General Information
--------------------
Name: Maki Izayoi
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance
Maki looks like a fair young girl in her upper teens with shoulder length black hair and blue eyes, and a pale complexion. Average height for a girl her age, she is lean and tone, with a graceful, feminine runner's physique. Usually she is seen in her school uniform or just a simple tee-shirt and cute skirt type of style of dress.
But, when out and about hunting down Hollows for their explicit elimination, she is often dressed in a sort of black tunic with a large crucifix on the front, black military fatigues with heavy brown leather boots; and around her slender waist is a belt with five holstered Seele Schneider. Regardless of how she is dressed always does she have a her Quincy Cross worn on her person, dangling off of a leather string wrapped up around her right wrist. She has a tattoo of a blue serpentine dragon spiraling down her right arm from her shoulder to her forearm.
Personality
The girl always seems to manage to hold a confident gaze in her eyes, and often exudes it in her very presence. When walking down a street, each stride seems to hold a purpose with its steps. Even when she is uncertain about something, she appears as though she is quickly attempting to ascertain what the next course should be, rather than linger in indecisiveness or seem overwhelmed. In fact, she often is overwhelmed deep inside, with the Quincy on the verge of extinction and so few around to carry out the duties of the Quincy, she feels daunted by the burden and task of it. However, in contrast and contradiction that is also the source of her confidence she constantly seeks to maintain, as she does not want the Quincy to appear weak as they look as though they are nearing the end, and she being a representative of their ancient legacy. In summary, overwhelmed but not defeated, Maki pushes herself to remain steadfast and strong to carry out her task as being one of the handful of remaining Quincy.
Fun facts: She loves strawberries and cherries, as exclaimed by her tattoo she loves dragons (and sleeps with a baby dragon stuffed animal (which she has owned since she was a little girl)), the only milk she will drink is soy, loves long hot spring baths, hates the word 'indeed' with a passion, speaks German fluently, and secretly has encyclopedic knowledge of varying erotic Manga series genres.
History
Regardless of her legacy, one of the most impressive things is how seemingly ordinary her life appears to be. Her mother, Aina, a german homemaker, and her father, Jubei, a Japanese hardware engineer with a love for robots, live a very simple lifestyle. Her parents both love and care for their daughter raising her to be a productive member of society, and helping her with her day to day life as seventeen year old girl of the modern era.
Her father met her mother while he was on an extended business trip into Germany. One could call it a love at first sight sort of deal, the two became inseparable - when Aina moved to Japan to live with Jubei, they married and not long afterward Maki was born. After Maki they did have another child, a little boy named Eiji, whom Maki often doted on while growing. Their age only being separated by a few years.
Truly, if one were to see their household, it would appear merely as a wasternized Japanese household of the modern era. Jubei, a humble engineer who works on the robots he loves within his company, often ranting and raving and exclaiming his pride in his work. Aina, a loving wife and mother of two, whom of her own accord chose the simple life as a homemaker to care for her family and two children. Eiji, a typical preteen boy, loving video games and soccer, even plays on the team for his junior high school where he is an average student. Lastly, but certainly not least, Maki, by all appearances a young girl in her upper teens attending her last year of high school, where she is an above average student, participates in no clubs or after-school activities, she does have her own circle of friends there whom she likes to spend time with, but little else.
However, her father does have a very long and ancient legacy, which is that of the Quincy. Both of his parents, Aiya and Shinada, were Quincy who worked as partners. Jubei never took an interest in pursuing what entailed his legacy, learning the Quincy's duties, beliefs, training, or varying abilities. Shinada having past away before Jubei's marrying Aina (whom Aiya welcomed with open arms into the Izayoi family), which for some time left Aiya in fear of their family losing their ancient legacy. It was shortly after Eiji was born that the topic was brought up by Aiya if one of the two children or even both would learn to be Quincy themselves. Jubei was against the idea, he never could agree or understand his ancestors or his parents idealism. It was Aina though who believed at least one of the children should inherit and carry on the family legacy. Aiya uncertain how many years she had left in her, decided to train and teach Maki to become a Quincy, so the tutelage could become immediate. Aina convinced Jubei to concede, and so the training begun from then onward.
In the beginning the girl disliked the training, it was hard - difficult, and she was so young - barely over five years old. The lessons were trying and strenuous, even terrifying for a young child. Though it was Aina who surprisingly helped Maki build up the strength and courage she needed, coaxing some confidence into her daughter. While Aina had no part of the Quincy herself, she did understand completely that it was an old and ancient legacy of her husband's family line, and something immensely important to Aiya not wanting it to die in their family line with she as the last; and Aina knowing her own children well, she knew Maki could carry on that legacy so long as she was encouraged and instilled with confidence.
Aina's coaxing some moxie into her daughter worked, as Maki's training progressed under the tutelage of Aiya, Maki begun to build up an inner-strength to endure through the trials ahead of her. Aiya, though, remained thoughtful of her granddaughter, progressing Maki's training only as it fit her motivation to actually accomplish it. Forcing Maki into it any more than she had been would only prove to dull her abilities, and suffer for it later when her skills would be called upon in a true test as a Quincy in battle. However, Maki as she got older took to the training more and more, desiring to learn more of her grandmother had to teach her about the Quincy, their history, culture... anything and everything her grandmother could teach and guide her in.
As Maki got older, Aiya viewed her as an inspiring student, always eager to learn and quite advanced in certain areas of her training, especially her marksmanship with her Quincy bow. Though like anyone, while quite talented in some fields, others she is some lacking - no one is the perfect student. Aiya sharpened Maki's skills to be not unlike herself in her younger days, to be adroit and nimble with a vicious precision shot, and in some occasions during her training - such as learning to manipulate reiryoku - Aiya could swear she saw herself decades ago in Maki. More so as she trains the girl in karate where Maki unwittingly mimics much of her grandmother's own style from when she was Maki's age; even the method of marksmanship Aiya teaches Maki in, being a blend of Quincy reiryoku manipulation and kyudo near identical to one another. Seeing and realizing always seemed to bring comfort and hope to Aiya, as it is a sign the legacy of the Quincy will not die in her family - Maki will care it on, and hopefully one day - pass the legacy to her children and they theirs and so on.
But, despite all of this, as mentioned from the beginning, Maki herself is truly just an ordinary girl, her lineage of the Quincy and her being one aside. Viewing her attending school to be a reprieve from what she truly is, it is the chance for anonymity and simplicity, rather than facing the struggle and death she does after school training and fighting as one of the two remaining Quincy of her family, amongst the Quincy at large who are dying off as time progresses.
The moments of being able to speak with her mother, arguments and conversations of life in general are cherished moments all the same. Listening to her father speak gloriously about the latest robots he is creating at work, and his obsessive tinkering with them at home, prove to be nothing more than endearing moments to watch. Then her little brother, for whom she fights for in his stead, watching him be a typical preteen kid playing soccer, going to school, playing with his friends, even playing mind-numbing amounts of video games, simply watching him live - proves nothing more to be a symbol of what she is training and risking her very life for in battle. All of these moments, are examples of what needs to be protected in the greater humanity of which she finds and believes herself to be responsible in protecting like any Quincy does. An overwhelming burden, but though daunting - it is also a great strength.

Origin of Powers
Maki comes from a long line of Quincy, though that line is nearly spent, in fact, once her grandmother passes on, Maki will be the very last of the line within her family. Maki's grandmother, Aiya, has trained her since she was a little girl in the Quincy arts and abilities and techniques. Growing up as she endured her grandmother's training, Maki demonstrated to her grandmother to possess an aptitude for the training and concepts for manipulating spiritual energies. The girl proved to be something of a natural one might say.
Quincy Cross
It is a gothic silver cross on a thin leather string wrapped several times around her right wrist.
Quincy Bow
When she transforms her Quincy Cross into her bow, it appears as a cyan light taking on the form of a tall, narrow diamond shape with a cyan cross of light reaching corner to corner within the diamond shape's borders. Her left hand grasping onto the core of it, while the right forms its spirit arrow. It is something she has learned to create and utilize with ease and impressive accuracy for someone of her age.
Other Quincy Items
Seele Scheinder: These originally belonged to her grandfather, and her grandmother too old to continue to fight as a Quincy passed them onto Maki. It was one of the many things of the Quincy combative arts she trained her granddaughter to use properly. They can be used as a sword or bow and arrow, albeit, she is no swordsman, she is an archer almost exclusively - so it is a very rare event should she ever use one as a blade.
Sanrei Glove: It originally belonged to her grandmother, who of course, never used it. It is an old heirloom amongst their family given to the next generation of Quincy, because of Maki's father's disinterest in fulfilling their family legacy as Quincy descendants, it fell into Maki's hands. Her grandmother taught her and told how it is used, in grained her with the knowledge, but the actual practice is not there for Maki, naturally, she has never worn it - for if she did she could never remove it and were she to - it would no longer exist.

Abilities
--------------------
Ransotengai
- Description of Attack - Because of her old age, Maki's grandmother often utilizes this technique having mastered it years prier. She taught Maki how to do it in the course of her training, but still being young as she is, Maki still only knows the basic concepts of it and is still a novice at the technique as it is quite advanced.
- Type - Spirit
- Range - Caster
- Limitation - Because Maki is still a novice with the technique, she can only maintain it for a very short duration, and it proves to be quite taxing for her.
Reiryoku Absorption/Manipulation
- Description of Attack - This she has learned to do with a great deal of efficiency. To even form their bow of light a Quincy must know how to manipulate reiryoku, but in order to empower themselves to be strong enough to face Hollows, especially the more powerful ones - they must learn how to absorb spiritual particles from their surroundings. For Maki, it is less reaching here and there for the reiryoku she needs to use, hers is more of a mass draw imbuing it into herself from all around her.
- Type - Spirit
- Range - 20 meter radius
- Limitation - Though by far more efficient for gaining reiryoku, it is also more taxing and can easily exhaust her if done too often.
Letzter Stil (Final Form)
- Description of Attack - While giving Maki the know-how as to how to properly use the Sanrei Glove should she ever be desperate enough to try it, her grandmother also gave her the basic understanding as how to utilize the Quincy Final Form, and teaching her its consequences.
- Type - Spirit
- Range - Caster
- Limitation - Once again the knowledge is there, but the actual practice and experience is not. On top of which, if actually ever used, she loses all of her Quincy powers.

Ribbons... so many ribbons... she can see so many white ribbons tangled amongst one another as she walked to school. Each ribbon leading to a new direction, each ribbon belonging to a different face. Odd - one ribbon stood out from the others, her grandmother told her about these ribbons, the shade of red. What was it she told her...? The memory evades her recollection, only one way to find now is to follow it to where it leads. Winding through the streets and alleyways of Karakura, peculiar it was leading precisely to her school.
Good thing she is uniform, otherwise the situation would be awkward, albeit she was heading off to school anyway, convenience. Still, she followed the red ribbon, of course, the other students did not see the ribbons, nor did any of the other ordinary citizens of the city, they do not have that sort of talent or training, like she does. Following the ribbon to its source, winding through the hallways, back out to the courtyards - finally she found what the red ribbon belonged to. How could she forget this detail in the course of a her training? A red ribbon belongs to a, "Shinigami.", she uttered with a cold narrowed eyed gaze.
Luckily there was no else there, the bell for class had long since rang, Maki simply ignored it to indulge curiosity, and also if someone were there it would look as though she were speaking to nothing but air. But, there was definitely someone standing before her. A Shinigami in uniform, a tall man looking to be in his mid-twenties. Though, he did not appear to be of anyone of high upstanding rank, though he could be Seated, or might not be, she could tell that he could tell what she is as she could him, "Quincy.", he uttered in a dull tone.
A long and tense moment passed between them as they glared each other like cultural fundamentalist of opposing sides in a war staring at one another with an ire filled hatred. A second later the school baseball team begun running out into the field being loud and blustering as they ran. It was Maki who was distracted by their noise first, but a trice later she perceived an increase in spiritual pressure.
Looking back to where the Shinigami stood, she saw him running off with great speed - utilizing the technique Shunpou. Maki's eyes narrowed slightly, though it was just as well, facing off with a Shinigami on school grounds would not be wise. With a calming sigh, Maki merely turned and walked off back to class as though it were just another...
