of this nonsense, someone had recommended she join the shinigami academy, which at first Chika made a joke or two about and then denied. One day she was curious as to what might happen, so she joined the shinigami academy. The problem with her idea was that she had poor control over her inner hollow and was working harder than most students just to suppress it; she didn't stay long though, not even long enough to graduate. She stayed for about five years before she left entirely. She never trained in shunpo, she barely knew any kido spells when she left, though she did show a small amount of talent in kido when she did train in it.
The reason she left: her inner hollow. Chika didn't want to risk losing control and hurting someone, as her inner hollow often suggested she do. Because of this, her zanpakuto spirit went on a streak of refusing to speak to Chika about his name or otherwise, despite the fact that Chika would have been able to hear. It didn't exactly help when Chika's inner hollow began to make fun of Chika for it; not to mention she stopped being able to hear it when her zanpakuto had stopped his little fit. Chika was suspicious about her inner hollow, though she didn't know what to say about it. The words were blurred and mashed together.
Since living in the mountains, Chika has grown quite a bit. At one point, she went down from the mountains to the beach, and met with a human and an arrancar, the latter named Stour. This resulted in a fight, with Chika losing, any confidence she once had completely and utterly shattered. Later on, she met this arrancar and was manipulated into speaking to him, which lead to her speaking of her inner hollow, due to a curiosity. He said something about knowing other vizards, and a curiosity consumed her and got the best of her. Curiosity killed the cat, and it also made Chika fess up.
She had also been confronted by several vizards during trips down to Karakura town, one who asked her to join a place called, "The Haven." Nervous, Chika declined and turned away from the possibility of being one of an organization again. During a trip down from the mountains and into the woods, she was confronted by a woman named Rydia, who, after traumatizing Chika with human clothes and photography, offered to help her train for shikai.
However, that wasn't the end of it. Meeting an Arrancar named Samyeru seemed to preceed a series of untimely and unfortunate events. It started with him hiking up into the mountains, Chika lying awake. Nervously, she tried to watch the arrancar and was spotted quickly. Having failed miserably, the two shared some bread. The entire time, Chika was nervous. She didn't like not knowing whether to expect the man to attack her, but in the end, she fled before he could--if that were his intention.
Scarcely a week later, Hotaru and Chika met. At first, the two didn't recognize each other, and spoke casually about the terrible weather. When the two realized who the other was, Hotaru was first to take action. She struck at Chika, going as far as to release her shikai and aiming to kill her. Chika was resourceful though, and she used a bakudo to bind Hotaru as she ran away. She noticed that Hotaru was being chased by shinigami, however, and took it upon herself to create a distraction. She crossed the shinigami's path, injured and in pain, and meant to keep running though she failed at that. In the end, she stalled the shinigami long enough to give Hotaru a window of time to run away, despite putting strain on her body.
She returned to her mountainous abode, hiding within a small crevice while she rested. Watching the rain pour down from the skies, she contemplated on the situation at hand. She wondered whether or not she was going to let Hotaru kill her, and the more she thought about it, the more she leaned towards the idea. Her reasoning was that Hotaru needed to be at peace, and if killing Chika would bring peace to Hotaru, then she would give up her life for it.
Another week later, the girls met once more, this time, Chika arriving and Hotaru searching. She stopped, trying to convince Hotaru to speak to her for a brief moment. While she managed to explain how and why she killed their father, Hotaru was less pleased than ever. She attacked Chika, who was more than willing to let the sword pierce her heart. But it never came. Instead, Samyeru returned, blocking the blow himself. Chika screamed at him, revealing that she would let Hotaru kill her. To this, Hotaru was surprised, but unmoved. She replied, "Then allow me to bring you death, nee-chan."
However, once more, Hotaru's blade did not pierce Chika's heart, as the girl was saved by Sanmaru, who pushed the elder's blade away from Chika. Daigoro and Sanmaru proceeded to attempt to capture Hotaru, with no success. Chika and Hotaru conspired to fake Hotaru's death, by having Chika act as though she had lost control of her hollow and devoured Hotaru's soul. For emphasis, Hotaru hid herself using Kyakko. In the end, the shinigami were driven off by the combined force of Sanmuii, Samyeru, and Chika.
After the issue with Hotaru was resolved, Chika began to form a resolve. She decided that she would not let any harm come to Hotaru, and that she would make up for her past actions by subduing her hollow. Because of this resolve, she was able to subdue her hollow enough to regain a grip on her path to obtaining shikai.
During the great war of whenever that was, Chika was hit by a group of arrancar driving a large car. She, and every other character on the board, were dragged into an all out war. Sometime during the confusion, she was captured by an arrancar named Xuan, a fraccion of Szayel.
She was brought to Szayel's laboratory for experimentation, which to her mind was senseless torture. She had no idea how much he was actually taking from cutting her open, and didn't care to know. Throughout her ordeal, two of Szayel's fraccionnes, Adan and Stour, befriended her.
They managed to rescue Chika, and set her free. Once free, however, Chika was almost completely alone, and unable to cope. It took a chance meeting with her sister for her to seek any counsel. Though she has lived with her sister in Rydia's abandoned home for weeks, or months, her recovery was sluggish at best.
After another attack from Xuan, Chika allowed her hollow to take over so she could defeat him. Kiku quickly dispatched the arrancar by latching onto his throat and launching a point-blank cero, decapitating him and coating Chika in blood. Kiku then attempted to go after the nearby Hotaru, who was defenseless and unconscious. Eventually Chika was able to retake control, but she was shaken by the events. Hirako Shinji, who had held off Szayel until the other involved arrancar fled or were defeated, told her he could help her better control her hollow. Though Chika was too upset at the time to respond to his offer, she promptly decided that she needed to take the help as soon as possible.
After finding Shinji, he led her back to his warehouse and he, Hiyori, and Hachi held back her hollow's rampage while she entered Jinzen and beat down Kiku herself. During the fight she kept a level head and declared that she no longer had any reason to fear Kiku, as after everything else that had happened, she was no longer a threat. Chika defeated her hollow in exactly twenty minutes, but this would not be the last time that Kiku would attempt to retake her soul. The Switch
In a battle with Alexei, who sought to avenge Xuan's death, Hotaru attempted to protect Chika from a potentially lethal attack and Chika was unable to heal her. When Chika attempted to take Hotaru to the few others she knew, it was too late, and Hotaru had already died. Distraught, Chika brought Hotaru to the mountain where she intended to bury her and her sword, but as she dug she instead took Hotaru's dead katana and carried it as her sole momento.
Chika was later mortally wounded in another fight with Alexei, after she nearly killed the man but was promptly interrupted by Celia Parra, who stabbed her in the back before she could fire off a lethal cero. Celia left her to die, but shinigami involved in the nearby chaos identified her as carrying a zanpakuto, though they did not know her squad, and brought her to Soul Society for more efficient care, as Chika had been stabbed through the esophagus and needed more advanced medical treatment.
When Chika awoke, it was in the fourth division's medical barracks. She did not exist on record and so her zanpakuto were taken from her, and while her first instinct was to try and escape she did not get far before several shinigami interrupted and brought her back. She was questioned as to her name and rank, and when she could not answer the question they identified her as a rogue and demanded to know where she obtained a zanpakuto. It was not until a message from the newly-formed Karakura Squad came through requesting her safe return that Chika had any hope of being returned home safely, and so she answered with her real name, noting that she had never graduated the academy and was never formally made a shinigami although she had manifested her zanpakuto and shikai.
This was not the solution she thought it was. In her attempt to travel through the Dangai, something went wrong. Just as she was about to step through the Senkaimon the Kototsu came upon her and dragged her down, spitting her through time. She survived, and awoke in Karakura town almost two centuries before she had been sent back, severely weakened. Chika had no gigai, and no way to interact with most of the humans, and so for a while she returned to her mountain and came down only to slay hollow. She was occasionally mistaken for a spirit of the mountain or the forest below, and so all of her interactions with humans were rather unpleasant as she tried and failed to explain that she was not, in fact, a guardian of the forest, but a random dweller who simply killed off disturbances like giant man-eating monsters. She was not convincing.
Because she had nothing to live for in the mountains, Chika decided to travel. She hopped on a boat to mainland China, where she then traveled in solitude for a time. She learned the language as she went, and took on the names that others called her rather than trying to introduce herself. Her interactions with hollow and shinigami were limited, as there were not such high concentrations of souls where Chika traveled, and thus there were not many hollow either.
After a time, as Chika wandered through a forest, she came across a little monk boy named Min, who could see her. She followed him back to his temple, where the monks practiced kung fu as well as other disciplines, and was amazed that several of the students and masters could see and interact with her. Though they were thoroughly convinced that she was a forest spirit, there to impart wisdom to them, Chika was more interested in learning their styles of martial arts. She also devoted this time to teaching herself Hoho, as while the monks certainly had no such power, she had neglected to learn for long enough. Though her grasp of the technique was incredibly shakey, Chika eventually formed a vague flash step that was usable enough for travel. Raw, unpolished, but enough to get her moving. Min became a close friend while she was there, and she stayed with the monks for over a decade before they were finally convinced that Chika was a spirit, but not in the way that they thought, or wanted. She was not banished from the temple but the monks suddenly disregarded her in a way they had not done before. Min was the only one who would even try to connect with her, and he was reprimanded for it. She eventually met him in the forest, her few belongings slung over her shoulder, and asked him what had happened. He answered quietly, she had been deemed a negative influence, a trickster, and though he did not believe that his masters did and he needed to show them respect. Reluctantly, Chika moved on.
It was in Eastern India that Chika finally settled, as she met a young human who could see and interact with her, but had no means of defending themselves against attack. Chika had no better place to be, and the child was very accepting of their new friend. The child, Farah, often snuck away to meet Chika when she was supposed to be learning her mother's craft. Chika taught the girl basic fighting techniques, and how to use a sword, and the girl in return would bring food. Often times Chika snuck into their home and slept beside the girl's bed, and traveled beside her as they made trips to the market. When hollows came seeking her soul, Chika was quick to dispatch them.
This was the longest time Chika had ever stayed in one place. She stayed with Farah for fifty years until the girl, now an old woman, asked Chika if this was really where she needed to be. Chika wanted to stay with Farah, but the woman insisted that if Chika could have devoted so much time to her now, there would be plenty more time in the next life. And if she moved quickly, she could find another lifelong friend. Chika did not expect to be taking such advice from a human, but she promptly embraced Farah for the last time before continuing her travels.
Chika never stayed in one place for long after that. She traveled all over the world, from Japan to India to Europe to the Americas. She rode human ships, hid in their houses, and took on a nomadic life as she briefly defended areas from hollow, leaving when shinigami came to investigate. What time was not spent on the move was spent training, or resting. Her hollow was dealt with in the most secluded areas Chika could stand, high in mountains, deep in valleys, in remote deserts, until Chika no longer feared Kiku would attempt to take over.
Her final battle with her hollow, almost sixty years ago, took place atop an inactive volcano. Chika entered Jinzen and allowed her hollow to try and take over, again, and again, beating her down over and over until the hollow eventually stopped challenging her. When she awoke, days later, her body was wrecked with scars and bruises and she could barely move to get to her own supplies, but she was finally free.
Now free of her hollow, Chika resumed her travels. She obtained a gigai in Mexico and spent her days fending off hollows, haunting men who attacked the villages she frequented. She never stayed in one place for more than a month, and though she realized her haunts often brought more harm than good, and scared the unseeing people she tried to protect, it didn't dissuade her. Every now and again a little boy, an old woman, a teenager, a school teacher, a clergy woman, would see her and thank her and that was enough to keep her going.
Chika was slowly becoming more confident in herself, and feeling less like she had to watch over her shoulder all the time. After all, in this time Szayel did not know about her. But through all of this, Chika never stopped having nightmares of her hollow, of Szayel, and of Xuan.
It did not cross Chika's mind to stop herself from being kidnapped, and she only returned to Japan because she realized that Hotaru could still be saved, and her young self could be spared centuries of loneliness. Eventually Chika decided to return to Japan, to Karakura, and hide herself from the young Kaki until the moment was right.

Chika - Hundred Flowers
- Description - Chika carries a second zanpakuto, a dead katana. The guard has the appearance of an intricate flower, but no colors, thus is completley gray. The hilt has a soft, lush substance covering it and is black. It extends to about three feet and is two inches wide. The zanpakuto once belonged to a shinigami named Aosawa Hotaru, and held similar abilities to Chika's own Hisui Hanasenshi. Now the sword possesses no soul and is simply a sturdy, well-crafted sword. Chika practices with the blade, and is capable of wielding it along with her own zanpakuto, but prefers to use her own sword by itself.
- Type- Ausachi, formerly-used
- Limitation - As this is not Chika's zanpakuto, but her dead sister's, it no longer possesses a living soul and is forever sealed, reduced to an ausachi. Another shinigami might one day breathe a new spirit into it, but Chika died with Hotaru. Chika is more comfortable using a single blade and if she must choose she'll always pick her own sword.
Chika's Gloves
- Description - A pair of tenkou with some padding to reduce pressure on Chika's knuckles. They prevent her from dislocating a finger every time she punches someone.
- Type- Mundane Accessory.
- Limitation - Does not defend against hierro, or speciallized abilities. Chika's natural durability as a vizard provides more protection than the gloves.
--------------------
Specialty Techniques
--------------------
Tobisaya - Flying Scabbard
- Description of Attack - Chika swings her sheathed sword powerfully, allowing the scabbard to fly off of the blade and strike a target, bludgeoning and stunning them. The strike can be powerful enough to shatter stone, though is easily blocked or evaded by a quick opponent. Chika often uses this to topple a nearby object or to gain distance, or to stun an opponent.
- Type - Zanjutsu; Offensive
- Range - Up to 40 meters distance but 25 effectively.
- Limitation - This is a physical attack, and damage is done respectively based on tier. In order to use this multiple times she would have to retrieve her sheathe.
Shoka - Early Summer
- Description of Attack - Chika utilizes a style of tight footwork and powerful punches, often opening her hands mid-strike to change and redirect her opponents' attacks, using offensive strikes to defend, getting in too close for enemies to use their swords as a counter and moving too wildly to be predicted easily. Retreats are made by kicking off of an enemy or utilizing the force from an enemy's attack, and damage is reduced by rolling with and redirecting the force of the blow. Takedowns are also used against weakened or off-balance opponents. Chika is powerful enough to fight most normal hollows without using her zanpakuto.
- Type - Hakuda
- Range - Contact
- Limitation - This is simply a style of hand-to-hand that Chika has adapted from her own training, her aptitude with hand-to-hand, and her observation of human fighting styles. It can be imitated by anyone with the patience to study her movements, or learn from her directly. Chika's main disadvantage in using this form is that her speed is less than her strength and so her offense is much more potent than her defense.
Kokegi - Mossy Gi
- Description of Attack - As a result of Chika's soul becoming further linked with her hollows, she naturally picks up reishi and reiatsu from people and places she has been, causing her to blend more readily with her environment. Her general ability to conceal her reiatsu is greater than most. She can effectively disappear when she wants to, and when not exerting herself her presence is often cloudy and dull compared to other signatures of similar strengths. Chika is also much more receptive to other reiatsu signatures in such a way that she finds it difficult to tune out the buzz of a crowded area and hone in on a single signature without intense focus. It is easy for her to obfuscate her own presence, but other presences become cloudy to her.
- Type - Sensory; Passive
- Range - N/A
- Limitation - Chika cannot hide her presence while exerting reiryoku, and a skilled or familiar face could detect her easily. Chika is made to rely more heavily on her physical senses such as sight and smell. Like a foggy glass, those on neither side can clearly see the other but it is still somewhat visible. Chika can still be located, but her presence is naturally obscured with other signatures she's contacted. If Chika makes a sudden transition from a highly populated area to a very unpopulated area, she often retains the signature of the previous area and thus sticks out more than she might have before. Moving from a low-reishi area to a high-reishi area is less jarring, and she will pick up surrounding signatures within an hour, but losing those signatures can take as long as two days.

ZanpakutÅ
--------------------
Name: Hisui Hanasenshi
Translation: Jade Flower Warrior
Unreleased Appearance
Hisui Hanasenshi is a wakizashi, the blade measuring fourteen inches. The hilt is a pale green, a jade color, wrapped in a silky fabric. The guard is the same jade-like material with the shape of a daisy with a very intricate design, seeing as every petal is a part of it. The sword is sheathed in jade as well. Chika carries her sword on a makeshift sash so it hangs loosely beside her left hip.
--------------------
ZanpakutÅ Spirit
--------------------
Name: Hisui Hanasenshi
Gender: Male
Spirit Appearance
Hisui Hanasenshi is a tall figure, standing at exactly seven feet tall, but is a spider-like character in the sense that his structure is lankier than Chika's. His skin is oddly textured, as it appears to be made of a flexible jade. His blue irises are shaped like a six-petaled flower, oddly enough. The man wears his hair up in a ponytail, and he walks around Chika's inner world in a silver kimono. His long hair falls down to his waist, and is the same shade of avocado-green as Chika's hair.
His walk is very calm and dignified, noble almost. Hisui-san has a very sophisticated air about him, outbursts and anger seeming lost upon such a man.
Personality
Despite his intimidating size, Hisui Hanasenshi is a peaceful character, slow to anger. But he is difficult to please, with high standards and expectations from Chika and everyone else. He speaks in a very formal manner, and refers to Chika as "Aosawa-san," often referring to other zanpakuto with similar respect. He refers to her inner hollow as "Kiku-san" now that she has revealed her name to Chika. He is quick to derride others though, especially for indecision. His exact reason for his dislike of Hotaru was that she created conflict within Chika's soul and within herself, and posed a poor model for Chika.
Hisui Hanasenshi once had a sense of humor. Once. He is now much sterner and more taciturn. He's become increasingly harsh, although he was never very gentle to begin with. He is very quiet these days, leaving his master to her own devices as she will not take his advice anyway. Other zanpakuto might pick up on a subtle desire to overtake those around him, and in part they are correct. He believes that he knows best, and others should heed his advice, but in truth he often attempts to force his way into subjective situations as though his answer is objectively correct and reasonable and honorable.
He values honor, bravery, and skill, as well as decisiveness. He admires those who are strong in conviction, as long as those convictions are not evil to his mind. He'll accept lying, cheating, and underhandedness as long as it is for a greater goal.
Relationship to Master
A rift has formed between Chika and Hisui Hanasenshi. While Hisui once warned her not to cling too closely to Hotaru, Chika now carries the girl's dead zanpakuto. Hisui Hanasenshi continues to refer to Chika respectfully, but since Hotaru's death her sister has received no such privilege, being referred to only as 'that girl.' He is a stern spirit, who urges decisiveness and independence. He scolds hesitation, and commends action.
He has promised Chika that he will never relinquish the secrets of her bankai if she continues to carry Hotaru's zanpakuto. Chika has suspected that the canopy of her inner world would contain more secrets, and so she has made some effort to climb when she wishes to train. She stubbornly continues to carry her sister's dead sword against Hisui Hanasenshi's will, and continues to search for secrets against his will. She reminds him that he serves her, not the other way around, but he continues to demand her respect and compliance.
The two are still somewhat amiable, but there is always an undercurrent of their struggle. They respect each other, but they do not share the same views of each other's roles. Hisui Hanasenshi believes his role is to provide guidance, and offer power as a reward. Chika believes that his role is ultimately to serve her, and give her the power to protect others as she gains the strength to handle it.
Inner World
Chika's mind takes the setting of a stone rainforest. The floor is very flat, marbled over but green as if made solely from jade. Vines and flowers surround any of the hundreds of trees, all eerily solid as though made of glass. The trees themselves extend ceaselessly into the sky, and the sun cannot be seen from the forest floor. The upper canopies are incredibly hard to reach, though during Jinzen Chika often attempts to reach the top so she can see the sun. Her spirit attacks her if she gets that far.
--------------------
Inner Hollow
--------------------
Name: Kiku
Gender: Female
Appearance
Kiku takes the form of Chika's sister Hotaru, although has revealed that she can alter her form and similarly take the form of Chika at any age. She generally stands at four foot five. She moves with a doe-like grace, with the surefootedness of a mountain goat. Her skin is a hard ivory, and her eyes are totally black, as though she was truly just a hollow shell. She wears a white kimono with a black obi. Her skin has slowly developed a pattern of vines, as though ivy had grown against her and left an impression.
Personality
Kiku is an aggressive, sadistic spirit who is easily provoked. She has a limited sense of humor, finding Chika's jokes and attempts to be cool laughable but pathetic. Her idea of funny is when an opponent freezes dead in their tracks upon sighting Chika's mask. Her idea of funny is when an opponent begs for mercy only to be struck down. And yet Kiku has quieted over the years, realizing that there is no true way to escape from her host of her own power. She would still love to take over, and she would still love to return to her ways of draining her enemies and leaving their corpses for the birds. But this is not an option she possesses.
Relationship to Master
Kiku and Chika have had a love-hate relatioship over the past few years. Chika has grown less weary of using Kiku's power, and her inhibitions about using her mask and fighting to her fullest potential have long since faded. While Kiku has tried to take over Chika's body many times over the past few years, she has not been successful. Their souls are so intertwined that Kiku no longer stands any chance of destroying Chika, as to do so would require destroying herself. Kiku's powers have continually bled over into Chika's.
While Kiku still feels no sympathy for Chika, often viewing her host as a drag, as a fool, and as a pathetic waste of potential, she also holds a begrudging respect for her. Chika has both beaten Kiku down below the surface and learned to close off parts of her mind from the hollow during meditation, turn Kiku's powers against her by draining both of their reiryoku and using sheer willpower and physical fortitude to beat her down. Kiku has not attempted to take over in sixty years.
Still, she plays the devil on Chika's shoulder from time to time, urging Chika to do bad, to finish off an enemy at the cost of an ally's safety. But she does so knowing Chika can drown her out at a moment's notice, and takes great joy in the fact that Chika chooses to let her talk.

Mask Appearance and Summoning
Below the seven diamond-shaped shards that outline Chika's ivory-white mask, it is a skeletal piece with jagged teeth. Her eyes turn completely black in this stage, hiding the usual scarlet irises. Outlining the top of her mask are seven diamond-shaped pieces, starting at the corners of her eyes and ending just before the center. For in the center, the seventh piece is a much larger shard.
To summon her mask, Chika places a hand over her face and curls her fingers as if she were trying to claw into something. Her mask gathers under her palm and solidifies.
Chika's mask has gained a mild etched pattern, as though ivy had grown against and into the bone and then peeled off.
Her mask will begin to disappear after two minutes, but she can force it to stay up for as long as two minutes and thirty seconds. This has a serious drawback and if she does so she will be unable to access her reiryoku for twenty hours, and will often be so exhausted she loses consciousness and becomes totally vulnerable. When she does not break this limit, waiting an hour or two will allow her to access her mask again, particularly if she eats or sleeps in that gap.
Hollow Abilities
Cero
- Description of Attack - Chika fires her ceros from either of her palms, each is dark green and now sports a diameter of 1.5 meters.
- Limitation - Chika can fire seven ceros without exhausting herself, and each cero goes about fourty meters. This also assumes that she has not exerted herself. Ten ceros is her absolute limit, and would leave her unable to continue a fight.

Call Out Phrase: "Akeru, Hisui Hanasenshi."
Translation - "Open, Hisui Hanasenshi."
When summoning her shikai, Chika's sheathed sword is thrown in front of her and held like it was some sort of cannon. Once the release phrase has been called, a jade glow will encompass the weapon as it morphs into an open umbrella.
Shikai Appearance
Her weapon is shaped as a traditional paper umbrella. The handle is about one meter long, and is a solid jade material. The top of the umbrella is very hard and solid, made like a shield. It is one hundred centimeters in diameter. The umbrella is a dark green, and has images of roses patterned across the surface. The roses are all white. Outlining her weapon is a silver-colored blade, roughly two inches wide and paper-thin. It circles the entire umbrella. From the end of the weapon hangs a small, weighted bead which glows and levitates freely as she focuses her energy.
Shikai Abilities
Hirogeru - Unfold; Unravel
- Description of Attack - While swinging her zanpakuto, Chika absorbs the reishi and reiryoku in the air around her.
The absorbative power has increased dramatically over the years and Chika can now turn energy from other attacks into her own, using her reiryoku to trap, convert, and redirect the attack, effectively halving the reiryoku she needs to attack. When Chika absorbs an attack, she must strike it directly with her zanpakuto, which will cause the umbrella to glow while the bead flows behind her. For Ikioi Tsuku, Chika adds her own energy and releases this in a powerful burst of energy to increase her damage potential.
For Hirogeru, Chika absorbs the reishi and reiryoku of barriers and shields by striking them and absorbing, then quickly dispersing the reishi and reiryoku of the portion of the barrier she's struck. Weak barriers will collapse entirely, but strong barriers may only be disrupted for a fraction of a second.
This is used to negate and disperse other reishi and reiryoku abilities.- Type - Defensive
- Range - Contact
- Limitation - Chika can absorb the techniques of those weaker than her, but for those of equal tiers she can absorb only 70%. For those one tier above, she can absorb 40%. For those two tiers above, she can absorb 20%. For those a full tier above, Chika can absorb only 5%. Chika's ability to absorb other attacks is also limited by her state of concentration. If an enemy's attack is rushed or weak, she may be able to absorb more energy or negate the attack, provided she could perform the same attack with ease. Chika is able to negate only two attacks of an equal tier each minute, four of a lower tier, and six of a tier two below her.
The barriers of those two or more tiers below Chika will be instantly dispersed, but those one tier below will simply be weakened for two seconds. Long enough for Chika to pass through to the other side. As a general rule, Chika must be able to create the technique herself in order to negate it, and so while Chika has a 70% chance of disrupting and passing through a barrier of an equal tier, based on their kido ability, she has only a 10% chance of disrupting and passing through a barrier created by someone stronger than her.
While Chika can convert the energy of energy attacks [I.E. Bala, kido] for her own use, she cannot convert the energy of barriers and thus this takes the space of a full attack.
Ikioi Tsuku - Gather Strength; Take Heart
- Description of Attack - While swinging her zanpakuto, reishi gathers in the inside of the umbrella, causing the weapon to glow a light green hue. As it swings, Chika gathers spiritual power from herself and her surroundings, charging her weapon. Upon contact with another being, it will cause wounds akin to that of being hit by a cero. Chika has gained the ability to project this attack over a distance, in a fast-moving burst of power. The attack mirrors the strike of the umbrella and the radius never exceeds one meter.
The absorbative power has increased dramatically over the years and Chika can now turn energy from other attacks into her own, using her reiryoku to trap, convert, and redirect the attack, effectively halving the reiryoku she needs to attack. When Chika absorbs an attack, she must strike it directly with her zanpakuto, which will cause the umbrella to glow while the bead flows behind her.- Type - Offensive
- Range - Contact; 20 meter projectile
- Limitation - Damage is done respectively based on tier and any other variables. Chika can form about ten of these on her own power before she is too tired to make any more. Chika is no longer injured by her own energy.
Chika can absorb the techniques of those weaker than her, but for those of equal tiers she can absorb only 70%. For those one tier above, she can absorb 40%. For those two tiers above, she can absorb 20%. For those a full tier above, Chika can absorb only 5%. Chika's ability to absorb other attacks is also limited by her state of concentration. Chika is able to negate only two attacks of an equal tier each minute, four of a lower tier, and six of a tier two below her.
Her projectiles are significantly weaker than her direct attacks, dealing only two thirds of the damage for the same amount of energy.

Plane travel without a gigai was always a blast, but Chika had taken for granted how useful gigai were for things such as sitting in a seemingly unused chair. After twelve hours of shuffling around, being tossed around, and sat on, Chika was glad to be back on the ground where she could climb back into her gigai and get some food that didn't smell like an airport termninal. She had a small bag of supplies over one shoulder, but the most important were slung over her shoulder and on her hip - her zanpakuto and the ausachi she carried along with her.
Finally free of the cabin, and the airport, Chika made her way out of the airport, hopped onto the back of a shuttle, and finally rolled off in a suburb off of Tokyo. She hadn't been in Karakura for a long, long time, and the last time she'd seen it, there weren't a fifth as many people.
Teenagers and kids brushed past her, hardly noticing the unusual cargo she carried on her hip and her back. One or two whispered about the implications of someone carrying weapons in public, and she cursed. She'd forgotten about that. It wasn't legal to carry swords in Japan.
"Are those real?" a darker girl asked, ignoring her fidgetting companion. "Because I've never seen a real sword outside of the dojo!"
"That so?" the woman asked, cocking her head. "Between you and me, yes."
"Have you ever used them?"
Oh had she. "Oh sure. I fight monsters with them."
"Bakadori," the girl's companion whispered, leaning in, "Don't talk to freaks carrying swords. What if she's in a gang?"
"Aw that's not fair," Chika groaned. She wasn't in a gang - she'd been fighting real actual monsters to keep kids like these two safe! And one of them was accusing her of what, being a mob boss? She'd beaten up mob bosses too! "And even if I was, kid," voice raised, cheeks puffed out indignantly, oh gosh, she was much angrier than she should be letting a human get her. "You should watch it! A real gangster might beat you up for that kind of talk!"
The boy immediately hid behind the skinny girl, who smiled very faintly. "I think they're cool! And the tsuba look like they match too. Where'd you get them done?"
Ignoring the boys' protests, something about the swords being illegal, Chika answered with a grin. "Well, I forged this one myself," she said, tapping the shorter sword on her hip. "But the katana's my sister's. I'm just holding it for her."
"You have a sister? That's lucky. I'm an only child," the girl said. Chika frowned, briefly, but the girl didn't seem to pick up on it so she let it slide. "So where do you learn to make a sword like that?"
"Shinoreijutsuin," she said with a snicker. She hadn't actually made her sword there - she'd manifested it herself, a year before she received training. That smirk grew a little warmer when she finally picked up on the power between the two. She couldn't tell if it came more from the girl or the boy, but between the two they felt particularly heavy with reishi. "Not really easy to get into from here. But you could probably do pretty well, if it was. Which it's not. But good luck!"
She wondered if that blond boy from before was still around. She didn't remember his face, but his presence still lingered just on the two and in the area. Before she knew it she was walking off, ignoring the two teenagers in favor of finding a different teenager. If she could sniff him out, that was.
"Is that some college?" she heard the girl ask her companion.
Oops, she'd forgotten to say goodbye again. Oh well.
