General Information
--------------------
Name: Mikhail Rost (Nicknames - "Little Wolf" "Snowflake" "Frosty")
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Appearance
Mikhail strikes a roguishly, handsome visage standing about six foot two, and weighing about one-hundred, and eighty pounds. His lightly tanned body is toned, and athletic from work outs, running, and training. He has short, seemingly always wind tossed, dark brown hair, that never really looks groomed the way he would want it to be. He has piercing hazel eyes, and a warm friendly smile.
He likes to dress in varying shades of blue, with black and white. His usual attire consists of blue, or black jeans, or slacks, loose T's, or buttoned shirts, and a black jacket over that over it all, open in the front. Almost always around his neck is a necklace of snowflake obsidian beads, associated with balance, protection and breaking bad luck, and quartz, which is associated with mysticism, and spirituality. It was a gift from 'Grandma' Jeanova on his 13th birthday.
He's sometimes seen with any of the following; a designed blue/black scarf, draped lightly about his shoulders and neck, leg or wrist weights, which are most of the time covered by his clothes, or with his black and silver violin in its case. A new part of his outfit, sometimes worn, are a pair of fighting gloves that were given to him by his sensei, Samyeru. They are metallic blue, having a black outline, and a wolf picture on the back, that Mikhail thinks is just so awesome. These items are mundane as far as Mikhail knows.
Personality
Mikhail's cool exterior, hides a warm personality. He's outgoing, friendly, and open to most. Its rare that he won't at least try to strike up a conversation, with even complete strangers. Around girls though, he embarrasses easily, and has a hard time really fighting them if the situation arises. For some reason he seems to attract irritable girls, who always want to beat the crap outta him, classmates, and angry arrancar alike.
Mikhail strives to improve himself, and is hurt when those he looks up to, think little of him. Dealing with fears and anxiety, over facing things far beyond what he knows, is part of being human.
Mikhail is quick witted and sometimes playful, but also shares many of the traits his ancestor had. He is very loyal to, and protective for those he cares about, stubbornly enduring to the point of idiocy when it involves keeping them safe. Most fights he's been in, seemed to involve looking out for someone else. Mikhail just can't stand bullies, which often gets him into trouble. No good deed goes unpunished, some say, or at least it would seem that way sometimes.
Mikhail loves his music played on an very old, but seemingly immaculate, silver and black violin. He's very good, and sometimes plays it in the park for people. Not for money really though the tips he makes are welcome. More to see the wonder in peoples faces, contentedly awed by a sense of the miraculous in every day life. He's seen it before, when the first snows fall in Winter, and the expressions of old and young alike. Its his favorite time of year really. He'll bundle up a bit, but hes actually kinda comfortable in the cold.
History
Mikhail's grandfather, Afein Rost, a knight of the Russian courts, traveled to Japan in the interests of diplomacy. To pass the time during the long trip by wagon, then by ship, his escorts spirits are lifted by the beautiful sounds of Afein's black and silver violin as he plays. On the night he disembarked from the ship, he meant to find a place to relax, and perhaps have a drink. He left his escort to unpack and make preparations, and ended up getting a bit lost. He caught a glimpse of some kind of warrior woman running off, and followed her to a windmill on the outskirts of town. Afein watched as she did battle with some evil entity he could barely see. The night was cold and the battle was furious, by its end the windmill was ablaze outlining their forms in the night. When she was struck down by the creature, Afein drew his sword and charged in without regard for his own life. He was able to drive it off eventually and carried her to safety.
He discovered the woman's name was Jeanova, and became enamored with her to the point, he absentmindedly missed a meeting with his contact just to be with her. Several months passed with the two meeting near nightly, Afein would play his violin for her and it always made her smile. He explained why he had come to Japan and wanted to know all about her, but he could tell there was something she would not speak of, and he did not pry, he was sure there would be time. They both had their duties after all, and the relationship was not to last.
When the entity returned for revenge, there was a chilling, biting blizzard, and snow had blanketed the land. The battle took place on a bridge overlooking a frozen river. Afein and Jeanova facing off against the creature which by now was much clearer for him to see. A large, gruesome, masked entity with a hole where its heart should be. Afein and Jeanova struck time after time, but it was very powerful. During the fight, Afein was knocked over the edge of the bridge by one of the hollows powerful fists. Afein fell, crashing through the ice, and was lost. Jeanova screamed for him and slashed the Hollow with a vengeance causing the creature to cry out in agony and retreat briefly. She had won but at the cost of his life, or so it seemed. Jeanova fell to her knees and her fingers numbly dropped her blade and dug into the snow and ice.
Saddened so, Jeanova barely noticed a change in the winds, and a bright blue light form over the river. Afein's form materialized within the light as a chained, frosty white haired, blue skinned spirit, with power over the cold that condemned him. Jeanova could not contain her tears, and suddenly the hollow appeared to attack again at her weakest moment. Afein snapped to attention and those chains around him snaked out, wrapping around the Hollows arms and freezing them in place. His eyes glowed an icy blue and Jeanova hearing the attack behind her lifted her blade from the ground and was able to deal a final blow to the creature.
As the hollow faded, the chains retreated, and Afein stepped close to reach up and touch Jeanova's cheek. He watched the tears become like tiny crystals. Jeanova was revealed as a Shinigami, she had to perform her duties, however she could not bear to be without him... She bound his spirit with those chains, explaining what his fate would be should he remain, and solemnly he vowed he would return to rid the world of the evils that had taken him from her.
It wasn't until later that Jeanova discovered that she was pregnant, if she wanted to keep it, she would have to keep the child a secret. She enlisted the help of a friend, another Shinigami who held the 13th seat in her squad, Jeanova herself holding the 12th. She asked that her friend help cover for her and relay any messages or missions, assisting if they could with the promise of being a godparent. Holding the seats they did hopefully not much would be required of them. There were a few close calls, especially after a difficult mission but they managed to keep the child alive and secret.
Jeanova's child, a boy, grew up in the care of the foster family and moved around a few times to throw off any investigation until finally settling in Karakura town. Jeanova kept an eye on him when she could, but much time was spent making up for missed appearances, and maintaining the deception. Sadly she couldn't tell if the boy inherited any powers, and seemed rather normal. He grew up and married a Japanese woman, and of that union came Mikhail.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Almost 50 years after Afein and Jeanova met, Mikhail was born in Karakura Hospital. 'Grandma' Jeanova, visits occasionally, but always seems to have something else on her mind and can't stay for long. She always seems very interested to know how Mikhail is doing. Mikhail is amazed that she's still around. When asked, she attributes it to exercise and a good diet and finishes with telling him to mind his own business. He of course loves when Grandma visits, she always has the best stories, and has taught him to speak Russian, which she says was the language of his grandfather. She speaks of him as a brave and honorable man, and Mikhail aspires to be like him.
Around seven years old, Mikhail's sister is born, named Anya. Mikhail's parents, busy with work and the new baby, don't seem to have much time to spend with him anymore. Its hard not to feel neglected but when he looks at it another way, now he has someone special to look after and take care of. He starts to look forward to spending time with Grandma more and more. He does well enough in school and is good at making friends, aside from getting into trouble keeping bullies from picking on the smaller kids. Its what Grandpa would have done, to protect those who can't protect themselves. His parents don't like him getting involved with those fights but when he tells Grandma about it she usually smiles. Probably because sticking up for the little guy is what his grandfather would do.
When Mikhail turned thirteen, Grandma said it was a special time in his life and gave him his necklace of snowflake obsidian and quartz, and his Grandfather's silver and black violin. Both were beautiful gifts and he was determined to learn to play the instrument. To his knowledge both are simply mundane items, but there might be more to them then meets the eye. Anya starts going to school and he walks with her everyday before heading to his own classes.
Around fifteen years of age between practicing on his own and learning in school, hes picked up playing his violin very well. The music almost comes naturally, and Grandma listens to him play when she can, she smiles and hides her tears well. Mikhail's grades are near the top of his class and he never quits being the hero of the playground. Anya hardly ever gets picked on because of her big brother, she tells Mikhail all about the boys she scares with the over-exaggerated, ominous image of her big brother stomping everyone like Godzilla does Tokyo.
A few months after turning seventeen was when Mikhail had the experience(Spiritual Awakening) that set him wondering just what was going on in his life. He has a deep down feeling, that the human-like figure that defeated the creature, seemed somehow familiar. Since that time, the spirits have become easier to see, and more substantial. Curiously he browsed some books on ghosts, and most just turn out to be nonsense, none where someone actually can interact with the spirits the way he can. He hasn't really brought it up to his family yet, thinking they would just think him mental or something. He also can't shake the feeling that someone or something is watching over him. Then there's the mysterious way mirrors frost over around him. Its really annoying to try and comb your hair when you can't see what you're doing. That and more things he'll just have to get used to or figure out how to control.
Over the last few months Mikhail has come across some strange company. The worst of which just seeming creepy or annoying, but the best of them have become friends. Most mentionable are the Arrancar, Samyeru and Lilith. Mikhail had gone out to the forest one evening for inspiration for his music, and found Samyeru. There the Arrancar was practicing strange kata, and meditating... or something. At the time Mikhail thought Samyeru was some kung-fu hermit type. He and Mikhail talked and got to know each other and Mikhail played his violin for Samyeru.
Mikhail thought it would just be awesome to train under the wise, if eccentric arrancar, even though he had no idea what Samyeru really was. Samyeru agreed to a weekly training regiment, but Mikhail wouldn't stop there. He trained on his own throughout the week, all in the hope of impressing his sensei. Later, he met Lilith, as she started attending Karakura high school. He likes her pretty well, and realizes she has a fiery temper, that he does his best to avoid. That next weekend he discovered their relation to each other, not so different then he to his sister Anya. Aside from being good training partners, they make for great friends.
Mikhail started learning words, and asked his new friends about their meanings, aside from what he could make out for himself. Gigai, and Soul Society, and other things that normal humans had no idea existed. Armed with new knowledge, and facing new threats, he would have to train even harder to keep safe the people and things he cared for. Unfortunately, things started to look bad when Mikhail was attacked while alone.
Another Arrancar, named Samuii, attacked him while he meditated in Tsubakaidai park one day. Mikihail fought well, but wasn't at all prepared for the arrancar's power. A cero blast, blocked only slightly by an icy shield, laid him out at his attackers feet. Hoisted up from the ground she asked him, "What do you live for?" He gave what he thought sounded like a good answer, but the arrancar didn't seem too impressed, maybe the next time they meet he'll have a better one.
He spent roughly the next two weeks in Karakura Hospital, and during that strange time, he had many visitors. His family stopped by when they could, and so did his sensei and training companion. Mikhail's classmate Yugito, bringing him his school work, and giving him a hard time. Even a few of his teachers showed up, who Mikhail discovered were Quincies.
They scared off a really creepy, weird, arrancar guy, who was flirting with Yugito. This seemed to set Mikhail off more then anything else, as despite the constant beating, and silly name calling, deep down, Mikhail was starting to like Yugito. As everyone was leaving, Mikhail lightly scolded her, for her swooning. It was his way of saying he was worried about her, without saying he was. Then before she left, she quickly kissed his cheek, leaving him speechless.
Mikhail was glad to get out of the hospital in time to enjoy the festival a little, but the fun was short lived, when he and other humans gathered at a warehouse, to uncover the mystery of several murders around Karakura town. Yugito was there, as was Ururu, Kasai, and Mayako. A manical lunatic, able to copy the bodies of his victims, was the one responsible. One by one, they fell prey to his maze of traps, and army of clones, but eventually were able to escape and defeat him.
Now with his powers growing, Mikhail will have to prepare more then ever for whatever dangers may lie ahead. Winter is fast approaching, and even with his new experiences and friendships, Mikhail's trails are far from over.

Spiritual Awakening
Mikhail can't stand to see others pushed around, and on the way home from school one day, he saw a younger student, being bullied by three older ones. Now Mikhail had stepped in on others behalf before, took a little bit of a beating, and gave some back, but this time something happened. He remembered the rush of adrenaline, the fight or flight instinct kicking in, as he stepped in between them and the fallen boy. Tensing his muscles for an incoming blow, he exhaled, and could see his breath emerge as if breathing out into the cold night, in Winter. It never came, as part of the building behind them burst into debris, and crumbled.
The three bullies nervously looked around, and then bolted, but Mikhail noticed a piece of stone about to fall on the downed boy. In a flash he stood over him, with his arms up to keep it from falling on the kid. He caught the stone with a grunt of pain, as it fell onto his arms and shoulders. Surprisingly, it felt a lot lighter then it looked, and he muttered a warning to the kid to get moving. The boy quickly got up, and ran off, with nary a thanks, probably just shocked to have survived. A moment later, Mikhail ducked out from under the stone, with a few aches and bruises for the effort. He expected it would fall to the ground behind him, but the stone hung in the air for a moment, before it fell with a sharp, cracking sound. He glanced back, and noticed that it had seemingly grown a jagged arch of ice, linking it to the building, and lightening the load on him.
He didn't have time to wonder though, as another part of the building exploded. A shimmering, monstrous shape lurked near it. Something was there, wasn't it? The figure seemed to turn to look his way, and two points glowed hungrily, within what seemed to be its head. Mikhail was definitely not prepared for this, and backed up against another nearby building fearfully. Suddenly it seemed distracted, and Mikhail watched as a smaller humanoid figure charged, and attacked the thing. The sound of a weapon sang through the air, and cut into the creature, which moments after seemed to dissipate, and vanish altogether. The humanoid thing looked over briefly, then seemed to dismiss Mikhail as it vanished.
That was two years ago, since that time, Mikhail has seen more, and more oddities. He's used to the fact, by now, that whenever a spirit of one form or another is nearby, his breath appears as if he breathed out on a cold night. That, and they've become easier to see. Whatever helped him catch that rock, hasn't happened again, but he sometimes gets a feeling that someone, or something is watching over him. In fact, over the last few months, reflective surfaces in his presence have frosted over, clouding his image, and not having the advantage of a clear mirror, makes it hard to comb his hair that seems constantly windblown. Just what the hell is going on?
Discovery of Powers
Mikhail's abilities first showed themselves when he saved that boy from the crumbling building, Since then many mysterious things have happened to him. From the appearance of frost and ice on things around him, to the actual creation of crystalline objects and weapons.
Abilities Description
Mikhail's abilities seem to revolve around cold and ice. This of course could have something to do with the chained frozen spirit that seems to reside within Mikhail. The spirit haunts his dreams, and leaves him with many questions, not the least of which being what would happen if it was freed.

*Weaknesses
--------------------
((OOC - I added this section to the application because I wanted to give additional limitations))
*Mikhail is still very new to controlling his powers. As such until he can improve, its difficult for him to overcome his powers natural enemy, Fire. Heat and Fire effects used by opponents will effect Mikhail as if the attacker were 1 tier step higher (weak-average, average-strong, strong -next tier weak) Even being in close proximity to a normal large blaze hampers his powers, until he can better learn to control them.
*Mikhail is also not very good with feeling out spiritual presences or identifying them at a distance. His only real way of doing so right now is the wisp of breath that emerges from his mouth like breathing out on a cold night. This tells him that a spiritual being is near but not where or who it might be.
--------------------
Abilities, First Stage
--------------------
Blade of Winter
- Description of Attack - Before, Mikhail was able to create small weapons by infusing the moisture in the air with his reishi, small icicle knives, and disk like shields. The spirit within him is finally starting to tell of its secrets.
This ability allows Mikhail to draw the blade of winter. Its form is a jagged, icy blade 48 inches long in all, with a 36 inch blade. Its entire surface shimmers a silvery blue, and misty frost emanates from it. All in all, its a sad imitation of the one wielded by the spirit itself, that resides within the confines of his body. This leads Mikhail to think that perhaps its true form, is not yet available to him. The sword is capable of 'loosing' 3, foot long, icicle shards with a swing, one at a time, or all at once reducing the blades length accordingly. It regenerates these shards about 1, every 30 seconds. They typically fan out as he swings the blade, and fire off towards an enemy. - Type - Offensive
- Range - Personal, Shards effective to roughly 20 yards.
- Limitation -
*OOC NOTE - Potentially Mikhail could create two swords, one for each hand, but that leaves him without a shield, and would require much practice.
Icy Shield
- Description of Attack - The shield Mikhail is able to create, has improved since its basic disk days. It can be as large as a round, or tower shield, and its entire surface is about three and a half feet wide. Used properly, Mikhail could possibly protect one other along with himself. It shimmers much as the Blade of Winter does, and is sturdy enough that it could be used to bash, or push an opponent.
- Type - Defensive
- Range - Personal-within 5 ft (shielding another)
- Limitation - The Icy Shield takes about 20% of Mikhail's energy to create and maintain. It still doesn't hold up long against a Zanpakuto, and even less against one that is fire based. Luckily, it can take a bit more abuse then its disk-like predecessor before cracking, but the stronger the attack, the more Mikhail will have to focus on its upkeep.
Frozen Soul
- Description of Attack - This ability is the extension of Mikhail's existing, mostly cosmetic effects. While not always active, Mikhail's touch alone is cooling. Drinks stay cold, cold treats don't melt, and through concentration even standing liquids can be frozen.
However, this ability can extend to allowing his normal physical attacks to be cold enhanced through expenditure of energy. A cold aura surrounding his punches and kicks, and in extreme circumstances, his Reiatsu affecting the immediate area. Cool mists and frost extending over the ground, and nearby terrain, up to chilling those of lower power. - Type - Passive/Enhancement
- Range - Personal-touch
- Limitation -
*Group Limitation - The sword and its shards, along with Mikhail's cold imbued attacks, would be less effective against those of a higher tier. Possibly only doing half of the possible damage to those one step higher, and no damage or avoided by those higher then that.
His shield, likewise, would be less effective defending against attacks of a higher tier. It, however, is a bit more sturdy, and able to shrug off about half the damage of those one, or two tier steps higher. After that its not very effective at all, furthermore if used in defense of another, damage is handled by Mikhail's tier not those he defends. (Used to help defend a LLW, it would still take damage as a MLW)

Sample Post 1
Mikhail awoke to another school morning, and got ready as usual. He tried to comb his unruly, dark brown hair, but it wouldn't stay that way. The first good breeze would sweep it around, and there was nothing he could do about it. He wanted to head out a little early today, even if it meant dragging his little sister, Anya, off to school. He came down the stairs, and saw her still calmly eating her breakfast cereal.
"Come on you, finish up and lets go, I wanna get to school early." Mikhail said with slight irritation.
"You just want to go see that girl." Anya teased, knowing their parents wouldn't let her rush off so soon, and get a tummy ache
"What? What are you talking about?" Mikhail shot back with an angry stare, his face turning red with embarrassment.
"I know you were talking to a girl, when you were in the hospital. I asked the nurse who brought your school stuff." Anya grinned seeming very proud of herself, and her investigation skills.
"Oh, Mikhail,..." His father asked peering around his newspaper. "...do you have a girlfriend?"
"No!" Mikhail exclaimed, "Sh,..she's a classmate, who just brought me my work while I was hurt. Besides, she said she got extra credit for doing it so it was just,...convenient for her." He was sounding a little flustered, and frowned a bit at his own excuse. Especially after the secret little kiss, that he wasn't supposed to talk about for fear of crushing by baby grand piano.
"Uh huh." His father nodded knowingly at his response, and his mother smacked his dad with a wooden spoon (Now we know where he gets it) before chiming in. "Leave Mikhail alone. If he wants to go see his girlfriend, let him."
"She's not my girlfriend!" Mikhail blurted out, frustrated and embarrassed beyond words, and getting a good chuckle from the three but there was no winning. Mikhail's shoulders slumped and he picked up his bags to go.
Later that morning, he took Anya to school. She smiled innocently, and sung that annoying kissing song about Mikhail and his girlfriend more then a few times. After he dropped her off, he ran back, and hung around the front of the school so he could see Yugito when she arrived. He reached up to brush his hair back again and sighed. When he saw Yugito, she was talking with some other girls, and laughing about something. Part of him worried that she might be making fun of him, and how he looked in the hospital gown. That was irrational, she wouldn't do that, right?
Their eyes met and Mikhail swallowed nervously. Yugito said something to the other girls, and they continued on with a giggle. She put one hand on her hip, and smirked at Mikhail as she walked up and pointed a finger at him "You stalking me now, Frosty?"
His hazel eyes widened at the accusation and he stammered out a reply. "Huh? What? No! I,..I just wanted to say hi before school started, and see, how your weekend was?" He shrugged and winced at his own reaction.
"It was okay. How was yours?" Yugito smiled at his uncomfortable sounding response, why she delighted in watching him squirm, he would never know.
"More training with Lilith and sensei. I wonder if he's still gonna try for that position as P.E. teacher, that would be fun."
"Why so you can be teacher's pet?"
"No!" Mikhail shook his head with slight frustration. It didn't matter what he said, as everything would probably come with a teasing retort, but he was happy to be able to talk to her. The incidents at the hospital and warehouse, had him worrying about her sometimes. He wouldn't admit it, but deep down he really liked her. The two talked until the bell rang, and then they headed for class.
Sample Post 2
Out training in the forest again, Lilith lounged around the campsite complaining of hunger, until Samyeru revealed a bag full of candy for her. He'd figured this could take a while, and came prepared for her ravenous appetite. He watched his student curiously, as he went about Samyeru's rigorous exercises.
Mikhail had beat on rocks and trees for what felt like hours that morning. He went through various kinds of endurance exercises, that Samyeru claimed were to get Mikhail 'back into things', after the arrancar attack that had hospitalized him for two weeks. He felt like he was ready for more, but Samyeru had stuck to the basics for now.
Samyeru spoke after a little while. "Mikhail, how are your mediation coming along? Have you learned anything new?"
Between punches Mikhail replied. "Not to well, although, I haven't tried since the warehouse. Something strange happened there and I don't remember too much of it. Kasai, Mayako, and Ururu seem to agree that I 'flipped out' after that guy kidnapped Yugito. I mean, I was mad,...its okay to be mad when a friend gets kidnapped"
Mikhail's super denial drew a teasing snicker from Lilith, it made his face redden from annoyance and embarrassment. "You flipped out? I knew she was your girlfriend!" Lilith Exclaimed.
"She is not!" It was sad that they were both in such denial, nearly everyone believed there was something there or at least, something starting. He turned to finish speaking to Samyeru and ignore Lilith's chortles. "They said there was this burst of energy, I've never done anything like that."
His sensei considered this information. "I want you to try to meditate again."
Mikhail sighed, and nodded, still worried about what the others had said. It was like he wasn't in control of himself. "Alright Sensei." He kept his worries to himself, because he didn't want any snide remarks from Lilith, on how they should just give up on him, he hated that.
Mikhail sat down a short distance away to meditate. He closed his eyes and concentrated, and it wasn't long before he was within the great frozen hall again. It had been hard before, but so many visits within his dreams, and through mediation, made it easier to find this place within himself. Mikhail could feel that the spirit was no longer in its cell, but where had it gone.
"Mikhail,..." The spirit called to him suddenly, and as he turned, the darkness in the hall drew back. It revealed the frozen spirit seated upon an icy throne, clad in silvery armor that glistened in the light of the great hall. His hand rested on a magnificent sword's hilt. His blue eyes glowed softly as he stared down at Mikhail solemnly.
"It seems you may be ready to learn, after all."

OOC Notes
--------------------
*The entirety of this application, is a rewrite of the former application that used the old format. I edited certain parts, in the hope that they would be more grammatically correct, or make more sense. As far as what is actually new, Mikhail's abilities first stage are all new, as he had no real powers before, only cosmetic effects. The samples are both new, and I feel are a good addition. Mikhail's skills section is new, and the item (Fighting Gloves) given to him by his Sensei are new. Even though those are the only truly new parts, I hope the whole of the application is considered for the update. I feel this application is easier to read, then the old version.
