With the Captains suffering casualties and heavy injuries on their side, all hope seemed to be lost... until Shinji Hirako appeared, along with the rest of the former Shinigami. Though the aid of the Vizards certainly helped to draw the battle in their favor, it seemed Aizen's power alone proved too much for them.
"Sometimes, I mean that's not the reason why I hang out at Squad 11 so much. I like hanging out because I get a good workout, you guys are my friends, and I'm generally more comfortable around you guys then my own squad. It's just sometimes you do things, and I don't know what I feel."
"Hn." Was the only sound the large man let out as he let the girl explain herself. His face was void of emotions, not that he seemed lost in any way, shape or form. He just didn't show anything on his face. "But it's silly to even think about it! First of all there's our ranking, I think Captain Baba-chan wuld shit bricks if he even suspected the two of us let alone what the rest of the officer of Gotei 13 would do. Second, I'm a lot weaker power and fighting wise, I don't know I always figure you'd want someone as strong as you, maybe Unohana or something. Thirdly, what the fuck would Captain Zaraki, the Demon have anything to do with Aoide Sato the spazz? Half the time I'm surprised you put up with me, with my rabbling, klutz moments, and when I drink all your sake."
"... Is that all?" Kenpachi deadpanned, almost sounding boared with her reasoning. "I wasn't aware that you had so many concerns."
"Though..." He said simply, "I'd like it if ya didn't just make assumptions about meh."
"Firstleh', didn't I always tell you ta forget about what other people thought? What exactly would the white maggot do? On top of that, what would the rest of the the officers do?"
"Secondly, I jez told you not to make assumptions about meh."
"Thirdly, I'm sittin' right here ain't I?"
He sighed, thumb mindlessly strumming her own as if it had a mind of her own. "So, Miss Sato, I jez blew your logic away. What now?"
"See, I'm just really comfortable around you."
" 'N someone said I'm ain't?" He raised an eyebrow at the girl before him.
Without waiting for a response, the tall Shinigami pulled the shorter one into his lap and to an embrace. Taking himself by as much surprise as he probably did her.
"Look." He said softly, once he had regained his voice. "I ain't sayin' that I have all my feelin's figured out either. 'N I'm willing to give it time."
Resting his chin on the crown of her head, he simply gazed out towards the city below them. "Are ya willin' to do jez that?"
"Well they could.." Aoide began before two large hands wrapped around her waist picking her up and settling her down in Kenpachi's lap. the whole motion made her forget the breath and in such she let out a long breath almost in a panicked manner. His arms were around her, keeping her so close to his chest, Aoide's finger dug into the material of his jacket. At first her breathing was rapid, her heart beating against her chest, pounding to the point where it almost hurt. Slowly, as she grew use to being so close to the Demon, let alone being surround just by him, his strength, his smell, his spiritual energy though dampened in the human world seemed to soak into her skin. She let out a shakey sigh, her fingers detaching from his clothing, and slowly she touched his warm, bare chest.
Death Gods, this felt too right, were the fates having some sort cruel fun at their expense. Aide was still shock, she was sitting in his lap, comfortably, almost too comfortably, had she been anyone else she probably would have been scared out of her mind. Instead Aoide closed her eyes as Kenpachi's chin rested against the top of her head. She was a bad, bad girl enjoying being so close to someone so dangerous.
""I ain't sayin' that I have all my feelin's figured out either. 'N I'm willing to give it time." Are ya willin' to do jez that?" Kenpachi asked, his voice quieter then usual, the odd soft sound made Aoide want to whimper. Not only could she feel the truth in his voice, she also could feel it in his soul, it was an intense feeling, one of the strongest ones she had ever felt from someone.
"I can," Aoide spoke her voice shaking, it was intense, so intense, every emotion she could practically feel down to her bones. To be so close, so close, she was almost afraid to move, "I can wait, we're Shinigami we have plenty of time to figure things out," she added before nestling her head against Kenpachi's chest, finding she rather liked how it felt.
The man could only smile as she finally relaxed into his form, slowly melting into him like puddy. It was so... rejuvinating. He hadn't felt this way in... over a century now.
"That's good." He whispered lowly, bringing up an hand to run it through her silk-like hair. enjoying the sensation that it sent through his fingertips. Uncontrollably, he murmured something about her hair being soft. The whole concept of it made him smirk rather broadly, allowing him to get lost in a world that he was not familiar with.
With her form pressed against him, he could feel her heart beat against his chest, the quick beat causing his to beat just as quick. It was... invigorating, this sensation, to say the least. His senses seem to have been numbed to everything else except for the way she felt and how she smelt.
It felt, right.
Looking up at the skies overseeing the town, he realized the stars had long gone from the sky, and the sun was just beginning to rise.
"Look." He whispered, without really indicating which direction to look at.
It was beautiful, the sun cutting out right above the mountain line, providing light for a sleeping town. It signified a new day, and if Kenpachi were thinking right, he would have disregarded that as cheesy.
But the problem was, he wasn't thinking right. But he didn't mind it at all.
His fingers ran through one of her pigtails, causing Aoide's skin to flush, then break out in goosebumps. Aoide didn't like many peopletouching her hair, it took her a long time to learn how to style it back into her pigtails, and one wrong touch of the hand could easily ruin all of her hard work. It was a daily annoyance having to redo her pigtails once Kenpachi had mussed her hair. But this was different, it was so...gentle? Aoide didn't even care if she'd have to redo her pigtail, infact she reached up and easily pulled the ribbons out of her hair. Her long brown hair, tumbled out of the pigtails, gentle curls caressed her shoulders. To feel his hand in her hair, Aoide's scalp tingled, she let out a content sigh. As he spoke to her, his warm breath brushed against the top of her head, casing her to wiggle a little and chuckle lightly. Had she ever let anyone this close to her in such a casual way? Other then fight, no, she was more reserved when it came to affection other the friendship. She knew she was usually over friendly with many people, but this, it was different. She din't normally connect so many things with such a casual touch and soft words, but with Kenpachi, it didn't seem like the usual cooing that men did to try to please a woman.
"Look," Kenpachi said causing Aoide to quit concentrating on his hand in her hair. She turned her head, then quickly turned her face back into Kenpachi's chest, the sunlight hurting her eyes. She blinked furiously, several times before turning her whole body in Kenpachi's lap to face the sunrise. Her legs dangled off of the side of the building, her back leaned against Kenpachi's chest. Meanwhile, her one hand rest on Kenpachi's hand that was around her waist, while her other hand reached up and cupped the back of his head. She watched as the sky exploded into different colors, her eyes widening a little.
"Beautiful," she said softly, watching the vibrate colors, they reminded her of the different colors of Reistu. Maybe that's what sunrises and sunset were, a call to nature from everyone with theur Reistu...maybe not, but it was pretty. "Mmm, thanks Ken," she then said looking at him and smiling, the back of her hand running down the side of his face and neck before removing his hand from her hair and her much smaller finger entwining with his, "I think I really like the human world," she said with a pretty smile her cheeks flushing a little.
As Aoide allowed her hair to unfurl, he could do little else other then smile and stroke the full length of her hair. Unlike a man's hair, which was coarse, her hair was truely one of the softest things his calloused hand had touched.
Heck, the only thing that matched that was Yachiru's hair, and she still have the youthful life in her hair that... once one lost they could never retain.
Once again, he could do nothing then smirk at her antics as she tried to refocus her eyes on the growing sun. It split through the earth with a shining light that no one really had yet to explain. Though, human scientists had said something about it's nature from time to time.
"Beautiful."
He looked down at her, chin leaving the crown of her head for a moment. It really was, a beautiful scene. If one were to capture a picture-perfect moment, this would be it. A moment where fighting was no longer his top priority, where the demon found someone that wasn't afraid of him, and a moment in which peace could be found.
Che. He mentally berated himself. I'm goin' soft or somethin'. The moment I get back, I'm gonna be runnin' the squad through some suicide drills. "Mmm, thanks Ken, I think I really like the human world,"
"Hmm?" He raised his eyebrow, looking down at her smiling face and their hands together. "Yea... I think I like it too."
Turning his attention back to the sunrise and the streets below, he watched as the humans began their daily lives, milling about like ants with a purpose in mind.
"Think we might be comin' back a bit more often eh?" Kenpachi smirked down at her, thumb brushing over her own.
Besides reliving this moment would be like a dream.
"Yeah we diffiently have to come back to this spot and watch the sunrise more often," Aoide agreed and the sighed closing her eyes. There was something almost theraputic about having Kenpachi's rough hand run through her hair. She didn't realize the irony to being so relaxed arund someone called the Demon, all she knew was that this was the best feeling she had ever felt. But there was a nagging feeling, like she had forgotten something.
It continued to nag as she lifted Kenpachi's hand, letting his palm face her as her finger traced the many lines. Her fingers tingled from the contact, her cheeks stillheld a slight blush as her fingers entwined with Kenpachi's again. This was amazing, better then fighting, better then paperwork. "Ken, I'm so.." Aoide stopped her eyes widening at the thought of the Soul Society, "Shit, we gotta go, Captain Baba-chan put me on morning training and then afternoon patrol!" Aoide said leaping to her feet, "You have no idea how that vein on his forehead pops out when you're late," she held out her hand to help Kenpachi up.
"Yeah we diffiently have to come back to this spot and watch the sunrise more often."
He smiled and pulled her tighter in to his embrace, strangely enough, never wanting to let go. The moment was far too serene to be broken at all. What time was it anyways? Those kind of details didn't matter, but it was still kind of late... or early.
They hadn't even gotten any sleep.
He was so relaxed that he, too, closed his eye and allowed the sun to bathe the both of them. He let out a contented sigh, not really wanting the moment to end.
"Ken, I'm so.."
When she paused, said man opened his eye curiously and looked down at her. "Hmm?"
"Shit, we gotta go, Captain Baba-chan put me on morning training and then afternoon patrol! You have no idea how that vein on his forehead pops out when you're late."
He wasn't about to lie and say that when she jumped up, he had felt strangely empty. But that was something he would never admit out loud.
"... I guess you're right," Kenpachi sighed and too her hand, barely using the support to pull himself up. "Hn... no one's around, so I guess we can open the gate here."
With that, he split the gate open using the hatch that led to the roof. Slinking his arm around Aoide's waiste, he simply smiled. "Ikkaku'll never let me hear the end of this, ya know?"

"Shit, you're worried about Ikkaku? What happed to not caring what people think, you're getting soft Ken," Aoide joked before letting out a small sigh as his hand reached out and wrapped around her waist as they walked. "Eh, but you're right, I hope he doesn't freak out or anything, he's a pretty close friend and all," she said wrapping her own arm around Kenpachi's waist as they walked. She glanced upward, Kenpachi Zaraki, she was with Kenpzhi Zaraki, his arm was around her waist. This was too surreal, was she going to wake up from this, or possibly fall off the building to wake up. What did he find in her, little Aoide Sato, she could barely control her Spiritual Energy and was no way his level at swordmanship. So why? But still as he looked down at her, with one eyes of course, she couldn't help but blush and smile back up him as a comfortable warmth spread through her body.
