Name: Garret Walters
Age: 17
Appearance:
Medium brown hair, green eyes, slim in an athletic way. Prefers to dress as he feels comfortable, usually in jeans, a wife beater, and a button up shirt undone over it. (I will have rough image of him as soon as it is drawn and uploaded.)
Background:
Garret Walters was born in Seattle, Washington, and lived there in the U.S. for his whole life. His parents raised him in public school, but he also spent time with his grandfather on his mother's side. His grandfather had been a able bodied swordsman who used to compete when he was younger when he lived in Japan. Garret learned the ways of swordsmanship through him, and his father also enrolled him in martial arts classes when he was old enough.
At the age of 10, Garret had started to make his way in school, being very smart, he found schooling very easy and quick. He also learned a few languages and began to understand them fluently, which were Japanese and Spanish. However, that was also the time where his life was changed forever. While he was in a park by himself (his parents had always let him roam freely), he was attacked by a hollow. He was paralyzed by fear and stood still at the hollow charged at him. Being a snake like hollow, the spirit came down to devour him and out of instinct, Garret put his arms in front of him to block the massive creature.
When he realized that he was still alive, Garret looked up and saw that his right arm seemed to have transformed into something completely new. His arm had taken the shape that of a glove that had extended up his forearm, and seemed to draw back a little further back from his elbow. Protruding from this glove was a blade that he wasn't sure how long it was, since it was impaled into the hollow's skull. The hollow then started to dissolve in front of him, confusing him to all ends. When he finally saw how long the blade was, which was the size of his whole arm, he lost consciousness and passed out for a few hours. He then awoke and figured it was a dream, but he wasn't sure.
He told no one about this 'dream', but instead brought up to his grandfather, asking what it may have meant. His grandfather was unsure, but said that it may have signified that Garret's life was about to go through a massive change, and he had to attack it head on. Soon after the incident, Garret started to see spirits, but was unsure of what he was seeing. He understood that no one else could see them, so he quickly learned to keep quiet about them, and not get involved with them. However, his plans changed again when he was 15. While he was walking with his girlfriend at the time, he saw a spirit running away from something, and soon found out that the spirit was being chased by a hollow. Using the excuse that he remembered that he had something to do, he left his girlfriend and began to chase after the spirits.
When he encountered both of them, he called attention to the hollow, drawing it away from the young child spirit. Realizing that he was defenseless, he grabbed a fallen branch and intended to wield it like a sword. When he attacked the hollow straightforward, the branch was snapped instantly, and Garret then had to resort to hand to hand combat with the beast. After he had landed a punch to the hollow's mask, Garret was all the sudden reminded of his 'dream' from 5 years ago. All the sudden, his arm had started to glow a bright green light and after it was done, his arm was engulfed in this white glove, which had patterns of blue and gold imbued on it. The end of the glove at his elbow seemed to stretch on back to the length of his shoulder as was formed in a way that it would fit his arm as like a piece of armor would. The the blade shot out from his wrist and he realized that it wasn't a dream, it was real! Using his swordsmanship skills in combination with his fighting skills, he attacked the hollow again and brought it down instantly.
He soon realized that his life would never be the same with this new gift of his. He continued his education, graduating at the age of 16 with the help of special advancement programs, continued his swordsmanship training with his grandfather, and was excelling at martial arts. His father then received a job opening that would take the family overseas to Japan. He left with his parents, leaving behind his life, thankful that he was able to excel in Japanese, but was unsure of his actual ability to join the ranks of Japanese culture. Now being brand new to Japan, he hopes that he can make his way here for however long he has to, and see what the life of Karakura Town has to offer him
Personality:
Garret is a very determined person, seeing an opportunity and making the most out of it. He's driven by his goals in life, to become successful somewhere he feels at home and live a somewhat normal life considering his abnormal qualities. He likes to spend time by himself enabling himself to think about life and what the future holds, as well as improve on his newly developed 'abilities' as he refers them as. However, he prefers to spend time with others, socializing with anyone he can, always hoping to learn something new.
He always treats strangers with respect, greeting them properly the best he can, though he lacks the skill to use the Japanese terms like san, chan, and the like. He can get very curious about something he finds fascinating and will spend time trying figure out the nature of something if he has the time to. And he will also stated the truth if need be.

Transformation of his right forearm to a glove colored a white with blue and gold patterns on it. The glove fits his entire forearm up to his elbow in which it ends before the joint on the inside, but on the outside of the arm extends past the elbow to a length that if straightened out, would form to the rest of his arm to his shoulder. He is able to use this extension as some sort of shield if need be. The glove seems to enhance the strength of his attacks with his right arm.
This glove also gives him the ability to sprout forth a blade shaped like that of a traditional longsword from his wrist that extends to ¾ the length of his arm. He believes that the blade somehow hides itself within the extended portion that goes past the elbow. However what he does not know is that the blade is comprised of his focused reiatsu when envisions the blade. The strength and sharpness of the blade function off of how focused he is. He is however unaware that he can make his blade more powerful if he were to concentrate on his reiatsu.

(based off his second encounter with a hollow, as noted in his background)
It was a warm summer night, no clouds to be seen, however the stars were difficult to see as usual thanks to the city lights. Garret was walking down the street with Alaina, his girlfriend of three weeks. He remembered how they both met at the end of the school year, as she was new to the area, moving from the other side of the state. She had stumbled into accidentally while trying to get a feel for her new neighborhood when she wasn't paying attention and ran into Garret. Since then, the two had started dating and were somewhat stable for two 15 year olds to be in a relationship. They had just finished hanging out at the local Starbucks a few miles from their neighborhood, and decided to walk back home. “Garret, do you really think I'm pretty? I know you say it, but do you mean it?” Alaina asked as she clutched herself to him. “Of course I think you're pretty, and yes I do mean that. How else could I describe your beauty?” Garret was being as honest as he could, because in all honesty, she really was the most attractive girl he had dated ever. He was actually surprised that he was able to date such an angelic being.
“What if I was ugly and fat? Would you still date me?” she asked with a stern look on her face that threw Garret back in confusion. “Uh...err...” thinking of what to say back, Garret finally responded with “Sure, I guess. Although I would've wanted to get to know you better, but sure...” He began to wonder if that was the right thing to say as Alaina kept a straight face and didn't say anything. 'Crap...I screwed that up. Now she's not talking to me...not the awkward silence, no! What do I say, what do I say???' As he was starting to freak out inside his mind, she looked at him, smiled and laughed, saying “Well thank God I'm not fat and ugly!” 'Phew, that went better than I expected.' he thought. The two continued to walk and talk, when something caught his attention.
He noticed the spirit of a small child, a boy, running across the street in to a path way between houses. He knew where the pathway went, as he had walked it many times. He wondered if the child spirit knew the path well himself, as it led to portion of evergreens that soon surrounded a green field. He had spent plenty of time in that field, practicing his swordsmanship skills, as well as his martial arts abilities. He snapped back to reality when he realized that the child was screaming in fear, as if something was chasing it. Right after the child had disappeared into the pathway, a strange looking creature burst out of the house line, following the same path as the child. Garret halted, and a look of confusion and bewilderment came across his face. 'What is that thing? Why does it look familiar to me? Is it after that kid?' RRAAAWRRR!!! “Come here kid!!! I just want to tag you! Do you not want to play my game with me???” 'Did that thing just speak? It had to have. There's nothing else that could have made that sound and speak right after! He's after that kid too! There's no way that kid can defend himself!' He knew he had to help the child, but he didn't know how. What could he do?
“Hey baby, what's wrong? Did you forget something? You don't forget stuff...” Alaina said to him noticing he stopped, still clutched at his side. “Uh, yea, I did forget something actually. I know, crazy huh? Me forget something? It's impossible. I need to go get though, and as soon as I can. Can you make it home by yourself okay?” He gave her a quick kiss on her forehead, and then took off in a dead sprint after the two. “Um, sure I guess? I'll give you a call later?” Alaina responded in a confused voice, wondering why he took off so fast, and into a pathway. Was it a short cut she wondered?
'Damn my horrid ability to lie! I hope she bought that. I'll have to make it up to her and get her lunch or something later. Right now I have to go save this kid before it's too late!!!' Garret continued down the pathway after them, noticing that they had already made it to the field. RRAAAWRRR!!! 'God I hope I'm not too late...HANG IN THERE KID!!!' After running into the tree line, he picked up a fallen branch and clutched it like a sword, silently thanking his grandpa for teaching him how to fight with a sword. Though he knew that it wouldn't be easy with an overgrown stick. He made it to the clearing and saw that the monster had yet to attack the child, and was relieved, but then wondered how to defeat it. The creature's body was long and slender, resembling that of an ant, but had three sets of legs, and then had to arms that looked like scythes for arms. And on his head... 'A white mask with teeth like that...why does that look so familiar to me? Why?'
“HEY! MR ANT- MANTIS GUY!!! QUIT PICKING ON THE KID AND TAKE ME ON INSTEAD!!!” 'Crap...did I really just say that?' The creature turned around, and with it's red eyes, stared at Garret. “Who do you think you are, you puny human? You may be able to see me some how, but don't think you can beat me, especially with that twig of yours! I've tasted Shinigami better than you. How about this? I'll make you a quick meal and then I'll finish with this twerp as my dessert!” The creature charged at Garret, and Garret readied his stance. When he knew he could make a strike, Garret jumped in the air, and WHACK!!! 'I hit it! Yes! Oh wait...oh no...I should've know that would happen!' His make shift sword had broken into pieces on contact with the creature's mask, and as soon as he could see it, he was thrown back by a hit from the creature's arm and was sent flying and landed into a tree. “I told you that you couldn't beat me with that twig of yours! Now stay there so I can eat you!” 'No, I can let him kill me, I can't die yet! I'm too young, I've got my life to live still! I have to BEAT HIM!' Garret knew that he would have to try using his fists and kicks to try and defeat it, but how was his only question. He got up, sore from landing into a tree, but brushed off the pain and charged after the creature. “Come back for some more eh? Well how about this!” The creature swung it's right claw down at Garret and struck down hard. Garret barely dodged the attack, but he saw it coming and planned accordingly. He shifted his weight, and launched himself toward the claw, and then launched himself to it's face and delivered a blow dead center. 'Wait a second...is this for real? Is this how I know this creature? Was that not a dream?' As soon as he realized it, he was struck again and hit the ground hard again.
'That dream...was it really a dream? The white mask, those eyes...it's not the same monster, but it has the same feeling as it. That couldn't have been real! But this is! And now I'm going to die. But for what? Nothing! All I wanted to do was to protect this kid! I don't even know who he is, how he died, nothing about him! But here I am trying to save him! Why should I care anyways? He's already dead! NO! I CAN'T LET THAT HAPPEN! He may already be dead, but he still lives in spirit. Maybe he just hasn't found his way to heaven yet. He deserves the chance to go to heaven! I am going to protect him! I am gonna let him go to heaven!' “AND I'M GONNA SEND YOU STRAIGHT TO HELL!!!” Garret thought and said. All of the sudden, Garret's right arm started to glow green, and a bright green light emitted from his arm. 'WHAT IS THIS? WHAT'S HAPPENING TO MY ARM? IT FEELS...it feels so...so...familiar...' FLASH!!! A bright light exploded from his arm, confusing the creature as it didn't know what was happening. After the light had disappeared, Garret stood there, his right arm transformed. His forearm was in a glove that was pure white, and had blue and gold patterns that weaved on itself. This 'glove' extended past his elbow on the outside and seemed to form with his upper arm, and Garret stood there.
“I don't know how you did that, and why it happened, but it still doesn't change the fact that I will eat your soul!” The creature charged once again at Garret, and swung down hard with his left claw. WHAM!!! “HA HA HA!!! I told you I would still...wait...HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???” The creature had hit Garret, but Garret had some how used the extended portion of the glove as a shield, and halted the creature's attack. “The first time this happened,” Garret said in a calm voice, “I thought it was just a dream. My grandpa said that it symbolized that I was entering a changing time in my life. And that I would have to attack it head on. I thought it was just a dream. Too bad for you it 's not.” Garret then grabbed the creature's claw and the ripped it off it's body, as it proceeded to howl in pain. Garret then uppercut it with his arm sending the creature flying up wards. The creature came down hard and then said “How is this possible??? I've defeated Shinigami's more powerful that you! How can a pest like you defeat me? HOW???” Garret stared at the creature. He remembered that the last time he encountered a creature like this, he put a blade through it's head, and then it disappeared. “I don't know what you are, and I definitely don't know what a Shinigami is. I'm not a Shinigami though, and as I said earlier....” Garret threw his arm out and from above his wrist a blade shaped like a longsword shot out. Garret charged the creature, jumped into the air, and plunged his blade into the creature's mask. “I WILL SEND YOU TO HELL!!!” The creature screamed in pain as it dissolved away.
The child spirit came up to Garret and stated it's thanks. Garret looked right at him. “There's no need to thank me. You deserve a chance to go to Heaven. Now hurry up and get there. Live the rest of your eternal life in peace.” Garret knew right there and then that his life would never be normal again.
