The dragon-like crane lowered from the sky and its iron claws grip a heavy boulder. Steam pours from the yellow monster as it heaves the heavy boulder into the air and towards another location. Loud cranking sounds echoed through the construction site as the heavy metal machines trucked around large mterials.
Commands were being barked out by the hard-hat wearers on the ground and those in control of the massive beasts of steel obeyed every word. Joe was one of these Humans who took command from those on the ground. Wearing a pair of orange supenders that his white t-shirt is tucked into, he pulls down on levers and cranks up knotches, sending his thoughts and movements into the monster in which he mounted.
"Joe, pull up closer to the let wing!"
"Gotcha, on my way." Joe pushes up a handle and the metal monster powers forward, the coal black sphere of dense iron swaying from the steel chain it was attached to. As he powers his machine forward, somebody runs in the path of the object of destruction, startling him into stopping. He leans his head out through one of the open sides and spies another person wearing a hardhat. "Ruban!"
"Hi Joe!" Ruban waves to his cousin before picking up the coiled sheet of steel that got away from him. "Sorry, this thing's slippery!"
"Ruban, get out of the way! Aren't you supposed to be repairing one of the trucks?" A supervisor questions harshly.
"Y-yes sir, sorry!" Ruban then scurries off with the steel sheet and the supervisor gives a eavy sigh.
"Why do we even keep him around...?"
"Because he's good at what he does, sir."
"I guess. Hey, Joe! You in position?"
Joe doesn't answer his supervisor. His eyes were locked on to something that was crawling along one of the abandoned buildings he was scheduled to demolish. He squints to get a better visual on the thing, and then he gasps when he realizes what it is.
"Hey, Joe! Can you hear me?"
It was a Hollow, most rcognizable by the freakishly terrifying-looking bone mask on its face. The Hollow turnsto face the area it overlooked, and its eyes locked on one of the workers walking along the ground. A hungry smile forms across its bone mask and its pink tongue slithers out like a serpent. "It's going to attack him!" Joe pulls a lever and twists a joystick. The top of the truck sways back, and then forward as it spins, sending the orb of heavy metal roaring through the air.
"Joe!" The supervisor shouts as he notices the sudden movement, but his cry falls upon deaf ears when the wrecking ball collides with the side of the building, knocking the Hollow through the wall and inside the desolate structure. "What the hell are you doing?"
Joe sighs in relief, falsly believing he had slain the creature. He then blinks as he hears the yell of his supervisor and co-workers, then snaps back into reality. They couldn't see spirts, so they wouldn't understand him if he said he just saved their lives. "Oh, sorry about that. I got distracted, t won't happen again." He gives a nervous smile and rubs the back of his brown hair, hoping desperately that the suervisor buys his explanation.
"That building's not scheuled to go down for another hour! Don't get distracted again, okay!"
"Y-yes sir! Won't happen again!" He sighs in relief and then drops his head; dodged a bullet there. Or did he...?
The Hollow shakes off the concrete dust and rubble, then stands back up. Dazed by the unprovoked attack, it stumbles towards the gaping hole in the building, then, while still disoriented, trips on the smashed remnants of the wall and tumbles out of the building, roaring as it falls.
Joe's eyes widen in terror as the roaring mass of black thuds to the ground in a cloud of smoke. Those working in the area jump from the sudden impant and look to see what the cause was, but all they see is the settling dust. "What the hell was that?"
"It's probably just a piece of wall falling, guys. Clear that area for now, we'll get back to it later." The supervisor says, allowing Joe to breath another sigh of relief.
"Please, please, pleeease let that thing be dead." He begs quietly to himself as he watches his co-workers clear the area, but to his dismay, a finger on the large Hollow twitches back to life. "No... no... no... shit!"
Th Hollow places a wobbly hand on the ground and rises up from the dust, then gives out a heavy roar that goes unheard by the humans unable to feel its ghostly presence; however, perhaps some wandering Shinigami in the area did in fact hear the roar.
