With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
The kitchens of the Eleventh Gotei were in chaos, but one corner was finally cleaned and straightened and all the ingredients to make sweet uns were placed in a nice orderly fashion.
Umi smiled to Yachiru and had her sitting on the counter where Umi was about to begin. "Here, Kusajishi-fukutaichou...let me have your hands so we can do this together." Umi, with her hands over Yachiru's made a dip in the center of the flour, rolling the small hand to make a volcano like shape before taking the needed eggs. She cracked them into the dip and smiled.
"First, we have to make the dough...have you thought about what kind of sweet buns you want? We can use fruits or make a nice sweet bean paste...or we can have them with a sugar coating..." Umi named off a few options for Yachiru as she had the girl kneading dough and even showed some fun ways of doing it to keep the girl's interest. "Okay...that one's your s and I'll make a whole different batch, too!" Another volcano of flour and eggs made and whipped up into a smooth dough in no time.

A low groan passed through the Eleventh Division's Taichou's lips as he wearily walked through the halls of the squads barracks. Hours before, he had been busying himself in his typical manner; a long afternoon nap, followed by a brisk training session just for the sake of keeping his muscles well aware of the motions necessary to cut anything and anyone down when needed. However, between waking up late and styling his hair, he had forgone one of the most important things of the day; breakfast! It was catching up to him.
"Mmphm", he grunted with displeasure. His face a sullen mask of malcontent as that single, exposed eye shifted back and forth over his surroundings. Typically, someone would deliver food to him. However, he wasn't in the mood to sit on his ass and wait when his stomach felt as though it was turning in on itself. He wanted food and he wanted it now. The only problem was finding it.
Kenpachi Zaraki was many things; A masterful warrior, a bloodthirsty madman and the most crude mother fucker around, but one thing he wasn't was good with directions. Even in his own Division's barracks, he simply couldn't find the way to the kitchen in a straight forward manner. He had to rely upon his senses. The only problem with that, he realized as he breathed in the gradually nearing scent of freshly baked goods, was that it was making that rumbling in his stomach worse. It was pissing him off to say the least.
By the time he had reached the kitchen, he all but threw the doors down with a single shove from his right hand, the hinges squealing in protest as they threatened to pull out of their anchored supports in the door way. Stepping into the massive kitchen before the doors could swing back upon him, the tall Demon would glower at his surroundings with a look of grim frustration etched onto his face. There was so much clutter and mess, but where the Hell was the food?! Growling, he'd clench his hands into loose fists before speaking.
"Tch, the Hell is the food, God damn it?" He muttered in his typical rasp. However, it sounded as dangerous as it did when he was about to slaughter someone who wasn't worth the time. Hunger tended to make him an irritable man and few things could fix that. Food, a good fight or the presence of Yachiru were the only things that tended to calm him when he was in such a mood. Unfortunately, he was so annoyed that he didn't recognize the presence of the latter as he began to stalk his way over toward one of the cabinets, where he literally ripped a door off of the hinges in his search for food.
"...Fruit, nuts...sugar." He scoffed dismissively. He didn't want a snack, he wanted food! Freshly roasted boar! Some kind of meat! Substance! Bearing grit teeth through a malcontent grimace, it seemed as though he were about to tear this kitchen apart if he wasn't sated soon.
Yachiru was studying closely, intently, smile wide on her face and eyes luminous with joy as she stared at the ingredients of one of her most favorite treats (and there were many): Sweetbuns! She was going to make the other division members make her some later on, so it was important that she had the underlings pick up some for her.
When Umi asked her to help with the kneading, she couldn't help but comply. "Ok, Nami-chan~!"
Kneading the soft dough beneath her tiny hands, she was more than happy to spill out the answers to all of Umi's questions, most notably the question of what flavor to make the buns.
"Bean~!" She chirped, just in time for the door to fly open.
Of course, when the door practically flew off its hinges, Yachiru smiled wildly. "Ken-chan!" She chimed happily. Odd, he didn't seem to notice her.
A smile widened and brightened, though it barely seemed possible, it must have been, because it happened. Yachiru had long since forgotten about the dough as she approached the enormous captain, leaping onto his shoulder happily.
"Ne, Ken-chan, I haven't seen you anywhere!~" Yachiru chirped as she waved before the eyepatched man's face.

Umi smiled softly at how intent Yachiru was being to watch and remember what everything was going on. She even offered some small tidbits of the secrets of making the best sweet buns. "Sweet Bean? Okay! I can show you how to make a really, super tasty sweet bean paste." Humming a bit before she paused and felt her heart thudding in her chest. Oh no...
The doors slammed open and Umi's heart decided it was time to leave and began crawling up to her throat. Her face bled of any color as she stood with a handful of sweet dough in her hands as if it might ward the Demon of the Gotei from her. Oh god, oh god, oh god. He was hungry? Was he going to eat her? There was a window near by, she could run out of it and just high tail it home. She should do that...that was a fabulous idea.
Umi set the ball of dough down and began slowly inching towards the window. Closer...closer....Maybe with Yachiru distracting him she could get away unnoticed? Maybe she could just chalk this up as why she should never ever have entered the 11th Division. For any reason. Their Captain was a monster! He even looked like a monster.
She managed this far, her hand on the sill of the window as she pulled herself up and was practically hanging half in and half out of the window. Shunpo lessons...she would sell herself to Byakuya as a servant of his House for Shunpo lessons. Yes, this was wise! That way, she'd stop getting herself in these situations and be able to escape from them.

Kenpachi's displeasure seemed to be growing with every passing second. He wanted food and his ventures had proven to be less than fruitful. The air in the area seemed to be gaining weight, his frustration manifest into the physical world as his reiatsu took effect on the area. If he wasn't soothed soon, the entire kitchen would be torn apart in a fit of hungry rage.
And then, he heard that familiar voice.
Almost instantly, that weight faded as soon as he heard Yachiru's voice and felt her tiny form clamber up onto his shoulder. That angered expression peeled away, causing an all too pleased smirk to curl upon his lips. Relaxing as it were, he'd look back over his shoulder to the waving, pink haired girl that was his Fukutaicho and best friend. Letting out that hoarse chuckle, he'd smirk all the more before responding, a door still in his hand.
"Eh, Yachiru...Been busy. The new kids are gnats...Barely even worth the time it takes to look at 'em." He lamented in his own way. He had hoped at least one of them might surprise him but truthfully, not even a single one was remotely impressive. He needed better standards for admittance into the Eleventh, but that required paperwork. He never did paperwork. Dropping the door, he'd look around the kitchen for a moment before his eyes spotted that one girl. One who was creeping toward the window with a look of absolute horror upon her face. It wasn't one that he was unused to.
"Eh, you...Where's the food around here?" He didn't sound hostile, but he didn't sound all too friendly either. In fact, it almost seemed as he was indirectly demanding that she supply some foodstuffs for him. Either way, he wasn't advancing upon her. However, she was standing infront of a table covered in dough...
Yachiru nodded to Kenpachi with an understanding smile. Wimps, the lot of them!
Of course, she'd been terrorizing those of her own and of other squads. No one had been able to distract her from her pranks for long enough to get her to stop!
And it didn't help that a certain shop-keeper she called Hat-chan had given her all of those grenades, which she had hidden safely under the floorboards in her quarters.
She bounced on her Ken-chan's shoulder, peeking over to see that Nami-chan (Umi) was trying to escape out the window. She didn't know why--perhaps she was simply going to get some fresh air!
"Ken-chan, Nami-chan was teaching me to make sweetbuns!" Yachiru scolded childishly, albeit, she never stopped smiling for even a fraction of a second. "Ne, ne, Ken-chan, help us make them~!"

Umi was about to haul herself out of the window when she froze hearing the irritated voice of the Captain. Busted. She looked back into the room she was desperate to get out of. A drop of sweat from her temple as she came to the realization that there would be no escape and she pulled herself from the window and back into the kitchen.
"Zaraki-Taichou...I...I don't really know the layout of the kitchen of the 11th Gotei. Kusajishi-fukutaichou and I were simply making sweet buns." Both eyes were closed tightly, for surely she would be killed an eaten at any second. She waited with held breath and one eye peeked open to look at the pair. It was comical to see the big Captain being 'scolded' by Yachiru, but Umi wasn't brave enough to laugh. "I-I-I could try to find something to make for you, Zaraki-Taichou, if you like." Perhaps if she cooks something he won't devour her.
She paled when Yachiru demanded Kenpachi help them make sweet buns. Wanting very much to snatch the girl up and clamp a hand over the girl's mouth. She was going to die...she was sure...again. Her whole week had been filled with scary Captains. Alright, Kyoraku-Taichou wasn't exactly scary, but still.
She took in a deep breath and her jaw set in determination. The hell was she thinking? She could handle this. The mind-numbingly scary Captain was just hungry and Umi was a good cook.
..........
Umi was already running for the door by the time her determination turned to dust at the sight of Zaraki's shark-like grin. She wasn't that good of a cook and she would be eaten and made into a sweet bun if she didn't get away from the Demon Captain.
Yumichika had expected the kitchen to be empty. Feeding time at the zoo was over, so aside from from the flies left on the filthy dishes, the room should be empty. Therefore, it would've been the perfect time to grab his daily pack of pistachio nuts he kept hidden in one of the cupboards.
Keywords being 'should' and 'would'.
Considering the effects of a night he'd rather not remember, the fifth seat had to make modifications to his already pristine outfit. On his hands were gloves, frilly and white (they were the only ones he could find on a short notice) and on his head, a purple silk headscarf that he draped over his hair to hide its rather unsightly style and colour. Unfortunately, his face was still the disgusting shade of pink. Thankfully, he had not crossed paths with anyone. Yet.
As turned the corner to the kitchen and was a little more than shocked to see the doors almost falling off the hinges. That meant only one thing. Kenpachi Zaraki was hungry. Yumichika almost wanted to back away, knowing just how his captain acted when his carnivorous appetite was not filled. But as he peeked his [perfect] head through the door, he was surprised to see his little pink-haired demoness of a lieutenant perched on his shoulder.
And then, as if things couldn't get any better, a random female ran towards the door, almost slamming into his beautiful (pink) visage.
"Hey! Watch it!" he said, doing a mix of a side-step and a pirouette around the woman, holding his headscarf to keep it from falling off. He hoped that moved quickly enough to keep anyone from noticing the current colour of his skin.

Kenpachi took Yachiru's scolding with that same grin, as though he had never been bothered by it at all. No, that girl was one of the few who completely understood him; he would never be bothered by anything she said or did. If anything, it was all too endearing. Letting out a dull chuckle of amusement, he would only grin all the more as he stared at the woman who looked as though she were about to drop over, dead. The offers to make food pleased him, yet his hunger could be pushed aside for the moment to appease Yachiru. After all, was there anything that she asked of him that he didn't do unless there was the promise of a fight afoot?
"Alright." He agreed aloud, although Yachiru had to of known that he would agree to it even if he knew as much about cooking and baking as he did about social graces. However, before any appeasement could be indulged, the woman took off running. His eye followed her, watching her as she nearly bowled over his effeminate fifth seat, who had just entered. A look of disappointment crossed over his face, as though he had been expecting such things. How many people tended to run from him these days?
"Tch", he scoffed in outright disapproval before suddenly, he was moving. He didn't have mastery of Shunpo like people such as Byakuya or Soifon. No, he moved by means of his own physique. It just so happened though that he was capable of a comparable speed. Umi could feel a brief gust of air pass her before suddenly, the Eleventh Division's Taichou was right infront of her, standing there just as he had been before. With Yachiru still perched upon his shoulder and a look of mild annoyance upon his scarred face, he'd look down at her.
"...What you doin' out here? The kitchen's back there...You ain't tryin' to run out on Yachiru's lesson, are you?" His tone was casual, but there was a certain danger behind it all as he raised an eyebrow toward her questioningly. For some reason, he seemed to be even taller as he stood there, as though that minor offense had triggered something within him. The sheer pressure coming off of him was oppressive, like the hall was closing down upon them. "You ain't lyin' to me or Yachiru, are ya?"
"Ne, Nami-chan, where are you going?" Yachiru asked. Umi was caught in the act, there was no denying it. The Fukutaicho only smiled as if nothing was amiss. Perhaps she was just going to get something? Yes, of course! After all, everyone adored Yachiru. Why would they run away from her?
The captain beneath her couldn't possibly be the reason!
"Ohaiyo Peacock-head~!" Yachiru called to the lady-like fifth seat as he spun around Umi. She smiled, just the same. After all, who didn't love Yachiru, save for...
Most of her own squad?
When her Ken-chan carried her in front of Umi, she was still on his shoulder, smiling as if nothing was happening. However, that smile grew into a frown as Kenpachi suggested that she may be trying to leave them. She put a finger to her lower lip, pouting slightly.
"Ne, Nami-chan, you're staying, right?" The Pink-Demon asked in her little voice. She was complete unfazed by her captain's reiatsu, remaining in her pout as she awaited a response.
