With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
If he wasn't sure about it before, he was now. The Shinigami was clearly too tired or injured. After all, the man just let a bala hit him. At least he was able to keep himself in the air right? That's when the man started talking again. Was he really trying to call Jericho out? It was kinda funny, was he trying to set a trap? How cute. Jericho thought about it for a second, it could be interesting to see what he had in store. The damage to him and the damage to his opponent ratio was definitely one sided. The other guy had also used up way more of his reiastu then Jericho had. He kinda wanted to see how this guy would try and improvise. "Well if you insist and are so adamant about being lazy," Jericho grinned.
He began walking towards the Shinigami and then suddenly sonidoed in front of him. He brought his free hand for a punch to the lower abdomen. "Now show me Shinigami, what is the true extent of your powers and what will you do now." He said with a little bit of a malicious grin, while at the same time he also said it with some curiosity. He then proceeded to bring his blade above his head and then downward for a vertical strike, not really trying to harm him, just to get the Shinigami moving.
The Arrancar seemed to know that Izaya was out of steam and was biding his time. He didn't care about that though. He couldn't hide the fact that he was about done. If anything, it meant that the Arrancar might get complacent while Izaya's brain was firing at twice its normal speed he had to time this just right. When the Arrancar sonidoed, he began to mumble the incantation. He exhaled deeply as the Arrancar punched him in the abdomen but he didn't stop his incantation.
"Now show me Shinigami, what is the true extent of your powers and what will you do now."
Grabbing the Arrancar's arm that had punched him, Izaya looked up at his opponent. "Bakudo Number 73, Tozansh!" With that, the pyramid formed around them. They were effectively trapped in this small space with no chance of escape. That was good; very good indeed. He backed off the Arrancar just a bit such that he had room to breathe and explain a bit.
"My zanpakuto's power over the senses is absolute, power permitting. I'm not even immune to its effects. About now you should be feeling whatever discomfort you feel from my Shikai to be increasing from the proximity. You're stronger than me so I have no doubt that you can block the effects normally. However, if my blade breaks, even I get affected."
Almost as if on cue, the Arrancar swung at him with his blade. He blocked nonchalantly with his zanpakuto as the blade proceeded to break. Izaya felt his reiatsu spike from the expenditure of what would be twenty seconds of pure hell for both him and his opponent. He was seeing double of everything but that wouldn't dishearten him much. Unlike this Arrancar, he knew how Distort worked. He dove at what would be between the two images of his opponent. He unleashed a barrage of stabs and slashes with his jagged switchblade. As he did this, he kept a mental count of the seconds. He was about done when he felt the need to shout out. "You will remember the name Kogi Izaya!"
Jericho smiled, good he was gonna do an all out attack now. Beautiful, simply beautiful. Plus he wouldn't have to worry about doing damage to the buildings. Wait... THAT WAS WHAT THE VOICE WAS SAYING! He suddenly snapped out of his bloodlust. No... what had he been doing this whole time? Sure the Shinigami had been pushing him into conflict but, he didn't have to go full throttle like that. Damnit... what had he gotten himself into now? That's when the Shinigami backed away and began to speak and Jericho listened. His blade breaking? What was this kid talking about, though he would soon find out as he swung at him. The blade connected with the kids and his zanpakuto shattered. Suddenly the Shinigami seemed to split into two. The hell was going on?
Not that he had much time to think as the two versions of the Shinigami launched at him with their fragmented zanpakuto. Was he... they crazy? At best that thing would cause nicks as it wouldn't be long enough to penetrate anything important. Then again, this was a last ditch effort by the sound of it. He would throw a bala at one and strike downward at the other but... something was wrong, it missed both of them!? This was nothing like that wolf arrancar had faced. This was not speed but... something else. Suddenly felt and saw as scratches, nicks, and slashes appeared upon his body, he was being attacked from two directions but, Was sustaining damage from neither of them but something in between. The hell?
Suddenly the kid shouted that he would remember him. That was very probable seeing as Jericho had stopped disrespecting people by forgetting them for being weaker. No... he would remember him. Just to be safe and also trying not to harm the Shinigami too much he grabbed his zanpakuto and swung it horizontally in a sweeping motion. However it was the broad side he was attacking with and making sure to hit both images and everything in between with it.
Izaya felt a small grin spread across his face as his nicks and jabs got through. It was the slightest bit of victory that he needed. However, he kept count on the seconds; he only had five left. Unfortunately, by the time he realized this the Arrancar was starting to catch on to what was going on. He had missed with a bala and upward slash but then he tried a horizontal slash. Izaya ducked underneath that but it set him back a second. He was down to three by now. He tried one last ditch effort to stab the Arrancar in the midsection two or three times before his time was up.
His zanpakuto turned back into a nodachi and the triangular prism faded away from sight. Distort ended and Izaya was done. He knew it by this point. He hadn't been able to kill the Arrancar, and that was his failing. He knew back up would come for him if anything bad happened. After all, he was on some watchlist somewhere based on what had happened earlier. He backed away from his opponent and straightened up. He looked the Arrancar in the eyes before breathing in deeply.
"Well, I'm done. Good show."
With that, the small Shinigami blacked out where he stood and fell from the sky. Someone would rescue him before he died. Someone had to.
Hmm.. another miss but, he had actually dodged this time... obviously he felt he was in danger. Jericho believed he had a grasp on this Shinigami's powers now. Though it seemed it would be a little late. A few stabs to the chest and one in the arm from an attempted block left him with indentations in his skin and some blood dripped from his wounds. He had to give the kid credit, for a last ditch effort it was a dozy of one. Suddenly the Shinigami's zanpakuto changed back into its original form. He was done. That fact was obvious, like Jericho, he had a limit on his abilities when he used them. The pyramid itself faded from sight, seemingly making it more obvious that this battle was over. His vision cleared and he found the Shinigami standing in front of him like his hunch suggested.
Quite the ability, could be even more dangerous if used a little differently. He then back away and then looked into Jericho's devil like eyes and breathed in. Obviously he had a few words to say and Jericho made sure to be attentive. He had fought valiantly... even if it was because he was a bigot, not something that can change over night. He admitted his defeat and then... he blacked out and began to fall. "Stupid kid..." this was all Jericho uttered before sonidoing under the young Shinigami and catching him. He slowly lowered them to the ground and laid the Shinigami down. He was still alive... thankfully. He had just used up all of his steam. Though, he would need medical attention soon. Seeing as there was no Shinigami reiastu around, there was no telling when help may arrive.
That's when he remembered the cave that Mikhail had brought him to. Surely there would be medical supplies there, or at least something that could help. He sheathed his zanpakuto and looked at his own wounds. His wounds merely looked worse than they actually were but, if not treated they could get much worse. He placed the Shinigami's zanpakuto into his sheath as well and hefted him over his shoulder into a fireman carry. "Its kinda funny... an arrancar helping a Shinigami... our races have held so much hate for so long yet..." He didn't finish, just stood there. He then sighed and picked up the other zanpakuto. It was quite a bit heavier than his own though, that made sense. His was a part of him and the other was not.
He began making his way towards the cave. He couldn't help but think about Mikhail at this time. Was this how he felt when he helped Jericho? Would he be proud of him at this moment? He couldn't be sure about any of that. "Well damn it all, its not like I need praise for doing this. Just... trying to be a hero I guess." He sonidoed off into the night, the Shinigami over his shoulder. An for the first time in a long time. He was happy with his actons.
