General Information
--------------------
Name: Ryuu, Yami
Actual Age: 161
Appearing Age: 16
Gender: Male
Appearance
Standing 6’2’’ Yami stands rather slightly above most peers. He weighs about 70 kg. He has straight black hair that reaches just below his shoulders. Whilst his right eye is a light blue his left is a strange dark purple that darkens as he becomes enraged. He is slim and whilst seeming to have no muscle, if closely looked at it can be observed that he has a compact muscular build.
While he wears the standard Shinigami uniform he has made some modifications. The sleeves are slightly shorter than on most other Shinigami for the practical reason of moving his arms. The uniform he wears is slightly larger than his size making it a tad baggy. This allows freedom of movement without causing himself to stumble (and he finds it comfortable). He wears a pendant around his neck depicting a dragon. His Zanpakuto is positioned on at his hip on his left.
Personality
He has a laid back attitude which makes him seem somewhat lazy. Despite this if there is a task that he either wants to do or has to do he will place all his effort into doing it, however if this is not the case he will attempt to avoid the said task with a similar amount of effort.
More of a lone wolf, Yami ends up with his own company rather than the company of others making himself somewhat of a social outcast. This is not due to him being unsocial but rather that it requires him too much effort to start a conversation, but should someone else make the first efforts Yami will engage normally. He normally has a warm personality and can somewhat get along with most people, although some may feel that this is a mask as they witness a more psychotic side come out.
He has a dislike of those who think of themselves as better than others by default (such as some noblities) unless they have worked for it and have a grain of humility (such as captains). Even with those he dislikes he will attempt to hide this in order to keep things quiet as it will otherwise become a pain for him, however has no qualms about being honest about this if asked up front.
Somewhat of an analyser Yami has observed several people over the course of his life and attempts to find ulterior motives (even if there are none). This carries into his battle style. He will however quickly abandon his analysation upon finding someone he cannot predict.
He has a soft spot for young children and will occasionally help children in Rukongai. He will not admit that he feels pity on them but instead says that he feels sick in his stomach if he doesn’t, as he is reminded of himself. When fighting, and despite being analytic he displays a somewhat more psychopathic side.
Rather than going for a clean kill he will often torture his victims before death often smiling as his opponents scream in torment. However his analytical side remains in where if he was surrounded he would go for a quick kill instead leaving a torturous death for those unfortunate to be the last ones around, or killing all as quickly as possible if under injury or time limit. If children end up on the battlefield Yami will attempt to protect them. Though if the children end up being controlled by an ability or through their own choice attack him in a harmful intent he has no qualms of attacking them with his full strength. For Yami he does not care of the history, gender or personality of his opponents and generally treats all of his opponents equally and fights them with his full strength. This is also how he generally treats people off the battlefield.
History
Yami was born a twin. He and his sister lived in a comfortable lifestyle and had little to worry about. As twins they had the same face, same distinguishing features. The only difference noticeable was how his sister had longer hair as they were too young to show other differences. He was inseparable from his sister and they did almost everything together. Their lives were cut short in a village raid. Their parents survived but they died. A short time later a Shinigami performed konso on both of them and they ended up in soul society.
Just as most souls, Yami and his sister had no memory of their human lives and soon forgot their names. From the start of his life he remembered only Rukongai and his twin sister that lived with him. They no longer knew who was the older or younger one and they didn’t care, they had each other, and that was the only thing they had now.
These siblings never left each others side. They never ended up being taken in by another family so they would take shelter where they could find it and steal supplies when they could. As opposed to most other souls who needed only water for survival and food being optional, these siblings soon were filled with an insatiable hunger. This made their lives dangerous as they had to steal more than other outcasts which made them more noticeable. This lead them to have to migrate between districts every few weeks to avoid being caught.
At a certain district it began snowing as they cuddled up for the night.
“It’s so pretty.” Yami heard his sister exclaim.
“It’s cold.”
“I think, that will be my name. Yuki. You like it?”
He shrugged. And so his sister now once again had a name. He didn’t need a name, and didn’t want one. In the cold world he knew all he needed was to keep going and keep his sister happy. He swore to one day, somehow, make her life comfortable. But he didn’t have any ideas, those would have to wait.
The district they were currently in happened to be particularly wary of thieves, and neither were gutsy enough to attempt to steal here. They had seen a small group of children similar to themselves steal and they all got caught and were beaten practically to death and so they went without nourishment that night.
The next day their luck improved. A merchant with a wagon was passing through that day, the plan was to steal what they could and then sell that to buy the food and water. Then they would leave the district before the merchant even knew what had happened. As they climbed in and searched for things to steal he noticed a pendant. It was a simple pendant with a dragon on it. Despite the fact it seemed of little worth he stuffed it into his pocket whilst continuing his search for more valuable items. After another minute they both escaped the wagon and left to sell their new possessions and get some food. After arriving at their home for the next few days he turned to his sister.
“Turn around Yuki.” She complied and he put the pendant on her.
“Thanks, I really like it.” She smiled a genuine smile. It was times like this that he lived for. And his dream was to keep the smile plastered permanently on her face. He still had no ideas on how to do it but he felt as though he was edging closer.
By the time they had turned 80 they had become masters of their trade. They were noticed less and they were able to steal larger items. They occasionally got greedy which usually ended with them being found, however they had yet to be caught. One day they made off with a particularly large bundle of loot and they rewarded themselves with a feast. As they snuggled up for the night Yami had a slight smile on his face. These days Yuki started to smile more and more despite their lives. He went to sleep, content.
Part way through the night they were both awaked by the sound of screaming. A hollow. They got up and run out of the alley and as chance would have it they ran onto the street the hollow was on.
“What are you two doing? Run!” A Shinigami yelled at them to flee, and they were too happy to comply.
“Not so fast.” The Shinigami was knocked against a wall with his Zanpakuto laying in front of him, he was dead. The siblings looked on in horror as they noticed the rest of the Shinigami, also dead. The hollow jumped out in front of them, and no one could save them now.
“Now, now, what do we have here. Twins. You’re a bit of a rarity. I’m sure you will be quite delicious. Now which to eat?”
Yami had no fear in his heart.
“Eat me.”
“No, eat me.”
Yami’s heart sank as he heard those words.
“Well you’re both selfless as well now? I think I’ll take the girl.”
“NO.”
Yami rushed at the hollow but was knocked back, as a child knocked back by an adult. The strike had no where near as much force as the ones that killed the Shinigami but it was more than enough. The hollow then devoured Yuki. The pendant she wore fell beside him as he watch his sister die. Tears started pouring down his eyes, but he was too shocked to make a sound.
“This taste! This is the best thing I’ve ever eaten. And incredibly filling considering how weak you are. I’m not even hungry anymore. As a twin, I’m sure you’ll taste just as good. But I’ll leave you for now, I like my prey running for their lives. Enjoy the last days of your life.”
The hollow turned and began to leave, but Yami’s brain had snapped. His brain would normally tell him to run, and that the odds were too low, just like the town with the wary shopkeepers. He’d get caught and beaten to death, it wasn’t worth it. But as he saw his sister in his mind all thoughts stopped and the world was quiet. Yami put the pendant around his neck and grabbed the fallen Zanpakuto in front of him. He ran without a sound, and stabbed the hollow through the back.
“Ahhhhhhhh.” The hollow fell silent. He wasn’t dead and didn’t dissipate as hollows would, he was still alive. The hollow struggled, but couldn’t move. A purely lucky strike had hit a perfect target, and the hollow wouldn’t be moving anytime soon. After what seemed like an eternity to both of them as he thought of what to do next.
“Tell me, did my sister taste good? Did you enjoy eating her? Then you wouldn’t hold it against me, if I eat you alive! Know the name of your killer. I am the darkness born from the evil like you, and the dragon on this pendant that stands at the top of the world. Ryuu, Yami.”
The hollow couldn’t even move his mouth to speak, but the fear was evident in his eyes. Then Yami grabbed the hollows side, and ripped it off, stuffing it in his mouth. Yami didn’t even notice the taste, all he was concentrated on was the fear the hollows face. The thing that had given him the most joy was seeing his happy sister, but this was the second. Yami continued to eat the hollow bit by bit and as he did his left eye started changing colour to a deep purple. As he continued to eat the hollow the change became more evident, and the hollow became more fearful. Yami revelled in this until the Hollow died. After a few hours Yami had devoured the whole hollow. He then sat down and looked around. There was no one around, just him, the Zanpakuto in front of him, the cold breezeless night and the dead Shinigami around him. He remembered his sister and once again tears poured down his face. He didn’t sob or wail, he simply cried.
Perhaps an hour after this he noticed a Shinigami in front of him. Alive. The Shinigami ran up to him.
“Quick, tell me where the hollow is.”
“…………I killed him.”
The look of shock was evident in the man’s face as he turned to count the dead. He looked back at the small boy in front of him. He could definitely feel the Reiatsu eminating from the boy and an impressive amount for his age, but it was simply above average and not nearly enough to kill a Hollow. Definitely not enough to kill one that had taken out 13 Shinigami. But looking at the Zanpakuto on the ground it was the only explanation, and the boy definitely didn’t seem to be lying.
“You have great talent. Not many children could say they’d taken out a Hollow. Do you want to become a Shinigami?"
“If I do that, will I be able to bring my sister back?”
The Shinigami was shocked once again as he pieced together what took place. He answered slowly. “No. But you can stop this from happening again.”
Yami looked up at him with an incredibly sick feeling in his stomach. It wasn’t the Hollow he ate, but the feeling of losing his sister. No matter the person he figured no one should ever have to feel like the world was crushing them. Yami stood up slowly as a cold breeze blew through the street. He thought for a while before replying “Ok.”
The Academy
It was about 10 years later when he had learned how to control reiatsu that Yami took passed the entrance exam with flying colours on his first try, whatever those were. From that day Yami went through the rest of his life mindlessly, simply going through motions, while his heart was still mourning his sister. A few teachers called him somewhat of a prodigy, some other students, mostly of nobility looked on him with hate. A nobody living in the slums had made it look so easy. Although Yami was indifferent about the teachers remarks and the hate of his peers.
During his academy life he developed his analytical ability in order to take his mind off his sister. He turned this into a game where part way through class he would try to predict how certain people would react generally till the class ended. He made it more difficult by trying to guess what they would do in the next few seconds and he was slightly good at it. Although he would also have to somewhat pay attention to the teacher as it became annoying when they thought he wasn’t paying attention (as correct as they were most of the time).
Yami found it moderately easy to use kido and was able to learn spells with relative ease. Although in-between aiming, charging power and making sure it was strong enough to damage its target Yami was of the opinion that simply slicing the opponent with a sword required less thought, effort and was more practical. He did keep his proficiency in kido rather high though as he admits it is more versatile than using a sword.
Swordsmanship was Yami favourite lessons as he viewed it as the most straightforward. He broke it down to ‘place my sword where it will stop my opponents sword’ and ‘make things awkward for my opponent right before I kill them’. Although no killing took place.
Hoho however, whilst only his second favourite was where he excelled. His years of stealing items in Rukongai and fleeing without being caught had made him particularly good at Hoho which carried over to his Shunpo. He was considerably faster than his peers and bested only by his teachers. Although he made sure to slow himself down enough so that the other students would think ‘just a bit more and I’ll be better than him’ not for the sake of being nice but because he had too much attention focused on him between his strange eye and his lack of nobility.
Hand to hand combat was the area he was least proficient in. Although he broke it down the same way he did with sword fighting, living a life of robbing had done nothing to augment his physical strength. As opposed to blending in with the crowd however this made him stand out more as having a notable weakness or rather weaker area that others could take advantage of. Yami soon brought in his nimble footwork that had saved him in Rukongai and managed to bring his hand to hand combat up. Whilst still having lower physical strength he was very hard to hit and quickly his peers became disinterested allowing him to somewhat fade into the background overall achieving Yami’s goal.
Yami ended up being placed into the advanced class. Whilst originally Yami was glad as he would stop being a big fish in a small pond hopefully stopping all the attention he was getting, the exact opposite occurred. Although he was good (no longer top of the class but still above average), most of the class was of some nobility or another bringing attention to the different species of fish suddenly in their pond. Yami eventually figured that it wasn’t going to stop anytime soon and continued to ignore them as he had always done, but to a greater extent.
Going through the years at the academy Yami spent his time relatively by himself. Those with no noble blood to speak of saw him as their saviour, being the same as them but holding his own and due to this was unable to befriend them, as well as him finding this treatment a pain. Those of nobility who didn’t particularly care whether Yami was noble or not were able to get along rather well with him, however pressure from their relatives and Yami’s own lazy nature made it difficult to maintain friendship and so it was reduced to simply being on good terms.
Some often speculated that he was only lazy because he was tired from practising so much in order to keep up with the nobles, however Yami’s instructors knew better. They had noticed how little effort Yami used and in their own time all of them had told him in private how he could graduate well above his peers even he put in some effort. Yami would nod and seem to take this to heart whilst talking to them, however didn’t work any harder due to the effort it would take, the attention it would bring combined with how he didn’t care about become stronger or well known. He simply wanted to become strong enough to kill who he wanted to kill (namely hollows in Rukongai), sadly for him requiring a certain amount of strength.
The last year at the academy Yami found to be the most troublesome. As people scrambled around attempting to achieve the higher positions many turned Yami into their enemy. This made his life painful as they would obviously make a deal of it making it near impossible to ignore despite his efforts, he was glad however observing how they thought they were being totally ignored. The top student of the class, Hono Hiei, however was the most annoying. The others at least respected him, albeit a small amount, due to his skills. Hiei at the top however had none.
“What are you doing here outcast?” “Go back to the ditch you crawled out of.” Were basic insults that most days started with. As annoying as they were to hear day after day Yami paid no attention to them. He likened Hiei to a snake, it could dislocate its jaw to make its mouth rather large, but no matter how large it was a snake still crawled through the dirt. This image would occasionally put a smile partway through Hiei’s insults causing him to punch Yami in the face. As fast as they were Yami could’ve fought back, and probably held his own rather well. But every time he let Hiei punch him. This hurt the first few times but figured it was half decent training if a hollow ended up chucking him around like a doll. The best part of it was the Yami didn’t have to put any effort into it, Hiei did it all for him.
One day this escalated further than normal as Hiei punched him down in the hall. If I knew he’d be so angry over me besting his friends in that sparring earlier I would’ve let them win. He needs a new hobby.
“Even the air around you reeks of plebeian, go home and take that demonic eye with you. Oh I’m sorry, that would be assuming you had one and that you had a family, I’m sure they kicked you out otherwise they’d be real idiots. No, actually I’m really sorry, that would be assuming your family was worth something in the first place, I’m sure your family was simply scum.”
For the first time in his life Yami caught the next punch flying towards him. He was used to comments of his strange eye, he was used to insults of his status. But this was the first time someone had insulted his sister, and Hiei had just done it twice. Yami’s mind once again snapped, or rather the laziness and part of him wanting to stop things from being troublesome, of which had driven most of his recent life changed to an entirely different motive. ‘What’s the easiest way to make him scream?’ Yami mulled it over in his mind for a few seconds as Hiei watched Yami’s left eye grow darker. Hiei knew all about Hollows, Shinigami, Quincy and even strange humans. But he knew nothing of the thing in front of him. Nothing had noticeably changed about Yami but Hiei quickly found himself being filled with fear whilst starting to feel cold, and irrational fear was much harder to deal with. A faint psychopathic smile formed across Yami’s face as blood flowed down the side of his face, and he turned his back and walked away. Yami had his method. The thing that Hiei held onto the hardest was his top rank. And so he would let Hiei slowly watch him rise through the rankings until he would stand right next to him, and then continue moving upwards whilst Hiei would be powerless to stop him, and powerless to catch up. It was a method that in the long run would amount to nothing. But it isn’t about the destination. It’s the journey.
And so for the first time Yami worked. Occasionally Yami would sneak out in order to practise. The instructors were glad that it seems that their words had gotten to him. As incorrect as they were Yami made no effort to correct them. As Yami had never really worked hard this proved tiring for him and he sometimes fainted from exhaustion whilst outside prompting the option to give up. Yet when he thought of Hiei the pain in his muscles would dull and he’d get back to his training. His instructors had ordered him to stop training so much as it would ruin his body permanently. Yami treated these comments the same way he treated the others. Luckily for him he never did end up harming his body permanently.
Never having worked earlier in his studies the improvements quickly became noticeable. Subsequently the remarks quickly disappeared and punchings stopped as the few in higher rankings worked their best to keep their hard earned pedestals. But this was to no avail. Yami quickly soared upwards until he was second in the class. By this time Hiei had started to get worried. Yami smiled as his plan was bearing fruit. Yami noticed the small bags under Hiei’s eyes and the look of fear every time their gazes met. Yami quite easily found it the third best thing he had ever experienced.
And then came the sparring. As the two best in the class it was inevitable that they would eventually spar each other. Yami had always to an extent held himself back when sparring the others, even those stronger than himself, but Hiei wasn’t one of them. The match between them couldn’t be called a match, it was a one sided slaughter but not completely because of Yami's skills. As good as Yami was Hiei's moves were sluggish, a side effect of Hiei also staying up practicing to the point of exhaustion, but it had hurt him more than helped which had almost happened to Yami. As fast as Hiei seemed to the class Yami saw his movements being very slow because of this. With ease Yami moved side to side as Hiei would attempt to strike him. Yami made sure to make it seem as if he was almost hit, but only Hiei and the instructor were able to tell the Yami was in another league. A combination of effort, skill, overwork and luck put Yami in the lead. Yami could see the desperation in Hiei’s face as he continually tried to hit him. And finally Yami had decided that it was enough. A solid quick strike to the face, and Hiei didn’t get back up. He was conscious, but knew it was pointless to continue. Yami observed his face now obviously filled with despair. Now content Yami walked out of class, and no one followed him.
Gotei Thirteen
Yami ended up in the sixth division. He’d have chosen four, the death number, but he was hardly a healer. Some of the division members were glad to have a top class student in their division but they were quickly surprised by his lack of work ethic. Some were glad that he was more of a down to earth guy than a serious worker. Yami quickly faded into the background and the days where he was the top student were forgotten by all but a few. Yami was content with this with his life now seeming to achieved some level of peace. The easy going nature of the squad sat well with him and soon he became just another squad member. No longer working hard at a goal he had no rank and his skills no longer held their edge. If he had gone to the effort to show all of his skills he probably could’ve gotten a seat but neither working nor attaining a rank appealed to him and was content with no rank.
Compared to doing other odd jobs Yami preferred patrolling Rukongai for hollows to kill. Several years later when Yami had turned about 95 he had run across a group of three hollows. Rather than engaging in battle the hollows fled with great speed. Yami happened to be closer than the rest of his team and quickly gave chase much to the annoyance of the team. After finding himself in a clearing the hollows turned around and Yami found himself surrounded by Hollows.
“A trap.”
Yami was able to severely injure and kill a few hollows but was quickly outmatched. After taking a heavy hit a hollow grabbed him and pinned him against a tree. His zanpakuto loosely clutched in his hand Yami stopped struggling.
“Idiotically facing Hollows like this was sure to get me killed eventually.” Yami somewhat annoyed studied all his options and found he had none and so he released himself to his death. But then he heard a voice.
“You could beat them you know.”
Yami vision changed until suddenly found himself in a large cave. His attention was quickly drawn to a man sitting against a large rock near a cave wall. He had a large black cloak that flowed up and down, constantly moving. He seemed to be the same age as Yami and with the same type of hair. His eyes however were a dark shade of blue. His face was warm and despite seeming to be about the same age his face made him look a few years older. He had a strange smile filled with both a touch of arrogance and one with a strange warmth which for some reason instantly made Yami relax.
“So you’re my Zanpakuto?”
His Zanpakuto smile grew a tad larger.
“My name is Rai-O. But Rai is fine by me.”
Yami glanced around the cavern before looking back at Rai. Though he didn’t really care he asked anyway.
“I’m about to be beaten up and killed by Hollows, a tad dramatic to introduce yourself at the last moment, isn’t it?”
“Well I’ve been working away busily for quite a few years, and you didn’t need me so I figured you wouldn’t mind whilst I continue my work. Besides, even though you had the potential a lot earlier, learning your Shikai too quickly would bring back attention to the prodigy now wouldn’t it?”
Yami smiled back the first genuine smile he had made for years, not brought upon by screaming hollows or beating Hiei at his own game, but a warm smile.
“See you around, you who stands on top of the world.”
Rai had no insult in his words as he said them and Yami nodded slightly. He found himself once again pinned against the tree surrounded by hollow. His face now once again showed a psychotic smile as he raised his Zanpakuto with a new strength.
“Electrocute, Rai-O.
The hand pinning him against the tree disappeared as electricity enveloped his body, he quickly followed this with a slash as the hollow in front of him died. The other hollows gaining a new found wariness and kept their distance as Yami glanced at his new weapon.
The blade had turned a dark shade of purple with a blue electrical charge running up and down the blade. The hilt had shrunk and now only held enough room for him to hold it with one hand but otherwise remained unaltered. He glanced at his left hand, now wearing a thin, fingerless, black glove.
Turning back his attention to the hollows the aura of electricity disappeared as he raised his sword, and a lightning bolt came out of the tip. Without moving the sword he shot several lightning bolts at different hollows without moving his sword until only one hollow remained. He then used his Shunpo to quickly close the grab between them as he grabbed the hollow’s mask with his left hand.
“Wait, I’ll do anything. I’ll be your servant, please don’t kill me.”
Yami was amused by the thought of gaining a servant, but he didn’t need one. He sent a large amount of electricity into the hollows head. As the hollow screamed out in pain he quickly dissipated. Yami turned to go back to his division but then the injuries he took caught up to him and he fainted. Luckily Yami’s team had sensed the large discharge of reiatsu and proceeded to take him back for first aid.
As much as he tried to hide it the rest of the squad quickly found out about his Shikai. Some said that he’d be good in the Second Division with such speed and abilities but Yami quickly dismissed the idea as the Second Division sounded like too much work.
Both his abilities and his new Shikai once again bought him some popularity as some of Yami’s old classmates reminisced of their top graduator. Yami viewed himself as lucky getting neither a promotion to a seat once again attention died down quickly as a Shikai was nothing to get excited about.
After several more years Yami was able to settle in to a normal routine. He would trade other odd jobs for patrolling Rukongai for Hollows, although this was not always successful and he would occasionally have to clean up or such, much to his distaste.
One particular day when Yami was around 120, his body felt strange. It seemed to be coursing with a strange energy for one moment and then suddenly fade leaving him feeling weak. A sensation he had not felt since gaining his Shikai. After a few hours the sensation stabilised and things became normal. Yami shrugged this off but decided not to go patrolling that day. Later that night he was woken up by Rai.
“It’s uncharacteristic of you to call me, especially when I’m sleeping.”
“Trust me, It will be quite in character.”
Yami surrendered his body as his mind fell into his inner world. Once there he looked at Rai, still sitting on the same rock.
“Well, what couldn’t wait until morning?”
Rai grinned his usual smile.
“You know how I’ve told you I’ve been busy for several years? Well I’ve finished, and let me tell you it was a long road.
“And I’m supposed to be happy?”
Rai grinned his arrogant smile, as if knowing something completely hidden from him. Like giving a present, knowing exactly what it was, and watching Yami mull his head over what it could be. Yami then noticed something in the corner of his eyes. The normally empty cavern had another presence. He turned and saw a woman. Long black hair, and hollow like eyes. He looked at the face. It was his own except for the fact it belonged to a woman. She also had the same dragon pendant hanging from her neck, and apart from the face something seemed incredibly familiar about her.
“Yu…..ki?”
“Hello, Yami.”
He stared in shock as his sister returned a smile. He then turned back to Rai.
“She was eaten by a Hollow, and you ate that Hollow, and some of her reiatsu remained. Inside you her reiatsu resonated with yours, being twins and all. The hollow’s psyche was completely destroyed leaving only his power and Yuki’s psyche. It still wasn’t enough for her to emerge and brining her persona up to a conscious level is what I’ve been working on since the day she was eaten. Of course I wouldn’t have been able to if there was nothing to work with. So tell me, I’ve done a good job right?”
Yami could still only stare in shock as his mind digested the words. He then turned back to Yuki and ran towards her. He hugged her as silent tears once again poured down his face. Yuki returned the hug.
“I’m back home.”
Rai jumped off his rock and walked to the entrance of the cave. They had a lot to catch up on and Rai was happy to give them the time they deserved. Rai walked outside the cave showing it to be in the side of a tall mountain. Rai looked out onto the world. Meadows, forests, the ocean. It was all visible on this mountain and nothing around was nearly so close to being as high. As a gentle cool breeze blew on his face Rai smiled, this one not containing any slight arrogance, but a truly happy smile.
“It’s been years, since I’ve seen this good view. I hope you can continue to be this happy, king that stands on top of the world.”
The next day some of the sixth squad members were quite confused. Nothing had changed, Yami still seemed as he ever was. Still on good terms with most he didn’t have any real friends. He went about life the same way as he did, the same lazy ways and still went out and killed hollows. He still had his psychotic tendencies but they had diminished and the air around him seemed different. Before he was content, but now he had an air of slight happiness.

Name: Rai-O
Translation - Thunder King
Unreleased Appearance
The unreleased form is simply a katana. The scabbard is a dark purple colour, similar to his left eye. The handle is mostly black but with small bits of string wrapping around with the same colour purple. The guard is square and golden with the blade similar to all other Zanpakuto blades, although having a slightly longer length of 72 cm. Compared to other Zanpakuto of the same size it is lighter, having enough weight to be swung with some power behind it, but light enough to be swung rapidly with relative ease.

Zanpakutō Spirit
--------------------
Name: Rai-O (Generally called Rai)
Gender: Male
Spirit Appearance
He has a large black cloak that flows up and down, in constant movement due to his power. Seeming to be about the same age as Yami, although his personality and face makes him appear slightly older. He sports the same type of hair as Yami, straight black hair extending to just below his shoulders. His eyes are a dark shade of blue and those that look at his face generally get a feeling of warmth even if they don’t feel it. His facial expression in contrast generally sports a smile with a touch of arrogance. One looking at this would get a sense that he was always one or two steps of everyone else and that he knew exactly what they were thinking, although this was not always the case.
Personality
Just as his smile he himself is a tad arrogant, although it is minimal and generally hidden otherwise. Like Yami, Rai is an analyser although to a greater extent. He cannot read Yami’s mind but he generally has a pretty clear idea of what is going through it. Whilst analytical he is much more straightforward than Yami is and often thinks that even when you can predict something you’ll generally still have to break it down to the same basic principles. So why bother making it complex? He is much more of a hard worker than Yami, although he respects his lazy attitude. If two different things lead to the same destination he would take the easier road. Although he would sometimes take the harder road aware that working hard has its own merits.
Relationship to Master
He both loves and respects Yami. Despite knowledge of how much more powerful he is and often to the distaste of Yami he calls him the ruler of the world, but this does not stop him from being a true friend on an equal level. He often advises Yami, iterating implications and different decisions that in his opinion are better to take, however he will only mention these once and respects Yami’s final decision no matter what it is, even if it is the worst decision. He generally doesn’t make Yami work for techniques, or mastery over his Shikai and generally teaches him when he needs the power. Although Yami is reluctant to ask him even as a last resort. Were he to ask Rai would happily teach him everything he could learn at his strength but is also fine with waiting until Yami needs it.
Inner World
Yami’s inner world is a large cavern. On one side there is a large lake with the rest of it expanding out to the size of several football fields. The height of the roof is unknown but is extremely high. Despite being indoors it is always well lit as if in nice sunlight, but doesn’t heat up the way sunlight would cause it to. Outside the cave shows a mountainside with a good view of surrounding meadows, forests with the ocean being visible as well. This view is only visible when Yami is generally happy (not the happiness coming from his sadistic side) and otherwise the view is shrouded by a thick black mist.

Inner Hollow
--------------------
Name: Ryuu, Yuki
Gender: Female
Appearance
Similar to Yami, Yuki has straight, black hair. It is longer and almost reaches her waist. Being a twin she has the same face as Yami, although now a bit older it is noticeable that some features of her face are more feminine despite obviously having the same overall face as Yami. She wears a Shinigami uniform with the same modifications as Yami also having Rai-O hanging at her side. She has breasts that are neither large nor small. Her eyes are now Hollow like, having black pupils with yellow irises.
Personality
Much like when alive she still like snow. She enjoys peaceful atmospheres in nature and much like Yami is content to lie down and do nothing for large periods of time. Although as she now holds Hollow powers she is quite barbaric and takes pleasure in the sight of blood. She enjoys fighting but has enough wits about her to know when not to fight. Except for Yami, she in general hates all other people, hollows, etc. but surprisingly gets along well with Rai.
Relationship to Master
She loves her twin brother and is more than happy to help him out in need. Contrasting to other Vizards which had to subdue and control their hollow side Yuki freely gave Yami full reign of these powers. She still has a strong relationship with her brother and they will often enjoy each other’s company for extended periods of time in Yami’s inner world. During battle Yuki occasionally takes over his body in order to protect Yami from danger. This is done with his consent and control is always given back to Yami.

Mask Appearance and Summoning
Yami’s mask is summoned either by holding his left hand just above his face or the right of his face. As he pulls his hand down or to the left respectively, he bends his fingers and thumb inwards as if clawing off his face. He pulls his hand across his face as if dragging his mask onto his face. Black Reiatsu gathers around his face from the direction he is ‘pulling’ from. After he has finished the Reiatsu condenses to cover only his face and then forms his mask. His mask is white save for two dark blue lines that jaggedly, much like lightning goes from the top of his face, through the eye slots, down to the bottom. Whilst wearing the mask Yami’s right eye becomes Hollow like, similar to his sister, but his left eye will remain its dark purple. Despite Yuki giving free reign of her hollow powers, Yami’s reiatsu only has the ability to maintain the mask for 30 seconds. Occasionally Yuki will take control of Yami’s body during battle. This is a more barbaric fighting nature and often surprises enemies enough to turn the tide of battle. However whilst in battle she can only hold control for as long as the hollow mask has left and if the hollow mask breaks will be forced to give control back to Yami.
Hollow Abilities
Corrupt Lightning-Passive
- Description of Attack - Whilst wearing his hollow mask any and all electricity generated will become black. Yami also gathers the electric energy in the air he has already discharged as well as his reiatsu making his skills slightly more powerful and efficient.
- Limitation - The limitations of Yami’s lightning attacks remain and this skill will in no way nullify any other limitations that other skills posses, thus all skills this affects continue to have the same weaknesses. By absorbing the electricity he has already emitted as well as his already emitted reiatsu, Yami’s electric abilities become 20% stronger, or become 20% more efficient (or a mixture of the two where the values add up to 20, example 5% stronger and 15% more efficient) although the default state is more efficient.
Black Lightning Cero
- Description of Attack - Gathering a large amount of surrounding electricity and Yami’s reiatsu he fires a black cero from either his mouth or his hand that charges slightly faster then an ordinary Cero. It also moves slightly faster than an ordinary Cero. It is about 30 to 45 cm in diameter and can go a distance of about 30 metres.
- Limitation - This skill drains about 15-20% of Yami’s Reiatsu. Despite gathering already emitted lightning it will not affect the opponents body in any way (except for damage) and does not become stronger or more efficient from Corrupt Lightning. If the opponent is wary of the attack and attempts to dodge they should be able to with relative ease if at a distance, even at lower tiers.
A highly charged Reitsu attack or Reitsu charged object from someone two tiers lower will lessen the energy to 70-90% of its maximum, one tier lower 60-80%, same tier anywhere from 40-75% of the maximum, one tier higher 0-45%, two tiers higher 0-25% of its maximum. Higher tiers can also gather Reitsu in their hand for deflection and lessen the Cero damage from either 0-50% of its maximum energy or 0-30%.
Yuki’s Battle Style/Arc Lightning Application
- Description of Attack - Rather than shooting lightning out from the tip of Rai-O to an opponent Yuki will extend lightning from the handle backwards and grab onto it. With this she can swing the sword around, controlling the lightning allowing her to move it quickly and with high accuracy. Extending or contracting the lightning she can control how far away the sword is with its full reach being how far Arc Lightning can go.
The Arc Lightning can be moved around to block incoming Reitsu attacks and somewhat wrapped around an opponent if the opportunity arises. Once the electrically charged sword or part of the lightning touches a living enemy the lightning will rapidly move into the said being which will bring Yuki/Yami into close range combat with the opponent whilst harming them at the same time (inanimate objects will not cause the contracting effect unless they hold a living soul {not a zanpakuto, unless directly held by a living being}, i.e if someone living turns themselves temporarily into a wall and the sword touches the wall the effect still occurs [If turning oneself into a wall is even possible])- Limitation - This technique generally take 10-15% of Yami’s reiatsu and as such can generally only be used about 10 times, without using any other techniques. This number can easily be halved in battle. The lightning is not as fast as actual lightning and gives the possibility of dodging, although still rather fast making dodging difficult. The path of this technique can be easily controlled however the more jagged/swerving the path is the weaker the technique becomes, whilst draining the same amount of reiatsu.
When facing those of two tiers lower they will generally take 85-100% of the damage, one tier lower 70-100%, same tier 50-75%, one tier higher 30% and those of two tiers higher receive about 10%. When a large amount of redirecting the lightning is necessary the damage values can lower up to a slightly more than half of the original damage values before dissipating. This causes the damage values to normally end up at 42-50%, 35-50%, 25-37%, 15% and 5% for lower to higher tiers respectively. Another limitation is how the technique requires a direct line of sight. If the lightning goes around a corner and Yami can no longer see the end of the lightning, it will dissipate, whilst still draining his reiatsu (if however there is a mirror placed so he can look around the corner the lightning will remain [though chances of a reflective surface being around are considered unlikely]).
The rapid pull in of lightning as it touches an opponent isn’t always an advantage. It is not an optional choice and will immediately occur once touching an opponent. Added to this the rapid pull in somewhat makes Yami/Yuki’s right arm sore (or left arm if holding with left). Whilst this pain can be ignored whilst wearing the hollow mask as soon as it is removed/destroyed this pain will become noticeable although the said pain is slightly less than pain from a decent slash.

Zanpakutō Shikai
--------------------
Call Out Phrase: Electrocute
Shikai Appearance
The scabbard disappears as the sword is released. The blade length remains as before. The blade changes colour to a dark purple and a small blue spark of electricity runs up and down the blade. The handle becomes shorter now only holding enough room for one hand to hold, making the blade slightly lighter and faster to swing. On his left hand (although moveable to right hand if needed within three seconds) is a black fingerless glove. It is extremely thin and practically weighs nothing giving no defensive properties.

Arc Lightning
- Description of Attack - By condensing Yami’s reiatsu Yami fires lightning from either the tip of his blade or from the palm of his gloved hand. The lightning in size has only a diameter of around 3-5 cm. When the lightning hits the opponent it slightly messes with their central nervous system amplifying the pain slightly for a few seconds. Those of 1 and 2 tiers above ignore this effect. Arc Lightning can be mixed with any lightning based kido. The power of both techniques are combined and maintain the same overall reiatsu cost.
- Type - Offensive
- Range - 15 meters, but can be extended 5 meters once if bounced off a reflective surface.
- Limitation - This technique generally take 10-15% of Yami’s reiatsu and as such can generally only be used about 10 times, without using any other techniques.
Bolt Blade
- Description of Attack - Yami’s Zanpakuto gathers his reiatsu and turns it into lightning wrapped around his blade. This allows him to easily cut through most physical objects and ranged reiatsu attacks. This also allows him to cut through rocks, metal, kido and ceros/balas.
- Type - Offensive
- Range - Point Blank/Where the Zanpakuto is.
- Limitation - This technique whilst allowing him to cut other objects easily will however have difficulty cutting through physical objects with a large amount of reiatsu contained within. It is near impossible to cut through another Zanpakuto. An arrancar’s hierro whilst still difficult to cut easily, but will be easier cut with Bolt Blade. Yami must be holding his Zanpakuto to use Bolt Blade and it will turn off if he throws the Zanpakuto. If he throws it and connects to himself using Arc Lightning he can use Bolt Blade, but will have to use up the Reiatsu for both techniques simultaneously.
Bolt Blade by itself can only be held for a full minute, meaning it drains 50% for 30 seconds, meaning it drains about 5% of his reiatsu every 3 seconds. Although he can cut through kido/ceros/balas, when attempting to cut a technique coming from the same tier that requires 10% or more of their reiatsu the split technique has a 50% chance that it will not divert path enough to miss and will still hit Yami for 5% less damage than it would if hitting him directly. The same will occur for reiatsu techniques from a higher tier (without the 50% chance), if the technique uses 7 or more % of their reiatsu The same will occur for reiatsu techniques that require 4 or more % of reiatsu for two tiers higher.

Yami sighed as the hot wind blew in his face as he looked around at the unfamiliar district. That’s what he got for being absent minded. He could ask for directions, but that would be a bother. His nose upturned at the abnormal smell. Something about this district smelled of rotten eggs. He tried to hold his breath and continued walking. A tad later he noticed two boys looking around 12 following him from a distance.
“You ask him.”
“No, you ask him.”
Yami sensed something that required work arriving and slightly increased the length of his stride. The two boys ran in front of him.
“Please sir, could you help us? We-”
“No.”
“But we haven’t even told you what we-“
“No.”
“But could you just-“
Yami used his shunpo and moved away before hearing another word. He quickly moved away until finding a less inhabited area that smelled slightly better, or he’d gotten used to the smell. Upon looking at his surroundings he once again sighed. “Great, now I’m more lost.”
He wandered around the district. Upon turning a corner he bumped into a muscular and bald looking man with two identical black haired men at both his sides.
“Hey do you know who you’re dealing with? This is Knifer Jack, strongest man in this district.”
Great wannabe punks. “My greatest apologies, here’s some money to make up for it.”
Yami put some money in the mans hand and continued on his road.
“Did you see that shinigami? Even they respect my authority. Taking over Rukon isn’t just a dream.”
“Wasn’t that sarcasm in his voice?”
“Shut it, he gave me money so he obviously is scared of my awesomeness.”
Leaving the scene Yami wandered around for hours, every time he’d seem to get somewhere he’d blank out and end up lost again. A bit before midday Yami happened to come across some familiar people. The punks from earlier were gathering around the boys wanting him to do something earlier.
“Remember never to steal from me again.”
The bald man was standing over the boys who were now bleeding greatly. The boys were standing in front of group of five, seven year old looking children. One of the bodyguard looking persons was holding a large barrel with the word ‘water’ printed on the front. Yami’s mind went over several possible scenarios in his mind but most of them ended up being the same.
“Ah, shinigami. Don’t mind this, it’s what happens to people the cross paths with m-“
Yami gave the bald man a quick jab and he fell to the ground knocked out. He turned his gaze to the man holding the water.
“I er, don’t have anything against you. Here take this.”
The man let go of the water and both remaining men ran leaving the bald man behind.
It’s not stealing if I already paid him earlier.
“Thanks, you saved us.”
Yami turned his head to the boys whilst picking up the barrel.
“This isn’t charity or me being nice. I’ll give you this water, if you can point me the way back to Seireitei.”
