General Information
--------------------
Name: Hiwatari Raidou
Actual Age: 190
Appearing Age: 19
Gender: Male
Appearance
Raidou was African American as a human, thus, as a spirit he retains the attributes inherited from his ancestry: full lips, caramel complexion, black hair, brown eyes, and wide nose. His hair is short, cut in a ceasar fade, a common haircut, and he is slender, though toned; blessed with a body like that of a track star, as he has always been known to be fast. While not particularly handsome, he has no telltale scars or blemishes. In fact, he could be mistaken for handsome if it weren't for his childlike naivete, which hinders his sex appeal. He stands at an unimpressive 5'6 and weighs 145 lbs.
Raidou wears the usual black outfit of a shinigami, along with a pair of black fingerless gloves. His sleeves are removed from his shirt. His zanpakuto is worn on his back, held there with a then tan rope around him. When using a gigai Raidou dresses himself in light blues and whites. His favorite being a sky blue and white hoodie with light blue jeans and white tennis shoes, along with his rectangular black rimmed glasses, also known as "techie glasses".
Personality
Raidou, while not morbidly shy or completely incapable of social interaction; is softspoken and prefers to keep to himself. "Friends" he had as a youth can be chalked up to this behavior, mainly because he was always the punching bag of the group; the main target of practical jokes and ridicule. When speaking he's polite and tries to be articulate, and for the most part it works... except for when he's excited or extremely angry, inwhich case his nerdiness kicks in. The young shinigami doesn't use profanity which makes his fits of anger seem comedic, and he uses metaphors from popular nerd fare like videogames and movies from the living world. Raidou also has a great sense of humor, one honed through years of laughing at himself inorder to avoid losing his cool around those making him the butt of many a joke.
His kind nature also reveals a child-like naivete that is easily taken advantage of. Especially by the opposite sex. Raidou tends to stutter or go blank when talking to women as he lacks the confidence to talk to them, likely having his will broken from all his borderline bullying as a kid. He's also nerdy, as anyone who has known him for a while can attest to. His life of silently observing those around him doesn't help much either, as he tends to see people for what they can be, rather than what they are. It's this flaw that makes him naively trust people too soon, or misconstrue their motives. Inother words, too much human observation and too little human interaction has made him lose touch with reality.
Because Raidou keeps to himself he hasn't been shown to have a mean-streak or bad attitude. That's not to say that he doesn't lose composure occasionally, and when he does, it's not pretty. When upset, he sulks for longer than the average guy. When he's angry, he hides it, but remains that way for an unhealthy amount of time. He can even be pushed to fight if he feels he or his friends are being disrespected.
History
Raidou Hiwatari, in his life on the land of the living, was known as Ryan Evans, a teenager born to an electrician father and beautician mother in the US, in small town in the south. His life was uneventful aside from his occasional brush with the paranormal. Ryan was spiritually aware for whatever reason as he grew up, which allowed him to see and hear spirits. One day after school he was attacked by a pack of black beasts with masks. He fled, only to be wounded by one of the beasts severely. The wounds were lethal, but before his soul could be devoured he was saved by what looked to be a samurai dressed in black. It was a shinigami. The shinigami that cut down the black beasts spoke to Ryan's ghost and explained to him what the beasts were, and what the next step was. At this point, Ryan was sent to Soul Society where he was reborn. Like the average plus that experiences konso, he was transported to Soul Society with no knowledge of the events up to that point (or his past life for that matter). He appeared in Soul Society the same as he was when he left. Then, he wandered the streets aimlessly, alone and confused.
Arrival in Soul Society
Ryan was taken in by an elderly man (Raizou Hiwatari) who accurately called him out as a new resident of SS. As his adoptive father he gave him the name Raidou Hiwatari after the man's deceased son Raiden Hiwatari. The man was a potential shinigami while young, but never put his full potential to use. He did however pressure his son into joining the academy, which resulted in the young man's death at the hands of a hollow. Because of this sad turnabout, the man fought to keep Ryan out of the Gotei.
Even though Raizou fought to keep Raidou out of harm's way, the boy found himself in fight after fight with bullies, whether he was being picked on for being dorkish, or because he was from the poorer district and spent all of his time in the book stores in the richer, more posh area of the Seireitei. Things got worse whenever he told his father of the dreams he had been having of a figure approaching him as if searching for him. The figure was shrouded in white, but his voice was barely audible and when he spoke his name, nothing could be heard. Convinced that it was the manifestation of Raidou's zanpakuto making it self known, Raidou's father told him of his potential, but regretted it soon after.
Raidou would come home later and later at night, sneaking in to avoid alerting his father. When finally caught it was revealed that he was spying on shinigami academy students out on training missions, training in kendou on his own, and reading news about shinigami exploits. Tired of being a pushover and a nobody, when he found out he had the potential to be a shinigami he became hooked on the notion of becoming one. Figuring that Raidou deserved some form of happiness to boost his self esteem, his father decided to allow Raidou to pursue his destiny by joining the shinigami academy.
Time in the Academy
Raidou took to his studies quickly, accelling in tactics and strategy, causing him to gain notice quickly, and to gain the ire of other less accomplished academy students. Still, he couldn't be more happy to finally be a part of something. Inorder to avoid being kicked out of the academy or being looked down upon by the higher ups, Raidou started enduring the bullying with a smile.
Graduation
Raidou continued his training up until his graduation. After that, he began to focus his time on fighting actual hollow to increase his proficiencies in battle, his zanjutsu and hoho becoming more impressive by the day. This was a good idea to begin with, as no sparring match can give the amount of experience that a real battle can, but without a division to call his own, Raidou started getting left behind by his former classmates as they were under direct orders from their captains. With no real division in mind (and no want for one, thanks to his introverted nature) Raidou took a more active life around SS, aiding in trivial tasks like gardening and landscaping.
It was during this time that Shirohoshi became more and more vocal. Hating that his master was wasting his potential, the zanpakuto coaxed Raidou into leaving his home and going as far as he can to the outskirts where Hollow tread. He fought hollow after hollow, pushing himself above and beyond his limits. It was at this time that his zanpakuto spoke it's name to him aloud, granting him the full manifestation of his Shikai. Convinced finally that he did have what it took to be a strong ally to the Gotei 13, Raidou returned home, broken and bleeding, ready to seriously consider joining one of the divisions as a contributing member.

Zanpakutō
--------------------
Name: Shirohoshi
Translation - White Star
Unreleased Appearance
Shirohoshi, unlike the average zanpakuto, is not a basic katana, but rather a two-handed Chinese Jian. It sits in a black glossy sheath with a silver design at the tip, center, and opening of the sheath. The hilt of the sword is also silver and thin, with two flanges curved upwards. The handle is black with a silver butt in the shape of a spade, and has a red tassle on the end of it, as Jian often do. The blade itself is 30 inches in length, double edged, and pointed at the tip.
--------------------
Zanpakutō Spirit
--------------------
Name: Shirohoshi
Gender: Male
Spirit Appearance
Shirohoshi can accurately be described as a ghost or wraith. He is robed in a radiant white cloaked hoodie. His body is that of a slender man, however his clothing can't be determined as he seems to be a naked, jet-black silhouette underneath the cloak. His hooded face however, is a blood red mask with only two circular eye holes and a black smile. Looking through these holes reveal no human underneath. Only more darkness. The mask seems porcelain in texture, though brilliant red. Rather than stepping along the ground like the average human being, Shirohoshi floats about half a foot above ground. His voice however is the most normal thing about him: he doesn't sound like a ghostly apparition, but a polite and thoughtful middleaged man.
Personality
Shirohoshi is eloquent, articulate, and polite. A gentleman in every sense of the word. This could explain the reason he takes the form of a Chinese Jian, as they were once known as "The Gentleman's Sword". The sophisticated air around Shirohoshi often gives him a larger than life essence, one that leaves Raidou in awe. In battle Shirohoshi's helpful nature makes him a valuable ally. When Raidou seeks help he almost always leads him to the answers he seeks through riddles or subtle implications.
Relationship to Master
Shirohoshi aids Raidou by "helping him to help himself". Rarely does he insult or belittle him. When he does so however, it's only because he sees his would-be master wasting his potential and wishes to break him out of his funk. He also tends to joke around with his master Raidou. He recognizes that his master is not the most social or outspoken of shinigami, and helps to calm him down so that he can focus on the task at hand by lightening the mood with a joke or two. He also abhores overt violence, which could also have something to do with his zanpakuto form, as Jian were meant for precision strikes rather than violent destructive force.
Inner World
The inner world of Raidou's zanpakuto manifests as an endless blue sky above a sea of white clouds. There are mountains that float in the sky, peeking out of the cloud "landscape", with one in particular that extends upward far higher than the others. One path of floating stones leads to the mountain in particular that Shirohoshi lives on. There are other giant mini-mountains that float above the cloud sea; all islands unto themselves. They have portions of forest and shrubbery on a few, and one in particular has a waterfall that appears from the apex of the mountain and falls off into the clouds below. When Raidou is frightened or distraught the sky is blood red and the area seems less inviting, with pieces of the mountains falling apart slowly, and the trees without leaves. Thunder and lightning boom throughout the world, and the waterfall is dry. Also, the path that leads to Shirohoshi lengthens and becomes more decrepid, with peices falling from it more and more as Raidou's will weakens.

Zanpakutō Shikai
--------------------
Call Out Phrase: "Issen! Shirohoshi!"
Translation - "Flash! Shirohoshi!"
Shikai Appearance
Shirohoshi remains a Chinese jian as before, only now it's blade is 2 inches longer, making it 32 inches in length. The blade is wider by an inch aswell, making it twice the width at the base as a katana. The jian glows the blinding white of Shirohoshi's spirt form's hooded cloak (when using it's special ability). One could liken it to holding a florescent light in their hand, as no lines on the sword can be seen (no edge, no divets in the hilt, nothing. Just whiteness). Infact, it's as if a blacksmith plucked a star from the sky and smithed it to the shape of a jian. The sash on the bottom is longer, but a radiant blood red instead of white, similar to Shirohoshi's mask.
Shikai Abilities
Shiro Ooi White Shroud
- Description of Attack - Shirohoshi resonates a bright white aura through the sword, from the last thread of the sash to the tip of the sword's blade. As it moves a low hum can be heard from the hilt, as if there were some sort of electricity generator deep within. Only those close enough to the sword can actually hear this however.
Shiro Ooi is not an attack, but Shirohoshi's basic ability of light manipulation. Activating it gives Rai access to Shirohoshi's listed light attacks.- Type -Supplementary
- Range -Effects Raidou alone
- Limitation - Shiro Ooi must remain active inorder to give Raidou access to his listed light attacks. It leaves him with 80% of his max reiatsu while active. It's effects are lost when Raidou no longer has the reiatsu to keep it active, or when he purposefully turns off the shroud.
Issen Taihou Flash Cannon
- Description of Attack - A crackling ball of light erupts from the tip of Shirohoshi when he points it, resembling a bright white star. The attack is sometimes mistaken for fire because of it's intense heat, when it's just light used in an energy form. The ball is fast, and is about 3 ft. wide from end to end. Upon contact the attack explodes like a hand grenade, sending the light energy erupting out in a 360 degree orb-shaped explosion. This orb "fizzles" for a moment, causing a flash-bang effect that can blind those that look into it's center. The effect disperses quickly however.
- Type - Offensive
- Range - Long (0-25m)
- Limitation - Requires 20% of Raidou's reiatsu per use. The more the Issen Taihou is used, the more fatigued Raidou becomes because of the physical strain of pumping so much reiatsu into one attack. Raidou can be injured aswell if caught in the blast radius of Issen Taihou's explosion. The attack loses strength if it flies for too long (fifteen meters) without hitting a target.
Enemies weaker than Raidou receive more damage in the form of bleeding wounds and a searing pain. Also, if the attack connects without them blocking they can be pushed back several meters. Enemies stronger than Raidou receive superficial injuries like a singe mark and a tingling discomfort. Those far stronger feel no notable pain.

"Alrighty. Time to get to work." sighed Raidou as he clenched a soot stained towel in front of him on the floor. He stood up on the balls of his feet from his kneeling position and kicked off, rushing across the wooden floor. With about seven steps he had pushed all the way across the room of the court yard. He leaned in such a way that his weight was pressed into the towel, causing his knuckles to whiten with how tight they were clenched. Ignoring the beads of sweat that rolled down into his eyebrows Raidou simply breathed harder and upped the ante. It was his usual ritual when there was something on his mind he hoped would disappear. If ignored long enough his problems would either cease to exist or he would simply be too busy to notice them thanks to his chores or training. So far things were not working as planned. It had been weeks since graduation from the academy and he was still just... hanging around. He refused to deal with the gravity of the situation.
"...what am I doing here?" groaned the taxed youth as he pivoted with a pitter patter of his toes before running across the floor again in the opposite direction. He didn't join the academy to be a custodian, but that's pretty much the extent of his work after graduation. He wandered the halls without a post looking for ways to keep himself from going idle, as the only thing that could look worse than an aimless graduate would be a lazy one. If he could make himself seem useful then definately he would be picked up for a division somewhere. That would take the guesswork and get-to-know-you parts of signing up. Sometimes Raidou just wished every social interaction could be dealt with by avoiding them until life falls into place.
If you really want to be picked up by a Division you could simply apply for one. I assure you there will not be a captain employing a go-for or janitor any time soon
Harder and faster Raidou pushed himself while rounding the pillar in his path and continuing his sprint through the room. It wasn't like him to ignore his partner; his ally Shirohoshi. Infact, he wasn't. When repremanding himself Raidou rarely heard his own voice in his head, but his father or Shirohoshi. Both men were the most logical and sound-minded people in his life, and because of that he felt the need to be better than he was. Better for the people who have faith in his potential. Images of battle flashed in the boy's mind. The Hollow that injured him gravely and forced him to cry out for Shirohoshi's aid.
I needed your help that time. There's no way I'd still be alive if it were not for you Shirohoshi.
Ofcourse not. But is that all you were capable of recognizing? The increase of power I loaned you that dreadful night?
Raidou slowed to a stop and kneeled in the center of the room, alone. Next, the sweat soaked swordsman leaned to his right onto his hip and slid his legs around before placing them together in an Indian style squatting position. Placing his hands on the wooden floor to hold himself up, Rai let out an aggrivated sigh. He looked up and, with the middle finger of his right hand, slid his black rimmed glasses up his nose before taking his liesurely position again. He lightly smiled as he focused on the window above. Rays of golden sunlight warmed his skin. He remembered that fateful night, but was not frightened or disturbed from the memory of the beast that almost took his head.
The warmth. Reminds me of what dad said about the feel of my reiatsu. He said he it was the feeling you get when being approached by a natural leader. A hero even. Funny huh?
Ah. And yet here you are acting as if your fellow shinigami are lepors to be avoided. One would think they were a horde of Hollow the way you avoid them. How powerful do you need to be to have the strength just to talk?
Raidou narrowed his eyes and sighed again before standing up. He turned his gaze away from the sun's rays and over to a stool where Shirohoshi sat awaiting his wielder. "Let's get outta here. We've got more important things to do."
