Minamoto is 1.87 meter long (6.14’) and weights 68 kilograms (149.914 lb). He has light gray wavy hair that falls naturally along his face so it won’t hide any facial features. He has two big wisps of hair at the front of his haircut that reach up to his neck. The hair at the back of his haircut reaches just below his neck and ends in a v-like shape that curls outward.
Minamoto has deep purple eyes and a warm and comforting smile along with a slightly toned skin and a warm, rather low voice. He also has a couple of small ears; his ears are nearly hidden within his hair. Just under the middle of his face Minamoto has a small pointy nose. He has no facial hair or tattoos; Minamoto finds those things barbaric and unfitting for a refined gentleman like himself.
Minamoto is slender person with thin arms and thin legs. He appears to be very fragile, easy to get hurt and weak, but that’s quite the opposite, he has enough strength to use a big and heavy Nodachi with great efficiency. His slender figure makes his Shinigami attire look a size to big, especially because Minamoto’s attire has longer sleeves then the average Shinigami attire, his own personal touch to his uniform. Furthermore Minamoto wears his zanpakuto on his back and it’s kept there thanks to the scarf-like cloth attached to the sheath of his zanpakuto, he wears the cloth over his left shoulder to his right hip.
Personality
Minamoto is a friendly and kind young man with great manners. He would never curse and he often praises people even when they accomplish the smallest of things, like killing a weak hollow, or even solving a simple math problem. Even though his great manner might be good in some situations, he has trouble expressing his feelings thanks to those manners. He is also blessed with a great talent: he's great at playing the piano.
Minamoto likes people who are like him, kind, friendly, and good mannered. He also adores people who play a music instrument just like him, and people who fiercely believe in some kind of idea or strive for a certain goal. But he gets rather annoyed by people who are mean, aggressive, or barbaric.
Minamoto is quite the friendly person, not trying to harm anything that looks human unless there is no option left. And even when he swings his sword he holds back, he would never go all out against anything with a human form. And even though he can go all out against things like hollows, he would still like other to do it.
History
The story of a young boy called Minamoto Yoshiya starts in Japan; Minamoto was the son of a wealthy businessman and his wife. Minamoto's mother was a very friendly woman who could solve any conflict with one of her smiles; directly after his birth Minamoto was very attached to her.
Minamoto's father was quite the opposite of his wife, he wasn't home very often and whenever he would see Minamoto he would ignore him. On those special occasions that he would talk to Minamoto it was only to tell him how worthless he was. In Minamoto's short life on earth his father has never praised him.
One day Minamoto crawled behind the piano, and suddenly started playing some tunes. His mother noticed it and hired a piano tutor so Minamoto could learn to play the piano. Minamoto learned very quick and within several years he was able to play some complex pieces of music. In an attempt to gain his fathers praise he played "the Turkish march" before the watching eye of his dad, but even after playing such a piece of music at his fathers birthday he didn't get praised.
Years later Minamoto had to go with his mother to deposit some money at the bank. But just when they were next in line a bunch of guys storm into the building, all five of them had guns and they were attempting to rob the bank. Thanks to swift action of the woman behind the counter the police came to arrest those guys. Once the group of thieves heard the sirens they became nervous, and eventually one of them got crazy and started shooting around, Minamoto's mom tried to protect Minamoto from getting hurt, and she failed. Even though she gave her life to protect Minamoto, three stray bullets hit Minamoto, one hit his left ear, the second his right ear, and the third struck his shoulder. On that day Minamoto had lost both his mother and his ability to hear.
Years later, when Minamoto was 17, he decided to ask what he wanted to ask him for several years now. He walked to his father’s office and entered. Minamoto knew where his father was, behind his desk. With big steps Minamoto walked up to his father and asked why his father didn't cry at his wife's funeral. This question enraged his father and they got into a fight, in the end Minamoto's father won the fight and his own dad killed Minamoto.
After his death Minamoto gained a new home in Soul Society, in the first West-Rukongai district: Junrinan. Upon arriving there he gained shelter in a small house, the house was used by a lovely woman, with an even lovelier smile. For no real reason she felt attached to Mianmoto, and Minamoto felt the same about her. What the two didn’t know about each other was that the woman was actually Minamoto’s mother.
After a while in Soul Society Minamoto started to see the lovely woman as his real mother, and the woman started to see Minamoto as her soon, but soon after they felt like that about each other Minamoto got spotted by a Shinigami. That Shinigami told him he had real potential to become a Shinigami too. And after discussing it with his mother, Minamoto applied for the Shinigami academy. The reason for his application was his mother; she wanted him to become a Shinigami.
Minamoto filled every free day at the academy. He would try to make new friends, or hang out with the friends he already had, about half the time he tried to visit his mother, and in his remaining time he would either rest, or train a bit. He eventually succeeded in making some new friends, and he was also able to visit his mother quite often.
Every time Minamoto visited his mother she would listen to all of Minamoto's stories, even when he had already told them several times and every minute she would look at him with a look shining with proud and interest for the stories. And on her turn Minamoto's mother would tell him what happened to her. And some days, when a lot had happened Minamoto would stay over, just so they could continue the next morning. Everything went great for Minamoto until one day he was send on a special mission.
Minamoto and two of his friend were formed into a team and they were being sent on a mission, Minamoto didn't remember the exact time of the briefing, but it was around 11 pm. All three of them were sleepy, but they came out of bed because the hell butterfly told them it was an important mission.
At exactly 12 pm they were send to the world of the living. Their mission was to save the soul of a man, who was bound to his residence, or more specific, the safe inside his mansion. At just past 12 they reached the mansion, and the three friends entered. Directly after entering Minamoto felt something familiar, but he couldn't quite grasp what it was.
The three were told that the safe was at the second floor, in the study room of the owner of the mansion. Minamoto had no trouble finding the place; it was like he had been to the mansion before, and when one of Minamoto's friends questioned Minamoto had been there before, Minamoto could just reply with:
"I have no idea."
As soon as they reached the safe they saw the soul of a very old man with shoulder length, wiped back, gray hair chained to the safe, with his soul chain nearly eroded. Minamoto's friends entered first, and upon their enter the old man began to freak out. That was until Minamoto came in, upon Minamoto's enter the old man calmed down, and began talking to himself. Until suddenly he began screaming:
"Son! My dear son! Please my son! Help me! They want to take me away! I want you to stop them! Please I am your father!"
Minamoto didn't recognize the man, and therefore kept silent, while carefully reaching for his zanpakuto on his back. Minamoto noticed that the eroding of the soul chain began to accelerate. When the old man didn't get an answer he began screaming again, this time more angry.
"Why won't you help your own father!? I demand you to help me! I ORDER YOU AS YOUR FATHER!"
Before that last scream reached the last corner of the residence the old man's soul chain disappeared. And a new scream drowned the last scream. The old man's body began to turn in several sections, and he gained the body of a centipede. And before the three boys knew it a giant hollow stood before them, ready to attack soon.
Minamoto's friend rushed into the fight but Minamoto’s dad quickly overpowered them. Even though Minamoto didn't want to fight, he had no options anymore. He grabbed his zanpakuto and a strange voice stopped just when he wanted to rush in he. The voice questioned whether or not Minamoto wanted to kill his own dad, Minamoto replied he had no other option, if he didn't his friends would be killed. The voice seemed happy and replied:
"Stay, hear soon."
Minamoto didn't quite get what the voice told him, but he got yelled back into reality as his friends asked for his help. Without much effort Minamoto managed to keep his dad away from his friends, his friends managed to get up, and finished Minamoto's dad. The boys watched as the gates of hell opened outside the house, and Minamoto's dad got sucked in. And with two people smiling and one Minamoto thinking the group returned to Soul Society to report.
But instead of getting complemented on the fact that they killed the hollow they got scolded for not saving the soul of it. But even though the yelling was loud nothing of it passed trough Minamoto's mind as he was thinking about the voice. That evening Minamoto would visit his mom and ask her for advice. And his always-reliable mother advised him to train and do more missions.
And Minamoto did just as his mother advised. The next couple of mission he kept hearing that same voice and every time the voice would whisper the same three words. After several times of speaking the voice didn't surprise Minamoto anymore, it started to feel familiar, to become a part of himself.
After a couple of years, when Minamoto was about 146 years old, he was invited for a special mission. With a group of twenty Shinigami they were out to the world of the living to purify a small town of hollows. The town however was recently struck by a hurricane, creating great sadness, and a great number of hollows.
At first there were no problems but after several hours the team leader suggested that the team should split up in three man cells so they were done earlier. Minamoto objected but his objection was overruled by the confidence of the team leader, but soon they would found out why Minamoto objected.
Minamoto got assigned as team leader of his cell; he was a team with a small shy girl who did noting but stutter and a tall and toned boy who could nothing besides being loud. Even though Minamoto got frustrated he knew he would have to protect them no matter what, but this was hard. Just minutes after the group had separated Minamoto and his cell encountered a strong hollow who proved too strong for the team, the shy girl proved to be quite the fighter, but the tall boy got struck down almost instantly after the fight had began.
It was an endless battle and Minamoto saw that the young boy was bleeding a lot, enough for it to be lethal. And in the heat of battle something weird happened. The voice that had been so familiar to Minamoto started to talk again, but this time it used different words.
"To save. Me, Isobe Katsugi."
Without a certain reason Minamoto immediately understood the words and released his zanpakuto. He quickly overpowered the hollow before him and checked the boy. While treating the boys wounds Minamoto asked the shy girl to find the other cells and she did what she was asked. In a short while everyone had gathered, most had minor wounds, and some mayor ones. They quickly retreated to Soul Society to treat the fallen boy and Minamoto returned to his bed, totally exhausted.
The next day Minamoto would get up early to train, he was determent to reach his zanpakuto's inner world. And after a full day of Jinzen he was only able to see vague pictures of a scene filled with water. His zanpakuto would say some words to him, but only words Minamoto already knew, ‘me’ and ‘Isobe Katsugi’.
After a week of Jinzen Minamoto had finally succeeded in entering his inner world. His only problem was, he wasn't able to summon Isobe Katsugi. She would talk to him, but would not show herself. Only after a month of Jinzen she would show her beautiful form. Upon seeing her Minamoto got filled with pride, he found her absolutely beautiful.
Minamoto's first real conversation with Isobe Katsugi was really awkward. Minamoto had trouble to make good sentences out of the words Isobe Katsugi spoke, on top of that was the fact that Isobe Katsugi was very shy, this would result in some awkward situations. But after weeks of just talking Minamoto had convinced Isobe Katsugi to teach him.
There was but one condition, Minamoto had to swim across the whole lake inside Minamoto's inner world. This test seemed impossible because after years of swimming he still didn't reach the end of the lake. After those years Isobe Katsugi explained that the lake has no boundaries, and that it was all but a test of Minamoto's endurance. And Isobe Katsugi found him worthy of a whole new stage of power, the ability to heal, and the ability to attack with a powerful attack.
They started training the day after, first they trained how Minamoto could use his reiatsu more efficiently to hold up Suiikiono longer, after that Isobe Katsugi would teach Minamoto Shinimizu, and after that she would teach him Hibaku. This took more months of Minamoto's life.
At the time he obtained those new abilities he had forgotten about his friends and family. Years had gone by without him visiting his mother, so the first thing he did after obtaining his new abilities was visiting his mother and tell her about everything. And she was incredibly proud of Minamoto; she even suggested that he would search for a squad to join. Obviously Minamoto couldn't his mother’s suggestion and that was where Minamoto's journey began.

Unreleased Appearance
Minamoto’s unreleased zanpakuto takes the form of a Nodachi (meaning “Field sword”). The hilt of Minamoto’s zanpakuto is 30 centimeters long (12 inches) and is wrapped in a purple cloth. The full length of Minamoto’s zanpakuto is 97 centimeters (3.2'). The sheath of the blade is made from wood and therefore very light, most of the weight comes from the Nodachi.

Spirit Appearance
Isobe Katsugi takes the form of a half-meter (1' 7.68") long beautiful butterfly. Isobe Katsugi has a total of twelve wings, four high and two low wings at each side. And Isobe Katsugi's body is completely made out of water; she will appear and disappear from the lake at will. And from the middle of Isobe Katsugi's body a blinding white light shines, and it appears as Isobe Katsugi talks to Minamoto trough the light.
Personality
Isobe Katsugi is a very beautiful zanpakuto, but she doesn't like to show herself. She likes to stay one with the water as long as possible, only if it's really necessary she comes out to aid Minamoto. She is also very shy in her words, keeping most of them to herself, only speaking the one's that are needed, on top of that she stutters a lot.
Not only is Isobe Katsugi very shy, she’s also very timid. She gets scared very easily up to the point that only a sharp or mean look is enough for Isobe Katsugi to get scared and dive back into the lake. Once she dives back into the lake she won't come out until the next day.
Relationship to Master
Isobe Katsugi sees Minamoto as a very charming young man, and she likes to hear his voice. Most of the time she's too shy to face Minamoto. The relationship between Minamoto and Isobe Katsugi is very good, Minamoto would only be mad to her on very rare occasion, and Isobe Katsugi would only get scared of Minamoto when he's in a bad mood. When Minamoto is in a bad mood Isobe Katsugi is too scared to face Minamoto no matter how hard Minamoto tried to hide his mood.
Inner World
Minamoto's inner world takes the form of a giant lake, with a wooden dock floating in the middle. The dock is a long but thin one, being 1x12 meter big. (3.28'x39.37') In the horizon a couple of mountains, many trees grow on those mountains coloring most of them green. The lake is Isobe Katsugi’s home, and she spends most of her time in the lake along with the fish.

Shikai Appearance
Isobe Katsugi's released form takes the appearance of a big steel warfan with two big circles. The total length of the warfan is 1.25 meter (4.1') the upper circle of the warfan has a diameter of 45 centimeters (1.48') and the lower circle has a diameter of 31 centimeters (1'). On each side of the upper circle are three red/purple water drops. And on the left side of the lower circle is Japanese symbol engraved. The symbol means: water.
Shikai Abilities
Suiikiono litr., water area axe
- Description of Attack - Minamoto stands still to concentrate himself and then starts pumping reiatsu in Isobe Katsugi this takes 2 seconds. After pumping reiatsu into his zanpakuto Minamoto starts swinging it in a 360-degree spin. While spinning his zanpakuto around Minamoto gathers hydrogen from the air to form a big sphere of flowing water on the fan of Isobe Katsugi. After three full swings Minamoto has enough water, and stops swinging. He stands still for several seconds (about 3 seconds) as the water sphere starts forming into a big axe around the fan of Isobe Katsugi, Minamoto can stop using this attack at any time he wants.
This axe has two cutting edges one at the back and one at the front of the fan. Both cutting edges are 72 centimeters long (28.35") and they serve to increase Minamoto's range and turn blunt damage from his zanpakuto in cutting damage. This attack also has to be used if Minamoto would like to use any of the techniques below.- Type - Offensive/Activation
- Range - Minamoto's zanpakuto
- Limitation - This technique doesn't increase any damage done by Minamoto, it only changes blunt damage into cutting damage and increases the range of Minamoto's zanpakuto. On top of that this attack causes Minamoto's reiatsu level to constantly drop and before he can actually use this attack, there is a short period in which Minamoto has to stand still, so he's open for an attack.
To activate this attack Minamoto uses 5% of his maximum reiatsu, and after the axe has formed around the zanpakuto there is a constant reiatsu decrease. Once Minamoto's reiatsu decreases below 5% this attack dissolves back in the air, this happens after 20 minutes, unless techniques that require reiatsu are used, those would decrease the time he can use this attack. And when Minamoto's zanpakuto gets hit with a lightning elemental attack, it conducts the damage to Minamoto.
Shinimizu litr., water given to a dying person
- Description of Attack - Minamoto grabs his zanpakuto at the beginning of the fan, and his left hand is opened above the fan. Minamoto softly whispers Shinimizu, and the water from Suiikiono forms into a small sphere of water, with the size of a baseball. After Minamoto has infused a lot of his reiatsu into the sphere he pushes the sphere trough the belly of himself or another person, the sphere goes trough the skin without damaging anything, but it takes some time. After the whole sphere is inside the belly of the person, it starts to heal their injuries.
Minor wounds, small cuts, and first degree burn wounds take 10 minutes to heal. While mayor wounds, deep cuts, and third degree burn wounds take 20 minutes to heal.- Type - Healing
- Range - self or other person (>1 meter, >3')
- Limitation - This technique requires Minamoto to have his first Shikai attack active, and it takes quite some time to insert the sphere into someone, creating a huge opening, therefore it is almost impossible to use in a one on one fight. On top of that, this attack takes much of Minamoto's reiatsu (50% of his maximum reiatsu) and can only be used once per thread.
Hibaku litr., water falling of a high place
- Description of Attack - Minamoto starts when Suiikiono is activated and pointed toward the ground. Minamoto calls out the name of the technique and jumps high into the air. While Minamoto flies upward he spins around making a lot of 360-degree spins. At the top of the flight Minamoto has gathered a lot of water and prepares to fire the water with high pressure at the opponent. While falling down Minamoto gets a good hold of his zanpakuto, and when he's at 50 yards high, he swings his zanpakuto and a pillar of water shoots straight toward the place he aims and causes blunt damage if it hits an opponent. The pillar has a diameter of 5 meter (16') and travels with the speed of 50 yards per second.

- Limitation - Minamoto can only use this attack if Suiikiono is activated. And he can't use this attack if he is in a space with a roof, and when he's in the air gathering water or falling down after he used the attack he's vulnerable to attacks. On top of that this attacks also requires 30% of Minamoto's maximum reiatsu.
- Tier effects - This attack has a damage potential of 95% to 100% to opponents 2 tiers below, a damage potential of 90% to 100% to opponents 1 tier below, a damage potential of 55% to 90% to opponents from the same tier, a damage potential of 0% to 10% to opponents 1 tier above, and this attack has no damage potential at all to people of 2 tiers or more above.

It was a beautiful day in the world of the living. Minamoto had a day of and he had requested a gigai so he could spend this day in the park. With his hands moving softly along his body Minamoto scanned the area with a friendly look, and a small warm grin on his face. He noticed two little boys playing soccer.
He walked toward the boys and saw how one of the two was very good at juggling with the ball. He came close to the juggling boy who immediately dropped his ball. With a gentle smile Minamoto asked for the boys name. The boy, who normally wouldn't talk to stranger, got bewitched by the friendly smile and told Minamoto what he wanted to know. Minamoto's purple eyes stared into the blue eyes of the boy as he said:
"Let me tell you this Ozanu, you're very good at soccer, keep on playing like this, and one day you'll become more famous then your favorite soccer player."
The boy's eyes grew bigger and bigger, and a huge smile appeared across his face. Suddenly the boy began asking like: "Did you really meant that sir?" and "Can I really do so?". And Minamoto just stood there and listened, sometimes friendly nodding. And after the boy was finished, Minamoto raised his hands, rubbed it trough the little boy's hair, and gently replied:
"Yes, just believe in yourself."
And with a friendly smile Minamoto left to enjoy the rest of his day off. He hadn't turned around or the boys already started juggling, this time even more enthusiastic as before they met Minamoto. With a smile of satisfaction Minamoto walked trough the streets as he was staring toward the sky, thinking about Ozanu.
