Just Another Day (Merc)

[Nagase Hisao]

Nagase sat in the shade of a tree located near one of his favorite spots. From here he could watch the people pass by as he lounged in the shadows. It was a wonderful activity people watching. He felt he could tell something about a person by the way they carried themselves and some of the people who passed he even knew.

He leaned back against the trunk of the tree as he watched a shinigami pass who held himself like he was royalty. It was hilarious to Nagase because he could tell by the way he looked that he was, in fact, just a low ranking shinigami much like Nagase himself. A laugh came forth and he struggled to compose himself as the other man passed. Luckily he didn’t seem to notice that he was the target of the laughter.

Ange whispered in the back of his head “You are going to create more problems for yourself Hisao if you keep this up.” Nagase responded that he would fine like he always was. Standing up he stretched his legs. Stumbling forward since his left leg had fallen asleep, Nagase almost fell off balance. Regaining his footing he rubbed his leg in annoyance while muttering under his breath.

Kazuki strolled, enjoying the breezy evening air with his arms folded behind his head. Work was over for the day, and most Shinigami were heading home, out to eat, or to gather for their evening rituals among friends. Kazuki, on the other hand, had been shirking duties for most of the day--and that was hard work! It took a well practiced suave that few like him possessed to avoid those that would put him to work, for the better part of the day.

And so, as he reached the area that was a sort of mini-park, he let his arms drop with a sigh. He supposed he should meet his squad mates for an evening drink or two, but he was honestly too lazy to do that. After such a hard days work, he figured he'd relax a bit, then turn in early.

His eyes averted to a man that stood, and he noticed he was stumbling. Kazuki let out a grin before he spoke.

"Careful now. They say the pains of old age will catch up to you."

Granted, the young man didn't look too much older than Kazuki, but hey....gotta take jabs where you can fit em in!

"Maybe I can speed to the forth and get a cane for ya!"

[Nagase Hisao]

As Nagase looked at the shinigami he guessed that the man was younger than himself but age meant much less when you could live for a few centuries. He looked at the man as he pulled Radiance, sheath and all, and leaned on it like one might a cane. He mimicked an old man who was tired after only a step or two with Radiance superbly playing the part of his trusty walking stick.

“Hey now” Nagase said ending his act “I’m not that old and I am a member of the Fourth Squad.” Retuning his crooked glasses to their perch on his nose, Nagase stretched to regain feeling in his leg. A smile appeared as Nagase felt his leg become responsive. He reached out a hand to the other shinigami and said “Hi, I’m Nagase Hisao.”

He wondered what squad this shinigami belonged to. He figured he could ask after he got a name if he didn’t simply include his squad in his introduction. His mind wandered to the fact that he had likely managed to neglect his chores today thanks to his completely misplaced sense of time. Deciding it did not matter in the slightest, he could make up for some missed work after all, he waited for a response.

[Mercurious]

As Kazuki watched the man lean on his Zanpaku-to as if it were a cane, he let out a chuckle. He remembered the few times he has used Kasei no Shinka to reach something he couldn't, like one would use a coat hanger to scrape something that fell behind the dresser. He let out another, small 'heh'. She had been pretty upset and hadn't spoke with him for a week.

I am an instrument of Justice, and you use me to find a spare pair of socks!?

He felt his Zanpaku-to glower at the memory and he shrugged if off mentally as he watched the man out stretch his hand. Kazuki took it with a slight clap.

"Kazuki Kobayashi, 4th Seat of Squad 5. Pleasure to meet ya, Nagase! What brings you here this evening?"

Granted, it wasn't any of his business, but he might as well make a new friend, right? Just from the few moments they interacted, Kazuki found the man very likeable. "On a side note, good to know someone in the fourth!"

Kazuki bit back a nervous laugh as he looked to the man.

[Nagase Hisao]

"Indeed it is good to meet you, as for what I am doing...That is a good question" he chuckled. He really was doing nothing and enjoying the day. Nagase had intended to go to the library at some point but there was no rush. After all he had no pressing medical issues to attend to.

Ange muttered something about being a weapon not a cane in the back of his mind but he knew she was fine with his joke. Ange, despite the distant and stoic nature she put forth did, in fact, have a sense of humor if well hidden. He held Radiance in his left hand now with the hilt protruding out and the gem on the hilt hanging down.

"What brings you to these parts?" he said. Maybe he could join this man for some fun since Nagase was drawing a blank on something to do. The other shinigami was a seated member of Squad Five and he was, likely, younger than Nagase. Nagase wondered what that said about him. He could probably qualify for a seat in Squad Four on the middle range of seats. He had made his goal to become at least one of the top five seated members of his Squad, hell maybe even Captain one day.

"You need me to give you your Bankai first, don't get ahead of yourself Hisao" Ange responded to his train of thought "and you are not yet ready for that." What a killjoy. Nagase returned his mind to the man in front of him.

As the man seemed to not know what he was doing, Kazuki folded his arms behind his head as he looked to the side. "I hear you...." Of course he didn't want to speak on the matters of not having been doing work all day. He was, after all, a Seated Officer. He didn't want the man to think he was lazy....

He wasn't lazy, he just hated work. He actually spent a good deal of effort getting out of it.

As the man asked what brought Kazuki around he looked back to him, his arms dropping. He shrugged on their way down. "Just out for a stroll after a hard days...work. Was actually trying to decide what to do. Settled on heading to the little tavern right outside the gate, for a drink or two. You game?"

Truthfully, he hadn't made any plans. But if he could sit down over a drink and chat with a potential new friend--especially one versed in medical support--he'd have no qualms with that. Kazuki was accident prone, he'd admit. It wasn't that he didn't know how to fight, it was just he wasn't the most...well built. He was wiry, and when he got hit--if he got hit--it usually hurt. A lot.

Nagase tried to think of the last time he went drinking. He had gone out with a few friends and he remembered only vaguely waking up the next day. He could not handle alcohol at all his friends had told him after the fact. Ever since then he has made sure not to drink too much.

“Sure, I’ll have a drink or two” he finally said. Hopefully this wouldn’t end with him on the floor or talking a little too much. He put on a smile as he retuned Radiance to its spot on his back. He reached for his necklace but remembered it wasn’t there. He let out a sigh; he really needed to get back to the human world one of these days.

Shaking his head to get that subject out of his mind, he waited for the other shinigami to lead him to the tavern of his choice. “By the way, I have yet to find a Kido that cures drunkenness” he said with a wide grin.
