With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
As was the case with most children, Arashi knew the ritual of janken by heart. He mimicked Ukitake-taichou's pattern with a precision that had been honed from years of the craft. As a matter of fact, Arashi was so in the zone of janken that he was actually a nanosecond ahead of Ukitake-taichou's motions. This wasn't enough for him or anyone around to notice. However, as a captain of more than two-hundred years, his captain was sure to catch this.
When they threw their respective choices, a small glass broke in the back of the young Shinigami's mind. He wanted to win janken such that he could just avoid Ukitake-taichou. Now he would have to chase the captain all day. Wait, he could tag the captain right now. They were inches away and Arashi would quick enough to be able to do that. After all, who would expect an attack this early? No one. That's who. Thus, Arashi resolved to try to end this quick.
"Sorry, guess that means you're it."
Arashi grinned at this before leaping at his captain with all his might and using Shunpo to speed himself up. He outstretched his hand to tag the captain in his midsection.
"No Ukitake-taichou, YOU'RE IT!"
As he spoke, he continued to move closer and closer to his captain. Would he tag him? Probably not. But damn it, he was going to try.
As expected of the young man, he tried to tag him right off the bat. It was a good thing that Ukitake was far more skilled then him and simply grabbed his arm and pulled him passed him like he was nothing. "Now now, we have all day to play, but I'll give you an 'A' for effort." With that Ukitake decided that the training area was just perfect for this little game.
The others decided to get out of the way and observe this little match. It was an interesting opportunity to watch the captain take an active interest in someone's training.
Ukitake shunpoed to the middle of the training area and waited. He wasn't going to run, after all he was far too fast for the young man. "Use any method you like in order to tag me, I'll be right here." He smiled at Arashi, arms in his sleeves, and waited. This will be quite fun and hopefully teach Arashi the meaning of perseverance.
He tried it with the young Lilynette during the war, but in the end she had been part of a another in more then one way. Too bad, she had such potential.
"Now now, we have all day to play, but I'll give you an 'A' for effort."
Arashi had been flung a few feet away from his captain as the older man dodged his tag attempt. Landing on his feet, he turned around and made a very frustrated face. So, it didn't matter; he could still easily tag Ukitake-taichou. There was no doubt about that in his mind at all. He could Shunpo all day if he needed to. With a small, childish grin, Arashi threw untied his obi sash so his swords fell to the sword with a soft "thud". They would get in the way if he got two into this game of tag.
"Alright Ukitake-taichou, let's play."
"Use any method you like in order to tag me, I'll be right here."
With that, a burst of Shunpo brought him inches from his captain's body. He went to reach out toward his captain but instead used another bit of Shunpo. This burst brought him a few feet behind the captain such that he could get a running start before leaping at the captain's back with his arms outstretched. He held his breath as he dived. Perhaps he would actually tag the captain this time.
Oh, the boy was using some impressive shunpo. Ukitake had a face of awe on as Arashi moved from here to there with such ease. But unlike other people, Ukitake didn't bother to react to the feint.
A classic move, feint from the front but actually attack from behind. It was just so cliche that Ukitake just side stepped out of the way with enough room to let Arashi grasp at air. "Maybe a different tactic would be in order." He recommended as he picked up Arashi by the skin of his shirt and tossed back to his Zanpakuto.
He felt a bit peckish and coughed slightly. That was when a female shinigami came up. "Did you need anything Ukitake-taichou?" She sounded a bit nervous and tried to avoid direct eye contact.
Smiling over at her, he did feel the need for something to drink. "If you doubt mind, I'd like some tea. Did you want anything Arashi-san?" He asked and smiled her way. This made her very flushed and nodded, but before she went away she waited for Arashi to answer. A weapon that he was unaware of, his smile could make almost any woman blush.
As the Captain said this, he picked him up and gave him a toss towards Arashi's own zanpakuto laying on the floor. As he had been picked up, Arashi had tried to swat at Ukitake-taichou's midsection but this attempt was in vain. He had been thrown before the smaller Shinigami could tag his commanding officer. As he landed on his feet near his own Zanpakuto, he considered what his captain had said. He should try a different tactic if he wanted to tag him. Looking down, he saw his zanpakuto and smiled; he could tag Ukitake-taichou with one of those.
Stooping down he picked up his wakizashi by untying it from his obi sash. Then, as he stood up he noticed a woman standing near Ukitake-taichou and talking to him. This made the young Shinigami very angry for some reason. His captain should take him more seriously. He was very good at tag and wouldn't stand for this kind of neglect.
"If you doubt mind, I'd like some tea. Did you want anything Arashi-san?"
"No Ukitake-taichou, I'm just going to tag you now."
As he spoke, his face got red. Ukitake-taichou's not taking him seriously was making him very angry. But, taking a deep breath, he thought of a way he could tag his Captain. A feint within a feint might work. Yes, it would have to. Using some of his best Shunpo, he placed himself inches from Ukitake-taichou before poking his pommel at him. However, this poke would not have time to reach the captain as Arashi mirrored his earlier movements by Shunpoing behind the captain. He outstretched his free hand at the Captain. This would not be all in his bag of tricks, however, as he used Shunpo once more to place himself at Ukitake-taichou's side before swinging his sheathed zanpakuto at the captain. Hopefully that would tag the older Shinigami. Hopefully.
