With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
It was that time of day again, Roy was taking a bit of a catnap in his office. Folder over his face as he dreamed of the future. A future where his daughter and Makana were happily making him dinner. Makana, wearing a cute apron and his little princess trying her best to help. When Roy entered, flour flew everywhere as his little bean slipped but was caught in his loving embrace. Makana looking silly with the white powder on her head, but was still attractive to Roy. He leaned in for a kiss with daughter in hand and was welcomed with a loving family moment.
It was a dream he's always wanted and will soon achieve it. That is if Makana would accept the ring and answer the question with a yes. Oh the wedding would be beautiful with all his army buddies there, Armstrong as his best man. That day will be coming soon, but when a phone started to ring, Roy was reluctant to wake up.
He reached blindly for the phone, gradually making his way toward it. Only, when he reached it, he slipped out of his chair and onto the floor. The phone landed on his head and he heard the sounds of someone talking. "Hello, Dilandai-sensei? Are you there?"
Why is it that no one can say my name right? Roy thought as he rubbed his head and reached for the phone. Getting up, Roy started to talk. "Yeah, I'm here." The lady in the office was on the phone, he forgot her name, but she was a nice little bitty. She was calling to inform him that Toshioni's mother, Kyu, was here. "Alright, just call Toshioni to my office and I'll get this meeting under way."
He started to pick up some of his papers and try to organize his office. He had to make an impression on this woman, even if he was in a relationship with Makana. She'd kill him if she knew he had set up a meeting with a single mother. She would jump to conclusions but in the end, Roy would be forgiven after a slap or two.
There, his office was at least presentable by the time it took Toshioni to meet his mother in the hall outside his office.
-Clap, clap, clap- The unfamiliar sound of heels hitting the tile floor in Karakura High School rang throughout the halls. Kyu walked from the office to where the lady had told her the counselor's office was. Her brown hair was tied into a bun and her thin glasses were still on. She tried not to wear them when around Toshioni but she had no choice. She had been right in the middle of paperwork over a case she had just completed and she got rather rudely interrupted. Wearing a look of pure annoyance, Kyu let out a small sigh of disappointment.
Toshioni was always in trouble for something or another it seemed. He'd almost got suspended several times and he practically lived in detention. Why couldn't he just behave? It'd been years since his father's death, was he still hung up on it? She thought about how little she actually knew about her own son and that thought about depressed her. Did he honestly feel responsible for what happened? Was that what this was all about? Was he trying to mask all that pain?
Either way, as she neared the room that was the domain of the school counselor she thought about how awkward she must look in her business attire. From the waist up, she looked to be wearing a man's suit. This was offset by the knee-length skirt that she wore and the moderate-sized bust that laid under the business suit. When she got to the door, her briefcase hit it due to the swinging motion of her arms. She thought for a second and decided she could go in. Kyu knew what this would amount to. They would tell her about what Toshioni had done, ask her why she wasn't a very good parent, and she'd have to try to talk him out of a suspension.
She opened the door and walked in. Her eyes locked on the counselor for a second. He was rather young, and she figured she would be what some might call attractive. Then she took a look around his office and saw how hastily it seemed to have been cleaned. No, he was not the kind of person she wanted to associate with too much. However, she kept a kind face and motioned towards a chair. "May I have a seat?"
Toshioni had gotten called out of class. Great, another distraction to interrupt his learning. Of course, he was working on a drawing anyway so it wasn't that bad at all. His small messenger's bag bounced almost joyfully against his leg. Shooting a rather stern look at it, it stopped its obnoxious bouncing and just kind of stayed there. He neared the office of Dylandy-sensei and saw that the door was open. Wait, was his mother here?
Nearing the office, he peeked around the corner and saw what appeared to be his mother in the office. She usually wasn't wearing business skirts or shirts around him. She typically wore her brown hair down and since when did she have glasses? He entered the room with a little flair of Toshioni as he tried to show his mother that he wasn't in trouble this time. Without being asked, he slid into a chair that was sat on the opposite side of Dyalandy-sensei's desk. He shot a look at Roy and then glanced up at his mother. This would be a long meeting.
Roy watched as the stunning beauty that was Kyu enter his office. He was in deep trouble if Makana came in. The woman was in business attire, tied bun, and glasses. She had to wear glasses. Glasses were a thing with Roy, it was one of the things that got his attention when he first met Makana. This was going to be a long meeting.
"Please, by all means." Roy gave her a charming smile, did he have another? It was at this time that Toshioni made his appearance, a sort of smug look on his face as if he weren't in trouble. For the most part, he wasn't, but we'll be getting to that soon. "Good, right on time Mr.Sarungekki." Roy took a seat himself, sitting behind the desk he had finished organizing.
For a moment of silence, Roy just sat in his chair a looked over Toshioni's file. He had read it time and time again since the meeting he missed. Regardless of the atmosphere, Roy was calm and collected. He can tell that the two of them had a slightly strained relationship, most likely due to the untimely death of Toshioni's father.
As he looked in his file, one can see things around his office to see more of who Roy is. A picture of his unit during a successful mission in Kuwait. He was the one holding a sniper rifle next to the shirtless muscle builder man he call Armstrong. Then came some pens in a cup and a small display box holding the Irish Medal of Honor. On the walls were some diplomas from various schools, an Irish flag in a shadow box, and a book shelf with several books on psychology, history, and teen behavior.
Finally, Roy shot both of them a look before he started to talk. "Care for some coffee Mrs.Sarungekki? Or maybe some water?" He shot her a smile as he got up to where his coffee machine was brewing. It was a strong Irish blend that flew in the air as he poured himself a cup. He wouldn't offer Toshioni any, kids shouldn't be drinking the stuff anyways.
Kyu smiled slightly as she sat down in a chair and looked around the man's office. He seemed to be a veteran of some sort as there was a picture of him with a military unit of some sorts. Her eyes continued to browse his room. He won some kind of award. Leaning forward a bit, she saw that it was the Irish Medal of Honor. As she continued to look around, she saw that this man seemed to hail from Ireland. As she thought about it, it was pretty obvious. His last name was Dylandy, after all.
She turned as her son entered the room with a certain air about him. Maybe he wasn't in trouble. When something like this happened he tended to know he had done wrong and at least seemed to acknowledge wrongdoing. Now he just seemed confident. Their eyes locked and Toshioni could only really think of how badly this could go. He then slid into his own seat beside his mother who gave him a reassuring pat on the arm.
They both sat in silence as Roy quickly thumbed through of what was most likely Toshioni's file. Kyu sat perfectly still and simply studied the room. Toshioni would not sit so still. He began to tap his foot and drum on his knees playfully while he turned his head to study the office. He was nervous; the urge to blow-up and vanish was becoming greater and greater. He changed his mind; he didn't know if he wanted to do this anymore.
"Care for some coffee Mrs.Sarungekki? Or maybe some water?"
"Oh, no thank you. I just had lunch and am quite hydrated, Dylandy-san."
He placed the coffee pot down and stirred some sugar in his cup as he walked back to his seat. He took a sip, it wasn't like real Irish coffee but it was the closest the Japanese can offer. Letting out a slight sigh of caffeine relief as the elixir woke him up for this meeting. "So, I suppose we should get down to business." Roy suggested as he picked up Toshioni's file once again.
He flipped through it once again, to make sure he got everything he needed. Placing it down, Roy took another sip of coffee before he started to talk again. "I'm sure you are aware that Toshioni as gotten in trouble in the past and I'm positive that other teachers would place the blame on you, but I will not do that." He was addressing this toward Kyu, reassuring her that it was not her fault.
"I believe that he as potential but lacks motivation. In fact, his art work seems to have gotten much better, I think I have that a teacher confiscated..." He started to rummage through his desk draw to find some of the art that Toshioni had 'lost' by teacher hands. He thought maybe Toshioni would protest at his mother seeing some his more graphic art.
He found of the ones that didn't have a naked girl on it, but a girl none the less. Roy handed it to Kyu as he lifted himself slightly off his chair. Sitting back down, he continued to speak while Kyu looked at the picture. "I think if we get Toshioni in an activity that gets him to focus, then he'll learn to focus on his other classes. Maybe archery?" That was a subtle hint at where he was going with this meeting. Toshioni would certainly pick up on it and Kyu may be a bit suspicious.
Toshioni looked at his mother. This was the part where he typically got ignored. Every time adults got down to business it meant that children should be "seen and not heard". He sent Dylandy-sensei a rather annoyed look to try to convey not to ignore him in this venture. After all, this whole thing was about him. Kyu, on the other hand, tensed up a little. This was typically the part where it was explained what he had done wrong and what she should do to "be a better parent." Frankly, she was tired of stuff like that; but, she really couldn't do anything about it. Toshioni pretty much took care of himself and other than that she really couldn't ask him for much. So many parents pushed their kids to the point of breaking. He made good grades, fed himself, didn't ask for too much. What more could she ask for?
"I'm sure you are aware that Toshioni as gotten in trouble in the past and I'm positive that other teachers would place the blame on you, but I will not do that."
"Thank you Dyalndy-san. I would like to know, what is this about?" Kyu looked genuinely concerned. It typically didn't take this long for the crime to be listed extensively. Generally he said something crude to some little girl and got a lecture concerning "boundaries." All he really needed was one girl to set him straight. But, with his personality, finding one would prove to be difficult. She wanted to set him up with her friend's daughter, but that didn't work out. Oh well, someday he would find someone willing to put up with stand by him.
"I believe that he as potential but lacks motivation. In fact, his art work seems to have gotten much better, I think I have that a teacher confiscated..."
Toshioni quickly reddened and looked at the floor. He had always managed to get out of having his smut shown to his mother. Damn, his Dylandy-sensei really going to do this to him. He shot him a death glare that simply seemed to scream "TRAITOR!" He couldn't face his mother now. Ever. Kyu, shot a small glance at her son who seemed rather embarrassed. What was it that he drew?
She looked at the picture and saw it was a drawing of a girl. She was dark-skinned with dark hair and very pretty eyes. She seemed to be dressed in some kind of western attire and her face almost had a cold look about her. Her son, was staring at the picture and then shot an apologetic smile to Dylandy-sensei. He wasn't all that bad. He had drawn that picture for that Native American girl...shit, what was her name? He had never got it and had never known it.
Smiling at her son, Kyu was simply glad it wasn't obscene or morbid. He had simply drawn a girl. Perhaps he had liked to impress her with his artwork. She had to admit it was extremely good. "Toshioni, who is this girl?"
"I don't know her name, but I met her once."
"I think if we get Toshioni in an activity that gets him to focus, then he'll learn to focus on his other classes. Maybe archery?"
Toshioni looked up at Roy and smiled slyly. He saw what the counselor had done there. He was dropping little hints that would be ensued with the Quincy talk. He hoped his mother would pick up on this hint. Kyu shot a quick glance at Toshioni and was completely mortified by him doing anything of that manner. She had no clue that the counselor already knew about him being a Quincy and just assumed that this could expose their secret.
An answer he thought she might say, which is why he brought it up in the first place. He even saw how Toshioni smiled when he brought the subject up, he could work with that. "He doesn't? Have you ever tried it Toshioni?" This time directly asking the source of the meeting. Surely Toshioni was clever enough to figure out where Roy was going with this.
"I learned how to hold a bow when I was half Toshioni's age. I didn't like it at first, but I learned many things about myself behind that bow." It was during time that he learned that he had abilities. It was also after this that he lost them and found his teacher.
That man taught him so many things. He taught him the way of the Quincy, he taught him history, and he taught him forgiveness. This was the reason that Roy even thought about tutoring Toshioni in the same way. It would be a long hard road but Roy was positive that Toshioni would benefit from it. A strong male role model would also help Toshioni out, as Roy read he lacked one at the time.
Kyu physically reddened in her frustration. She didn't understand that this man already knew what they were. She hadn't been clued in that the cat was out of the bag. She was trying so adamantly to keep their secret. She figured Toshioni was at least trying to make it not common knowledge. A small frown crossed her face and she glanced at Toshioni to see his reply. She hoped he would simply say he had and didn't like it. That might end the conversation.
"I've never really tried. It looks fun though." He shot a warm look at his mother. The young Quincy tried to convey that it was okay for her to let her guard down with this. Kyu, however, did not see this and simply looked dumbstruck towards her child. She could not believe what he just did. She became so consumed in it that she didn't hear Roy's talk of his time with a bow. That was a hint within itself that she didn't have to worry. Toshioni gave a small smile at the counselor for his comment. He had hoped she'd picked up the hint but wasn't for sure. His mother was hard to read sometimes.
"I really don't think Toshioni should be playing with things like bows and arrows. They're dangerous and such."
Seeing that she went all red with what Roy can only assume to be frustration, he decided to just out and say why this meeting was really about. He let out a sigh, brushed his curly hair away from his face, and looked at Kyu. "I suppose I should just come out and say it." Leaning back into his chair, Roy did not want it to seem that he did all this to annoy her. It was not his intention to get her this frustrated, perhaps it would have been better if Toshioni had told his mother that Roy knew about the two of them.
"I know about Toshioni's 'special' gift. I myself am a Quincy." Roy lifted up his right wrist to show where he wore his cross. A decorative Irish cross variant of a traditional Quincy cross, but if one were to look closely they could see the pentacle woven in the knot like pattern that made of his cross.
He waited a moment for Kyu to add things together. She probably would have some questions for Roy and Toshioni. Such questions as to how Roy found out about them, what was Toshioni doing at the time when Roy found out, and maybe even an accusation as to playing coy with her.
He hoped that she wouldn't get violent, Makana has made him wary of certain women.
Toshioni inhaled deeply; this was it. He shot a quick glance at his mother and then fixated his stare on Roy. He drummed on his legs halfheartedly and let out a small exhale. Kyu, on the other hand was utterly confused. She didn't know where this going because she didn't quite understand everything fully yet. However, she didn't speak up because she knew that the conversation would work its way there.
"I know about Toshioni's 'special' gift. I myself am a Quincy."
The young Quincy tried to get as small as possible. He knew what was coming. His mother simply looked over at him. She glared down at him with a look of utter disappointment. How could he have let this man find about them? How could this have happened?
"Son, what did you do?"
"Nothing!"
She shot her glare over at Roy. What the hell was his game? No...calm down. She steadied herself. This wasn't all his fault but he could've warned her.
"Dyaldny-san, why didn't you tell me before hand? I would have liked to have known this earlier."
