With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
The Vaizard lounge was basically empty. A couple of un-hyper vaizards sitting down for a sip of coffee, enjoying there quite time. They all sat out pretty far from eachother, all 3 or four of them were pretty spaced out from eachother, sitting at least 5 tables away. Tenshoku had sat at a table that was closer to the window, which shown some daylight in, although he was one table away from being directly at the edge. The light shown down on Tenshoku's dark hair as he sat down, not drinking any coffee. He never got many missions, and as a matter of fact, he took it upon himself to go out into Karakura town and kill Howllows. He did it for fun, and to save the town that he loved so much. After defeating a few hollows all in a mornings work, he went back to the same place he always went. The Vaizard lounge. There, it was quite and relaxing. No tension, no excitement. Just a tranquil enviroment, where Tenshoku could collect his thoughts and rest. Unlike everyone else their, he never drank the coffee. Sometimes he drank water, but he never drank the coffee there. In front of him a few meters away, he could see a man with similar hair and skin tone to his.
Tenshoku gave his hair a nice flip, then picked up his glass of water. The glass had a plain white background on it, with a red mask that had black eyes. Above it, in blue bubbly letters, the glass was titled, "Vaizards Rule!!"
When Tenshoku saw this, he usually had to refrain from laughing and spitting all the water up from his nose. He never usually laughed, or showed many peaceful emotions, except for when he was in the lounge. In front of him on the table, there was a chess board. Tenshoku didn't play often, it was merely an attention call for anyone intelligent to come and share conversation with him, while playing a little chess. He sat on the side with the white peices. He always did. Tenshoku always went first in chess.

The Queen is the most powerful piece on the board. She can move up and down on Files, back and forth on the Ranks, criss-cross the board on the Diagonals. Hmm... So, that's how you play chess. I wonder, since the Queen is the stongest, why doesn't it over-throw the King? I mean, that's why I would do. Huh, it truely is an interesting concept. L thought as he looked down at a book that he was reading. 'How To Play Chess' was the title of the book. he was about half way through it, just finishing reading the section about the Queen.
He wanted to play chess, since it was the only intellectual game that these Vaizards had. Vaizards. Why did he join them again? They did nothing, but sit around. Oh, he was bored as a Soul Reaper. He sighed. It seemed as though the afterlife truely was as they said it was, boring. That's when it caught his attention. There was someone sitting next to the chess board, waiting for someone to challenge him. L had just finished reading the basics of playing chess. He had nothing better to do. Chess, it seemed interesting.
He closed his book and placed it down beside him. Standing up, he cracked his neck. It had gotten a little stiff from all that reading. He walked over to the chess board and sat down next to black pieces.
"Mind if I play?" He asked, having little to no emotion in his voice.
Just as the vaizard was about to fall asleep, due to a mixture of relaxation, as well as boredem. The man who he had been watching from his chair had sat down in front of him. Tenshoku stared, blantly, at the man who had challenged him to chess. This man interested Tenshoku a lot, and reminded him of how he was growing up as a human, except with a bit of a more matured side to him. The little to no emotion he conveyed towards his fellow race left him open to be many things. A genious, a jerk, a dumby, a wierdo. If he was any of those things, Tenshoku would be able to find out, with how he played chess.
"Sure thing," Tenshoku said, diverting his eyes from the man in front of him to the chess board. He descided on taking a regular approach to this match, moving the 3rd to the right pawn 2 spaces from where it originally was. He did this every match, and it was usually followed by another series of pawn movements, then the horse. As he quickly moved the chess piece, he brought his eyes back to the challenger, and put his hands in his lap. Usually Tenshoku's inner hollow was always nagging him about who he hung out with, but for now, she didn't. Tenshoku didn't get along with many of the vaizards, except for Kai, that was. So he simply made friends with shinigami out in Karakura town sometimes. His inner hollow would usually always be tapping into his head, and nagging him about something, but for now, she was silent.
"My name's Tenshoku Taiyou. Pleasure to meet you..." Tenshoku said, hoping that the vaizard before him would speak up, and tell him his name after Tenshoku had said that. This man however, did seem like the type who would ignore an introduction. However, Tenshoku had no problem with that, what-so-ever.
L watched the stranger make his move. This was his first time playing and he wanted to see how he compared to someone who was always sitting infront of a chess board. He didn't look at the stranger, he merely stared at the chess board, waiting for his turn. He sat in his usual squat-like position, his arms crossed, resting on his knees. It seemed after saying yes to L's challange, the stranger infront of his made his move. He moved his pawn from F2 to F4.
"So, it seems the book is pretty accurate so far. A pawn can move forward two spaces on its first move and only once after that. So, that means that I can move anyone of my pawns forward by two or one spaces. He thought, trying to think of a stradegy. Since he was a beginner at this, he didn't really have any prepared. But, he remembered that he had a stradegy that applied to almost any subject. Mimicing. He would mimic his opponents moves until he sees something that he can do.
Making an invisible line through the chess board in his mind, L thought of the other half of the line as a mirror. His side would be the reflection and like every mirror, things would seem backwards. He reached over to one of his pawns. Picking it up, he moved it from C7 to C5. It was a perfect relection. After making his move, he looked up.
Tensho stared down at the bored for a bit. As he pondered his next move, he heard the man across from him calling himself, "L". Tenshoku wondered if the name was given at birth, or maybe if that's what he called himself. Tenshoku looked up at his oponent, trying to figure our exactly where he remembered him from. It was as almost as if he remembered everything about him, even if only seeing him once. He remembered that same cold blank stare that L gave off, even at a younger age. He remembered him from...somewhere. He just forgot exactly where from.
"Nice to meet you L. I take it that this is your first time playing chess. It's not just that mimicing is a very safe move, usually used by people who haven't formed a strategy already. I also saw you reading that book guide to chess playing. Very affective way of learning how to play. As a matter of fact.." Tenshoku said, moving his horse from B1 to C3. "You probably know more technical strategies then I do, anyways."
Tenshoku leaned over and put his elbow on the table, with his fist on his chin. He wondered how this beginner would play the game. Either he liked to make the first same move as him, or he was a mimicer. He had strategies for them though, as well, which he would probably be revealing as well.
The Knight moves in a straight line, from a dark square to a light square, from a light square to a dark square. It moves up and down and back and forth. The Knight is the only piece that moves between, or over, other pieces. The Knight 'jumps' over other pieces. It takes four moves for the Knight to reach the other side of the board. He said in his head, saying what he read about the Knight, word by word.
Tenshoku had a pawn on F4 and a knight on C3. L had a pawn on C5. So, at the moment, my best move would be to move my Knight, aswell. He reached for his knight, moving it from G8 to F6. Again, his move was a perfect reflection of Tenshoku's. But, it wouldn't be like that for long. L knew that mimicing had a limit and now he had reached that limit. From here on out, he would have to make his own moves.
"Actually, the best way to learn is by actually playing the game."
Tenshoku's theory about this man was correct. He was mimicing Tenshoku's moves, but he wouldn't be able to for much longer. Tenshoku would create a move which L couldn't pass up. He would put one of his pawns in attack range from L's pawn, making it so if he didn't attack the pawn, that Tenshoku would attack his pawn. If L did attack the pawn, then the mirror affect would be over, and Tenshoku and L could play using there own seperate moves. Tenshoku took his left hand off of his chin and grabbed his pawn at D2, and moved it slowly to D4, placing his hand back on his chin.
"I suppose you're right about that," Tenshoku said, keeping his eyes on the board.
When a pawn moves two squares on its first move and comes next to an opponent's pawn, it may be captured "en passant." It must be captured on that move, you can not wait a turn and then capture "en passant." If a pawn moves one square and comes next to an opponent's pawn, it may not be captured "en passant." It is only when the pawn moves two squares, on its first move that "en passant" may occur. L thought to himself, repeating what he read in the book, again.
Tensoku moved his pawn D2 to D4, it was now "en passant" since one of L's pawns was on C5. L had to capture Tenshoku's pawn due to the "en passant" rule. He moved his pawn pawn from C5 and placed it on D4, capturing Tenshoku's pawn. He placed the captured pawn out of the game. He stayed quiet, after making his move. It seemed that if a conversation were to happen, Tenshoku would have to be the one to start and continue it.
Suddenly, Tenshoku didn't care about chess anymore. He moved his pawn that was on the right side of the board. H2 to H4, he moved his pawn quickly without thinking much about it. He had finally found someone to socialize with, and someone who was a bit more like him then any of the vaizards here. Even by the mans lack of speech, it was just that which made him like L so much. Most of what he had seen from the vaizard crew was vain obnoxiousness. They were usually showboating power, or training. Tenshoku couldn't help but to curiositate over this mans mysteriousity. What was this man like? And his abilities, what could they be? He wondered if his zanpaktou was weak, or how strong his inner hollow was.
Tenshoku found most likely that the only difference between Tenshoku and L would be two things. First of all, Tenshoku had a lust for power. Becoming a vaizard granted him that, along with a bit of a curse. The other thing was, L had a bit of a more un-social attitude about things, or so it seemed. If there were to be anymore talk about things, Tenshoku would have to bring it up. Besides, Tenshoku wanted to get to know this man better. He wanted to be friends with him. Maybe a relaxing game of chess wasn't the way. Just then, tenshoku remembered his mom's fourth child birth. She had blantly given away the child, because he shared odd features. Features that were exactly like the man before him.
Tenshoku stood up quickly and knocked a few of the chess pieces off of the board with the back of his hand. His eyes lit up, and a smile curled up across his face. "This chess match is getting boring, brother. How about we fight instead? I challenge you."
Tenshoku could feel that lust for power again, plus an ungained excitement. If he was going to make any new friends, we would make sure that they weren't weak.
"You... Challange me?" He said, kinda surprised. No one had challanged him ever since he became a Vaizard. Why would this man challange him out of nowhere for no reason at all? No... He needed to have a reason. The way Tenshoku acted, the way he behaved, he wasn't the kind of man to do things without a reason. But, what was it? Brother was the word that caught L's attention. Was he refering to him as his a fellow Vaizard? Or... Was it something else. No, he must of been refering to him as a fellow Vaizard. But, if that was the case, why did L feel like there was something more, something that was being kept secret from him?
"Sure." He said, getting off of the chair. He put his hands in his pockets and stood sort of hunch back. His zanpaktou was dangling from his waist, waiting to be released.
