History/Background:
Age: 350
Gender: Female
Personality:
Akane is essentially the opposite of Hikaru, or at least appears to be.Appearance:
Since they're twins they share some common traits.
Akane is often a cold, sarcastic, easily annoyed woman. She has quiet a temper and is never afraid to give people a peace of her mind. Whether that be with her words or fists.
She is very shy around men, except her brother, who she often physically attacks for his lecherous behavior. Especially when it's about her Captain.
She has deep respect for authority, except in the case of her brother, and is very formal, and reserved when around those ranked higher than her.
She has extreme confidence issues, being constantly compared to her brother. She doesn't resent him for advancing as he did, but when people ask why she doesn't have bankai or why she isn't ranked nearly as high as Hikaru, it tends to discourage her. She's talked with her brother about it, and he's constantly told her to ignore it and work hard like she has been.
However, to anyone in the know, her lack of confidence makes no sense, as she is on the verge of Bankai.
She often seeks him for advice.
Among the common enlisted, like herself, she is often viewed as prickly, bitchy, but overall fun....once they get some drinks into her.
Once drunk, she behaves much more like herself, lowering her prickly and duty bound emotional walls, to be friendly, caring, and sometimes overly confident.
Behind closed doors, she also lets down her emotional walls, but the only person to ever really see the true Akane is her own brother.
Despite her constant bickering and arguing with Hikaru, she has a strong relationship with him and cares for him deeply. Despite what she may say about him to other division members.
In combat, Akane wastes no time. Unlike most other shinigami that gradually escalate their fights, she goes full throttle from the start. She wastes no time talking, or throwing taunts at her opponents.
Usually going to shikai right off the bat, she attacks mercilessly, and relentlessly. Although she has a problem with predictability, and can get over confident and sloppy if she thinks the fight is going incredibly well.
Akane does not dye her blonde hair, like her brother. Her hair extends to the base of her neck, and is usually held up in a small ponytail, with some strands of blonde hair framing her delicate face.Zanpakuto Spirit:
Truly having the appearance of a china doll, it often comes as a surprise when she turns out to be a bristly bitch.
She stands at a small 5'6", and has a fairly thin, toned build. She works out enough to stay ahead of the game, and trains and spars enough to keep on the razor edge.
Her stomach is flat and toned, and her chest is average sized. Nothing to brag about, but nothing to pass up either.
She does not think she's attractive, mostly due to her confidence issues, and that her shinigami attire leaves much to the imagination.
Like her brother, her eyes are a bright blue.
She wears the standard shinigami uniform, with her zanpakutou tucked inside of her robes.
Barentain (Valentine)Sealed Zanpakuto:
Barentain, like Akane is a stark contrast to Fushichou, Hikaru's spirit.
He is extremely quiet, only talking when necessary, and his voice seems to come from next to Akane's ear whenever he does speak.
He wears the all black attire of a member of the Onimitskidou, and the only skin visible is the area around the eyes. Which are pure black.
He stands at 6'0" and in turn towers over Akane. He is very well built.
He's also gay. Very very gay.
Due to her relationship with Hikaru, Akane and Hikaru's spirits are able to meet up, and converse when the swords are close enough.
It's in these meetings that Barentain and Fushichou actually have real conversations, and let down their guards.
Barentain speaks with a heavy lisp, and it was discovered by accident by her brother that the spirit was homosexual.
According to Hikaru, the spirit had been talking about how "He enveyed Hikaru, because he got to hang out with Hisagi aaaaall day, and would kill to have a shot at that man meat."
Of course Barentain remains silent when asked, and Akane refuses to believe it, and cosntantly beats her brother when he mentions it.
Deep down, she knows it's true and doesn't really care.
His inner world is simply a Tokugawa Era Dojo, much like the ones used in Seretei. The only difference, is that everything casts a much more exaggerated shadow.
Barentain is a wakizashi. The blade is tinged pink, and connected to a tsuba in the shape of a spiked, crimson heart, a fake crack running through its center. The handle is crimson as well, and wrapped in black nylon.Shikai Description:
Slit their throat, Barentain!Shikai Abilities:
The blade loses its pink tinge and makes no sound when moving. The user however still makes normal sounds.
Shadowstep: Akane can step into a shadow, and reappear from another. The shadow must be big enough to fit her body. For example, she can step from her own shadow, and through the ground where her opponents shadow is. Possible appearing right beneath the legs of her enemy.Bankai Description:
Every step releases double the reitsu of normal shunpo a few seconds before the step completes.
An example of what she can't do, is appear in shadows of someones uniform, or bent knee's, etc,... Pretty much anything similar to that.
She can not attack while stepping through shadows. She can only step from one to another, not skip over many.
Togire Barentain (Broken Valentine)Bankai Abilities:
Akane holds her blade in front and pointed away and to the right of her body, while slamming her left hand down on the pommel of her wakizashi.
Shadow envelops her form, and quickly vanishes revealing her bankai form.
She wears a skin tight, black jumpsuit, with several basic assassin weapons.
Her zanpakutou loses its guard and the blade becomes pure black, as does the handle. A black, forever extending chain sits at the pommel.
Shadowstep v2: Akane can still shadowstep like in shikai, however she can step through multiple shadows created by her to throw off reitsu tracking.Skill Level: Kidou: Intermediate
Shadow creation: Akane can use her zanpakutou to create circles of shadow to use for Shadowsteps. Allowing her to use her primary ability to its fullest.
Shadowbolt: Akane can fire a bolt of shadow at an enemy, its power being that of a mid level hadou.
Shadowstrike: Akane can launch her wakizashi through the shadows to attack her target, or create a web using the chain to eventually trap opponents that aren't careful.
BASIC WEAPONS: Akane's bankai comes with a few basic assassin weapons.
Garrote: Akane uses this spiked garroted to silently kill targets from behind.
Shuriken: Akane can throw these with deadly accuracy.
The Assassins weapons hold no special properties, and are completely ineffective in regular fights.
Low Reitsu use: Without using any special abilities, Akane's bankai uses very little of her reitsu, while her abilities use a great deal more than most. This makes her perfect for using bankai to pull off hits for the 2nd Division.
Skill Level: Swordsmanship: Intermediate
Skill Level: Shunpou: Advanced
Skill Level: Hand-to-hand: Advanced
History/Background:
Akane was born in the upper Rukongai, along with her brother. Her father was an abusive drunk, and would often beat her sweet and loving mother.RP Sample:
One day, around Akane's 5th Birthday, her father dragged her mother outside and began to savagely beat her. A shinigami had been in the area at the time, and stopped the drunken man from continuing. However, when her father tried to kill the shinigami for interfering, the man killed him.
The shinigami offered her mother, brother, and herself a new home in the lower districts. He said he was of minor nobility, and his family was very kind.
Eager to leave the decrepit 68th district, they graciously accepted the offer, moving into a nice home in the 6th District, South.
Since that day, Akane and her brother were enthralled by the shinigami and constantly aspired to become one.
It was no surprise that their mother married him eventually, granting them a father they could look up to.
But, even though they had escaped the brutal streets of the upper Rukongai, the twins still had to deal with bullies. They called them the children of a whore, charity case, and other horrible things.
Their new step-father had taught them to fight with their words, before using their swords. This was a lesson Akane had trouble following. Hikaru was often forced to restrain his easily angered sister from getting in over her head.
She quickly gained a reputation for being a rather tough girl, and the bullies eventually learned the hard way to leave her alone. Instead they focused more on her brother, when she wasn't around, not knowing that he was more than capable of knocking them on their asses.
Once the twins came of age, the leaders of the house requested that they be sent to the Shinigami Academy, so they could bring pride to the minor house.
Setting off at once, seeking to fulfill their dream of being Shinigami, the duo entered the academy.
Akane excelled at Hakuda, and Shunpo, while her brother was the opposite.
By the end of their time in the Academy, they were both considered average Shinigami, Akane showing a slightly above average knack for shunpo.
She entered the Divisions immediately after graduation, splitting from her brother for the first time in decades.
Unlike her brother, she worked hard to move her way up in her Division. She underwent many transfers and promotions, eventually making her way into the 2nd Division upon learning of her shikai.
She reached the 2nd Division around 150 years of age, and slowly but surely worked her way up in the ranks. She fought hard for respect from her division members, and even had to challenge some for their positions in order to move up.
Some of these challenges, she failed, and had to live with the humiliation and put downs. It never helped when they knew of her past either, once again being branded a charity case and now, a nobody.
People often used her brothers unseated position as a reflection on her adoptive clan. A clan of nobodies.
By the time the Winter War rolled around, she had been working with Barentain on bankai, when the news of her brothers incredible revelation hit her.
She was immensely proud of him, slightly jealous, but still extremely proud. She knew that if he could go that far, then she could.
It just hurt a little that he had never told her.
His explanation had been sound. He liked his position, but eventually felt that it wasn't right to sit around when he could be preventing friends and allies from dying. He knew that if he told Akane sooner she would force him to apply for Captaincy, and when Hikaru didn't want to do something, it took a lot of coaxing to get him to do it.
After that war, she spent more time visiting her brother, and the division members gave her much less shit, expecting her to pop out a bankai on them, defeat their Captain, and then torture them all.
While she was getting very near to Bankai, she rather liked Captain Soifon, despite the fact that the woman didn't notice her. Even when her brother would constantly ask why she wasn't Lieutenant anymore. Even though she never HAD been.
She saw her Captain as a perfect model of what a Captain should be, and while not following idol worship, she did hold immense respect for the woman.
This of course just makes her angrier when she hears of her brothers lecherous advances. Knowing him, she simply doesn't want her seemingly invulnerable Captain to get hurt.
Not knowing that someone else already had.
Akane huffed impatiently and glared down at the 9th Division secretary, the large woman going through paper entirely too slow for Akane's tastes.
Her foot tapped gently against the wood flooring, slowly increasing in speed and intensity. Eventually her foot was just grinding noisily on the floor, as though she were smashing an insect.
"WHAT THE HELL, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO ASK ME WHAT I'M HERE FOR NOT SIT AROUND AND LOOK THROUGH PAPERS FOR FIFTEEN GOD DAMN MINUTES!" she shouted at the poor woman, a vein throbbing in her forehead, and well manicured hands gripping the wooden counter intently, her head leaning over it an into the woman's face.
Several 9th Division members heads stuck out from their assigned work stations, the newer ones most likely, as well as this secretary. Akane had never seen her around here.
She faintly recalled that the Academy had graduated some students recently. These were likely fresh recruits.
The older members of the division however, didn't even bother looking up from their work, all too used to Akane's frequent visits and violent outbursts.
From the end of the hallway, came a muffled voice from a cracked open double door.
"Dammit Sis, you're gonna scare away the noobies, get over here!"
Her brothers voice commanded in a lazy, "that was hilarious" tone.
The blonde woman stalked down the hallway, giving glares that promised immense pain to any of the recruits that dared to look at her.
Upon reaching her brothers office, she closed the door, and deadpanned.
Instead of working on the latest issue of the Seretei Times, he had his feet on his desk, tossing crumpled pieces of paper into a waste bin.
Hisagi of course was doing his JOB and writing an article for Seretei's newspaper.
Sighing in defeat, she sat in front of her brother, and folded her arms. Telling him to get off his ass wouldn't work, but she had to give him some resistance.
"'Sup Sis?"
"I did it."
"Came out of the closet?"
She let out a growl of annoyance, and if his Lieutenant hadn't been so well versed in handling her, Hikaru would have been thrown out the window.
Instead Hisagi had Akane gripped around the waist as she swung wildly at her brother, whilst the Captain just laughed at her reaction.
"No really, sis, what did you do?"
Calming down after a few moments, she sat back in her seat, glaring at Hikaru.
This was what usually happened. He would make a wise crack and THEN get down to business. And she would always try and beat him for it. Hisagi would stop her, and then they would talk.
"I attained Bankai." she stated simply, a proud smile slowly working its way across her face.
The entire office stopped dead. Hisagi's pen stopped. Hikaru's game of basketball (against himself) stopped. A massive, genuine smile worked its way across his face, and he lunged across his desk at his sister, taking her in a giant hug.
"You HAVE to show me! I thought your shikai was cool, but your bankai has got to be hotter than your Captain!"
That earned him a smack and an irritated glare from the girl.
"Baka!"
