Note: This character is switching hands from Sam to myself, and as she has gone through some MAJOR changes during the plot, I have updated her history and personality accordingly. I have also extended on other areas, such as appearance.
--------------------
General Information
--------------------
Name: Hotaru Aosawa
Actual Age: 100
Appearing Age: 10
Gender: Female
Appearance
She weighs 77 pounds and stands at 4 feet and 6 inches. Hotaru is an averaged sized child, appearing to be around ten years old. She has black hair, which she has grown out to about her shoulders. Her bangs are parted right down the center, having three sections where they group together into small curved points.
Similarly to her sister, she has striking scarlet eyes, though hers are narrow and have a rather steeled image. A slightly immature face, however, her nose may be upturned, her chin pointed, but her smile is disturbing all the same, paired with those narrowed scarlet eyes of hers.
After deciding she wasn't going to kill Kaki, Hotaru has found more time to search for human clothes, and as such, her attire changes on a day-to-day basis. Instead of wearing her candy-patterned kimono, she has a variaity ofstolenlegally obtained clothing. This is a wide array, consisting of anything from T-shirts to jackets. Her favorite color, which helps to guide the clothing that she wears, is a light, pastel yellow, followed closely by pink.
Unlike her sister, she is quite interested in the clothes of humans, and will go out of her way to search for them. More often than not, the clothes that Hotaru picks up are high-end, and of supposedly high quality. As such, not all of her clothes are easy to move around in. That, however, is just what she wears outside of her gigai.
Inside of her gigai, she now wears a silk, pastel yellow kimono with a green lining, switching the obi with a seafoam-green sash and a pastel-pink sash.
Personality
Completely bent on revenge, Hotaru has driven herself to insanity. Whether or not any part of her remains emotionally stable is questionable, as all she seems to think about is her revenge at this point. She has gained quite a few violent tendancies, to the point of being willing to threaten anyone she believes may be trying to prevent her from obtaining her revenge.
She has reached the point where she can smile while talking about how she is going to kill someone. That someone almost always being her half-sister, Kaki. She has developed a fixation on blood, which is extremely intense.
When she isn't speaking of killing someone, she's probably scarfing down some sort of dessert. At the very least, revenge hasn't changed her undying love for sweets, and she'd be perfectly happy to take a bribe of candy should one be offered to her. Often times, she eats far too much and gets herself sick.
It seems that no matter who she's speaking to, she uses unnaturally polite speech. She has a tendency to add honorifics at the end of everything, even when speaking of her sister (she still refers to Kaki as "Nee-san").
However, since Kaki saved Hotaru's life, she has grown quite confused. She is not sure whether or not she wants to kill Kaki, and so, in the mean time, her goal is to surpass Kaki. She has vowed not to let Kaki save her again, and she has vowed to obliterate her sister if she tries. However, even this is a confused threat.
Hotaru will often contemplate on what her purpose should be, as she doesn't believe she was meant to simply surpass Kaki.
Hotaru has developed a hobby: she likes to steal clothes from humans, never while wearing a gigai, and stash them up in the mountains where she and Kaki reside. She will actually force Kaki into wearing the clothes, by using a magical force known as guilt. Kaki has become like a dress-up-doll in that regard, and Hotaru seems not to mind, nor care.
History
Gather 'round, friends, listen to the story of a girl who went from moderately sane, to obsessed with revenge! Born in the twenty-second rukongai district, Hotaru lived a moderately calm childhood. Her mother had died during childbirth, so life was a bit lonely for the two. She was quite close to her father, however, curiosity drew her to the ShinĂ´reijutsuin. Making a trip up a few districts, she only came out of curiosity. There was no other reason. She was fairly young at the time, and not necassarily fit to become a shinigami. Of course, she returned as soon as she had come, not finding anything of interest.
Becoming a shinigami wasn't something she decided she would do overnight. Six months passed, and slowly she began to ponder what it might be like. It'd certainly be interesting. She did possess more reiatsu than the average soul. Maybe she'd be able to? Taking up swordsmanship became something she'd done, rather spur of the moment. It started with a wooden sword, on the third month before she began to consider it seriously. She didn't consider it seriously until her father gave her a sword, and she wanted something more. Well, she could get better training if she went to the shinigami academy, right?
Well, that IS what she did. Whether it was smart or not, it was what she ended up doing. Around the same time she began to leave, her father met a woman named Kame. She didn't know what to think, but things would be quite different when she returned.
Her time at the shinigami academy wasn't anything special. She was an average student, with average abilities, with the exception of swordsmanship. The training from beforehand gave her an edge when she was trained in that. She liked the academy, though she was very much a loner, not associating with others on a personal level. Perhaps she knew a few names, but she didn't know much else besides that. She was, however, with the extra training, coming quite close to learning the name of her zanpakuto. On the night she graduated, she heard the words, "Consider it a graduation present," before the name of the child within her mind.
Taking a breif leave, Hotaru began to journey back, only to find something quite distrubing. Two graves, marked with the name of Kame, and her father. In a rage, she carved the gravestone of her father so that the name was unrecognizable, denying the fact that his killer had ever killed the man named "Aosawa Jirou". Asking around, she gathered some disturbing news: her father, and Kame, had been murdered by their own child. It wasn't well known, it was an inference. The two had been found dead, and the child gone, no signs of a struggle.
And so it happened, that Hotaru swore she would gain revenge. Returning to the sereitei lasted for a very short amount of time, in fact, only a few years. She left the Sereitei, ironically, just in time for Kaki to enter the academy. Marked, by herself, as a rogue, she had searched everywhere, high and low. She left not a single stone unturned, searching for the girl who was her sister--no, half-sister. Unable to find her in the Soul Society, she has recently left for the world of the living. She wasn't officially considered a rogue until she literally stole passage through the gates.
Her search for Kaki began fruitlessly; instead of meeting with Kaki, she met with an arrancar named Samyeru. This arrancar seemed quite alarmed when Hotaru stated that she was looking to murder her sister the same way that her father was murdered long ago. She considered this arrancar to be an enemy from that point on.
During her search, she encountered a friend of hers from the academy: Areno. Convinced that Areno was trying to hinder her attempt at obtaining revenge, she attacked him, even going as far as to break his arm before Daigoro stepped in, subduing her. Things looked grim, and she thought she would be captured, until Samuii saved her. The arrancar, Samuii, scared off the other shinigami with ease, and even drove Hotaru to hunt Kaki with even less remorse.
At one point, Hotaru nearly did accomplish her goal. She found Kaki, though neither of the girls recognized their sister until an introduction was given. Hotaru was the first to notice, and she was the first to strike. She completely overwhelmed Kaki, at first, but the smaller woman stopped her dead in her tracks with a bakudo, fleeing. Samuii confronted Hotaru about this, and she went as far as to attack the small girl. Yet, Hotaru's resolve only grew.
Once more she found Kaki, and once more she wanted to kill her. Revenge was so close, and it was teasing her. It was sweet, and it was something she wanted. Before Hotaru could strike, however, Kaki explained to her the circumstances under which she killed their father and mother. Hotaru, however, was even less pleased than before, and attempted to kill her, only to be stopped by Samyeru. Kaki then yelled at Samyeru, explaining that she actually wanted Hotaru to kill her. Hotaru's words were, "Then, nee-san, allow me to bring you death," as she moved in with every intent to kill Kaki.
Yet, revenge was not granted. She was interupted by Takeme Sanmaru, who had every intent of murdering her. Daigoro and Sanmaru, together, seemed able to overwhelm Hotaru completely. Hotaru found herself knocked from the battle by her own sister, and from that moment on, a plan was put into action: Hotaru would fake her death, and Kaki would fake losing control to her inner hollow.
The plan worked.
After that, Hotaru and Kaki couldn't help but celebrate, glad to have survived the ordeal. In a rage, however, Samuii attacked Hotaru, attempting to end her life in frustration. Hotaru was shocked to be saved by Kaki, who shielded her from the blow, taking a near-killing blow. Samyeru chased off the other arrancar, and the two were left to resolve their differences.
In the end, Hotaru decided not to kill Kaki until she was sure it was her purpose.

Zanpakutō
--------------------
Name: Chika
Translation - Scattered Flowers
Unreleased Appearance
Her sealed zanpakuto is a katana, the same as many others, except for it's hilt, and guard. The guard has the appearance of an intricate flower, but no colors, thus is completley gray. The hilt has a soft, lush substance covering it and is black. It extends to about three feet and is two inches wide.
--------------------
Zanpakutō Spirit
--------------------
Name: Chika
Gender: Female
Spirit Appearance
Chika takes the form of a rather bored appearing girl, one who stands at three feet tall. She is quite skinny. Most notable about the girl are her hands, with thin and boney fingers with pointed fingernails--not quite claws, as they are still kept rather short. Her golden hair falls just to her shoulders, a flower (different almost every time that Hotaru encounters her zanpakuto spirit), tucked behind her left ear. She has two very bored seeming blue eyes that never show a hint of emotion.
Chika is clad in a white, silk kimono with a floral print on the sode (sleeves) and below the obi, which is yellow. The flowers on the kimono include yellow roses, asters of a sort, and sakura, along with many other flowers and vines. She carries a pink umbrella over her shoulder at all times.
Personality
As for personality, Chika is very quiet, rarely having much to say. She speaks through actions, rather than words, and when she does use words, they come in fragments. She has a rather mischeivous side to her, despite her few words and emotionless eyes. For example, she enjoys sneaking up behind Hotaru, or remaining hidden within their inner world.
Relationship to Master
Chika serves as something of a mentor to Hotaru when it counts. However, Chika will not openly teach Hotaru of herself, but will guide her in her relationships. She believes that what Hotaru does will be right for her in the end, but will become concerned if Hotaru becomes too insane as a result of those relationships. Similarly, she will occasionally scold Hotaru on her eating habits, as they are much less than healthy.
She enjoys sneaking up behind Hotaru while in her inner world, as well as hiding within the garden, forcing Hotaru to search. The two typically get along well, though they are not the best of friends.
Inner World
Her inner world is like a greenhouse; a glass dome above a garden, filled with assorted flowers. In the very center, a tall tree takes its place, towering what seems to be a thousand feet high, through the roof of the greenhouse. Flower petals always seem to be raining down from this tree, though the colors are inconsistant. For instance, one day they may be blue, the next, yellow.

Zanpakutō Shikai
--------------------
Call Out Phrase: "Saibun, Chika."
Translation - Roughly: "Divide, Scattered Flowers," and Literally, "Divide into small pieces, Scattered Flowers."
Shikai Appearance
Strangely, Hotaru's weapon is a buyoh, a japanese-style umbrella carried as an accessory. The diameter is measured at about eighty centimeters, and the handle is about eighty-five centimeters long. The parasol is a pale pink, with white, blue and yellow flowers scattered along the fabric, whereas the handle is white. The fabric circle doesn't cover the portion of the frame it is stretched over, and four inch needles stick out the end. There are a few key differences from a normal parasol, such as the eight sharpened frame ends, used as blades. The fabric is actually hard enough to be used as a shield.
Shikai Abilities
Kyoushuu no Hana
- Description of Attack - With a horizontal wave of her zanpakuto, during which reiatsu is collected and forms at the center of the parasol, Hotaru sends a large mass of reiatsu at her opponent, said mass changing colors as it is hurled through the air, shifting from a pink (immature) blast to a yellow (mature) blast.
Immature effects: While the blast is immature, it isn't as powerful as when it is yellow, exploding and causing more widespread (though half as powerful) damage as the mature blast, spreading out about ten feet. It turns yellow after flying ten feet.
Mature Effects: The mature blast actually implodes when it makes contact with anything, causing damage similar to that of a shakoho (not nessacarily in power), however, after flying about ten more feet it changes to a blue color, and when it does, it becomes virtually useless and disperses within a few feet of turning blue, doing literally no damage to whoever it may touch.- Type - Offensive/Kidou
- Range - Twenty feet total
- Limitation - The blast is only useful for twenty feet total, and the blasts are about two feet in diameter. (10% of reiatsu used to mantain shikai is used to make these.) There is a substantial risk in taking damage if she attempts to use this ability at close range, as anywhere within ten feet will cause damage to Hotaru.

One of her favorite pastimes had to be just this. Hotaru was simply relaxing in a children's park in Karakura town. She smiled as she stared intently at the ice cream on the cone before her. Oh, sweet, sugary goodness! Ahem! The girl, in a dignified fashion, took a lick from the ice cream cone, savoring it. Slowly, she began to consume the frozen treat.
Behind her, her sister was carrying a large bundle of cloth--oh no, she was making Kaki carry her clothes.
"Nee-san," Hotaru said quietly, "Please do not make those facial expressions; they're bad tact."
"Bad tact nothing!" Kaki growled, stumbling forward and plopping the pile of clothing onto the bench. The vizard glared at her sister, who merely continued to devour her ice cream. "It's bad tact to make your LITTLE sister hold all your junk too! That sure as hell didn't stop you!"
Hotaru's eyes went wide at the barrage of informal language assaulting her ears. Did she seriously just swear at her!? Hotaru was so shocked, she dropped her ice cream as she attempted to register what had just happened. "Nee-san," she warned, turning a dagger-filled glare to Kaki. "Do not stray into lacking such tact. It is an insult to Otou-chan."
"Insult to Otou-chan nothing!"
"Kaki!"
Kaki sighed, rolling her eyes. "Alright, alright. But I'm not carrying your junk."
"Then you aren't living."
"Damn you're a sore loser," barked Kaki.
At that, Hotaru's face went bright red.
