With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
Passing bodies and wary looks, filled the mind of a young woman. Her height made her slightly below the average of others. Her petite body maneuvered through the crowd with easy dodges and some that resulted in her smashing into another person's shoulder. angry looks from the resulting anger and a sort of shirk of her shoulders and she'd duck into hiding in a new position in the masses. Her shy eyes focused on the world in front of her. Communicating would be a waste, after all, she could barely talk with the way her throat was messed up. Why though Why was her throat such a zone of cracked and destroyed tissue and muscle? She always wondered why it was so difficult to speak, but she had yet to get it checked out. It was no matter. She would eventually look into it, if it got too bad.
Where was it? Her eyes were desperate: searching for that source of feeling. That pull that tugged at her heart. It was as if her heart was incomplete and there was a magnetic pull calling to her; completing her. However no matter how hard she tried, there was no sign of what would complete her. A call of twins that she didn't know of. A past life that was wiped from her memory, yet a soul that completed her own and filled the gap? She couldn't understand it. It was unreal and she had to brush it off on often occasions.
Her chalkboard swayed on her chest with her every movement. A soft sashay that made a scraping noise with each and every bump. Her hand grasping her chalk for dear life. The sword on her back looked larger than she did in comparison, but she didn't care.
Shifting a hand through her brown locks, she found herself sitting down. Her seat was a good distance from people. This allowed her to take a break in peace. Her legs crossed and her green eyes closed to the world. She loved the sudden silence from the world around her. Less angry words in the air and less challenges for who should apologize to who. Her hand gently fixed the flower in her hair and she would pull off her chalkboard to rest the small rectangle on her lap. Sighing contently, she would simply relax for a moment.

There was a scowl on her face as she walked out and about the barracks. It had been a semi long time since she was there and she wasn't too thrilled to be working on day where she'd rather be lazy. Where had she been? No one knows, but she could be mistaken for having fled a training session. Her hair swayed from let to right as she walked with a purpose. This certain section of the hall sure had its fill of people, How annoying, she thought to herself as she had to avoid their bodies. Nothing seemed to be too amusing to her and all she wanted was... Her stomach churned for food. That's right, Rin only wanted some melon bread.
An annoying presence started to arise from the zanpakuto that rested on the hilt on her left side. "Aw,poor Rin. You must be starved!" a voice had said mockingly. Her expression turned more sour at such a comment from an ever so annoying Amatsutori. "Your empty stomach must be the reason why your face is looking so, ugly" His pause and then insult with the word ugly agitated her even more. That just reminded her of that stupid beauty contest in the world of the living, she made a low growl.
The girl just ignored the enflamed spirit before she'd burst and make a scene about something no one else would understand. "You know what? I don't care Amatsutori, and your name is starting to annoy me, so I'll call you Tori."
The spirit chuckled at her reply, "Ooo, ouch. That totally burns, tsssss."
"You annoying bird!" she cringed her teeth and kept walking further till there were little to no people. Still not too ecstatic, she just ignored the spirit. Up ahead she could see a girl, just sitting there with a chalkboard on her lap. Rin walked up to her, she seemed to be resting or relaxing or whatever. "Hey you," she called out to the unfamiliar face. " I've never seen you around here before. Who are you? And what's with the chalkboard, you drawing something?" She asked with a serious and questioning look. It seemed that her bad mood was actually trailing behind her as a bad attitude. Maybe she sounded mean, but she wouldn't have ment too.
[glow=red,2,300]"Hey you! I've never seen you around here before. Who are you? And what's with the chalkboard, you drawing something?" [/glow]
Nyx felt annoyance flood her body. Why of all times did it have to be now? She'd no sooner shut her eyes that a voice called to her attention. The hey you, she had at first assumed was for someone else, but the overall closeness of the voice made her know that it was obviously for herself. Wonderful, she thought as her eyes opened to look at the woman with the piercing green emeralds. Round orbs of distrust and a tinge of exhaustion circling the black pupils that had taken in the form of the woman before her with such questions. A woman with an attitude whom seemed to assume Nyx could draw. Would it be a time to speak to the woman?
Her lips parted but the words never left and instead a soft slip of air fell from her pink curves. Her mouth shut tight and she looked away with brow contorted. Did it LOOK like she was drawing? Such a dumb question. Her mouth pulled into a pout and yet she felt flattered the lady had at least addressed her as a soul being. She wasn't just a member of the squad, she was her own separate person. She had her own dreams and aspirations. Her own longings and needs. Her quivering hand moved to go through with action, but the moment of truth was whether she could admit to being handicapped or not. Such a weakness that she had and yet she was still strong enough to graduate.
Her fingers curving around the chalk, she would move briskly to draw lines upon the board. A moment would pass and she seemed almost as if she had ignored the woman, however her brain was focused. She spilled her thoughts onto the chalkboard. Lines became words, became a sentence and became two sentences. The writing was a bit small, but still legible as she finished the dot of the last period and her body moved, flipping the board so the person could read what she had made.
'Hello, I am Amagane, Nyx. I just graduated from the academy.' She figured the point would come across, given the woman wasn't stupid, that Nyx was a mute. Though her body COULD speak, she simply rather that she didn't in fear of choking on blood or crying from the pain. It was simply unneeded pain she would choose against. Her hands held the board while her eyes watched for the expressions, reactions and anything the woman gave her. A sort of blank look on her own face that showed happiness nor sadness.
Opening her mouth as if to speak, Rin was drawn in a little closer thinking that maybe this girl was shy and might be hard to hear. Air was the only thing that escaped from her and she didn't respond at all. What's with this girl? She changed her mind about answering or something? Well, talk about unfriendly.' The girl instead had snatched up her chalkboard and started to scrible a little somethin somethin. What the? Maybe she's ignoring me... That's pretty harsh.. and to think she'd go straight to that thing.' Rin just watched her with folded arms, she could sense Amatsutori's spirit arising.
Rin already had an actual solution to what she was doing, but knowing Amatsutori he'd just tell her as if she hadn't noticed. He chuckled in her ear as he appeared as a bird on fire. Not much of a pheonix but more of a hawk, the bird peered down to her face from her shoulder. He eyed the girl and then Rin. "You know she's a mute right? Isn't that somethin, a shinigami with a handicap. She won't be able to use her zanpakuto at its fullest with such a problem."
'Shut up, Amatsutori! You're really getting on my nerves today. And you think I don't know that already? Let the mute do her scribbling, and stop annoying me!' The bird then disappeared back into its designated area and finally gave Rin a piece of mind. Her long dark hair, hanging down and almost reaching her butt. Rin was more childish looking than most of them there. Her short size and her usual attitude go right along. Today surely was different though, her mood was so groggy, you'd think she just woke up.
Hello, I am Amagane, Nyx. I just graduated from the academy That's what the sign said as the girl held it up.
"Hmm, so you're a mute huh? Well, nice to meet you. I'm third seat of squad five; Hinote, Rin. You can just call me Rin though." She completely turned herself around and started being friendly when sh. A smile crossed her face, probably because she noticed her very blank face expression. "So, have you always been unable to speak? It must've been tough graduating. I just came back from a long deserved vacation, but it seems my Captain hasn't decided to show herself lately. Have you been placed in a squad yet?" This really wasn't her usual mood, but not like there was anything else to do out there.
Nyx nodded as the woman took to the writing well. It was good that she could read it. Otherwise they would be in trouble. Her hands flipped the board and again she was at it. This time, she was wiping the board clean with her sleeve before checking the woman's words. Her eyes intent and yet the face was without feeling; empty. This girl seemed so sad.. so disdained. She was simply put; unhappy. Then again, few things made her happy. She was in a constant soul-search. A world so large and yet she was so empty.. that feeling of him being near and yet so far away at the same time. Oh how she hated that eternal feeling of being incomplete.
The question was a legitimate one. However the answer was one she was unsure about. When HAD she lost her voice? Since she woke up in soul society, she assumed. The memories were not there and yet they were at the same time. How odd, she couldn't think of a time when she didn't have the inability to talk. How sad... However that wasn't the point.
Her hands created more words that were the results of her handwriting. The words formed and soon she had her next statement. 'It was. I've been mute as long as I can remember.' The lovely white stood out with great contrast upon the black board. The colors made it so much easier to read the beautiful print. Her eyes closed and she sighed again. Well that was quite the day indeed.
This Nyx Amagane girl didn't seem too utterly happy or thrilled or anything positive. She had a sad look to her face and Rin could see that in her. Such negative thoughts and feelings have been floating around a great deal that day. Things had to change, and the churning stomach which craved for food wasn't going to make things any better. A grumbling sound escaped Rin's empty stomach. "Oh don't worry too much about it Nyx. I'm sure you'll just get along fine with everyone here even if you can't talk."
Quickly trying to change the downed mood, Rin thought of the best way to change things -without the use of stealing sake- by going to get some grub. "So Nyx, have you eatened yet? I know I'm starving, some melon bread would be fantastic... " The thought of some freshly cooked bread, warm and oh so lovely soft on the inside with a just right crisp outside. The thought made Rin drool a little, but not being a freakish starving beast, nothing watery came out of her mouth.
Rin gave a smile like she usually does before making up some mischievous plan. It was about time she started creating some havoc around there again and remake a name for herself. "So what do you Nyx? Let's go eat and then maybe I'll introduce you to some friends of mine -if they're still around- and maybe I'll introduce you to sake! But only if ya want, I'm not all about peer pressure or anything. Plus, it's better than just sitting around here acting all emotionless. You should put a smile on your face. It'll help you with getting acquainted with everyone."
Kind of, sort of rushing things. Rin made a complete 360 on her earlier mood. Being such a drag wasn't going to get her anywhere, and moving on to something should get the new Nyx girl more used to the place. Maybe it could even perk up her mood. She thought of the people that were at the barracks that she could introduce Nyx to. So far, a lot of the ones that came up on her mind were either out for missions or in the World if the Living. Today she'll just have to wing it, either meet new old people or drag someone over. Either was fine for her. Dragging was actually more of an exciting thought and she favored that one the most.
Nyx had eyes rimmed with sadness. A hole sat in her heart while she moved her hands to clutch the board into her chest. The lonely thumping that called for someone else. Where were they? Why was she so desperate to find him or her? There was no one there when she reached her arms at night even though there felt there should be. With emeralds for eyes, she looked away before taking a shaky breath. She was being offered food and she couldn't turn it down. Her stomach gurgled a bit while she shifted to her feet. Smiling briefly at the woman she would turn to look around. A quick signing motion from her lips, made a thank you to her. Whether she knew or not, was not something she did notice.
Her eyes found another pair in the corner and they narrowed. What was that. Though at first it seemed to have vanished, the body soon walked over and stared at her before looking away. Her hands moved to write, but he seemed to silently understand her. His hand pressed to the top of her head and he turned an annoyed gaze to the woman Nyx had just met. Though at first he looked as if he would likely attack her, he instead swung his arm slowly inwards to his stomach.
His honey hair fell over his face and the man gave a rather weak smile when straightening. Pain stung in his eyes though a temporary bliss surrounded them. Just for the time, the two felt complete. His voice releasing upon the air a greeting. "Sorry to invade your day like this. I am a friend of Nyx. My name is Aeon, mind if I join you?" His manners were there while he slowly stood back up and earned a true smile from Nyx.
Just like best friends sharing a secret, they smiled at one another, but Aeon's smile was sadder and between the two of them. There was a barrier; a wall of something that had fractured and yet distorted to a point where neither could see through the fog clearly. A tender look and then his eyes were back at Rin. A kindness on him now while he shifted and rested his hand on his blade. There was no sort of attack to be initiating. He simply rested his hand on the hilt out of habit. He patiently awaited the woman's response.
Rin watched as the newcomer just walked right up and went straight to Nyx. She wasn't sure what was going on, but she assumed that they had to have known each other. Especially with that smile on Nyx's face, she must really be at ease with this person. In a way, when Rin looked at the both of them standing there; they seemed as if they could be related...
The guy introduced himself as a friend of Nyx's and it seemed that he hit himself as he bowed. I'm always meeting the ones with the ones with the loose screws huh? she thought sarcastically though if her best friend was there she would've just have said that out loud. It was time Rin learned some self control on her comments.
"Of course you can join us-" not that you havn't already invited yourself... "- I'm Rin, I know some great cooks, but I'm just not sure on where they are. I have a secret stash of melon bread in my barracks though." With these two together and already knowing each other, it made Rin feel sort of like a third wheel to a date. Like what the hell.
(sorry short Nyx seemed rather happy to have Aeon with her. Those green eyes that blazed with a happiness would never end as she caught sight of the young mad whom showed his manners. A sort of thunk when his hand hit his stomach and Nyx shook her head. How silly her friend was that he always looked so uptight as if he were walking on eggshells. His posture upright and never slouched and his eyes a sort of serious tidal wave of anti-social cruelness. He simply looked away from her with annoyance.
Nyx's eyes soon fell upon Rin who seemed rather annoyed to have Aeon join them, but Nyx couldn't understand why. Of course the man was a hard headed and rather brash man, but he had a good head on his shoulders, from what Nyx could tell. A similar energy about them, he was something more, but what was he? Her mind was a bustle of curiosity while Aeon remained in his own world. A sort of blank look on his face and yet internally the conversation never ended. "Lead the way." He said quickly as his eyes closed and opened upon Rin. "Also pretend I'm not even here." Though Nyx frowned, he looked away as if he had just told the woman not to talk to him.
