Age: Actual – 156 Apparent - 25
Gender: Male
Personality:
Although he is young by the usual Shinigami Captain standards, Ayumo is both wise and grumpy beyond his years. He is profound and insightful, heavily opinionated, and extremely involved in his work, both as the Captain of the twelfth squad and as the president of the Research and Development Bureau. He insists that he is always in charge and in full command of his division at all times and, unlike the previous Captain, he demands that each member of the division is intelligent and suited to serve under him. When he comes into contact with his subordinates, he is usually strict and straight-talking. He says what he means, and doesn’t usually consider the feelings of those he is talking to. Naturally as a scientist he is very analytical.Appearance:
During battle, Ayumo has a very lax code of honour. He believes that no good can come from fighting, and so will do anything possible to end a battle quickly. He doesn’t care for the unwritten rules such as waiting until the opponent is prepared, or only fighting one-on-one. If he gets the chance, he will quite contentedly sneak up behind an enemy and stab them in the back.
Ayumo loves a challenge, and in fact any way that he can prove his superiority over others. Although he dislikes being interrupted in his work, he secretly appreciates it when someone comes to him with a problem they need help in solving.
Also unlike the previous squad twelve Captain, Ayumo will put his work aside to act as a responsible Captain when necessary. Though he makes certain not to show it, he feels the need to fiercely defend his division, and to a lesser degree, other members of the Gotei 13.
Ayumo has a habit of always being active and on the lookout. You could ask anyone and they would tell you that they’ve never seen him sleep. He is either out researching something, in the labs, or patrolling around Sereitei. He is often out doing the latter, simply walking around and taking watch over the area, apparently people-watching. He often visits the Shinigami academy to keep his eyes open for possible future recruits for his squad.
He values his privacy. He keeps the door to his personal quarters locked at all times, and has never let anyone in. Even if someone came to talk to him in the night, he would shut the door and talk to them in the corridor instead of allowing them entrance.
Finally, one of the most prominent features of his personality is a biting sarcasm. He doesn’t usually show this as a method to convey humor, so much as to get a point across. On the rare occasions where his real sense of humor is glimpsed, it is found to be dry, sceptical and sometimes morbid.
A young man with a sinewy build – thin, but with considerable muscles. Ayumo stands at 5’10’’, and has long, gangly arms and legs. His hair is dark blonde, shoulder length, and is always combed to perfection – never a hair out of place. He wears tinted lensed, ellipse framed glasses at all times. His expression is usually one of concentration or brooding, his brow furrowed in such a way that tells everyone around him that they should think twice before bothering him.Zanpakuto Spirit:
He wears the common black Shinigami uniform, but with the alteration of his Captain’s haori, which is the long sleeved variation, with the squad 12 insignia on the back. When he carries his Zanpakuto, he keeps it in his belt.

Above: Ayumo in his current appearance.
Ayumo’s Zanpakuto is named Rakki-Karuto. In a physical manifestation, it appears as a cloud of black smoke that has the shape of a tall man. This smoke humanoid is wearing a formal black suit. When he walks, he leaves a trail of smoke. He can form his hands and head into different shapes at will, since he is made up of an unstable molecular structure.Sealed Zanpakuto:
Appears as a standard black katana, the only differences making it unique are that the blade is entirely black, and the hilt is completely white in colour. The cross guard is white also, and of a plain rectangular shape.Shikai Description:
Rakki-Karuto’s activation command is “Chansu, Rakki-Karuto”. In its Shikai state, its shape completely changes. It appears somewhat similar to the spades symbol in a pack of playing cards, albeit thinner and sharper at the point, more triangular. The hilt becomes a cylinder in shape. The cross guard becomes two long protrusions, one coming from the right side below the blade, and the other extending to the left. In this state, the entire sword is completely black.Shikai Abilities:
Above: Ayumo's shikai.
Aside from being used as a normal sword, Rakki-Karuto’s special abilities reveal themselves when the blade splits in half and opens up, coming to a stop at 180 degrees. In this open state, a thin spike is visible that ran into the centre of the blade.Bankai Description:
Ayumo then takes hold of the bar-like cross guard, and uses this to tilt the sword a certain number of degrees one way of another in a circular motion, pointing the centre spike at the target. Depending on what exact degree it is tilted to, the spike in the middle can release a different kido spell. These different spells range from healing, to binding, and to attacking kido. They are all very powerful, and some of them are unlike any recognizable kido spell. No incantations are needed.
Rakki-Karuto’s most powerful ability in this state is an extension of the above ability. Again, Ayumo fires kido from the spike in the centre, except in this move, “Wareme bareru”, he doesn’t tilt the blade to a certain position. He instead smacks the cross guard and lets the blades spin around. They move very fast, and fire all the kido spells they contain one after the other in immediate succession. The result is a machine-gun like barrage of attacks. The drawback to this ability, however, is that the healing kido spells are also fired along with the binding and attacking ones. He may end up healing the enemy he fires at, or obliterating them completely. It’s all down to luck, and hence the Zanpakuto’s name: “Lucky card”.
Ayumo’s Zanpakuto vanishes, and the area around himself and his enemy is consumed by an impenetrable grey fog. The visibility levels drop severely. An opponent can not see more than a meter or so in front of them. Ayumo, however, has his vision enhanced in such a way that he can see things as though he was the fog itself.Bankai Abilities:
The fog can change its molecular structure in an instant, for example forming solid spikes or a liquid-like substance in an instant. Ayumo uses this ability to bind or attack his opponent, while also manipulating the fog to defend himself. Since the fog completely overwhelms the area around a target, it is able to attack at any angle.Skill Level: Kidou: Advanced
Ayumo controls this fog with his mind, and it moves so perfectly with his thoughts that it could be mistaken as an extension of his physical form. There is a drawback to his Bankai, however. While using it, he can not move his physical form. He can manipulate the fog in any way he can imagine, but his body freezes where it stands and goes into a trance-like state.
In an emergency, he can snap himself out of this trance-state, but doing so will revert his Zanpakuto to its sealed form.
The ultimate attack of his Bankai has the fog form into the shape of a giant humanoid, which then attacks the opponent as a giant man would. It is solid and can cause extreme destruction in this state.

History/Background:
Ayumo was gifted with great intelligence at a young age. He was born into Sereitei, to an average family, and he was a natural scientist from the start. Always curious, always active and out and about. It was no surprise when Ayumo passed the Academy’s entrance exams with flawless marks.RP Sample:
He was entered into the class of the highest potential in the Academy. There, he mostly kept to himself. He worked extremely hard in all aspects of his training, and although he tried not to get involved with others, he attracted a few friends too, who enjoyed his company. Secretly, he also enjoyed theirs.
It was during one of the Captain’s visits to the academy that Ayumo first saw Mayuri Kurotsuchi in the flesh. Kurotsuchi was rather distracted, and clearly didn’t want to be there at the time. He didn’t notice Ayumo, but Ayumo was inspired by him. After that day, he began to read up on Kurotsuchi’s work in the Bureau of Research and Development. He studied everything he had done, and admired him more and more.
As a result of this new fascination, Ayumo began to work even harder at his classes, determined to become the best that he could be, so that when he graduated he could join squad twelve. His one greatest dream was to one day work side-by-side with Captain Kurotsuchi.
This dream was shattered one day when he heard the news that Kurotsuchi had been defeated and killed in a battle with Aizen and the Espada on Earth. At first, Ayumo became depressed that his idol and hero had been taken away from him and the world. Then, after a few days, his sorrow turned to anger. He lashed out at the memory of Kurotsuchi, furious that he had died so selfishly, taking away Ayumo’s chance to work beside him. His friends tried to console him, telling him he died doing his job in protecting Soul Society. Ayumo then lashed out at them, proclaiming that he didn’t love Soul Society, he loved his work and research.
His friends soon realized that Ayumo was a different person to what he was before. They quickly broke off contact with him. Ayumo, in turn went into recluse. He stopped studying, and his grades began to slip. He locked himself away for some days, and nobody heard from him.
Then, a few days later, he returned with a new resolve. He still harboured a hatred for Kurotsuchi, blaming him for his foolish death, but now he had a new goal- to surpass Kurotsuchi in every way. He would become a better scientist than he ever was. He would work hard and become a Captain, and a better one than he ever was. He would train himself to perfection in all the Shinigami arts.
He threw himself back into his work, never stopping for a break, and shunning the people who were once his friends. The innocent boy that joined the academy was replaced by a hard-working, matured man. He soon passed the academy graduation with the top scores, and made sure that he manoeuvred his way into squad twelve.
From there, Ayumo quickly ascended the ranks, proving himself time and time again to be superior to his peers. News of his miraculous intelligence and resolve had already reached the ears of the Captains, who were keeping a watch over him. When the time finally came that they thought he was ready, Ayumo took the Captain’s test, and passed. He took the mantle of Captain, as he always knew he could.
He also knew that his journey was not at an end. He saw it as just beginning. Now that he was a Captain, he could begin to erase the records that his predecessor left behind. He made many changes to the division – including screening the new members so that only those he deemed intelligent enough would join his squad. He also inherited the leadership of the Bureau of Research and Development. Upon arriving here, he quickly fired several workers who he decided were not good enough, keeping only those who would be an asset to the team.
Wednesdays.
What was it about this third day of the week that seemed to inject an additional dose of anarchy into everything around him? Even the twelfth division barracks, which were usually silent and pristine, were in havoc. It distinctly reminded Ayumo of how things were when he had first joined the squad after graduating.
People rushed around, sporting piles of paperwork and messages to be delivered, orders and slips to be fulfilled and filled out respectively. Once or twice, people slammed into each other and there was a paperwork explosion. There was a constant, dull murmuring amongst the men and women in the corridor.
Moving slowly through the mess of people that somewhat resembled a battlefield, Ayumo strolled up the corridor, both undaunted and oblivious to the chaos. He held his hands behind his back, with his shoulders pulled back proudly. At this moment, his thoughts were dark mutterings about how most of his subordinates were taller than him, which he didn’t approve of.
A slow realization dawned upon the corridor that their leader was among them, but instead of stopping in their tracks to stand to attention and salute their Captain, the only reaction Ayumo received was his underlings moving up to him and trying to get his attention.
“Captain Tsukino,” A lad with red hair said, struggling to keep up with him as he continued to move through the crowd. “I don’t suppose you could stop by the…”
“No.” Ayumo grunted. The underling faltered at this blunt reply, and fell back, becoming lost in the crowd.
Another man approached him, again trying the follow behind him.
“Captain, sir, could you possibly…”
“No.”
“Um… right, well…” He fell away.
A young woman,
“Captain, we were wondering if we could…”
“No.”
“Oh…”
Two young ladies,
“Captain, could you maybe…”
“I’m thinking of growing a beard.” Ayumo interrupted, stopping, turning to them and stroking his chin. “What do you think?”
“Oh, um…” The young girl was clearly startled. “…really?”
“NO!”
And he again stormed off, leaving the two stunned.
Reaching the end of the corridor finally, Ayumo turned around to the way he had come, admiring the mess with a grim curiosity. A man with jet black hair approached him and tried to say something, but the noise in the room had escalated so that he couldn’t be heard. Ayumo held up a finger, telling him to wait, and then he turned to the corridor again and took a deep breath before barking orders.
“Squad!” He yelled. “If I don’t see every single one of you stood to attention by the time I finish this sentence, I swear to you that there will all of hell to pay!”
Silence fell upon them, and in seconds the room had divided into two single-file lines, one lining each parallel wall. Every man and woman stood straight and silent, looking ahead.
Ayumo did not show any satisfaction. Instead, he continued to shout.
“If I ever see these barracks in such a sorry state again, whoever is responsible will be playing a very literal and very unfavourable role as a guinea pig in my next scheduled experiment, which as of now happens to be inducing the sensation of drowning to a specimen with a single shot of liquid.”
He could almost sense everybody in the room gulping nervously. He sneered.
“Now go, and for the love of god act like members of the Twelfth Squad!”
Hesitantly, the assembled Shinigami split off from their lines and went back to their designated jobs, albeit slower, more quietly and in perfectly formed lines.
Ayumo turned to the Shinigami who had been trying to speak to him before.
“Sir, there’s been a mishap in lab two-four-three.” The man said, sweating profusely and talking quickly. “Someone induced the wrong element, and there was an explosion, and now the plant is more active than we predicted, we need you to help, please sir, can you come and see?”
Ayumo closed his eyes, took a deep breath in through his nose and then opened his eyes again, etching his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
“That depends.” He replied. “Are you finished acting like a frightened little girl?”
The Shinigami hesitated and stuttered in a reply to the aphirmative.
“Excellent. Then lead the way.”
And Captain Ayumo Tsukino left the room to solve another crisis.
