Moments after leaving Izaya and arriving in her room, Yumiko slammed her door shut. Her back to the door, she slowly slumped down to the floor. The pain that she had held for some time had finally been recognized. Even with this, she still felt it. It was stronger now, even though the pain was in the open. It was as if there was still unresolved feelings. No no, that just couldn't be right. It couldn't! Even with those thoughts, deep down, Yumiko knew it was right. She told him she cared. Was that bad? It had to be. He now knew that she cared. Did he think that she loved him? Is that really even a question? Was she actually in love with him?! No! She just couldn't be!
Before she knew it, Yumiko had started crying, tears flowing down her cheek. She had hurt the one she claimed to care about, and for some reason that caused her great hurt as well. Why was she hurting now? There was no reason for it! As if she were a little kid, Yumiko threw a small tantrum. She quickly stood and threw her nodachi, scabbard and all, across her room. The nodachi hit the far wall and landed on her bed, safely. Once again slumping to the floor, Yumiko held her head, trying to figure out why these thoughts were even in her head, why she was even feeling that way!
"That wasn't very nice Yumi-chan!!" The voice of Hyosube pierced her thoughts. Not only her thoughts, but her very soul.
Opening her eyes, Yumiko discovered that she was in fact in her inner world. Quite the change of scenery comparably. It was apparent that she would now have to talk to that pesky spirit, Hyosube. She didn't have time for this! There was other things Yumiko had to figure out, and being here with Hyosube would just interfere with those things! Yumiko let out a sigh, knowing she couldn't do anything about it. She had to talk with Hyosube, otherwise she would just sit there and wait till Hyosube got bored. That wouldn't take to long, would it? Probably, Hyosube knew how to have fun, at the expense of Yumiko.
Approaching the majestic building, Yumiko walked slowly, loathing Hyosube for bringing her here. "It wasn't very nice for you to bring me here, I have much to do on the outside y'know." As she walked, she looked around, for any sigh of Hyosube. At the moment, she couldn't see or hear her at all. She had to be inside. That was the only thing that made sense. Why would she wait outside for Yumiko? That just wasn't like her. She was probably sitting on that damn throne, like she owned the place... Oh, right, she did. Well, Yumiko did, but Hyosube was just an extension of her.
Pushing the large doors open, Yumiko looked around the corridor. All three of the doors were closed. With another sigh, Yumiko approached the double doors, placing her hand on one. Yumiko attempted to open it, though it just wouldn't open. This door was locked? What the hell was that about?! Hyosube calls her here and then locks the door on her? The fuck. Yumiko balled up her fist and hit the door. It would seem that she would have to try one of the other doors. She hadn't ever been through the other two doors. With a quickened pace, Yumiko first tried the left door. She reached out and grabbed the handle of the door. She began to turn it slightly, before she was able to open the door. It wasn't locked, which was weird, but everything was kinda weird for her now.
Walking through the door, she saw stairs. They seemed to incline slightly, as if they were going to Hyosube's room. That had to be the case. Yumiko followed the steps. After a few minutes, she arrived at yet another door. This door had her clan's seal on it, which caused Yumiko to raise a brow, but she couldn't think of that right now. She was on a mission. That mission had brought her here, and she would open the door in front of her. Reaching out, she could hear Hyosube calling to her. "Ah! You're finally here Yumi~!"
"Why did you bring me here Hyosube!" Yumiko's voice thundered through the chamber, after the door was opened. Yumiko walked in, looking around for Hyosube. This massive chamber sat a giant bed with four tall posts. Hanging from the posts was a bed veil, hiding anything in it, besides a shadow of course. She could see the shadow of what she assumed was Hyosube. Yumiko began to approach the bed.
"Hehehe.. I'm glad you came! I brought you here to test you... Or maybe just because you were feeling down and I wanted to cheer you up.... Hmmm... Take your pcik!" Hyosube moved the veil to the side, stepping out in front of Yumiko. Her hair dangled over her face. She had no reason to grin at Yumiko, at least not in this state.
"Dammit Hyosube. I don't have time for your games." Though she seemed angry, Yumiko looked down and away, obvious that she had bigger things on her mind than playing games with her spirit.
"Awww, c'mon! I took the time to bring you here to play a game, and you don't wanna play?! That's rude! And not very nice might I add~"
Yumiko grit her teeth, becoming irritated more and more with Hyosube. "I don't fucking care right now Hyosube!" Looking up and at Hyosube, it was apparent that she was in tears. She was preoccupied with someone else on her mind, and she was clearly upset, and now she had to deal with this?! She just couldn't take.
Hyosube brushed her hair out of her face for a moment, glaring at Yumiko. "That is most unfortunate. You're stuck here until you play this game." Her grin was almost sinister in nature. Releasing her hair, Hyosube walked to another door in her room, opening it. She peered over the throne room for seconds before turning back to Yumiko. "Once you're ready to play this game, go to the other door, the one at the entrance that you have yet to go through. I'll see ya there~" Closing the doors behind her, Hyosube jumped off the balcony and continued on to the next room.
Yumiko moved to the door quickly, trying to see where Hyosube had really gone. Trying to open the doors to the balcony proved useless, as they were now locked. That was weird. It seemed she had no other choice than to play this game. This would be.... Annoying. Yumiko wiped her face before continuing back down the stairs and to the door across from the one she just exited. She placed her hand on the handle and turned it, opening the door. Looking beyond the door, there was a lengthy hallway, leading to a doorway, but there was no door. With a brisk pace, Yumiko moved to the next room.
The hallway opened up into around chamber, almost colosseum like in nature. Following that trend, a gate dropped behind her, closing off the exit. There seemed to be eight gates, including the one she came from. That was interesting. Did they lead elsewhere in the structure? Yumiko wasn't sure, and she wouldn't have time to think about it, as a shark came at her, swimming swiftly towards her. A quick look around, after reaching for her nodachi, she realized that it wasn't on her back, but across this battlefield! She had to act quickly, otherwise she'd be shark bait!
Raising her hand up and grasping at one of the poles that made up the gate, she readied to move out of the way. The sharks mouth opened widely as it aimed a bite for her. Quickly pulling herself up, she flipped around, planting her feet above the gate on the wall. With a quick exertion of force, she pressed off, landing near the middle of the arena. She took a glance back at the shark, who had recovered and began to swim at her again. She had no option but to fight back, and she couldn't do that without her sword! At least, not against this thing! She began to run, trying to make it to her nodachi. Before she could get to it, Hyosube appeared, picking up said nodachi, and turning the blade on Yumiko, pointing it at her. As she noticed this, Yumiko had to stop in her tracks, or else she would be impaled by her own blade!
Thinking on her feet wasn't ever an issue, though, as she ducked down, going into a slide, and sliding right under Hyosube. It almost seemed as if Hyosube wasn't aiming at Yumiko, but at the shark, who kept swimming that direction until it impaled itself trying to get to Hyosube. The shark's mouth had gotten to her shoulder, though it didn't bite down, probably due to the fact that it was just impaled. Pressing her hand on the snout of the shark, Hyosube pushed it off, the shark floating there lazily, most likely dead.
Yumiko stood up behind Hyosube. "T-thank you Hyosube... You really saved me.."
"I wasn't trying to save you." Hyosube had a smug, cold tone about it, something Yumiko had never heard from her spirit.
"T-then why did you kill that shark?"
"It was in my way." Hyosube turned to Yumiko, releasing the shikai of the blade, turning it to water.
"In your way of what?" Yumiko raised a brow as she took a step back, placing her back against the wall.
"You." It seemed that no more talking would be necessary, as Hyosube took a swing at Yumiko.
With her back against the wall, and an incoming blade, she had to fight back, somehow. Avoiding this wouldn't help that much unless she had some sort of weapon. Again thinking on her feet, Yumiko took a side step, moving closer to Hyosube. The weapon was long, which meant if she was inside the range, it would be hard for her to swing at her. Wrapping her arm around the extended arm holding the sword, Yumiko applied pressure, trying to get her to drop it.
Hyosube was caught, and her only way out was to fight back against the hold. Cocking back her palm, she thrusted it forward, aimed for Yumiko's abdomen. Even if it didn't hit, it would open up the opportunity to strike with the blade. If she just took the hit, a headbutt would follow the palm, though she waited for the response.
Yumiko seen a palm coming. That was bad. Getting hit meant she would be vulnerable to follow ups, though it was better than the sword. Option two seemed better, avoid it, and find her sword. She would have to avoid more than just the palm, in this case. She had to avoid it. With a quick crouch, Yumiko jumped upward, holding the arm to give her a good direction. Mid-air, Yumiko could see it. Her sword was hanging from a chain in the center of the arena. That was it, she had to get to it. Landing nearby, Yumiko looked up, thinking of a way to get to it. It wouldn't be so hard, right? Then Hyosube came at her with a diagonal slash. Yumiko stepped closer, grasping the arm again, though this time she used the momentum and attempted a toss on Hyosube.
Hyosube had swung and gotten tossed. That was just no good. She had to show Yumiko what was important. And this was the only way. Slowly recovering, Hyosube walked back towards Yumiko, giving her plenty of time. And Yumiko would use it. Using as much force as she could, Yumiko jumped into the air, reaching for the sword. As she began to fall, she remembered that she was in water, which meant she could just swim to it. She did so, grabbing the blade and allowing herself to fall back to the ground. Drawing and throwing the scabbard, Yumiko released her shikai as well, glaring at Hyosube.
Now it was sword against sword. As such, they clashed almost immediately. Yumiko's face revealed her disgust for Hyosube, though Hyosube knew this was the only way. Pushing against Yumiko's blade, Hyosube jumped backwards, quickly moving back in, swinging her blade downward. In response, Yumiko brought her blade up to block that attack. With her own push, Yumiko threw back Hyosube, then charged forward, throwing a horizontal slash at Hyosube. It seemed as though Hyosube knew it was coming, as she jumped up and over Yumiko's head. With a another quick step, Hyosube was right behind Yumiko, trying to stab at her.
Yumiko turned her head slightly. There was no avoiding it. No blocking it. All she could do was take it, well that or use an ability. No, she couldn't do that. Hyosube could just cut right through it, for all Yumiko knew. The blade pierced Yumiko's lower left side, spilling her blood in the watery environment. She grit her teeth and grasped the blade, cutting her hand slightly on it. She held the blade there for a moment as she threw her leg up behind her, attempting to kick Hyosube away from her blade. If the sword was pulled out, Yumiko wouldn't be able to last much longer.
Hyosube moved her hair, revealing her grin to Yumiko. "That a girl. Take my blade, accept it." Her words didn't seem to be playful at all. That wasn't normal, or at least Yumiko wasn't use to it.
Then her kick connected, throwing Hyosube away for a moment. Yumiko took a deep breath. She could finish this soon, but at what cost. Her health? She wasn't that worried about it. She quickly took out the blade that had pierced her, holding it in her off hand. She could use both. That would be the way to go. She shunpoed behind Hyosube and started swinging both blades. She continued to try to cut down Hyosube, who avoided each and every swing. Her grin still exposed to Yumiko, never faltering from that same grin. Then with an explosive amount of power, Hyosube kicked Yumiko in the mid-section, causing her to cough and drop both swords. Hyosube picked up both blades and threw Yumiko's to the far end of the arena.
Stepping up to Yumiko, Hyosube raised the blade. "Your last words?"
Coughing and recovering to one knee, Yumiko looked up at Hyosube with disdain. "You... Can't kill me."
"But I can show you who really is in charge between us."
"You can think whatever you want..." Yumiko took a deep breath in. "But I know, without any doubt, that I am in control here!"
"Hmph." And with that, Hyosube swung downward, attempting to cut Yumiko down, thus throwing her out of the inner world. Yumiko stood up, with her arms out wide, taking the cut. The cut was deep, and painful. For some reason, Yumiko didn't move after the cut, she stayed put. She didn't even change, she didn't want more pain, she just wanted to prove herself. Prove that she was strong, prove that she could do anything she put her mind to!
"I-is... That... It?" Yumiko asked weakly. Her words trembled,as she remained still. Picking her head up slowly, she glared at Hyosube. "You do not control me... You don't control my actions... You are not the boss between us! You are... Me. And... I am in control here!" Yumiko's voice became determined, as her body began to move.
Hyosube didn't like this, but this was as it should be. She took another swing at Yumiko, who disappeared, appearing behind Hyosube, kicking her in the back, then quickly appearing in front of her, kicked her upwards. With another flash of shunpo, Yumiko appeared above Hyosube, hammering her down to the ground, slamming into the ground. Hyosube didn't move, didn't even speak. Yumiko landed next to Hyosube. "This is it. I'm leaving now." Yumiko took another breath and looked down, seeing Hyosube's face. It surprised Yumiko, as Hyosube wasn't grinning, but actually had a sad look on her face. It was apparent that Yumiko had won, and before she could ask Hyosube anything, Yumiko fell down, closing her eyes.
Opening her eyes once again, Yumiko realized that she was back in her room. She was also bleeding, though that was not something that bothered her now. She looked up at the ceiling, no more tears falling from her eyes. She now realized what she had to do. She had to move forward. She had to focus on herself, focus on her career. She had to be even more serious than she had recently been. She had to step up. She had to step forward, and that, she would do. For now, she had to go and get patched up. She had to meet a new team soon, for an upcoming mission. She had to be at top strength.
Yumiko stood up, grabbing her nodachi and walking out of her room. These, would be her steps forward.
Before she knew it, Yumiko had started crying, tears flowing down her cheek. She had hurt the one she claimed to care about, and for some reason that caused her great hurt as well.
