With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
It was around what would be considered "dinner time". Izaya had been snoozing quietly until he had rolled over onto what used to be his right arm. They had stopped the bleeding but could not take out the tenderness of what had been a pretty extensive wound. He had shot up and almost screamed. He would have too, had it not been for a crushing pain in his midsection.
"This has not been my week."
He let out a small sigh. There was only one good thing about waking up. It was almost time for Kin to show up. That would be good. Someone to talk to would help the time pass. No, that was a lie he was telling himself. He actually wanted to see her. No, he really wanted to see her.
Tucked under her arm was a small box with a neat little bow. In her other arm, she carried a small sketchpad and case of charcoal. Dinner would be whatever the hospital was serving, but Kin had something better. She said she would get mochi, and she did! The best part? Some of it was dipped in chocolate, and some of it was dipped in caramel. Some of it was dipped in green tea - which was a little strange, but tasted good.
She had also figured out where Izaya's sword was...but it was in bad shape. Coincidentally, she found a rather ragged jacket beside it. She brought it with, thinking that it would make a nice placemat.
When she arrived, she could hear Izaya talking.
"This has not been my week," he said, just as Kin burst through the curtains.
"Izaya-kun, I'm back," she said with a grin. "I had to walk a little to get to the place that sells this stuff, but it's really good."
In truth, the candy shop she had stopped at was in the first district, and took very little time to get to. She had been busy filing a report using Izaya's name. Hopefully her handwriting wouldn't be recognized; she didn't know how he wrote.
She popped open the box and tilted it so that Izaya could see - or even take one. She was on his left side, and hopefully by now someone had set his bad arm and hips - though those were significantly harder.
"I have four kinds. Plain, tea, chocolate, and caramel," she explained, pointing at each one as she passed over it.

Kin came in. She seemed...happy. That was great. It was nice to see her all smiles. Another bright side was that she didn't even appear to be faking it. He returned her smile and even gave her a small nod. She then went on to say that she had to walk a little ways which caused him to frown a little.
"Kin-chan, I hope you didn't go out of your way just for me. I'd feel a little bad if you just traversed the Seireitei for me." Come to think of it, he'd never even had moshi. If he didn't like he would feel like an asshole. And frankly, that was just bad. He didn't want to upset or let down Kin.
She popped open the box for him and he peeked inside. He assumed that he could take one after she had pointed out to which were which. Izaya reached in and grabbed one that was called "plain." It was good to play it safe in matters like this. He slowly took a bite and began to chew. Shit, his jaw hurt a little. As he pushed it down with a swallow he really appreciated how sweet this food was. It hurt a little going down, but he was able to smile and bear it. Which reminded him, he hadn't felt pain as he pulled the treat out of the box.
"Hey, they fixed my shoulder. And I think they fixed my hips." He gave a little wiggle and looked at Kin and smiled. Things were actually going his way. For once. She was even sitting near him, which was great. But wait, their was something under her arm. It was black and ragged. Wait...that looked kind of familiar.
"Did you bring my jacket Kin-Chan?" he asked, motioning for his jacket. "Ah, I paid money for this. Crap. Thanks for bringing it though, I appreciate it."
He gave her a small smile. But wait just a second, speaking of things lost.
"Oh come on," Kin laughed as he protested. "I'd have gone by anyways. It's good, y'know?"
She picked out a piece of the chocolate-covered mochi, and set the box down on his bedside table. She laid her charcoal out on the floor, and prepared to start drawing. Before she could, however, Izaya noticed that they fixed his shoulder. Good, she was worried about that.
"Did you bring my jacket, Kin-chan?" Izaya noticed, motioning to it. He smiled, even after he realized that it was ruined. Kin smiled wryly.
"Oh, this? I was going to use it to keep the charcoal off of the floor. But you can have it."
She handed it to him, smiling and hoping he understood that she was joking.
"Did you ever find my Zanpakuto?"
"So nosy," laughed Kin, starting to vaguely sketch a tree on her paper. In fact, she had found his zanpakuto, but she really didn't want to tell him what kind of state it was in, nor where it was. "It's been stowed away safely," she said honestly. It was in a case, somewhere, where it could be repaired eventually. Maybe. "It's in the barracks somewhere."
He offered her a small smile as she ate one of the moshi herself. That was nice; this was nice. It was good that she had dropped by and them eating together was less awkward than he had imagined. He gave a small laugh and flashed her a larger smile than before.
"Oh, this? I was going to use it to keep the charcoal off of the floor. But you can have it."
She handed him his jacket and he lifted it up. Damn, this thing was torn to shreds. He would have to get another one which was just a hassle. Running his hands over it, he closed his eyes and tried to remember where he had gotten it. Shit this was hard. He'd had this thing for years, decades even. Damn. Now he looked at Kin and gave her a small laugh and smile for her joke. He figured it was as such. She had seen him in this jacket often enough for her to know that it was his.
"It's been stowed away safely,"
He sighed. That was good. As long as she knew where it was he could get it when he could get around. He looked down at his legs. Were they messed up too? He remembered pain in them after the blast, but that was about it. Of course, after the blast he had pain everywhere. It was hard to put words to the pain he had experienced then.
"Huh?" Kin grunted as she chewed another piece of mochi. "Oh. The first time, it was four days. You were pretty hurt."
She continued her sketch, resisting the urge to draw two short shinigami standing on either side, swords drawn. It would have been a great picture, she thought, but it wouldn't help Izaya get any better. Instead of sketching the two warriors, she would sketch two people - just regular people - sitting. She was quiet for a little while as she worked, but eventually she had to ask him a question of her own.
"Izaya-kun?" she started, having finished most of the scenery of her drawing and beginning to add the people. "You're feeling better, right?"
It was hard for Kin to make small talk - instead, she tried to ask him how he was feeling. Maybe he was feeling better, and...if he really wasn't, maybe she could try to heal him again. Maybe this time it would be better - he seemed a lot calmer.

Izaya's mouth dropped. Four days? Damn. That was more than half a week. He simply gave her a look and his face said it all. He couldn't believe he had been knocked for four days. But wait, she was there right when he woke up. Was she standing there the whole time? No. That was crazy. She must have been checking on him periodically. But how often? He would have to find out.
"Hey, Kin-chan, how often did you check up on me? I mean, you were right there when I woke up. You had to have been coming back periodically, right? I mean, standing outside the curtain for four days would be crazy."
He laughed a bit at what he considered was a pretty good joke. Izaya had no idea that was what had actually happened. Then she asked him if he was feeling better. Thinking for a second, he admitted that he actually was. Given, the crushing weight of the realization that he may never be a true Shinigami again was suffocating him.
"I'm doing better I suppose. Everything's been relocated. So that just leaves the ribs and the whole, you know, arm thing. Well, those and whatever might be wrong with my legs."
"Eh? I knew when you came in, and I was on duty during the day for the first two days," she recalled, never once looking up from her sketch. She smirked a little. Did he want her to have been checking on him? It had bothered her, but she had decided to steer clear around the third days. "Rinako-san told me I should take a break so I didn't disturb you when you did wake up, but then that happened."
Kin wanted to put down her drawing and take another stab at healing Izaya again, but she had a feeling it wouldn't work if they hadn't already done it. She was quiet, unsure of what to say. She wished that she could just walk out, but if she did she would just look cold. And she wasn't, she really did care.
People were frustrating sometimes.

"Ha, you kind of messed that up a little, didn't you dear? I was up for what, five seconds before you barged in here?"
He offered her a small smile to let her know that he too was joking. Izaya really didn't mind her appearance. On the contrary, it had given him a lot to think about. He thought about why she had pervaded his mind during his assignment. He thought about why she still pervaded his mind.
"Might I ask what you're sketching? It looks pretty from here. Of course, I only know about art from what I've learned from bringing you paper all this time." He laughed and grabbed another moshi. He ate it slowly and really savored it. It hurt going down; then again, that was going to be apart of life for a while. It was really good. He should really thank her for it.
"Kin-chan, thanks for bringing this for me. And, albeit inadvertently, my jacket. It's in rags but I've missed it. I get a little cold in this hospital bed." Then it really began to sink in about how he really felt about her. What would happen if they learned he couldn't do much? Would they make him leave the Seireitei? Would they make him leave Kin? No. They wouldn't. He wouldn't let them.
As he gave her a look, Izaya decided that she was worth whatever trouble he was going to have to go through. He was going to have to get better.
"Well...I heard you talking," she said, rubbing the back of her head. It was a little embarassing - she didn't want him to get the wrong idea. It wasn't like she was waiting near his bed for him to wake up...though her ears twitched each time she heard a noise from his general direction. She smiled and brought her hand back to her drawing. "Spur of the moment...you know?"
"Oh, I'm drawing a tree," Kin answered idly, tilting up the drawing so that Izaya could get a better view. He looked like it hurt a little to swallow, and she wished that there was something more substantial that she could do for him. But if her kido wasn't healing him, there wasn't much that she could do.
She smiled again as he thanked her. There wasn't any need for it. She felt a little guilty for using the mochi as an excuse to get some heads busted, but whoever that Celia woman was, she deserved it.
