With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
He didn't know why he did it, but he just had, it was like his arms had moved for him. This girl, that had her life ahead of her, but had experienced much, that was who he was trying to comfort.
"No! Don't go in there!"
He still remembered the nightmare, even though he had lied and told her that he hadn't heard a thing. The tall captain known as the Demon actually had another side to him, one that only Yachiru knew. It was a side that cared about her well-being.
But it seemed that he was partially showing that to someone else now, a fact that he wasn't too such if he liked or not.
As she relaxed and placed her head on his chest and arms around he, he simply stood there, not knowing what really to do. Most people were to scared of the tall captain to do anything in response, but that was something that Aoide didn't.
"I'm guessing you had trouble getting in? We just can't go anywhere nice can we?"
He laughed heartily and followed the shorter girl, surprised that she would know where the exit was. Still, he guessed the big red sign above the door could have led the way.
They were successful, easily getting away before the cops had a chance to see them and break up the party. Apparently, they mistook some poor bastard for Kenpachi and dragged him out of the club, only to realize that he wasn't the man.
Eventually they ended up on the roof of the building, overlooking the busy streets. Taking a seat on the edge, Kenpachi grunted as the humans milled about like ants with their excited cries and laughter.
"Meh." Kenpachi grunted, eye trained on the crowd. "To be ignorant."
"Don't look surprised, I've gotten into the habit of looking for the exits of the room when I go somewhere. You'd be surprised how much I need to use it," Aoide said putting her hand behind her head and walking beside Kenpachi, looking completely relaxed, hey who knew if some of those cops were looking for them. Pretending to be innocent could fool a lot of people. "How in the heck are human so unoservant, that guy didn't even have an eyeptach," Aoide commented as they climbed up the fire escape of a building. She sat down crossed legged beside Kenpachi staring up at the sky.
"Huh, the sky in the Soul Society is prettier, must be because we don't have as many lights," Aoide said leaning back and kicking her feet.
"How in the heck are human so unoservant, that guy didn't even have an eyeptach."
He smirked at her question... or was it a statement? That didn't really matter. "Humans are simple creatures. But, they'll surprise you from time to time. Jez look at Ichigo."
It made him laugh, thinking about the kid so damn much. But still, Ichigo was the kid that made Kenpachi have new outlook in life, he was the guy that made Kenpachi realize that he needed his Zankpakuto.
There was not a shred of doubt that Kenpachi had a great amount of respect for the orange-haired teenager. "Huh, the sky in the Soul Society is prettier, must be because we don't have as many lights."
He grunted and looked up when she said those words before deciding to lay down on his back with his legs hanging over the edge of the roof, so he could see the sky fully.
"So," He said, after a few moments of companiable silence. "Is the human world all you thought it would be?"
He looked over at her form, wondering if she was as excited as she had been when they had first gotten here, or if it was just trash.
"Dependin' on yer answer..." He added with a growl, "We'll see if you can come back again."
Without another word, he turned his attention back to the stars and the beauty that they held.
"Yes, it was and more and less. I have to get use to how humans act, they're more abrasive then most Shinigami's, but they seem fun," Aoide said tilting her head to the side as she thought, "And they have dancing, all types of dancing, and music, and food, you can be anything you want to be in the human world and it's not so harshly judged."
Aoide turned her head, tilting it even more as she looked at Kenpachi. He would want to bring her to the human world again? What for, he didn't seem to enjoy it as much as she did, probably because of the lack of people to fight. Her heartbeat fluttered, this wouldn't be her only trip to the human world. Her hands slapped the cement on both side of Kenpachi's chest as she hovered over him, her legs curled underneath herself.
"Yes! Hell yes I want to come back!" she spoke her eyes sparkling as she looked at Kenpachi, most likely blocking his view of the stars, "Coming to the human world and hanging out with you is the best! Maybe Yachiru would want to come along, I think she would like the pizza! Can we Ken? Can we come back to the human world again?"
"And they have dancing, all types of dancing, and music, and food, you can be anything you want to be in the human world and it's not so harshly judged."
"You sure like dancin'..." He raised an eyebrow. "Where'd you learn all that, anyways?"
He didn't think that the academy would teach such things, but then again, he had never gone to the academy. The academy... Sometimes, just sometimes, he wondered what it would have been like to have a normal life there.
... Nah! He could never imagine not going through the life he had been through.
He was so caught up with thinking that he hadn't even noticed Aoide crawl on top of him before his view had been blocked entirely. He had to blink a couple times before his gigai's view adjust.
"... Aoide...?"
"Yes! Hell yes I want to come back! Coming to the human world and hanging out with you is the best! Maybe Yachiru would want to come along, I think she would like the pizza! Can we Ken? Can we come back to the human world again?"
"Okay! Okay!" He said, in a futile attempt to abide her current excitement. "We can come back... and then maybe I can have that rematch with Ichigo..."
A smile grew on his face with the thought. It was up until that going that he hadn't noticed the precarious position that they were in, causing his smile to evaporate almost immediately.
"Umm... Aoide?" He started, not exactly sure of what to say.

"How did I learn, dancing?" Aoide asked, not noticing, the 'uncomfortable,' sound to Kenpachi's voice as she pulled away and looked thoughtful. "I think, when I was human I knew a lot of the traditional dances, but that was about it. In the Yuu family we dance at festivals, but even they have some basics in the traditional dances. Nothing as free flowing as when I was in the club," she was quiet, she had never told anyone about her love for dancing, nor tried to explain it. Why she was showing this weakness to the Demon himself she didn't know. Instead she flopped down on her back, using Kenpachi's side to prop herself up. Also it was a great position not to look at him as she spoke, her cheeks growing warm as she remembered just dancing to the beat.
"Most Shinigami use Reistu, I don't know, I've always used sounds, and sometimes I can hear different music. When I'm able to focus on someone's Reistu, I see the color but also I can hear their songs, I can memorize them then mimic it back, that's how I can heal, most people heal better using their own Reistu anyway." Aoide lifted her hand to the sky so it blocked out the stars, she opened her fingers and watched the tiny dots appear. "When I dance, it's like I can feel all the songs of everything flowing through me. It's like, the perfect battle," she said struggling to explain that feeling, that complete, whole feeing. "I just know when there's music or when I dance, I'm closer to the song."
He was kinda of relieved that they were no longer... breathing on each other, as wrong as that sounded. When she changed position, he didn't mind as much; however, she had laid against his side when his hand was lifted up, leaving nowhere else for his hand to go.
Without really thinking about it, he laid his hand on her stomach, before listening to what she was saying.
"When I dance, it's like I can feel all the songs of everything flowing through me. It's like, the perfect battle, I just know when there's music or when I dance, I'm closer to the song."
He grunted in response, mindlessly gazing at the stars and attempting to count them. It was kind of pointless though. Still, it was something he did when he felt like it.
"Mmmm... sounds a lot like me when I fight." Kenpachi stated offhandly, as if he didn't care that she was showing him her weaknesses. Who knows? He may have not even noticed it. "Most people think I fight because I love it. And that's true... to an extent."
He paused a moment before continuing.
"When I was young... younger then those academy students..." He trailed off, "I hated fightin'."
He laughed half-heartedly, but fell silent for a couple long moments.
"...But the world taught me differently." Kenpachi mused, "I guess if you don't learn ta embrace your strength... You get nothin'."
In his eyes, her love for music was not a weakness, but a strength. People who went with the flow were weak, they lacked the strength to hold their own opinions.
"Goin' for what ya love is and will always be a good thin'." He said before closing his eyes and listening to sounds of the night as they filled the streets.
Aoide chuckled her own hand without her really think about it rest ontop of Kenpachi's as she continued to look at the sky. She was oddly comfortable and relaxed as her eyes traced over the constanlations. She grinned looking back at Kenpachi as he spoke. "Yes, but sound is an odd power. Not many people understand it, let alone the call from it. It's probably why I didn't do well in the Academy, to use my Zanpaktou is a completely different way of thinking and using Spirtual Energy. No wonder all I could manage was swordmanship, and threw myself into it. Every fight is like a dance, hell you've seen Ikkaku and I spar, how we move around each other, dodging and striking, it's a dance to me."
Aoide let out a whisful sigh, squeezing Kenpachi's hand, as a sign it was nice to talk about these types of things after holding them in for so long. She went back to watching the stars again, letting her thoughts gather again, "I've been hiding dancing books, different instruments, and a human cook book in my closet for about a hundred years now."
"Yes, but sound is an odd power. Not many people understand it, let alone the call from it. It's probably why I didn't do well in the Academy, to use my Zanpaktou is a completely different way of thinking and using Spirtual Energy. Every fight is like a dance, hell you've seen Ikkaku and I spar, how we move around each other, dodging and striking, it's a dance to me."
He smiled. Yes, he remembered that fight, a rather close match, but one Ikkaku would've won at the possible cost of the girl's life. The way of the 11th. Kenpachi stopped it due to that reason, there was no need for a corpse, even after such a good fight.
Besides, Seretei needed as many Shinigami as they could, even though it wasn't much help at all... there were some exceptions.
"To fight like a dance..." Kenpachi chuckled heartily, "... that's one of the dumbest things I've heard."
Of course, his smile was giving off the fact that he wasn't serious. When she squeed his hand, if it surprised him, him didn't show it. Inside he idly ran his thumb acros the hem of her clothing in a soothing fashion, something that his brain probably didn't register that he was doing.
"I've been hiding dancing books, different instruments, and a human cook book in my closet for about a hundred years now."
He laughed at that, "Do ya play all of 'em? Or are they just for keepsake? 'Nd cookin'? That sounds... borin'."
He laughed again, his form gently shaking the two of them as they stared up at the night sky. "Y'know, they say the humans are tryin' to get up there. Wonder if they'll ever make it."
"Least I have hobbies," Aoide teased him and stuck out her tongue, "You know outside of, stab stab stab!" she made a stabbing motion with her free hand and chuckled a little. If she noticed that Kenpachi's thumb was tracing the hem of her shirt, she didn't let it show, or mind. She tugged on a pigtail before making a face and sighing, "Of course I know how to play them. Do I really seem like the type of girl that would collect something just to have? I have flutes, harps, biwas, and who knows what else. In the secret of my room in the middle of the night I practice, practice, practice. Hell, I don't know if I'm any good, easier to just sing you know?"
Absentmindly, Aoide traced her own thumb over Kenpachi's hand as she spoke, "Hey, don't knock cooking, it's actually kind of exciting to take so many ingrediants and, 'poof,' youcome out with a lovely little dish. It's like magic...well more like alchemy, but you wouldn't understand. I'll cook for you sometime, that I know I'm pretty good at it. Because with cooking you reap what you sew."
Aoide turned her attention back to the stars, "Up there?" she asked her eyebrows knitting together, "They would need a very large ladder."
