General Information
--------------------
Name: Masanori Oshiro
Actual Age: 234
Appearing Age: 23(Actual age divided by 10)
Gender: Male
Appearance
Masanori is pretty tall, standing at about six feet and weighing in at one hundred and eighty-five pounds. He has very short, almost seeming buzzcut black hair, with trimmed sideburns. There's also a very small amount of hair on his chin only, all well groomed. He has strong, stern facial features but is not as stoic as his looks may make him seem. He also has a small, crescent shaped scar on his forehead, at his hairline, from a hollow attack. His eyes are hooded and almond shaped, and are a deep, dark brown. He has a charming, small smile and often looks deep in thought, or maybe even daydreaming.
His build is toned and athletic as if he exercises a lot, and while he isn't as strong as his compadre Hisashi, his speed helps him make up for it in their training. Despite how much he eats, he remains active enough that he stays trim. It's something that others tend to resent about him. He has a few small scars all over his body from fights that went badly. Most notable is the one on his forehead, but there are others on his arms and upper body. Masanori is left-handed, and wears a bandage wrapped around that hand that goes up his wrist half way to his elbow.
Masanori mostly wears the traditional garments of the Shinigami, but also wears a Jinbaori, a type of sleeveless, short-coat haori, over his black, long-sleeved kosode. It extends down to his thighs and is light green, his squad's symbolic color, trimmed in black. He wears the white shitagi, obi wrap, and tabi. The black hakama pants and the waraji sandals.
He carries his zanpakuto across his back because of its larger size, drawing it over his left shoulder. It is held in a beautiful, silver, cloth-like sling that goes from his belt on his left, across his chest, and over his right shoulder. Then it returns back across his back to the left again. There's a simple circular weighted iron clasp attached to it that rests at the center of his chest.
Personality
Masanori is considerate and fairminded, he's just about the archetypical, all-around good guy. He has a strong sense of right and wrong, and his time spent in the outer regions of Rukongai has not changed his views. There's good to be found in everyone! He acts like Hisashi's very own version of Jiminy cricket, trying to be the voice of reason or concience when Hisashi's temper starts to get the better of him.
He prefers to attack head on and in a fair fight. He doesn't like trickery or subterfuge, and will announce himself before the fight as is honorable and customary. Any other way of fighting is just absurd and not fair, there's rules of chivalry and whatnot. Why everyone doesn't follow them is beyond his grasp, even hollows deserve to know their doom is upon them before he strikes!
Masanori is a bit Naieve, wanting to believe what others say and trust people easily. He also wants to believe in the justice of soul society, and that all problems can be handled by the laws. Some of them are so strict though,... Nevertheless he has sworn to uphold them.
Masanori has a slight streak of unluckiness. Murphy's law applies, If something can go wrong it will, and things he sometimes says come back to bite him in the ass. That's not to say he's completely incapable, just that things don't always turn out the way he would like, however they may work themselves out in the end.
Not only that but Masanori can be slightly absent-minded, prone to distraction unless he can really, really resist it. He's a little more focused in battle but not by much. Masanori is also a bit of a wimp, he doesn't like to drink much, and doesnt handle alcohol well. Only a cup or two of sake is all it takes to get him drunk.
He likes food and eating, but never seems to gain much weight. A little snack never hurt anybody, besides it makes him feel better when Hisashi does something stupid or is mean to him. Which happens often enough that Masanori should be a blimp but for some strange reason he's not.
Masanori is happy when he can help Hisashi stay out of trouble. He likes looking out for his friend whom he knows has had a harsh life. He wants to help Hisashi reclaim his heritage when he's ready, so long as its done properly. Wouldn't want to see anyone get hurt over it if it could be helped. He and Hisashi both are pretty fond of Kimiko. When they first met her it was a contest for her affection, but over time, Masanori has become more of a protective older brother.
When possible Masanori prefers not to do real harm to human-like enemies. Its one thing to slay a hollow, but something completely different to cut down someone appearing human or another shinigami. To that end he's been working on his hand to hand in order to fight without doing lasting damage.
History
Masanori was raised in the fifty-second district of West Rukongai, his father was a man named Nobuo Oshiro, and his mother was named, Ayane. Masanori's mother stayed at home and took care of him, while his father was a member of a small, rather rag tag, community militia. Sort of the 'neighborhood watch' of the district they lived in. They had no weapons aside from clubs and farmtools, but you would be surprised what you can do with a pitch fork or gardening spade. Nobuo was a good man who understood that the shinigami could not be everywhere, and sometimes the people needed to act for themselves. Nobuo and others chased off thieves and worked together to make the district a safer place to live. Masanori really looked up to his father and wanted to be a just and kind man like him.
Masanori was a softspoken child, so shy that it was hard to get him to come out of his shell. Some kids didn't want to play with him. They figured they wouldn't be able to get away with some of their antics with the son of the watchman. That he would tell his dad and then they would get in trouble. So Masanori spent a lot of time playing alone, just wanting to find a friend.
Masanori also had a pretty big appetite, and his father worried for him. It was said that the more spiritually powerful a person was, the more they needed to eat. Maybe his son was meant to join the ranks of the shinigami. Still, it wasn't something he was going to push his son to unless it was what he wanted.
To make matters worse, as he grew, Masanori noticed he seemed to have a penchant for disaster. If something could go wrong, it almost always did. With the catastrophies ranging from the minor ruining of his father's good robes, to the incident that got him sent away. It got so bad that other kids called him 'Mishap Masanori' or 'Oopsie Oshiro'.
When Masanori was fourteen his absent-mindedness and unlucky streak combined to really put him in a spot. He was fortunate enough to get a guard position in the militia, though it didn't last long. It was simple enough, to just stand guard over a storage shed. The shed held food and work supplies and was important to many members of the community.
That night, Masanori stood guard outside the storage shed with his torch, watching over the area like a hawk. Suddenly he heard a girls voice call for help, there wasn't anyone else nearby so he ran over as quick as he could. He was shocked to see someone standing over the cringing girl with a knife. He ran up to stop them, reaching for the club at his side, but he must've scared the guy off because seeing Masanori he turned tail and ran.
Masanori heaved a heavy breath as the guy ran out of sight and looked back at the fallen girl. She was about his age give or take, and very pretty, if maybe a little smudged up. Her clothes were a little tattered here and there, and she pulled a loose sleeve up over her exposed shoulder as he approached. Masanori blushed and crouched down offering his hand to help her up.
"Y,..you're safe now, my name is Masanori. Are you alright?" He asked her with a slight stutter.
"Yes, thank you. My name is Chika, thank you for rescuing me." She took his hand and smiled at Masanori which made him so embarressed.
"I don't think I've seen you around where are you from?" Masanori questioned curiously.
"I'm from the next district, that man chased me here on my way home, but I'm glad I ran into you Masanori." She stood up with his help and brushed herself off.
Masanori was happy to find someone to talk to, and excited when he thought of how proud his father would be of him helping save someone from danger. Suddenly, he heard a noise back toward the storage shed that sounded like something heavy falling and someone cursing.
"What's that?" Masanori asked with a confused blink of his eyes. "Come on Chika!" He said with urgency tugging her back towards the shed.
"Damn we're outta time!" Someone yelled as Masanori's torchlight neared and there was a sharp whistle as a few guys fled the scene in a hurry.
Masanori confusedly let go of Chika's hand to decide which one to chase, when she up and changed her attitude as well. She pushed Masanori from behind and as he fell and hit the ground, he dropped his torch. Thanks to his bad luck, his torch then rolled over that extra couple of inches towards the shed and in but moments had set it ablaze. Masanori's jaw dropped in shock as the supplies that weren't stolen were set on fire. He looked back to see Chika standing there with an indifferent shrug. She hadn't planned on the blaze but that would help them make their getaway. She frowned slightly at Masanori and waved half-heartedly before taking off with the others. Leaving him crushed as some other civilians ran over with water buckets to put out the fire.
Sadly a few were hurt putting out the fire, and most everything in the storage was lost. Apparently someone had tipped off the thieves that this would be their best chance they would ever have to loot the shed, and the only guard was the socially inept 'Mishap Masanori'! They came up with a plan to have one of their girls distract him while they took what they could grab. Of course that worked like a charm and in the aftermath, there were so many people mad at Masanori, that they forced his parents to send their jinx of a son away.
His parents were saddened but they did what they had to. Masanori took what things he could carry in a pack, and travelled further into the outer districts of West Rukongai. One day he met a man named Hisashi. Hisashi seemed alone like him, and was hungry so Masanori kindly shared some food with him. Hisashi seemed a very troubled young man and Masanori vowed to help him.
Months passed, with each learning the other's story. Hisashi swore Masanori to secrecy about his noble blood until he was strong enough to reclaim his title, couldn't have too many people knowing about him just yet. To gain that strength they would have to become something more and make a better life for themselves. Together, they decided to join the Shinigami academy.
Neither were the best of students, but the two shared a playful rivalry. In hand to hand, or swordsmanship classes Hisashi excelled, but in tests that required speed or anything that had to do with kido Masanori was better. While still in the academy they met a girl named Kimiko while out one day. At first, the two competed for her attention, and over time the three became good friends.
There was an incident during their third year where Masanori and Hisashi were to partake in a training exercise that involved hunting and salying a few weak hollows as a team. With three other academy students, they went into the forest and tracked the hollows. When they thought they had found them Hisashi took the lead and suggested that Masanori and one of others go out into the open while the others waited to strike. In theory the plan should've worked out to where as soon as the hollows revealed themselves the others would attack. Something went wrong however and two of the hollows struck Masanori. One of their claws left the mark on his forehead, and knocked him out.
Later Hisashi visited him while he was laid up and recovering in the infirmary. He apologzied for not acting quickly enough and left feeling guilty. Their teacher visted as well and sat down with Masanori. The teacher was worried about Hisashi's behavior during the exercise. While Masanori knew Hisashi should've been watching his back, he didn't blame him for the incident, Masanori didn't want to think it was anything more then just an accident or something.
Despite the incident they remained good friends and a few years later, Hisashi graduated, then Masanori not long afterward. They wanted to join a squad together, however unlike his friend, Masanori's zanpakuto spirit had yet to reveal itself to him. To be a seated member in a squad you had to have your shikai, it seemed that Masanori would always be behind his friend, Masanori was a little jealous but took it in stride. They both applied to squad five under Captain Kyra Rounin but how things would go from there was anyone's guess.

Masanori's Zanpakuto is a Nodachi. Its hilt is thirty-six centimeters (14.17 inches), and its blade is one-hundred and two centimeters (40.157 inches). Its Tsuka, or handle, is wrapped in black and purple material with a silver Kashira, or buttcap. The tsuba, or guard, is a silver circle and has concentric circles in towards the blade. Just an inch or so above the tsuba, through small holes in the blade at regular intervals, are six, two inch metal rings. These ring together when he swings the blade adding to the whistling sound it already makes in a swing with a soft jingling.

Masanori followed along behind Hisashi as the two walked through Rukongai. Hisashi was ranting again but Masanori was only slightly paying attention. He was thinking about this cute girl from squad four who had talked to him every day while he was in the infirmary. He hadn't told Hisashi about her because if he did go back and talk to her, he didn't want his friend butting in and getting in his way. He started to think how foolish it was to think that maybe she liked him, it was just her job to take care of everyone. Applying those bandages so gently and bringing him food with that warming smile.
"Hey, are you listening to me? I just don't get it, how could she be like that?" Hisashi was angry because Kimiko had blown him off again.
"Come on Hisashi, you shouldn't let it get to you so much. Kimiko is pretty willful, shes gonna do what she wants to do, but she'll always be our friend. Just because she makes other friends doesn't mean she's gonna forget about us. We're like the musketteers, all for one and one for all! We should support her don't you think?"
"Yeah well, you weren't there. It was like I didn't matter."
Masanori put his hands behind his head as he walked "I'm sure that she didn't mean anything by it. She's just being a people person, gotta get to know others when you're in a position like hers. Third seat of squad two,... that's pretty impressive, don't you think? Keep in mind that she's probably also got a lot more work to do, which could influance her attitude as of late."
Masanori could be pretty simple sometimes, but as much as Hisashi wanted to stay mad at Kimiko, he had to admit that made a lot of sense. He gave Masanori a hard edged glare that softened as he thought about what Masanori said.
"Yeeeaaaahhh, I guess you're right."
"Sure, just give her a bit to cool down and we'll go grab a bite to eat together or something, it'll be great." He started daydreaming again as he walked looking down at the ground.
Hisashi smirked seeing a low hanging sign and smacked it as he passed under... "Heads up!"
"Huh?" SMACK! The sign came back and hit Masanori in the face and caused him to stumble back onto his rear. His hand came up and held his nose with a pained expression.
"Heh, damn Masanori, do I need to take you back to the infirmary?" Hisashi asked his friend.
Masanori was about to shake his head no when he thought of the girl that took care of him again. Suddenly he got all dreamy-eyed wondering if she would be there again.
"Uh yeah, yeah you probably should, oh, oh I think its busted...yeah" He was really hamming it up but all he could think of was getting to see her again.
"Come on then, Its a wonder you can get up in the morning you know that?" Hisashi teased helping his friend to his feet.
Masanori frowned and glared back "Hey, I'm not the one who hit the sign,...stop at that snack shop and grab me something on the way would ya?"
