When I create a character, the first thing I do is sketches, usually to music, to see if I can come up with an interesting-looking character. After that I choose one of the designs and work everything else, powers, background, personality, on the sketch. I thought I'd post the sketches I did when I was creating my character for this site, so you can see what might have been when it came to Akiko Hayashi =P
But first, a drawing of Gin.
Anyway!
This one looks a LOT like Akiko would if he was older. The lance he's holding was also a shikai concept, but it's not the one I'm going to go with when he does, eventually achieve it.
This time I went for the unconventional approach. He may look slow and bumbling, but he's second division and deceptively quick. He looks a bit too evil, though, and I thought he'd be limited when it came to RPing him. Kind of Gin-ish in nature, I guess.
An arrancar design now. In the end it came down to either this one or the one I chose, but I thought it would be just more fun to build up a younger character who was only just beginning to discover his own powers. It was close though.
Here's that arrancar's potential ressurecion. His special ability is that he shoots liquid out from the undersides of his forearms. This liquid then hardens in mid-air, freezing in the shape of whatever motion he was making at the time. As such, he could simply flick his arms forward and form sword-shapes (as shown), or maybe whip his hands up to form them into scythe-shapes. The possibilities are endless, when applied with a little imagination.
So those are the concept sketches I went through before settling on the Akiko I now play.
