Back before the Rukongai had been fully settled, before the white walls of the Seretei were erected, the King himself ruled over all of creation. Desperately he sought to ease the conflicts brewing in the fledgling Soul Society. But even his formidable powers could not stop the souls of man from warring with one another.
Disgusted with his creations, the souls that would one day become shinigami, he abandoned them to their fate, taking those who had followed his ways and ascended to his own realm. These men and women would comprise the Royal Guard, and were entrusted to guard twin zanpakutou empowered with but a fraction of the King's power. However, he placed a curse upon them, damning whomever would pick up either weapon for self purpose to a life of insanity and evil. However, the curse remained ineffective for those that were already insane or evil. Then he left, seeking to create new, perfect life for another world.
Jurei, the sword of life and Oujou, the sword of death. Separate, these two zanpakutou were nigh unstoppable, but combined, they formed a weapon that was akin to the wrath of God. Mokushi, the result of combining the zanpakutou was a weapon that could reshape the Earth, and its spiritual domains; or utterly remove them from existence.
Eventually the draw of the swords powers ensnared the Royal Guards, corrupting them and causing infighting. Each wished to combine the blades and become God, and eventually, the fighting made its way outside of the royal realm.
Those in command of Jurei and Oujou fought with their fellow guardsmen, not only in Soul Society, but Hueco Mundo, and Earth as well. Eventually, the Shinigami of Soul Society, worked in tandem to create five zanpakutou, representing different elements, to combat the two remaining guardsmen.
Kasai, the blade of fire.
Mizu, the blade of water.
Tsuchi, the blade of earth.
Tenkuu, the blade of air.
Chuuko, the blade of aether.
Crafted using the souls of their respective elements.
Alone they were no match, but combined they turned the tide, and prevented the creation of Mokushi. However, each of the blades possessed a drawback unique to its element, and many wielders were forced to pass the swords on, as their immense power was far too taxing.
Then a curious thing happened. As the last guardsman fell before the combined elements, the elemental blades hummed, and then shattered. A small crystal, representing each element, split apart from the center of the destruction, and sent each elemental spirit into a different location, across the spiritual dimensions.
The shinigami who had been debilitated by the swords awesome powers used kidou to toss the cursed zanpakutou into the Dangai, where they would forever be lost.
But legend has it, that the Dangai rejected the swords, and they were deposited somewhere. Nobody can say where.
The Swords:
Mokushi – Ability to control everything and anything. No limitations at all.
Jurei – Control over life. Can bring back the dead as they were, or bring them back as slaves. Can heal any wound, sickness, etc,...Grants the user immortality.
Oujou – Control over death. Can kill weak opponents with willpower alone. Can kill stronger ones with only a slash or two. Creates famine, disease, and drought. User becomes immortal and feels no pain.
Kasai – Total control over all things heat related, or resembling heat.
Mizu – Total control over all things water related, or resembling water.
Tsuchi – Total control over all things related to the ground.
Tenkuu – Total control over the air.
Chuuko – Total control over the mystical energies of the universe.
The elemental blades reactivate once Jurei or Oujou are found. Non elemental users can use the elemental blades, but are more susceptible to their drawbacks. The negative effects of using the elemental blades disappear once the wielders of Jurei and Oujou are defeated, and the weapons return to their dormant state.
Anyone that has wielded the elemental weapons goes through a withdrawal period as their bodies have become addicted to the resonating powers of the blades. The withdrawal can not be healed through and must be waited out. It consists of the worst effects of each blade.
All beings can use the legendary zanpakutou, albeit some with more skill than others. The zanpakutou are never sealed and as such remain in a permanent bankai state, so you can not increase their power.
All players may wield the swords, if they can manage to find them or defeat the wielder of one.
While only the elemental blades can defeat Jurei and Oujou, normal characters can hurt the wielders of Jurei and Oujou, and even kill the wielders of the elemental zanpakutou.
It is up to you, the players to find these weapons and do with them what you will. Save the universe, or tear it down.
Hints to the swords locations -
Sword of Death – The tallest physical point.
Sword of Fire – Where souls burn.
Sword of Water – Water but not.
Sword of Earth – Nigh unbreakable.
Sword of Air – Where white touches blue.
Sword of Aether – Null.
INTRODUCTION
Gin waded through the stone pathway, his boots sloshing in the puddles of blood. All around him laid the corpses of Arrancar, draped in black robes. Their faces were frozen in shock and horror. Of fear. The creatures that respected strength and knew no fear, had nearly wet their pants when he had started the massacre.
Not fear of death. Fear of him obtaining his prize.
Jurei the legendary zanpakutou of life sat in a razed center dias. Its supposed guardians sprawled dead around it, none had even attempted to draw the blade on him.
Aizen had told Gin of the legend of Mokushi, and the two blades it was comprised of. His old Captain and mentor had believed that the swords automatically returned to the King's realm once they were thrown into the Dangai. And Gin had believed him until one of his spies told him of a dark gathering in the farthest reaches of Hueco Mundo, where natural born Arrancar lived.
He thought his spy a delirious fool, but chose to investigate anyway. He was not disappointed. Grimmjow was under the belief that he ruled over Gin, and that Gin was his little toy that he allowed to live. In truth, Gin had become almost as strong as Aizen had been, and could have thrown down the king. But he was far too useful for that. Grimmjow allowed Gin to leave Las Noches, under the guise that he had found new recruits. Which was true, he was looking for new recruits. Well not so much as new, as re-recruiting.
And he had found exactly what he was hoping for. The one object that could send the Soul Society reeling, and help recreate the universe in his mentors vision.
But why imitate when someone could do the work for you?
Gripping the handle of Jurei, he drew the sparkling silver blade, and swung it in a wide arc. Power coursed through him, and had he not already been tainted with evil, he knew the weapon would have turned his desires that way.
Imagining his friend and mentors face, he twirled the blade and a pale white light filled the chamber.
“You've done well, Gin.” came the smooth drawl of Sosuke Aizen's voice. Gin's ever present smile widened, as he handed Jurei willingly to Aizen.
“I think it be time for a homecoming, Cap'n” Gin chirped, following his Captain from the cave.
“But first...” Aizen trailed off, flicking the zanpakutou again. White light once again filled the area, as every fallen soldier of Aizen's materialized around them, shock and awe upon their faces.
“I jus' love it when a plan comes together!” came Gin's overly cheery voice, as the specters of the past attempted to figure out just what the hell had happened.
