With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
Yumiko was on her first mission to the world of the living and it had brought her to a little park area. It was early in the morning, the birds were chirping, and there was still early morning dew on the leave and grass. The fresh morning air made this morning ever so lovely!
Yumiko was walking through the park that was full of red, yellow and orange foliage. Yumiko was ever so happy this morning. She was humming randomly until she got to a small pond. There were a few leaves in the pond, along with a few ducks, quacking. Along with these things, there was an old couple, feeding the ducks.
She watched the old couple for a moment. They were talking while throwing out a few bread crumbs. It had seemed like they had come here often, feeding the ducks everyday, for years it would seem. Yumiko cracked a smile. It was love! How romantic! Or at least Yumiko thought as she sighed.
Ok! It was time for Yumiko to take care of her mission, or at least start it. She began to walk away from the pond when she felt something off. What ever could it be? It didn't feel familiar, but it felt very wrong... Yumiko turned around to witness a hollow devour the old man and get ready for dessert; the old woman! Yumiko would not stand by and let this happen!
Yumiko appeared in front of the hollow and cut right down the middle of its mask, sending it back screeching in pain. It held its forehead and started screeching again at Yumiko. She merely glared in response to this.
A streak of pink flashed across the sky as one Yugito Kowalczyk leapt into the air, her right arm reeled back as her fist glowed a pale pink. When she was an arm's reach away, she threw her right fist into a punch in front of her, pink lightning shooting out of it as it made contact with the hollow's mask.
The young teenager had been on her way to school, her Karakura Highschool blazer slung over her shoulder, along with her bag as she made her way through a shortcut across a small park. Yawning slightly, she dragged her half-asleep body towards the school, when she felt a sharp spike of reiatsu nearby. Of course, taking it as an excuse to skip class (surely, Makana-sensei would understand...right?), she veered off the trail and made her way towards the small pond, seeing a screeching hollow. Immediately dropping her jacket and her bag, she raced towards the hollow, charging her newly-discovered power-punch.
She wasn't quite sure how much damage she had inflicted on it, as right after the punch connected, she lost her momentum in the air. Blinking, she fell straight into the pond, uniform and all. With a large splash, the teenager disappeared beneath the water...
...before splashing back to the surface, sputtering.
BOOM! SPLASH!! Wait, what had just happened? Yumiko blinked as the hollow disappeared, killed from the flash of pink. Though, Yumiko did do most of the damage from the first strike, and she was about to finish the job, but then there was a flash of pink and all and Yumiko was dumbfounded.
She sheathed her zanpaktou and walked closer to the water. What was that splash from? What could of made that big of a splash? Now there was bubbles... And then another splash! SPLOSH!
"...dammit!"
Hm? What was that? Yumiko squatted down and looked at the young teenager that was in the water. She didn't look like a soul, she looked real! She was a real girl! Just like the ones in the books! Although the one difference would be that she didn't have the traditional Japanese eyes, but this was beside the point. She wasn't like anyone she had seen in Seireitei, and she seemed like someone who was very young and looked it too!
Being this was Yumiko's first experience with a human, besides the two old people, whom she didn't get that close too. Interesting creatures... Yumiko cocked her head to the side looking at this young human.
"How did she see that hollow?" Yumiko put her finger to her chin thinking about the reasons that the human could see a hollow. She then snapped her finger. "Oh! It must mean you have high spiritual energy... Which means you can see me... Which means I look like an asshole... Hm..."
Yumiko looked at the ground then reached out her hand to the girl in the water. She gave a slight smile as she began to introduce herself.
"Hiya! I'm Yumiko, and who might you and your clumsy self be?" Yumiko was being a bit sarcastic at this point, especially seeing as how this girl had just witnessed Yumiko babbling on about her.
Coughing slightly, Yugito waded to the edge of the puddle, muttering numerous Polish obscenities beneath her breath as she plucked out a stray leaf from her soaking-wet hair. The pond wasn't too deep, in fact, if she stretched her toes enough, they would be able to graze the bottom ever so slightly.
"Oh! It must mean you have high spiritual energy... Which means you can see me... Which means I look like an asshole... Hm..."
Looking up, Yugito saw the Shinigami standing before her, holding out a hand. Well dammit. She should've noticed the Shinigami there. That way, she wouldn't have had to take the hollow out herself, and she wouldn't have ended up in the middle of a pond.
Yugito made a mental note to kick herself later. Oh, and to call the office to tell them that she'll be late.
Seeing no reason to decline it, she accepted and climbed up onto the dry grass, water dripping from her clothes and hair.
"Hiya! I'm Yumiko, and who might you and your clumsy self be?"
"My name is Yugito," she replied, coughing slightly as she spat some water onto the grass, "And I'm not clumsy. I just missed."
Taking her shoes off, Yugito set them on the ground, peeling off her socks soon after and laid them out as well. Frowning slightly, she untied her hair, which didn't really do much as it remained tangled.
So much for trying to make her hair look good. At least she wasn't wearing make-up.
"If you're here," she said to Yumiko as she attempted to wring out some of the excess water from her skirt without actually taking it off, "You're probably on a patrol duty, right?"
The young girl climbed out of the small pond and onto the grass. Her clothes even got all wet! Not just that, but her hair too! This was probably not a good morning for the girl. She did help Yumiko after all, and yet there probably wasn't anything she could do to return the favor.
"My name is Yugito," she replied, coughing slightly as she spat some water onto the grass, "And I'm not clumsy. I just missed."
"Missed?" Yumiko blinked a few times before making yet another smart ass remark. "No, you hit it, but you were clumsy in the fact that you misjudged where you would land..."
Wait... Her name was Yugito? Isn't that something like Yumiko? They almost had the same name! That made them like cousins twice removed or something...
First the shoes came off, then the socks, and then her hair was let down. Then a frown came across Yugito's face. Falling into a pond wouldn't upset Yumiko, just make her a bit happier, but then again, she was fond of the water.
"If you're here," she said to Yumiko as she attempted to wring out some of the excess water from her skirt without actually taking it off, "You're probably on a patrol duty, right?"
"Patrol? Uhh... Well I am, but how do you know about these things?" Yumiko retorted.
"Patrol? Uhh... Well I am, but how do you know about these things?"
Yugito gave the shinigami an odd look as she wrung out the remaining water from her hair. Why did she seem so surprised that she knew what shinigamis were, and what their jobs entailed? They were tasked with cleansing hollow and sending souls to Soul Society, at least that's what she learned from living in Karakura Town. And besides, didn't a lot of Shinigami know that there was a growing population of spiritually-aware humans in the city?
Oh well. Maybe she was new to the job or something.
"I've seen lots of shinigami before," Yugito replied, removing the red ribbon of Karakura High's uniform off her neck and squeezing the water out of it, "And some of my teachers are Quincies, so I kinda know some of the stuff that's going on around here."
She looked back at Yumiko, "Are you, uh, new, or something?"
She had seen lots of shinigami before? Strange, Yumiko didn't even really know about the human world since she lived in Soul society all her life. She knew the basics, but nothing more. Maybe it were time she found out more, like spiritually-aware humans. This could be interesting.
"Are you, uh, new, or something?"
Yumiko looked over with a slight glare. Well, she couldn't be that angry with this girl, she didn't really know who Yumiko herself was, so she could play it off. Maybe not as that she was new, maybe that she was just new to the human world. That was kinda the truth, she had been a shinigami for a bit over a month or two, so she knew what she did while in Seireitei, just nothing about the human world.
"Well, I've been a shinigami for some time now, but this is my first trip to the human world..." Yumiko smiled softly. She knew she couldn't be that new, but this girl might still know...
"So what's it like living here? I couldn't imagine being around all these new things, well, new to me, heh."
Yumiko was kinda curious, but she need not let it get to her.
"So what's it like living here? I couldn't imagine being around all these new things, well, new to me, heh."
Yugito scratched her still-damp hair, pondering about how to answer Yumiko's question. New things? Well, she supposed many things changed frequently; with the continuous development of new technology and the evolution of clothes and fashion, nothing really stayed the same for too long. They were 'fads', if she remembered correctly, and they were short-term.
That reminded her, she needed to get her new phone by the end of the week. Yes, it had only been six months since her last one, but still...
"Um...well," she began slowly, taking a seat on the grass and leaning back, propping herself up with an arm. She wasn't going to get dried off anytime soon, might as well get comfortable. "Everything's constantly changing. What would be considered 'cool' or 'new' in one month might be replaced with something newer the next month. It's...interesting, I guess. Sometimes you get used to it and you just have to, uh...go with the flow."
She hoped that answer made sense. The shinigami did say that it was her first trip here, and Yugito didn't want to ruin anyone's first impression of Earth.
Even if it was a pretty crappy place to live in at times.
"What about, uh...that place you guys come from?" Yugito asked, "The soul place. What's that like?"
