Name: Kuroda Momiji
Actual Age: 152
Appearance Age: 15.
Gender: Male
Appearance
s822.photobucket.com/albums/zz143/Vegeta3986/?action=view¤t=Kurodamomiji.jpg
Kuroda Momiji is somewhat tall at 6 feet exactly. He weighs 160 pounds. His hair is between dark brown and black in color, dreaded and shoulder length. One dread in particular always hangs down in his face and is constantly in his way. On his left shoulder there is a scar that reaches from his shoulder blade to his sternum, which was inflicted upon him when he trained in Rukongai. Both his arms and legs are of a strong build, but aren't very defined. His skin is a sort of light coffee brown, with the only imperfection on it being his long healed scar.
As for his clothing, he wears the standard black Hakama and Kimono, and his obi is standard as well, but it is often found very messily tied. He takes very little consideration about how it looks. He sees it as a tool to hold up his Hakama, and not as something that needs to look nice. He is always wearing a ring on his left hand (It is either on his index or third finger) with the symbol "Trust" engraved into it. Behind his ear, he always has some sort of writing utensil stuck there, whether it be a pen or a pencil or even a piece of charcoal. As a result, he will sometimes have black smudges on the backside of his ear. To go with the utensil, he has a sketch book tucked on the inside of his obi belt, which is full of drawings of the various people in Seireitei, and even a few drawings of the different Captains.
Swordsmanship Style:
Kuroda almost wields his Zanpakuto in both hands, the only exception to this being when he releases his shikai, which forces him to use each hand separately.
Personality
Kuroda is a good person overall, but his attitude towards some people and certain ideas is rather uncouth, sometimes making him seem like a real prick. He is also a somewhat foul-mouthed person, swearing at even the littlest of things.(His hair in his eyes, perhaps a stone in his sock, etc.) If anyone disagrees with something that he says, he will furiously argue with them to prove himself right. When he loses an arguement, he is temporarily resentful towards the person he lost to, but after a few days he lets it go and resumes his normal, pleasent self. He believes that words are meaningless unless you have the skills to back them up, and hates it when someone brags about how great they are. If anyone that he is with won't get over themselves, he will tell them to prove how great they are in any way possible. He also hates it if anyone nicknames him, this particular pet peeve came into light when Risa called him 'Kuro-kun' when he was in the academy and Kentaro made fun of him because the way it sounded. Despite the fact that she always calls him that, he can't seem to ever get mad at her, perhaps slightly annoyed, but he never can bring himself to yell at her.
However, if the people around him aren't annoying him, Kuroda is quite the pleasant person to be around. He enjoys going out to eat and drink with his squad members and friends, often staying out past midnight in whatever restauraunt they're in. Depending upon if he's in mixed company or not, Kuroda tends to watch the women around the restauraunt, more than once getting slapped for staring too long at their breasts.
In battle, Kuroda is very calculative, judging the opponents carefully and seeking out which one would be best to fight. Once engaged with an enemy, he focuses only upon them, never getting distracted by other fights or possible escape routes. If he feels that he is being overpowered, then he will call out for anyones help, but wont run away. He believes that he should see each fight to the very end, whether it be the opponents' or his. But, he is merciful, if the opponent is noticeably weaker than himself, he will finish the battle quickly or force them to give up so that they suffer as little as possible.
When Kuroda isn't performing shinigami duties or with friends, he enjoys solving mind puzzles and drawing as well. One of the most common themes in his sketchbook ais the captains. For no apparent reason, he sketches them more than anything else. Also, in his room there is a small book filled with mind games that he flips through from time to time.
The Little Things
A few of his favorite foods are Sushi, Teriyaki Beef, and Dim Sun. His least favorite food is Natto. (Fermented Soy Beans and Rice) He writes with his right hand, but draws with his left. He is afraid of death by drowning. Kuroda can read lips, a skill that he learned from an old squad member. He also makes wooden swords.
History
Childhood
Age: 0-80
Kuroda was born in Seireitei on April 8th, 1858. Kuroda never knew his parents, for they were killed by an escaped Hollow from the 12th squad barracks, although they were both shinigami, they weren't so powerful as to defeat it without sustaining fatal injury. After they were killed, Kuroda was found by a young female shinigami and she took him back to Seireitei and cared for him in secret. While growing up, he would pretend to be a Shinigami, crafting makeshift swords from wood and fighting make-believe hollows. And although the woman tried to keep him a secret, he was discovered by a few academy students when he was playing one day, but they never told anyone. For years, he was cared for by the woman, who's name was Kumiki Nakamura, and belonged to squad thirteen. She raised him like a son, for she had none of her own. And because she was a shinigami, Kuroda decided that he too would one day join the thirteen court guard squads, though she had no idea. That is, until eighty years after she had found him lying in the ruins of his family's home.
On his 80th birthday, Kuroda told her of his desire to enroll in the Shinigami academy. Immediately and harshly she refused to let him go, saying that he was too young and she wouldn't let him end up the same as his parents. So when she refused, he quickly developed a resentment to her, his still immature mind thinking that she believed him to be weak. So even though she was the closest thing he had to a mother, he left her in the dead of night, setting out for Northern Rukongai. He took only his favorite wooden sword, the clothes on his back, and a sizable pouch of money, looking to prove her wrong and that he was stronger than she thought. Strong enough to become a Shinigami.
The only thing that he had left of either of his parents was a photo of his mother and father sitting in a cherry tree grove and on the back of the photo were the words 'With trust comes strength, with strength come wisdom, with wisdom comes life.' Kuroda knew that a wooden sword would not get him very far in a fight, so as soon as he was to find a capable blacksmith, he commissioned a nodachi, which nearly emptied his money bag. With his new weapon, he searched Rukongai, trying to find someone strong to trust, however he was betrayed time and time again. First he befriended a man who provided food and shelter for him, but ended up getting the small amount of money he had left, stolen from him by the man. The next person he trusted abandoned him when they were ambushed by a few bandits, leaving Kuroda to kill for the first time in his life, and third tried to kill him. Kuroda only escaped because the man tripped over the doorway and accidentally stabbed himself in the chest.
This pattern of trust and deceit began take its toll on Kuroda, making him less trusting of anybody, and eventually making him into a solitary-type person. That is, until the day that he met her.
Kurodas Years in Rukongai
Age: 80-113
The her that the met was a girl who saved his life when he was severely outmatched by a gang who he had challenged. He was surrounded by seven men, and out of nowhere she kicked three of them before they could react, providing the distraction he needed to dispatch of them with a few sweeps of his sword and then defeat the other four with her help. His trust was renewed when she remained by his side, even after the fight. Soon he found out that she too wished to become a shinigami. So, they both worked together, to become strong enough to get into the Academy. That girls name, was Risa Nanahara.
After thirty and three years of traveling together, they were known in North Rukongai District 12 as a 'police force' of sorts. They were hired as guards by different merchants to dissuade anyone who wished to steal from that merchant. In time, they had collected enough money to commission a Katana for Risa, before that she only had a small knife which was starting to rust. They were nearly evenly matched in swordsmanship, with Kuroda only a tad more skillful. But for all their fame, they made many enemies. These enemies are what finally showed them that they were as strong as they could get without proper teaching.
One evening they were attacked by 30 of their most feared enemies; the two gangs known as 'The Northern 20' and 'The Vipers'. At first they held their own but bit by bit, they began losing ground, slowly realizing that they were outmatched. With only five men remaining, Risa was cornered by three of them. Kuroda saw her pinned to the wall and ran to save her. He swung his nodachi putting his full force behind it, cutting down the three in a single swing, but before he could turn to face the last two, one of them sliced open his back with a large knife, and the second nearly cut off his head, missing by only a fraction of an inch. With Kuroda lying on the ground, Risa managed to stab them both and end the fight, but afterward, when Risa had bandaged Kuroda up, they both agreed, that had been too close of a call. They had to become shinigami.
Shinigami Academy
Age: 114-120
(On a side note: It's Kurodas Birthday when they go to the Academy)
They traveled in the academy the next day, signing up for the second term and beginning their studies the following week. Kuroda quickly found out that they were two of the four best students, which instilled a sense of pride in him. As he moved through his first few months of school, he exceeded in both Hoho and Swordsmanship, gaining recognition from not only the students, but the teachers as well. But, for every upside there was also a downside, for him Kido was very difficult. He hated everything to do with the subject. He never had spells blow up in his face, he was good at controlling them, but he had trouble remembering incantations and aiming his spells, more than once causing large fires in the school. From time to time, he would even go to the extreme of ditching kido class to go to the school dojo and fight anyone who was there, even if they were in an upper class. After several months in the school, Kuroda met a new student named Masaki Matamura. Kuroda was walking to Kido class early one morning when he heard Masaki bragging about his swordsmanship. Kuroda was immidiately irked by this and made a beeline for the small group of people that Masaki was chatting with. He confronted him, telling him that if he was so good, then he should spar with Kuroda. He was only going to Kido class and he could skip that, so they were going to fight in only a few minutes time.
Arriving at the dojo they picked up their boken and walked to the center of the ring with the others circling aorund them to watch. Bowing, they took their respective stances and prepared to battle. The fight was over within the first five minutes, Kuroda had hit Masaki upside the head, knocking him out. But, Masaki had managed to strike Kurodas wrist, breaking it, and Kuroda was cradling his arm, his boken lying on the ground forgotten. Even though it hurt, he refused to have anyone heal it, as it was proof that his skills were superior, even when he was at the disadvantage.
Continuing to learn more and more, Kuroda had two more close friends, the other top students in his year, Kentaro Izarashi, and Ayumu Akimoto. Ayumu was the best healer in their year, and was aiming to go into squad four after graduation. Kentaro was more interested in pure combat, looking to fight for squad 11 in the future. Throughout the 6 years that they studied there, those four always were at the top of the list after every exam, none of them ever placing lower than fourth. Finally, the fateful day came, the day that they were to graduate and become official Shinigami, going out to fight hollows, heal comrades and further better the Soul Society itself. On that day, they were all surprised to see that three captains were in their presence, although they didn't recognize them by their faces, they knew the numbers on the back of their Haori. Four, eight and thirteen. Kuroda could just feel their power eminating from their very appearance, and he made a vow then and there, that he would become a captain as well.
Discovery of Shikai
Age: 151
Kuroda had been out of the academy for 31 years, and in that time he had accomplished much, but he still had yet to release his shikai. One evening, he and a couple of squad members were returning from a quick sweep of northern Rukongai, when several weak hollows appeared. But right behind them was a single Gillian Class Menos Grande. The two other squad members knew that they would probably not be able to fight it, but Kuroda felt confident that he could kill it without breaking a sweat. Try as they might, none of their attacks could even damage the Menos. Kuroda, for the second time in his life, was truly afraid, kneeling on the ground preparing for his death. But then he heard a voice. Not from the squad members, or the screaming bystanders, but from his sword.
"You really can't do much can you? Considering how long you've fought with me I thought you could do better." it said.
"Who? My sword? You...you're talking to me?" he replied. Kuroda had always felt a second consciousness in himself, but it had never interacted with him.
"Yes, and you are doing a very poor job for how long you've been wielding me. Now tell me, why can't you kill that Hollow?"
"What the hell are you talking about? Of course I can kill it! I just need to get at its mask!"
"He who doesn't know the power of unity, knows only weakness. You can't beat it alone, you have to learn to work with me. I am the zanpakuto Raiton Konkyo. I am part of you, part of your power that remains dormant. You haven't listened to me speaking to you, thinking that the power you were using was only your own and that it was sufficient. Cast away that foolish assumption and unleash my power as well. Add my power to yours and it will be strong enough to defeat that Gillian. Now, release my power!"
"I-I know that I'm stronger than that thing, I have been fighting for nearly three quarters of a century....but perhaps me alone isn't enough....Yes.... I have no choice. How do I call upon your power?"
"Say that phrase which you know to be part of our bond, then shout out my name. That, is the only way!"
"The phrase that is part of our bond...." Kuroda thought deeply, what words did he know were part of his no.....their power? Slowly they came to him, filling him with new strength and courage. He had always felt he could beat it, but that assumption was wrong. He alone couldn't kill it, so now he was going to share the burden for the sake of victory. Standing slowly he faced the Menos head on and pointed Raiton Konkyo straight at it, shouting those words that would turn the tide of the battle. "Strike from the heavens! Raiton Konkyo!" The Hollow and everyone around were blinded by a bright yellow flash from the zanpakuto, and when it dissipated, Kuroda was still wielding his sword, but it had split down the middle, and now he had a sword in each hand. Even though he felt more powerful with them, he felt a sense of disdain to their looks. They were still large swords, which he liked, but the blade had become straight and the Tsubas had morphed to resemble lightning bolts. He frowned a little at this, but shook it off as he sensed the energy eminating from them. After several seconds of staring, a faint yellow aura began to glow on the edge of the sword in his right hand, but not the one in his left.
The sudden surge in Reiatsu made everyone in the vacinity cower and made Kurodas hair fly about wildly as if it had a mind of its own. Gritting his teeth and letting out a great war cry, he dashed forward towards the Menos. He was no longer afraid of its vast size, and had decided that he was going to completely annihilate it. The Menos turned slowly, its slow paced mind still registering this new, more powerful Reiatsu. But before it could completely look at him, Kuroda had sprung into action. He pushed off the ground jumping high into the air with his zanpakuto held above his head. Due to some instinctive feeling that arose, he began to fuel a massive amount of his spiritual energy into the right handed blade, looking at it and gasping in awe as the yellow light lengthened to be nearly as long as the sword itself. The Menos had seen him by now and Kuroda felt the fear once again as a bright red cero began to form in its mouth.
"No! Show no fear! Press forward and cut it before it can fire at you! It has size but that's all it has! Cut it like you would any other hollow! shouted Raiton Konkyo.
Kuroda began to fall and with Raiton Konkyos words in mind, he swung his zanpakuto down at the Menos, hearing a sound like millions of bees, as the yellow light dug deep into it's mask, with the left handed sword trailing right behind it. But it didn't stop there no, the swords pressed on, continuing to cut through the hollow as if it were butter, all the way down until Kuroda was standing back on the ground, where the light returned to it's normal length. Kuroda felt weak, but he still managed to laugh in triumph as the Menos evaporated into nothingness, and his zanpakuto returned to it's sealed state.
His shikai, newly found, brought him great pride, he now truly felt that he could fight to his fullest extent, at least until he could unleash his bankai.
Time To Present
Age: 151- 152
Kuroda recently left his old squad, squad 12 and the Research and Development Bureau, simply because with his captain dead, he saw no point in remaining. Now he is in squad eight. In the past, his old squad members would chastise him for referring to the captain by his first name, and often try to convince him to do otherwise. However, he has no intention of doing so, as he sees no point in the honorific. He feels that as long as people know that the captains are the strongest, then being called by a title is little more than meaningless.

Name: Raiton Konkyo
Translation - (Lightning Guardian)
Unreleased Appearance
awesomeeli.deviantart.com/art/Zanpakuto-Raiton-Konkyo-167549415
Raiton Konkyo, in its sealed form, is a single Nodachi. The blade is 45 inches long and the tsuka is 13 inches long. When drawn it appears white due to the way light refracts off it, but when Kuroda hold it in his stance it is revealed to actually be a very dark shade of silver. The Tsuba is black and is perfectly round with thunderclouds pressed into it on both the top and bottom sides. The Habaki is also black, but with a small line of gold down the spine. The Tsuka is wrapped in yellow dyed ray skin and wrapped in maroon cord. His sheath is charcoal black, held on Kurodas back by a cloth harness that he made himself, which goes over each shoulder and under the opposite armpit, tying off in the back. On the side of the sheath the characters for lightning are painted in yellow by Kuroda.
--------------------
Zanpakutō Spirit
--------------------
Name: Raiton Konkyo
Gender: Male
Spirit Appearance
Even though he is a dual wield zanpakuto, Raiton Konkyo is a single spirit, residing in both blades. He is personified as a 6'7, dark skinned, jet black haired human. His eyes are one of his most stunning features, as they are a bright electric yellow. He dons black samurai armor, and although it is unused, it's missing several chunks from the shoulder pads and is completely devoid of a helmet. Although it appears worn, it is nearly always perfectly clean. When not wearing his armor, his outfit reflects what his master is wearing, so it is nearly always the shinigami uniform. In contrast to the rest of his appearance, Raiton Konkyos hair leaves much to be desired. Uncut and unkempt, it tumbles down to his mid-back and has locks of it sticking out in nearly every direction, looking like he had just been in the largest tornado the world has ever known. If his forehead is looked at closely, it is possible to see a faint scar right above his left eye that curves down and stops right above his left temple. Though mostly covered by his hair, it is still visible.
Personality
Raiton Konkyo is very contemplative, often remaining silent for the majority of the time Kuroda spends with him. He often gives advice 'Confusious-style', making it sound more like a riddle than anything. He is also a perfectionist. When it comes to his armor, Raiton Konkyo leaves no room for flaws. As soon as he spots a single speck of dirt or grime marring his armors sheen, he pulls the piece off, whips out an old cleaning rag and begins to shine it vigorously until he is satisfied. He completely loathes the fact that his armor is missing several chunks in the shoulder pads, and does his best to try and draw attention away from them. The other pet peeve that he has besides his armor being dirty, is when the scar above his eye is noticed.
Relationship to Master
Back when Kuroda first released his power, Raiton Konkyo always harped on him for not listening to when he was calling to his master. He gives Kuroda advice from time to time, but the way that he says it will often confuse Kuroda more than it helps him. He is still getting used to Kuroda, as it has been little more than a year since he had been released, and they still argue, but not as often as when they first started. But there is always one thing that they argue about just as often as when they first officially met.
Kuroda critisizes Raiton Konkyo any time he catches him cleaning his armor. Kuroda can't help but laugh and point out that he is the only one who sees the armor, and that it will only get dirty again after he cleans it.
When it comes to deciding who they want to fight, Kuroda and Raiton Konkyo usually agree on who will be the opponent. They sense for whoever has spiritual pressure that is near Kurodas level, so as not to make the fight too hard or too easy. But, sometimes they will over or underestimate the foe they have chosen, which results in a quick fight or a very difficult one. Raiton Konkyo sometimes gets bored because Kuroda dislikes releasing him. He doesn't like the straight shape of him, saying that it 'Doesn't look as nice as his sealed form'.
Inner World
s822.photobucket.com/albums/zz143/Vegeta3986/Decorated%20images/?action=view¤t=047.jpg&t=1277418608458
Kurodas inner world is an enormous, Japanese Shogun style, castle, towering over a dark and gloomy looking forest. There are always a few crows flitting about, and it is always night. The moon does shine, but it is always filtered through heavy sloud cover. Inside the castle however, it is lit by dozens of lanterns in every room. Kuroda will always appear on the thired level of the castle if he wants to talk with Raiton Konkyo, though they do travel to the upper and lower levels.

Zanpakutō Shikai
--------------------
Call: Strike from the Heavens!
Shikai Appearance
s822.photobucket.com/albums/zz143/Vegeta3986/?action=view¤t=RaitonKonkyo.jpg
Raiton Konkyo splits down the middle, becoming a pair of identical blades. Each one still shows some characteristics of the sealed form, as most shikai do, but also have several new features. The blades have become perfectly straight, resembling Ninjato instead of Nodachi, and each has shrunk to 38 inches long. The tsuka and tsuba have kept their colors, with the exception that the ray skin is now black instead of yellow, but have changed their shape. The tsubas now resemble three lightning bolts spreading from the center of the blades, the tsukas have developed a sort of hook that comes to a point on the same side as the edge of the blade and have also shrunk to be 11 inches long.
Shikai Abilities
Kyuuten Ranpu - (lit. Heavens Light)
- Description - Kuroda puts a small amount of his spirit energy into one of his blades which makes a yellow aura sprout form the tsuba of the blade and flow up the blade covering it from habaki to tip.
- Type - Element Activation
- Effect - Lightning Element Activation. Allows for use of Kattaerekutorikku and Shinkon Suttoraika
- Range - 0 m
- Limitation - Kyuuten Ranpu can only be activated in one of the two blades at a time, limiting when Kuroda can use his special attacks. Each time it is switched form blade to blade, it drains Kuroda of 3% of his energy. It also take a total of four seconds for heavens light to go from blade to blade, 2 seconds to vanish from one blade and 2 seconds to reappear in the other.
Note: Kuroda can choose not to activate Kyuuten Ranpu, but he cannot use his shikai abilities then, it also cuts down a little on the cutting ability of Raiton Konkyo.
Kattaerekutorikku- (Lit. Cutter Electricity)
awesomeeli.deviantart.com/art/Kattaerekutorikku-168567652- Description - Kuroda shouts out 'Katta!' and fuels his reiryoku into the right handed sword when Kyuuten Ranpu is on it, which lengthens the heavens light by up to three feet, increasing the length of the blade, and infuses the lightning element into the edge to increase the power of Kurodas sword swing.
- Type - Lightning, Offensive, Physical
- Range - up to three feet
- Limitation - This ability can only be used by the sword in Kurodas right hand. Kattaerekutorikku can first be used one post after Raiton Konkyos' release and takes a constant, moderate flow of Reiryoku, thus it cannot be sustained for long periods of time without leaving Kuroda too weak to fight. It has a maximum usage time of 30 seconds before Kuroda has to cut off the flow and has a cool down of three minutes. This attack takes 15% of his spiritual energy for each fifteen seconds that it is sustained. Also, because it is just an extension of the blade, it can be blocked by another zanpakuto.
Effects on different Tiers: Anyone that is 1 tier above Kuroda would take 50% of the normal damage from Kattaerekutorikku. Anyone 2 tiers higher would take 25% of the maximum damage. Anyone 3+ tiers or more above Kuroda take no damage.
Shinkôn Sutôraika
- Description - Kuroda draws back the left handed Raiton Konkyo when Kyuuten Ranpu is on it to charge the attack, shouting "Shinkon!" and when he swings the blade forward to unleash the attack he shouts "Sutoraika!" which fires dense spiritual energy in the form of a shuriken shaped disk of red lightning. The direction that the disk spins is the opposite direction that Raiton Konkyo is swung. (Left if Swung Right, Down if Swung Up, Etc.)
- Type - Offensive, Ranged, Lightning
- Range - The disk is 1-1.5 meters diameter depending on the amount of time Kuroda charges it, and it travels up to 15 meters before dissolving.
- Limitation- This attack can only be used by the sword in Kurodas left hand and can only be used once Kyuuten Ranpu is activated in the left hand sword. It travels in a straight line and can be dodged easily. The charge time for the attack is one and a half seconds minimum and three-and-a-half seconds maximum. This can be used twice every minute and uses 15-20% of his Spiritual Energy per shot. This attack could be canceled if grounded by and earth-type attack or defense.
Effects on Tiers: Those on Kurodas own tier would take 80% of the maximum damage. Anyone 1 tier above Kuroda would take 60% of the full damage, 2 tiers above would take 40% and 3 tiers would take 0-20%.

(This is after the Winter War, before Kuroda left squad 12, and before the Sirens' Call)
Readers are plentiful; thinkers are rare.
The somewhat young-looking boy, paced up and down behind the line of computers, watching the work of the several scientists that he was in charge of. Raising his hand up to his brown, he tried to brush his hair out of his eyes, succeeding with all but one lock, which he could never get to stop hanging in his way. "Damn hair, why can't it just stay straight..." he muttered.
"Hey Kuroda, come take a look at this." said one of the researchers sitting at his computer. Yawning boredly, Kuroda slowly walked over to the computer, shifing his gaze to the screen, reading what it said.
"What is it this time Sashira? If it's another weak hollow siting I'm gonna.....what the hell? Sashira, what is this?" Kuroda furrowed his brow, on the screen were some readings of.....something...that were dangerously high, and Kuroda needed to know what they were.
"These are the current spirit energy levels around the north gate. They just suddenly jumped to this!"
Kuroda nodded. These were incredibly high readings. But they weren't from a shinigami, they were too erratic. Any shinigami with that much power would control it, not let it all out in a burst like this. "Hmm. This looks somewhat interesting....alright I'm going to go check it out and..."
"Sir! More readings! This time at Sokyoku Hill!" shouted another researcher across the table.
"Theres some just inside the north Rukon District too!
Kurodas jaw dropped. This many fluctuations all at once? There was no way that this was possible! "Are you sure your units aren't malfunctioning?"
"No sir! They are fully operational!"
"In that case, were going to need to get some more people out there." He began to make a list in his mind of who to take, but was interrupted.
"Wait sir. They. Just disappeared. The readings are back to normal. Perhaps out equipment was malfunctioning." said Sashira, his voice trailed off.
"Meh. I told you so. Alright, back to work." said Kuroda. He was hiding it well, but he was worried. It was likely that the computers hadn't been malfunctioning, and that there really were those fluctuations, but energy that big, didn't just diappear instantly. He didn't have an explanation for it, but something was definately going on. He had never seen fluctuations like those, so he didn't know what they would cause. Being in the dark scared him, and he knew that something had to be done. But where to start; that was the question.
