So in order to avoid embarrassing myself, I try to use dictionaries rather than translators these days.
This is one dictionary that's been pretty helpful, as it includes pretty specific terms for whatever you might search. Ex. I searched Eagle and got not only several specific types of eagle but also several other species who are sometimes called eagles. [Tangorin]
For Spanish, Spanishdict is pretty useful because it similarly provides pretty good info about usage.
