Name: Yumiko Umeki
Actual Age: 278
Appearing Age: 27
Yumiko stands at about 5'6", being a bit taller than most girls in soul society. Her eyes are the same as her hair, pink as could be. She is beautiful with shorter eyelashes and a small rounded nose. Her eyes are almond shaped, and her lips are bright red, which really stands out compared to her eyes and hair. She has a shorter neck, which is normally covered by her hair. Her hair goes down to about mid chest and is normally wrapped around to her front. The hair in the back is split along the right side, making a majority of her hair on the left side. She has larger breasts, being around size c to d, but normally is covered from her hair, or at least her cleavage is.
She wears the same ol' stuff all shinigami wear, except she has a pink matsuri coat that is tied in the front. On the back it has her clan's crest, which looks like a tsunami in the happening in a circle. The tie that ties it closed is white with a single pink strip in the middle, going around. She also has a tattoo with her clan's crest on her left ankle. She wears a sky blue bracelet on right wrist, which was given to her by her older brother. Her sword is hung from her shoulder, with the hilt pointing up from her right shoulder. The strap that holds her sword in place is sky blue, just like the bracelet. The strap runs right in between her breasts, splitting them apart a bit. Her sandals are lighter than most sandals seen, being more of a light tan rather than a darker tan or brownish color.
Yumiko is a happy-go-lucky type of girl, who loves to do nothing more than tease everyone. Teasing people is the most fun, especially seeing how some react to it. She's quite the smart ass, but she still seems to do it despite liking someone. She hardly ever gets mad, majority of the time she will just make a smart ass remark instead of getting mad or upset. People who are close to her normally get to her when they say something, normally serious of course. If she knows they are joking, than she will smart off to them.
The other thing Yumiko loves is her drinks! She loves to drink sake by a body of water. She likes visiting the hot springs for this reason. Really, she will drink anywhere! When Yumiko has had a little to much to drink, she starts getting rosy red cheeks and off balance. She also likes to take off her matsuri when she is drunk, which, if not covered by her hair, reveals her cleavage. One other thing she does when she is wasted is flirts with everyone, men and women alike, and she also seems less like a smart ass after a few drinks.
Her time around Izaya has brought her a new level of seriousness. This only really applies to her work, but if something needs to be serious, she can act accordingly. She usually likes to keep things light and playful. Work now comes first, whether or not she is actually doing it is beyond the question. Maybe one day, in the future, she will actually take her work with complete seriousness, but that day is far off.
Lastly, Yumiko loves being around water. She feels so natural when she is around water, which is probably why she loves drinking near water. She loves swimming and having water gun/balloon fights. When she is around water, she is more outgoing than she normally is, seeing as she is a smart ass when she isn't around water. Water is just her element, it comforts her to no end, and if she ever got down in the dumps about something, she would just go take a trip to a lake or something and she'd be fine.
Yumiko has developed a state of mind in which pain is a good thing. This had begun from an encounter with her friend, Izaya, who at the time of this was also in a sort of crazed state. This masochistic part of her has grown to the point where when she was cut by a sword she actually enjoyed it, though she passed out from loss of blood. Her new found love for pain will either aid her in battle, getting her excited and ready to go, or be very bad, to the point where she doesn't attack, just takes hits, just to get that pain "high". This does not make it to where she will get any sort of boost in strength or anything of the sort. This is simply another part of her personality that has come into light.
I-Birth and Early Childhood
Yumiko was born into a semi-wealthy family of Soul Society. They lived in the 7th district of the Rukongai, where they were the richest family in the district. On May 15, the mother of the family gave birth to Yumiko, the second child, first born girl. They noted her irregular colored hair and eyes and knew she was something special. Around the appearing age (or 5 years for shinigami) of six months, she began walking and forming words. Another five years and she could speak full sentences. At the appearing age of 2, she was able to communicate with her family, although she did not understand everything, she still tried. She also began running, which she was very quick. At the age of four, the began teaching her with a private tutor, and she began running a lot more. At the appearing age of 5, some strange men had come by the house. They were dressed in black and little Yumiko did not know who they were! They talked to her brother, and that night he came to talk to her...
"Yumiko, come here. I need to talk to you."
She wondered over to her big brother and he began to explain what was going on. He told her that he was going away for a while. He was going to be a shinigami! They had invited him just to be one! She began to cry... She didn't want him to go, she loved her brother! He grabbed her hand and placed a bracelet on her wrist. It was adjustable, so it could become bigger and smaller. It was a sky blue color and it was shiny, like brand new shiny! She sniffled as she tried to stop crying.
"Now, you need to be strong for mom and dad. They need you, I need you too, and I know that you'll do great even while I'm gone. Now, take this bracelet and keep it safe for me... I will be getting it back when I do come back now!" Her brother laughed and stood up. He gently rubbed her head and walked out of the room... Leaving her there by herself.
Yumiko laid down in her bed and looked at the bracelet. She would do as her brother asked, she wanted him to be happy, even if he had to go to do it. She kept a hold of it for a long time.
One day, Yumiko was walking with her father through the Rukongai when they were held up at knife point. The man with the knife asked for all their money and jewelry, which is when he saw the bracelet and took it! He escaped before anyone could help them.
Another 20 years went by, and Yumiko was now seven. She had learned much in the last years, but she did not find the man who took her brother's bracelet from her! Her parents decided that it was time to teach her about the shinigami. She learned about what they do and how they do it, and told her that her brother had went to be one. He wouldn't be back unless he was relieved from duty, which probably wouldn't happen. So the only way for her to be able to see her brother again was to either become a shinigami, or for him to have a mission near by, which were both kinda far off. After learning these things, she decided not to look for the bracelet for a while, and she would continue to study...
II- Childhood & Early Adolescence
Yumiko was now eight! Or rather looked eight, she was actually eighty now. But this was besides the point. She now had friends around the area, of course they were limited due to the influence of her family. She had two main friends, Azumi and Mamoru, who she always played with. Azumi was a few years younger where as Mamoru was a few years older. Originally, Yumiko and Azumi were friends before they ever met Mamoru, but when they did, they always made fun of Mamoru.
Azumi was about the same height as Yumiko at this point in her life. Her hair was a golden blonde color with green eyes. She was a lot like Yumiko, although she was a trickster, which Yumiko never really liked, but she dealt with it cuz Azumi was her friend. Mamoru was taller than the two and a bit dumber, which is why they always picked on him. He had short black hair with brown eyes, nothing special. He was always the more serious one, but when he was around the other two he was not very serious, as if they brought out the inner child of him.
One day, Yumiko and Mamoru went to go meet up with Azumi at the lake that was somewhat near the district they lived in. When they got there they noticed that Azumi wasn't even there yet! Even though she said she was going to met them there. Maybe they were early? Maybe they were late? Or! Or, maybe Azumi hadn't even made it there yet! Mamoru grabbed a couple of rocks and started skipping them across the water. Yumiko struck up a conversation!
"Mamo, where do you think Zumi is? We have been here for an hour, where could she be?" Yumiko was worried about her friend, it was obvious.
"Miko, don't worry about it! You know she's late all the time, this is no different." Mamoru tried cheering up Yumiko.
"This IS different! She said she'd be here when we got here and she isn't here! What if something bad happened?" Yumiko asked. She knew that this wasn't like Azumi! Azumi liked playing tricks, but this wasn't even one of those times! Where could Azumi be?!
"Help meeee!!!" A scream could be heard from a ways away. Mamoru and Yumiko looked over to where it came from and saw Azumi running from a large man. The first thing that Yumiko noticed was a bracelet... Not just any bracelet, but her brothers!
"Zumi! Over here!" Mamoru ran towards the man and Azumi. He ran past Azumi and used his shoulder to knock the man off balance, causing him to fall on his butt. Then Mamoru ran back over to where Yumiko and Azumi were. "You alright Zumi?" he asked with a worried face.
"Yeah. I'm sure glad you guys were here! Who knows what that creep mighta dun to me!" Azumi smiled and gave Mamoru a hug. She looked past him and saw the man getting back up. She pointed at him and said, with a comically scared face, "H-he's getting back up!"
The man stomped over to the three. Mamoru tried punching him, but the man caught it and threw Mamoru to the ground. The man extended his arm out towards Azumi, and Yumiko wasn't having it! She ran up and bit the man's arm. The man swung his arm around with Yumiko stilled attached, then ended up launching her into the lake, along with the broken bracelet that had gotten broken by Yumiko. As he was about to get Azumi, another man put his hand on the first man's should.
"I think you ought to leave these kids alone."
The first man turned and looked at the wealthy looking man. His eyes widened and he ran off, not wanting to deal with this second man. He spoke to the two that were still there.
"Azumi, Mamoru, are you two alright? And where is Miko?" The man helped Mamoru up.
Mamoru pointed to the lake. "Mr. Umeki! We're fine, but Yumiko got thrown into the lake! You gotta help her!" Mamoru was frazzled at this point. He was afraid Yumiko was going to drown!
Yumiko's dad reacted to the boy saying this and ran to the edge of the water. He jumped in without hesitation, wanting to save his daughter. After about a minute of being under, he arose from the water, Yumiko in hand. He laid her on the ground and watched her breathing. She began coughing and looked around when she was done. "Wh-what happened?" She asked.
"You're fine hunny, let's go home. Mamoru, Azumi, I'm sorry, but Yumiko needs to go home with me. Mr. Umeki walked away with Yumiko. Mamoru and Azumi ended up leaving as well.
Years passed, and Yumiko became distant from her two friends. This was due to the fact that she didn't want to go out and get hurt again. Around the age of 10, Mamoru and Azumi had come over to get Yumiko for a trip to the lake. At first Yumiko didn't wanna go, but her dad told her she should. So, she went with the two to the lake.
At the lake, Yumiko didn't get close to the water, she was afraid of going under and not being able to come back the next time this happened. While they sat there, Mamoru told Yumiko the story, not knowing if she had remembered, which she hadn't. Upon hearing the story, and figuring out that her brother's bracelet could be at the bottom, she made a decision. She decided that she would go for it.
Yumiko was about to jump in when she heard her dad holler for her. It was time to go home, and Yumiko sighed. She told Mamoru and Azumi that when they get a chance, they would come back, and Yumiko would go get the bracelet.
As another few years went by, Yumiko aged a bit more, turning 13. She was still learning lots of new things, and even more about the shinigami. Her two friends visited her again, and they talked. She told them about the shinigami and what they did. Then, they decided to take that trip to the lake, the fateful trip to retrieve the bracelet.
While at the lake, they stood before the water. Yumiko gulped as she looked over the water. "This is it. I'm going to get my brother's bracelet back!" Yumiko jumped in and started to swim to the center of the lake. She gave her friends a thumbs up and dove down. It was dark... and cold... but she continued to dive down, going deeper and deeper until she could see the bottom. She looked around for a moment. She started to lose her breath when she saw it! Now was a decision, get it and risk dying or going back up and risk losing it forever. Yumiko thought for a second, and decided that she would go for it. She dove down towards it. Her vision began to blur as she reached for it. Everything went black! Yumiko drifted in the darkness for what seemed like years till she saw a light. She tried moving towards it, but the darkness sucked her back in!
Slowly her eyes opened. She couldn't see anything at the moment, it was all a blur from the light and from the pure air reaching her eyes. She blinked and rubbed her eyes trying to regain her vision. Once her vision had returned she saw Mamoru above her, soaked as if he had gone swimming... Wait did he save her? That's what it looked like! And that's what it was! It was a shock to her, she thought she would of made it out by herself, but for some reason, she didn't remember anything after grabbing the bracelet... WAIT! The bracelet?! Where did it go?! Yumiko sat up quickly and looked around.
"Miko! Careful there, I don't want you to pass out again..." Mamoru expressed his care for his friend.
"I... I don't care! Where is the bracelet?! I need to know it made it back with me!" Yumiko desperately wanted to have her brother's bracelet back. She held it dear because it was the only thing she had left from him.
Azumi held it up and grinned. "Righttt hereee! You almost dropped it while Mamo was getting you out, but I grabbed it for ya!" Azumi placed the bracelet into Yumiko's hand. Yumiko couldn't help but smile. She was so happy to have it back!
III-Adolescence & Early Adulthood
Years and years had gone by now, and now, Yumiko was only friends with Mamoru, seeing as how Azumi had left to become a shinigami. She was younger, but felt it had to be done. This left Mamoru and Yumiko to be their own group. Weird though that everyone she knew decided to go there to be a shinigami. Would Mamoru be next?? She wouldn't know till later. As for now, the young Yumiko was now 16! And she had begun to learn about controlling reishi. Actually, she had learned everything she could about becoming a shinigami, hell, it was probably the only way she'd see her brother and Azumi again! Everyday after she was done studying, she would go to the lake with Mamoru. They would sit and talk about anything, everything, and the life ahead of them. Mamoru wanted to be wealthy. It was always a dream of his, and seeing as how he had nothing else he could do, that was what he was going to try. Yumiko wanted to become a shinigami, why else then to see her brother and Azumi? Besides, she had to give the bracelet back to her brother, when she got a chance. They were talking about this by the lake one day...
"I told ya! I don't wanna be a shinigami. All the do is hurt the innocent..." Mamoru was upset about this subject. This was due to the fact that his parents were killed by shinigami. Or this was what was shown to him and what he had believed.
Yumiko sighed. "Mamo... You gotta let go of that stuff sometime! Look at Zumi, she did, you can too! I'ma drag you with me to go sign up! You need to get over it! Zumi would want you to, I want you to... Why can't you?" Yumiko wanted him to want the same kind of thing she wanted, to become a shinigami and do something different, but Mamoru just wasn't having it.
"Miko, I think I'ma go for the night... I'll she you tomorrow, kay?" Mamoru got up and started walking off.
"Jeez! Don't get your panties in a bundle! Wait... Mamo! I was kidding! Crap..." Yumiko started being a smart ass here, and it would continue on to be part of who she is. Mamoru wasn't even really upset, he was just done with the subject. He ignored everything Yumiko was saying as he walked off to his place. Yumiko frowned. Well, guess she would just see him tomorrow.
The next day, Yumiko made her way to the lake. She looked around, and Mamoru wasn't there. Where could of he gone? This isn't like him at all. Then, Yumiko heard a familiar voice...
"Miko! Heeeeey!!" it was Azumi! And, she was accompanied by Mamoru! What a day for a reunion!
"Zumi! Mamo?! Why weren't you here already?!" She questioned Mamoru as soon as he got there. Sure, Azumi was there, but Mamoru was late! What excuse would he possibly have?
"Sorry Miko... Zumi here dropped by last night. We stayed up all night, talking about her experience... Then we fell asleep... And then I realized I was late! Zumi insisted that we walk though, so I walked here, and that is why I was la-" Before Mamoru could finish his last sentence, Yumiko smacked him up side the head.
"You know, you should really fulfill your commitments! Had me all worried for nothing! Anyway... Zumi! How are you?" Yumiko walked away from Mamoru and gave Azumi a hug. She had missed her old friend.
"Well, I'm fine." Azumi said, then went on to explain everything that had happened to herself while being a student then while she was in her first squad, and so on. They spent all afternoon talking, laughing, being the group they used to be before Azumi left. Then, it was time to go. The bid each other farewell, and went their separate ways.
Yumiko was sitting in her room one day when her parents called her down. She came down, and there stood Mamoru, all dressed up and with all his luggage. After so many years, they stopped hanging out after a minor argument, and now, Mamoru was back to tell Yumiko something...
"Yumiko... I am so glad to see you before I leave. You see, I decided to do what you suggested, and become a shinigami. I just wanted to tell you good bye and that I'll see you there." Mamoru smiled and placed his hand on Yumiko's head, trying to comfort her.
"I guess I will see you there..." A tear rolled down Yumiko's cheek. She was upset that her only friend left was leaving. Guess this was it, she was the last one to join of her friends and family. After they exchanged their words, Mamoru left. Yumiko returned to her room and went straight to bed.
Yumiko had turned 19 and she still went to the lake, even if it was by herself now. She sat there looking over the water and then looking at her brother's bracelet, then back out over the lake. She missed everyone, but she was glad they all were doing something great! Well, maybe it was time for a swim. Yumiko jumped into the lake and started to swim around, just exercising and having some fun by herself. This is where her love for water grew, and she became attached to water.
Once Yumiko turned 21, she took up drinking! She loved her new past time, drinking everyday and every night! Her parents didn't seem to mind seeing as she always made her way home and back into bed. Even when she didn't come home at night, she would in the morning. This is where she got her favorite thing to do, besides be a smart ass. Well, when drunk she was ten times more of a smart ass, or at least tried to be. One day she woke up and looked around. She heard the door, and went to grab it. Opening the door she found a shinigami standing there. He handed her a letter then walked away. Yumiko opened the letter and read it. Apparently, she was to go take the test to be entered into the Shinoreijutsuin! This was her time, her turn to become a shinigami! She went and packed her stuff, tell her parents about it, then she took off.
IV-Entering the Shinoreijutsuin
Yumiko walked up to the doors of the Shinoreijutsuin. As the doors opened, she discovered that this test, was no normal test, it was a difficult test to take indeed. There were many people who were there to take it, many the second or third time! This must be a really hard test if people continue to fail it, right? Well, Yumiko would find out shortly, it was almost her turn.
"State your name." The man said looking down at his papers.
"Yumiko Umeki!" Yumiko said loudly, making sure her name was heard!
"Alright, we will begin the test shortly." The man said and pointed to a room behind him.
Yumiko entered the room that was pointed out. Hours, and hours later, Yumiko emerged, tired and beat down. Others that had emerged before her with student robes in their hands, but she did not have them. Had she failed?! What was to become of her?! She went over to the man who had directed her into the room.
"So... How long till I can come back and take it again?" Yumiko asked with a tear in her eye.
"Next week we will be holding another test, come back then." The man spoke without a care that Yumiko had just failed and had her dreams crushed.
Yumiko made the trip all the way back home, but before she actually got there, she stopped by the lake. She sat at the edge with her feet in the water. Tears rolled down her face. This was the ultimate defeat. It crushed almost everyone of Yumiko's dreams! The dream to be a shinigami, the dream to meet back up with her brother, the dream to catch up with her friends... Everything had be ruined by that stupid test! Yumiko threw a rock into the water. As the water rippled, it helped her feel a bit calmer. She took a few deep breaths, then decided to dive in!
She returned to the surface and felt a slight smile. The water was definitely making her feel better! She got out, soaked, and started to walk home. On her way, a man approached her.
"Hey little missy, what are you doing out so late all by yourself?" The man was grinning. He had something devious planned.
"I was just on my way home. Thanks for your concern." Yumiko rolled her eyes and spoke with a sarcastic tone of voice.
"Oh it isn't a problem. Now, I had a slight problem, I was hoping you could help me missy."
Yumiko didn't say a word. She turned towards the man, walked closer and placed her hand on his shoulder. She smiled at the man. "I'd be glad to get help for you."
"Wait a minute... Get he-"
Before the man could even finish, Yumiko's knee was in the man's groin. The man gasped a few times then hit the ground. Yumiko turned around and walked off, back to her parent's place.
A week has passed, and it was now time for Yumiko to go and retake the test. It would be difficult, but she had to do it this time. And if she didn't, she'd keep trying!
She arrived at the same place as before. The man at the table with the papers look up and checks her name off, without either of them saying a word, and points at the same room as before. Yumiko nods, and enters the room.
Multiple hours pass, and out comes a triumphant and satisfied Yumiko, holding a pair of student robes in her hands. She walked over to the same man as before. He looked up and pointed behind him. Two large doors stood before her. They opened, a light shinning through, to reveal a courtyard with a lot of different people, all holding the robes she was holding. She walked over to one girl who was standing all alone. She was around Yumiko's height, with long dark red hair and brown eyes.
"Hi there! I'm Yumiko." Yumiko introduced herself to the girl.
The girl smiled. "Hi! I'm Nobuko. I just got accepted, how about you?"
Yumiko smiled and nodded. Before she could say anything else the senior class students stood at a balcony. "Welcome! Welcome! I am Atsushi Daichi, the top of the sixth year guys. I am here because I was told to brief you guys, and show you to your rooms. But, I'm just gonna brief you guys, I'll have the fifth year guys take you to your rooms. Now then, shall we begin?" The man on the balcony went on and on, about an hour later he was done. After he was done, about a dozen people came out to each of them. There was around 30 or so new inductees, so there was around two to three to a person.
"Ms. Umeki, Ms. Hayashi, this way please." Mamoru came up from behind Yumiko and Nobuko. "I will be showing you two to your room." he gave a slight smile and turned around. He began to walk out of the courtyard.
"Yes." Nobuko nodded and followed Mamoru.
"Mamo..." Yumiko was stunned to see him, but realized that they were leaving without her. "Crap!" She ran to catch up with them.
A few minutes of walking and they had arrived at their destination. A mid-sized room with two beds in it. It had one little nightstand with a candle on it.
"So, this is the room you two are assigned to. Is there anything else I can help you with?" Mamoru asked, putting his hands behind his back.
"No, thank you sir." Nobuko smiled and walked into the room.
"Mamo, what are you doing? Why are you being used like this?"
"Yumi... I'm not being used, I volunteered. I had a feeling you'd be here and I'd get to see you. Besides, next year is my last year. So, I should be going, it was good seeing you." Mamoru smiled and patted Yumiko on the head before leaving.
Yumiko looked down to the ground then walked into the room. She went straight to her bed and fell asleep.
It seemed like days, months had passed! Because they have! Roughly a year had gone by, and Yumiko was doing well in her classes. She wasn't the best, but she wasn't the worst. Her roommate, Nobuko even complimented her on it a few times. The year had gone smoothly, and so would the next few years, up to about year five.
It was now year five, and Yumiko was beginning to struggle. Mamoru had already graduated, and Nobuko had moved to another room. Yumiko was alone as she studied and tried as hard as she could to pass everything they threw at her. About half way through the year, the put her on one of the trips to the human world to take out a few hollows, normally only senior students were allowed on this trip, but she was accepted and put on. The reason behind this is unknown. There was two groups of about five. One was inspecting a different area, about a mile away. Yumiko was in charge of her group and as they inspected they found nothing. This was to test her leadership skills, and rumors indicated that there was no hollow, that this was all just to give some people the experience of being in the human world.
Yumiko's team had made it to the rendavu point, where they were to meet up with the other team. It had been about a minute after the time the other team was suppose to be there. They were late! How dare they! Or at least this is how Yumiko felt about it. Roughly, an hour later, one of the members from the other group stumbled to where her team was. He was battered and bleeding all over! Yumiko ran over to him and began to ask him questions.
"Hey! Are you ok? Where is your team? What happened? SPEAK TO ME NOW!" Yumiko was a bit impatient by this point.
The man grunted and was only able to utter a few words before dying; "Hollows.... attacked.... us.... they all..... di... ed..."
Yumiko's eyes widened. Hollows? Attacked? But the rumors! They weren't true?! Yumiko grabbed her zanpaktou and looked at her team. "We have to go investigate! Let's go!" No one moved. Some looked at her like she was crazy, some didn't even look her way, they were to scared to even think about going over there. Yumiko shrugged and turned around. "I'm going. You guys can stay here. If I'm not back in one hour, leave without me." With that said she was off. She ran off to where the man had came from.
She arrived on the scene where the hollows attacked. All she saw was blood. That's all there was! No bodies, no hollows, just blood. Then, she heard a scream. It came from the others that she had left behind. She gasped and ran back to where they were. She finally got back and saw two of them fighting to large hollows. The other two were hiding like little babies. Just then, one of the ones fighting the hollow saw Yumiko. As he was about to say something, he was hit by the hollow, nearly killing him. Once he was hit the other one tried to go over and save him, but got hit by the hollow he was fighting.
The hollows turned towards the two cowering in fear, trying to hide from the hollows. The began to approach them when Yumiko jumped in front of them. She held her zanpaktou at the ready, ready to fight the hollows. One of them attacked and she quickly dodged and attempted to slash the back of it's mask, but the other hollow hit her, sending her flying. She crashed against the ground hard. Everything started to hurt from that, and then she noticed the blood coming from her arm. She had been injured. The first hollow lunged at her.
Yumiko heard a strange voice. It's almost like time froze for a moment. She looked around. "Wh-who is that? Who's there?!"
"If you wanna live, you gotta say these next few words I give ya! Hehe, otherwise, we are both doomed. Now, say it!"
Yumiko had no idea what was going on, but she had to do this. She held up her sword, in a defensive position. "I hope this works...." Yumiko took a deep breath. The hollow was getting closer, and fast!
"Himatsu Hyosube!" A light blue glow came from her zanpaktou as it turned into water. Before she could even react to how it changed, the hollowed collided with her zanpaktou. She had closed her eyes, thinking that the hollow was going to kill her due to the fact that her zanpaktou turned into water, but her blade was blocking the hollow, just like any other! She was even able to push the hollow back with it! She then proceeded to grin, thinking that there was no way she could lose now.
After a few minutes of fighting the hollows, jumping from one to the other, she was finally able to kill the first one. She stood up straight, but just then she realized she hadn't won yet. The second hollow got a clean hit on her, sending her to the ground. She rolled over and looked up as the hollow got closer to his prey. Yumiko thought it was all over, but just then, a red flash came out of nowhere! It was kido, and it came from behind the hollow. It turned around to face it's new target.
"Now that I'm here, you're done." This was the last thing Yumiko remembers before passing out from her injuries.
Yumiko hastily sat up, breathing rather heavy. She looked around and realized she was in her room. "How did I..."
"Yumiko-chan! You're awake!" Mamoru came barging in with flowers and a 'get well soon' card. He handed them to her. "So, we need to talk..."
Mamoru began talking to her about what had happened the night before. The hollows, the shinigami that died, the ones that survived because of her, and the person that saved her, who ended up being Mamoru. He also proceeded to tell her about her unlocking shikai early on, and describing everything else zanpaktou related to her, even if she already knew it. All of this was hard, but she tried to understand it all to the best of her abilities. Then he was gone, again.
Yumiko finished year five strong, after the incident. She continued to study and learn more about shikai, even though she didn't even remember what she said to bring it forth. This was the end of the year for her, and she began to relax some more.
A bright new day! Not only new day, but a new year! The beginning of year six had arrived! And Yumiko was enjoying being a senior there, it was one step closer to meeting back up with her brother and her two friends. Her classes were easier and no one really bothered her. She was alone, but she was able to talk to her zanpaktou spirit, from time to time, usually when she is sitting near water enjoying the scenery.
Graduation was nearing, and Yumiko ran into Nobuko.
"Nobu! How are you?" Yumiko smiled. She was in a pleasant mood today.
"I'm good Yumiko, how about yourself? I heard about what happened last year..."
Yumiko glanced down for a moment. "Yeah, it was kinda horrible, and yet it was still a good experience. I know five students died, but that doesn't mean we all have to get all sad and mopey, y'know?" Yumiko looked back up and smiled.
"You're right. I knew one of the other ones that got hurt, but not a one of the ones who died. Eh, oh well. So, you excited about graduating from here?" Nobuko smiled as she asked her question.
"Yeah, I am! It'll be good to finally get out of here!" Yumiko giggled a bit and turned slightly. "I should be going, I don't wanna be late." Yumiko ran off to her next class.
It was the day, the final day to Yumiko's graduation day! There was only about 20 or so students that were graduation, all the others either got held back, got kicked out, or dropped out, but these were the twenty, the twenty new shinigami of Soul Society! Yumiko stood tall as they announced the names. Hers was one of the last ones, but they finally called it. After wards...
"Yumi!" A combination of Mamoru and Azumi's voice came through into Yumiko's head. She turned quickly and ran over to them.
"Hey guys! I'm so glad you both could make it! You were both inspiration for me to get through this all." Yumiko smiled to her two friends.
"Good job Yumi. Now you just have to find a squad to go to. I should probably be going, before they catch me here, heh. I'm suppose to be working! Anyway, congrats Yumi, and good luck!" Mamoru gave Yumiko a hug then ran off.
"You've done so good Yumi, I'm so proud of you." Azumi smiled to her friend.
"No thanks to you, and yeah, I'm that good." Yumiko gave Azumi a look of "I'm kidding".
They both laughed and gave their goodbyes. Azumi left, leaving Yumiko to gather her stuff and begin her search for a squad to join.
VI - Joining Up
After Yumiko had found out the truth of her brother (that he died and didn't want his family to know), Yumiko went off in search of a squad to join. She happened upon the third division, where she met a one armed man, at the time of course. This man was Izaya, and he was her new found friend. They talked for a bit before Yumiko left off to go elsewhere. Later that night, Yumiko visited the hot springs where she met two of her other friends, Kimiko and Wasei. They talked and laughed, sharing drinks and food, then Yumiko left for the night. After this, her decision was made, she would join the third.
A few weeks went by and Yumiko found her way to the position of fifth seat in the third division. They held a little party for her, in which she met back up with Izaya. They talked a bit, before leaving and having a private conversation. This private conversation is when Yumiko realized her weakness and fears, and where she also discovered her masocistic side. She asked Izaya something, and it sent him into a different place, and at this point, Izaya bit Yumiko's neck, breaking the skin and causing blood to flow al over Yumiko. Izaya soon woke from his own trance, and he yelled at Yumiko, who took off.
In the morning, Yumiko woke up with blood on her hands. Upon finding this, she went to the bathroom to see why, and she found the bite mark from the night before. Then, a flush of memories, feelings, and even the pain she had felt, flushed over her. She had to go seek help for this, and so she did. She went to the clinic in the fourth division, where she met Izaya's girlfriend (or so he claimed), Kin. She healed up Yumiko's neck and told her there would still be a mark for a little bit.
A few days had went by and Yumiko ran back into Izaya. This time they talked again, Yumiko telling Izaya exactly what happened. He didn't believe her of course, even with the mark still there from that night. Either way, Yumiko mended the friendship of her and Izaya, but how long would it really last?
After this had happened, Yumiko, along with Izaya, Kin, and the captain of the third, Renji, had a mission in the human world. This mission was to investigate the sudden burst of energy that had come from there. When they got there, they found five arrancars and three vizards. One of the vizards was with the arrancars it seemed. They all clashed with their basic equal. Yumiko had clashed with the fraccion vizard, and after the death of one of the arrancar, she was slashed down. She didn't remember much after this. She began a recovery period, in which she had time off to recover.
VII - Growth and Understanding
Yumiko's time in the third has brought her much more strength and understanding of how things are within her squad. Her friend, Izaya, has helped her along the way, allowing her to become stronger. He has also helped her become more serious when it comes to missions. Her acquaintance; Alexei had showed her more training as well. They had plenty of talks and plenty of time in a session of swordplay. This has given her time to become stronger than before. Beyond those few experiences, Yumiko hadn't found much in the way of training. She has met many more people, though she had only met them, and they have yet to play a large role in her life.

Her zanpaktou is around 125 cm or 4 ft. As it is that long, she has to have it slung on her back. The width of her nodachi is 8 cm or 3 in. Her nodachi weighs around 10 lbs or 4.5 kg. The hilt is about 30 cm or 1 ft long. The hilt is wrapped with a silky sky blue fabric. The tsuba is a full circle with her clan's crest cut out in it. The saya is black with waves designed on it. The kojiro is silver with a design on the tip, the design being her crest, although it is hard to see.
Hyosube looks almost exactly like her wielder except for the fact that she has a sky blue skin tone and a blue hair color along with blue eyes. Her hair is loose and long, dangling loosely around her body. She has no clothes, but it looks as if she is wearing full body spandex. Her breasts are a bit smaller than her wielder's, although they stand out due to the whole no clothing thing. Normally, her hair covers her face, which she occasionally brushes out of the way. When she does this, you can see her grinning face, which is always a grin. Her ears are pointed and stand out beyond her hair line.
Hyosube can be deceptive and a bit like a fox at times. She loves playing games and tricking her dear Yumiko. She hardly ever tells the truth unless it is convenient for herself to be telling the truth. Everything she talks about is usually the opposite of what she meant. She loves to interject into conversation in which she does not belong, which is when Yumiko normally makes a smart ass remark. Hyosube loves causing problems for anyone and everyone, which is probably a good thing that she is trapped as a sword spirit rather than a regular spirit.
Relationship to Master
Yumiko and Hyosube do not get along at times, scratch that, majority of times. The argue and fight quite a bit for being a team. Hyosube likes to get on Yumiko's nerves, which doesn't work to well, which in turn makes Hyosube mad and she then refuses to help Yumiko. They can, however, get along when it comes to a fight, but fights are a rare occasion for them to be in with someone other than each other. Yumiko doesn't normally try to be a smart ass to Hyosube, until she tries to get to Yumiko, then it's on, and they get into another fight.
When Yumiko enters this place, it's like an undersea adventure! There is a palace with lights all around it along with giant, coliseum like architecture. The only thing that makes it less like an undersea adventure is the fact that Yumiko doesn't actually swim, she walks on the ground, as if it weren't under water. Yumiko can also breathe while here, even though most would think that she would not be able to when she would describe it to others.
When Yumiko first steps foot inside the palace, there is a long corridor with three doors on each side and a double door directly in front. The other doors are locked, but the double doors are open, which leads to the throne room of the palace. There is three sets of stairs leading up to the throne, which is normally where Hyosube resides. There is a balcony above the throne, which is where Hyosube lives for there is a room there. The throne is a large throne chair with royal red cushions and golden metal to hold it up.
Call Out Phrase: Himatsu Hyosube
Translation - Splash Hyosube
Upon release, Yumiko's zanpaktou becomes water, the entire thing. It stays the same size and shape as the original, just made of water instead. Which also makes it lighter than the original. Changing to water makes the zanpaktou weigh about 7.5 lbs. It can still make contact with regular zanpaktou and it can still cut like a normal sword. The only thing different is it is made of water instead of metal. The hilt remains the same.
- Description of Attack - After this ability is activated, every slash that does not make contact with something sends out a slash of water, which can cut. These slashes are about 6 inches long and about 2 inches wide. Upon contact it splashes water everywhere with around a pint of water. The water is concentrated into the small area that it is.
- Type - Water/Projectile
- Range - 3-5 Meters or 9-16 feet
- Limitation - The main problem with this attack is that it widdles down her blade. When she launches one slash it reduces the blade by 6 inches, which after about 8 slashes there is no more blade. It takes about 2 seconds for it to grow back an inch, which means it would 96 seconds to grow back to where it was. This is a major flaw in this technique seeing as she needs the sword to fight. If she seals her zanpaktou back to original form the re-releases it it will be at the same length as when it was sealed. This attack is easily guarded, making it just a splash of water to the person guarding.
Tiers two below get a major laceration from this attack. Guarding can reduce it's effects on them. Tiers one below can get cuts and large bruises from this, guarding is also an option, but is somewhat difficult for a tier below. Tiers her level get minor cuts and small bruises, if guarded, it's blocked, nothing happens beyond that. Tiers one above get minor bruises from this and if guarded, the attack fails completely. Tiers two and above just get a splash of water, which is really just something that could possibly annoy them, or they could really enjoy, depending on the person, guarding, well, why would they, it wouldn't do anything to them at all.
Se Mizu Kyuu
- Description of Attack - Yumiko holds her sword parrell to the ground and announces this technique. After that, the water surrounds her in a 3 meter by 3 meter bubble. The water is constantly flowing around clockwise diagonally. Trying to touch it would be like trying to put your hand through a waterfall. But the same applies to Yumiko, she can't touch the bubble either, although she can stand in it, which is her feet only, that is the only exception. Yumiko no longer has to announce this move to use it.
- Type - Water Defense
- Range - 3 meters by 3 meters around self.
- Limitation -The bubble has the basic weakness to electricity and can be frozen by ice. These can be the easiest ways to stop, break, or get through the bubble. Fire had the hardest time, but with enough skill, and power, it can get through. Yumiko cannot attack while inside the bubble and the bubble lasts for 30 seconds or until broken. Using this uses 18 inches of the water. Takes the same amount to be restored, 2 seconds per inch.
Tiers two below have a hard time even trying to get through, but can with some work. One below can get through with less effort, but it would still be somewhat difficult. The same level can get through with some trouble to little trouble. Tiers one above can get through this with little to no effort. Two tiers above can break the bubble easily with any type of attack they wanted, even just their pinky finger!

Yumiko stood in the library looking at books. She was told that the only way to find her brother was to begin by looking in the history books. The only problem was that there was so many history books PER SQUAD! She didn't even know where to start! She just dove in and began reading. She was there for days, maybe even a week or even two! Eventually she found one entry:
Friend, warrior, what all shinigami should try to be! Umeki protected a defenseless soul with his very own body, getting killed in the process.
None on record-
Yumiko began to tear up. None on record? Why would they put that? What the hell was going on!? He died and Soul Society couldn't even tell her family?! What kinda of bulls*** is that? Yumiko put the book back and went back to where she was staying until she got a squad. She laid down in her bed and sobbed about her brother, holding his bracelet out in her hand.
A few days later Azumi went to check up on Yumiko.
"Yumi! You here?!" Azumi looked around the room and found a note. It stated that she was going home to tell her parents of the misfortune that had feel upon her family. Azumi took the note with her and went to get Mamoru then go find Yumiko.
They searched around her home, everywhere they could think of, except one place... The lake. Azumi walked up to the lake and saw Yumiko sitting on a rock, sipping on sake while looking out over the lake.
"Yumi, what are you doing? We've been looking everywhere for you..." Azumi placed her hand on Yumiko's shoulder and rubbed it gently.
"He's gone... My brother is gone. He's been gone for a long time, they didn't even say a word!" Yumiko was obviously still hurt about what had happened. Mamoru walked up just then.
"Yumi, you should know... He was the one who decided to put that on there, so you wouldn't be hurt, so your parents wouldn't be hurt... He was trying to protect you."
"I guess you're right Mamo... Thanks you two..." Yumiko stood up and gave both of them a hug.
Yumiko looked out over the lake. It was time to let go, and she knew it was about that time. She took one last look at the bracelet that she had worked so hard to get back, and tried so hard to keep it safe for him. It was time to let go.
"He knew it would of hurt to much... I still loved him anyway. This is goodbye." Yumiko took the bracelet and threw it into the lake. It sank quickly, going straight to the bottom. Yumiko felt more relaxed than before, knowing that she had put his memory to rest, hopefully along with him.
