With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
A weekend of shopping, that was his first mistake. Roy was just your run of the mill about to be new dad put buying whatever he thought his soon to be born daughter. Ok, run of the mill wasn't the best way to describe Roy Dylandy. An immigrant from Ireland, Roy had developed a sort of reputation as being a ladies man around town. So when former glory sees him with bags of baby clothes, whispers tend to happen.
Now, Makana would have been jealous because the murmurs were not about how he must have knocked someone up. No, they were about what a handsome father he is and he would make a great dad. Yeah, even with a moment like this, the ladies were more attracted to Roy because of how fatherly he is.
He hadn't been out much and he already had a few bags he carried over his shoulder. He bought more, but that was to be shipped to his apartment later. Brushing his brown locks away from his face, Roy look at at his cell for the time. The Irish style Quincy cross shined in the light that was in the mall.
He was near the food court and it was near lunch time. Looking around with his emerald eyes, Roy looked for something good to eat. Things like burgers or pizza crossed his mind, but he could make better ones at home. "Decisions, decisions..." What he wasn't aware of was that there was more than just food on the menu.
Ugh, life really did suck. Why did she have to get a job? Why couldn't she marry someone rich and famous, so that he could pay for her house. Groaning, she looked at her ridiculous taco hat and apron. Why in god's name would anyone want to eat a taco, simply because an employee wore a taco hat? Why?!
Frustrated, she smacked over a napkin dispenser and her Quincy cross came sparkling out of her shirt. Quickly picking the dispenser back up, she gripped it and admired it. It truly was beautiful, and just having it with her always seemed to soothe her.
"Ohmigosh, did you hear? Roy is going to be a father! I wonder if he's tracked down the real mother yet!" her co-worker gossiped with a customer, most likely a friend, and then started to cackle.
Standing close enough to her "shop", but looking around, she called out to a man holding numerous bags. She rolled her eyes before she called out to him, "Hey, if you want a taco the line would be over here" she said, emphasizing the here.
"Hey, if you want a taco the line would be over here"
Roy turned to see who had yelled out at him. A taco girl, that was new. Tacos did sound good and he was hungry, but something caught his eye. That cross she wore looked familiar but Roy couldn't remember why. He needed a closer look and decided that tacos were on the menu.
Curly brown locks fell over his eye as he walked to the stand. Brushing them back, he looked at the sweet young lady who offered him his lunch today. "How'd you know I was in the mood for tacos?" He said with his usual charming voice. Though he wasn't flirting with her, it may come off as such due to his natural Irish charm.
The shop was small but so were others in the mall. You could smell the 'authentically' made Mexican meat in the back. Other things came to Roy's realization, that the lovely young woman was more to the eye. She had an air about her that was familiar to him, a certain energy. His emerald green eye caught the cross once more, but he adjusted his focus on the menu.
So many decision and he was going to avoid the calamari taco. That just didn't sound good at all. "Any suggestions?"
As the man turned, she noted that he was way more handsome than expected. However, as her co-workers giggled at his approach, she noted that this must be the Roy they had been gossiping about. No point in flirting, dude was going to be a dad.
He walked over to her, and in a rather flirtatious voice he asked, "How'd you know I was in the mood for tacos?". She snickered once, before slyly rolling her eyes. His charm may make other girls swoon, but to her he was just another guy.
"I have a six sense for these things." she said, with a laugh and a shrug.
She noted that something felt off about the man, he was...different, but yet the same. Wait, what? Different yet the same? She silently told herself to shut up and stop sounding stupid...before she erupted in giggles. Now she was talking to herself, great.
"Any suggestions?" he asked.
She snorted, because, well, it was funny. The taco shack sucked, and the processed meat was just ever so disgusting.
"Yeah, not coming here." she muttered under her breath, before changing back to her usual optimistic voice.
"Personally, I like a regular taco. Nice meat, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a dollop of sour cream." she said, happily. Although, she really knew she was trying to sell this man garbage.
On the bright side, I have a place to live thanks to this job! she thought to herself.
Roy smiled at her comment, yeah he heard her. He never expected anything from a stand at the mall would be any good compared to homemade food. But her suggestion was welcomed and he simpled nodded at it. "Then classic tacos it is. Three please with a coke." Roy ordered his food and went over to a nearby seat to wait.
He placed the bag on the ground and pulled out his phone. He started to play some tetris as he waited. Every once in a while, he peered up to look at Konan.
She was an attractive young woman and she had a job, which was a bonus. But that pestering feeling in the back of his curly locked head that their was something familiar about her. Then that cross came into view again and it hit him. It looked just like his master's, with the pentagram. It was coming together in his head, another Quincy his path has crossed.
Was it fate that they kept popping up around him or was it some weird kids game that was controlling his every move? Roy decided that the latter was just too crazy to be real and let fate be his choice. He just needed to figure a way into letting her know that he knows what she is so they could talk about it, but how?
She grinned bashfully as the man had smiled. maybe she would just have to practice on her muttering. Was their such thing as a muttering contest? She would make sure to look it up once she got home.
"Then classic tacos it is. Three please with a coke." he ordered, and then walked away.
She nodded, and then turned, briefly noticing her co-workers looking back and forth between Roy and herself. She rolled her eyes as she screamed the order into the back, she'd be damned if she went back there to come out smelling like processed meat.
She grabbed a cup, and began filling it up with ice and soda. She glanced over at the customer, and noticed him giving her a quick look, too.
She sighed, and hoped that he didn't try making moves on her. She'd be the first person to punch him in the testicles and make sure he's unable to have anymore babies. Not that she wouldn't mind him hitting on her, if he wasn't a father to be. Konan Shirosaki did not get mixed up in baby-mama-drama.
Lost in her thoughts, as usual, the cup overflowed and she cursed. Why did she have to think? Ugh, she cleaned it up and put a lid on top. Hearing her name called, she walked back and got the semi-wrapped tacos. She put the full order on a black tray and walked over to him.
"Here you go, sir. That'll be 314.66 yen. she said, in the usual happy voice. She just had to keep looking up, and things would go her way eventually.
He didn't laugh when she overflowed the cup, that would have been rude. Besides, it seemed that she had a lot on her mind. As a counselor, he can tell when someone was over thinking about something. As long as it didn't involve him and her dating, he'd be fine. Makana would do so many horrible, unspeakable things to him.
"Here you go, sir. That'll be 314.66 yen."
Roy put his phone away and reached for his wallet. The only way he could think that would get Konan's attention without it making it look like he was flirting with her, Makana would mount his butt on a wall, and waited for a moment so that his cross was in view. "314.66? Let's see.." Once he found the money, he let a bit of his reiastu to channel to his cross. It sparked a little with blue energy as he handed her three hundred and twenty yen.
If she jumped, she could easily pass it off as static. "Change is yours." With that, he went off into the tabled area to eat. He left his bag, a perfect excuse for her to come over to see him.
Roy sat down and started to eat. He wasn't too far from the stand and he found a spot where not a whole lot of people would bother him. This way, if Konan did want to talk it would be the perfect spot. Taking a bite of the first taco, he could tell that these were not very good.
"314.66? Let's see.."[/i] he said, reaching for his bag.
She watched, bored, until something caught her eye. A cross. Now, normally that'd be whatever, many people wore crosses. It could be used to represent a religion. But there was a familiar feel to it. She shook her head, snapping out of the spell she was in.
As he handed her the money, the cross sparked. However, it didn't feel like electricity. It felt...familiar. Damnit, what is with this 'familiar' shit? She looked down at her own cross and back to his.
Quincy.
"Change is yours." he said, before leaving a bag and walking away.
She had so many questions! What were they? How could she form a bow? Why could she form a bow? What were the monsters? Why could she see souls? Finally! Someone to explain it to her! She ran back to her shack, and told her co-worker that she'd be going on break.
She grabbed the bag, and ran to sit next to the man.
She could've picked a better ice breaker, but she was too excited, "What are you?!" she asked, dazzled.
It seemed that his plan worked, maybe a bit too well. she ran right up to him, thankfully with his bag, and straight up asked. He liked blunt women and gave her a smile. It was like teaching all over again and that was exciting to Roy.
Chewing the rest of his taco, taking a sip for dramatic pause before he answered. It was a playful tease, he liked to play aloof at times. Finally placing the coke down, Roy looked Konan in the eyes. "I'm just like you, a Quincy." He was all calm about it, reaching for another taco.
Chewing it was just awful, but he was hungry. You know, he just can't finish these. Sipping some more coke, Roy pushed the tacos away."You were right, these tacos are bad." But that was off topic.
Roy was sure that Konan had questions, that was obvious. He had to introduce himself first though, it was the polite thing to do. "Roy Dylandy, and may I have the pleasure of knowing your name?" Roy can't turn off the charm around women, it was his blessing and curse. Hopefully she would just write it off but you can never tell with certain women.
She did want to learn about him, so she might just let it go. Roy sipped some more of his coke, it was the only good thing about his food.
She sighed and stared at her nails impatiently while he sipped and chewed. He was doing it on purpose, and it was kind of irritating her. Smiling, she grabbed her cross and rubbed her thumb against the cool metal material.
Now that she was calm, and that she was about to learn about what they were, she really appreciated the cross. It's what had got her this far, and without it...she didn't know where she could possibly be right now. He placed the drink down, and she snapped her head up.
"I'm just like you, a Quincy." he said, evenly.
Her eyes widened...a Quincy...? However, the moment he said it, she felt no doubt in what he said. In her heart, and with her cross, she knew that it was true. She looked at her cross and smiled, she was a Quincy. But then she dropped the cross with an aggravated, look on her face.
"Well, what the hell is a Quincy?" she asked, slowly. She wanted to ask so much more, but she didn't want to overwhelm herself, or the man.
"You were right, these tacos are bad." he said, moving the tacos away. She laughed, a bright genuine laugh. She was happy, the happiest she's ever been.
"Roy Dylandy, and may I have the pleasure of knowing your name?" he asked, in a charming voice.
Ignoring all of the charming tone in his voice, she answered normally, "My name is Konan Shirosaki. And another thing, what's with the crosses? What's with those monsters? The souls? The bow?" she asked, finally releasing all of her pent up questions.
