With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.

Beck Kasahara walked down one of the many pathways of the Sereitei, not really in a hurry to be anywhere. It was apparent that he had just been released from medical care as much of his body was still covered in bandages. As agreed upon, Beck also graduated from the Spiritual Arts Academy as a fourth year student. This was recognizable as he now wore the standard Shinigami uniform, the exception being his sleeveless kosode and lack of socks (because he's hardcore). He continued down the path, rounding the large wall that would soon lead to the Squad 11 barracks.
He wasn’t nervous at all; the thought of being rejected wasn't even a valid thought. In his mind, he was doing Squad 11 a favor. How could they not want someone as talented and strong as the Beck Kasahara?! The building was now in sight. He calmly walked into the barracks, taking a brief moment to study the Squad 11 members who were hanging around, drinking and yelling and cursing and what have you. Beck fit right in. Without bothering to maybe look for a sign or at least use a quieter way of asking, the rookie quickly made his presence known.
“So, who the hell do I talk to so I can join you group of losers?” he yelled boldly, a cocky grin plastered on his face.

“So, who the hell do I talk to so I can join you group of losers?”
There was a murmur that brushed through the members that were hanging about, some getting angry at the brat for showing them such disrespect.
"Oi, who is this brat?!" One of them sneered, baring his teeth. "The hell is a kid doing here?"
"Man this guy needs to learn his place!"
"The hell does this guy think he is?"
"Somebody teach this guy some manners!"
Just then, a couple doors loudly slid open. The infamous captain of the 11th gazed from one end of the room to his other, his jaw set it a thin line.
"Why the hell is everyone bein' so loud?" He growled, looking among the crowd.
His reiastu flared rather lightly, causing some of the people around him to back up involuntarily, they began to sweat and have trouble breathing.
"I'll ask again! Why the--..." He started, but he was cut off by a shinigami that stepped up.
"Taichou! It was him!" the lowly shinigami shakily said and pointed over at the boy. "He was causing trouble!"
"Oh?" Kenpachi raised an eyebrow, his reiastu dying down as his gaze fell on the form of the young boy. He didn't recognize him, but somehow, the boy had managed to get into the barracks.
"Who the hell are you?" The tall captain growled, his tall figure looming over the younger shinigami.

Beck’s grin only widened at the reaction from the squad members. His left hand lowered down slowly and rested on the top of his zanpakuto. He would gladly fight all of them if they were so inclined. Before the conflict can continue on, Captain Kenpachi Zaraki appeared. Beck felt the intimidating man’s reitsu and tried his hardest to hide to wince in reaction to the impressive power. He surprisingly kept silent as Captain Zaraki berated his underlings. Finally, the captain directed his attention toward Beck.
"Who the hell are you?"
Beck showed only arrogance in his face as the captain loomed over him. “The name’s Beck…” he said smugly, not even offering his last name. “…And I am guessing by the pretty coat that you’re Captain Kenpachi Zaraki?”
He knew he was pushing his luck with a man as dangerous as Zaraki, but he loved it nonetheless, listening to the low whispers of the squad members around him and a few chuckles; they knew this kid might end up dead. Beck obviously knew who the Captain was the moment he set eyes on him and felt even the slight flare of reitsu.
“So, am I vice-captain or what? I figured I’d be captain the second I walked in here, but I see you’ve got that covered…” said the rookie with boundless arrogance.

“So, am I vice-captain or what? I figured I’d be captain the second I walked in here, but I see you’ve got that covered…”
He blinked, once or twice... Slowly but surely a smile split across his face and he started to laugh. He laughed so hard that it was starting to scare the trainees around them.
The braver of the trainees began to laugh alongside him, nervously at first but overtime it grew. Laughter began to fill the room and eventually everyone started laughing.
Once it died down, the infamous captain cocked his head to the side. "That was a good joke, kid."
"... You weren't jokin', were you." His smile slowly faded from his face as he studied the raw recruit. "Well, I'll give ya one thing... you got spunk."
On that note, he flaired his reiastu. It wasn't much, but it was enough to raise the heat in the room and make the air crackle before everyone's eyes. It was also definetly enough to knock the kid on his ass.
"You think you even got what it takes to be in the 11th?" Kenpachi chuckled, shaking his head in amusement and letting his reiastu die down. "What're you gonna do to prove to me that you're strong enough?"

Beck was slightly taken aback by the Captain’s frightening laughter but as with most things, did not let it show. However, his face would begin to twist from a cocky grin to a sour sneer as the laughter grew and spread to the whole room. Beck was not amused.
"... You weren't jokin', were you."
The young Shinigami was about to respond with another smart-ass remark, but was cut short, suddenly being knocked backward onto the floor by Kenpachi's reiatsu. A few snickers could be heard around the room as Beck made his way to his feet, embarrassed that he had been overcome so easily. “Take it easy, would you? Can’t you see I’m still wounded? Damn,” he said as he rubbed his sore backside
"What're you gonna do to prove to me that you're strong enough?"
Beck took a moment to think, but his mouth was already ahead of his brain. “I’ve never been much for proving myself. And really, I bet I am stronger than every one of these meatheads,” he said, his head sweeping across the room, indicating the division members who filled the barracks.
“I doubt they did anything more impressive than me standing here to prove themselves to you, look at them!” The murmur started once again in the room amongst the Shinigami. This brat had insulted them a second time!
“Besides, don’t you know about me? I graduated from the academy two years early, not to mention I’ve already obtained my Shikai,” he said, an air of false entitlement surrounding the demanding greenhorn. “If that’s not impressive, I don’t know what is.”

“Besides, don’t you know about me? I graduated from the academy two years early, not to mention I’ve already obtained my Shikai. If that’s not impressive, I don’t know what is.”
"No, I don't know about you." Kenpachi deadpanned. "On top of that, I don't give a shit about your records."
He chuckled and ran a hand through his hair, the bells on the tip of his hair rustling and ringing softly. He sighed loudly and raised an eyebrow at the kid.
"Tell ya what, tough guy." A smiled etched his way across his feature. "Unleash your Zanpakuto."
After he has said that, he spread the hem of his haori so that more of his chest was showing.
"Now, I want you to hit me with everythin' you got." Kenpachi said, not making a move to even look or draw his sword.
A vicious smile broke across the man's face and he leaked a bit of reiastu, causing the air to shake about him. There was a crackling noise again, and the worried murmurs of members started to fill the room.
"What's wrong tough guy? Scared?" He chuckled, a wide smile still etched upon his features.

"Unleash your Zanpakuto."
Damn. This was the exact response Beck was dreading. He knew it was nobody’s fault but his own. Captain Zaraki had called his bluff. It wasn’t that he hadn’t obtained his Shikai, he was just having… difficulties releasing it. He had barely talked to Yakushin since he learned its name, much less released it. Beck could only imagine the response from Yakushin would be a blunt “no.” at this point. However, he wouldn’t hesitate too long, attempting to cover up this embarrassing fact.
"What's wrong tough guy? Scared?"
“Look, I don’t make a habit of using my Shikai, not my style. And besides am I even allowed to release it here? I know you get your rocks off getting hit but… we can do this some other way. I wouldn’t want to… hurt you,” he said, doing his best to sound sincere the whole way through. Beck just wanted to dance around the subject of his Shikai and not pry any deeper into it.

"Hurt me... Hurt me?!" The large captain broke out laughing again at the boy before him. "You really think you're that tough don'tcha?"
"Me." He scoffed, looking sidewardly at him. "I don't think you'd even bruise me kid. If you ain't about to unleash yer Zanpakuto, then there's no need for ya to be here."
Kenpachi wondered if his words would have the effect that it he hoped it would take. The kid had an ego, that much was obvious. He wouldn't be shown up and he wouldn't be rejected. The kid reminded him of someone... who? He couldn't quite place it but the familiarity was there. Anyways if Kenpachi was right the kid would probably blow after a couple more prods.
"Yer weak, y'know that?" Kenpachi chuckled, cracking his neck from side to side. "I don't even think ya got what it takes to make it in the 11th."
With that, the tall captain turned around and began to walk back to his office.

It was obvious the Captain was not going to budge on this issue as he scoffed at what he thought was Beck’s attempt at humor.
“If you ain't about to unleash yer Zanpakuto, then there's no need for ya to be here.”
Beck was running out of options fast and he would once again attempt to talk his way out of unleashing his zanpakuto.
“Now just hold on a second… I mean look I just got out of the hospital and--” The Captain would have none of it, cutting Beck’s excuses off mid-sentence.
"Yer weak, y'know that? I don't even think ya got what it takes to make it in the 11th."
With that, the Captain turned his back and walked away from the young upstart and with him, Beck’s chances of becoming a part of Squad 11 were fading faster and faster. He needed to do something fast. When it really came down to it, Squad 11 may have been the only division that would accept a rookie like him. Beck knew he could fight; he could throw a punch and take a punch. But for other squads, this may not be enough. The realization that maybe he needed Squad 11 more than they needed him began to slowly creep into his mind. He would have none of that. “Dammit, wait!” shouted Beck at the back of the Captain. “I’ll unleash my Shikai.” With that, he closed his eyes to concentrate.
You heard me. I’m unleashing my Shikai.
Yakushin quickly snapped back. “Oh yeah? What if I don't feel like it?”
Look, I’m in a tight spot… I… need your help.
Yakushin let out a long yawn. “So, the great Beck needs the help of his lowly zanpakuto. I’m not worthy, master!” The spirit broke into laughter soon after. Beck was silent.
“Say please. And call me sensei!”
What?
“You heard me.”
Beck hesitated more a moment. He needed to prove himself nonetheless.
Yakushin…-sensei, I need… your help… please.
Beck had obviously had to struggle to form and forced out every word.
Yakushin was delighted in Beck’s display, laughing and clapping his hands with glee. After getting over his fit of laughter, he spoke. “Alright, do what you wish, I have been amused."Beck said nothing, his pride obviously hurt. This better impress Zaraki.
The rookie's eyes snapped open. He got down to business fast, unsheathing his Zanpakuto and holding it outward in front of him.
“Devastate, Yakushin!”
With that, Beck’s own reitsu flared up. It was nothing compared to the Captain’s, but it was enough to cause many of the Squad 11 members who were in the proximity to quickly back step. A bright glow of spiritual energy overtook the sword, and soon a brilliant flash enveloped his whole body. When the light subsided, his right arm was incased with the familiar armor that comprised his Shikai. A few of the Squad 11 members were impressed with the display as the streams of spiritual energy emanating from the arm began to subside.
“Alright then… I mean… I can’t exactly attack with all I’ve got. You see, I’ve got three shots here…” Beck said, pointing to the three curved fins protruding from his right shoulder. “…And… well, never mind, it’s really too much to explain,” Beck said, obviously not wanting to take the time to explain his Sheru-tama attack.
As he felt the reiastu burst from behind him, the large captain smirked, albeit a small one, but it was there. He; however, did not turn around as the man completed his Shikai transformation.
“Alright then… I mean… I can’t exactly attack with all I’ve got. You see, I’ve got three shots here… And… well, never mind, it’s really too much to explain."
He looked over his shoulder, his smile having evaporated. "What's that? Well, that's too bad then. You must really be too afraid teh' fight."
He shrugged his shoulders and sighed. "If ya don't throw everythin' at me before I make to my office, I'll trust you can find the door."
Without another word, he strode forward without looking back. At this point, it was do or die for the kid. It was pretty easy to tell that Kenpachi was not a man to be messed around with.
If this kid wanted in, he was going to have to really let loose.
