General Information
--------------------
Name: Ishiki Ohayashi
Actual Age: 300
Appearing Age: 30
Gender: Male
Appearance
Ishiki stands at about 5"11 weighing in at 170 lbs. His complexion is darker in tone and due to his constant gardening and love of the outdoors, he has a rugged appearance. He has longer, unkempt dark-green hair; which sometimes will contain stray leaves or the occasional flower. His eyes are a deep amber with darker hues and oval in shape. His nose is short and button like and his lips are thin and expressive. He has a chin-strap beard that's thick and reaches from sideburn to sideburn.
Ishiki's garments usually consist of a short-sleeved Kosode, with no under shirt so that his chest is free to feel the breeze. The edges of the sleeves are roughly torn, leaving his muscled arms free. He wears tanned leather, fingerless gloves that run part way up his forearm like bracers. Wrapping around his waist; instead of the traditional obi, a thick vine holds his garb together. His umanori are equally cut-off short around the knees leaving the rest of his muscular legs exposed. Furthermore, he wears no tabi or sandals and prefers being bare-foot to remain closer the soil that, "enriches" his life. As such, Ishiki's feet and legs are always stained or caked in dirt. It is also evident when in the presence of Ishiki one catches a feint earthy aroma.
Personality
Ishiki is a dedicated man. He tends to be soft spoken and observant at first, gauging others personalities before opening up to them. After getting an idea of a person's disposition, Ishiki is quite friendly and very fond of all people. Ishiki has a profound love of the outdoors, and a green thumb where farming is concerned. His passion for plant-life and agriculture run as deep as the roots he tends to daily. He believes the plants, like human, have their own personality and quirks and thus treats them as such. Also, Ishiki has a fine love of teas and grows various tea plants to create, "the perfect brew" in his eyes. Sometimes he will be seen talking to the plants as if they were any other person.
Ishiki is reserved, and tends to not let anger get the better of him, most of his actions are thought out before they are taken. In battle, he prefers strategy over reckless behavior or brute force. Calculating when to strike and when to hold back are the trademarks of a skilled warrior in his eyes. Off the battlefield Ishiki likes to keep busy, when forced to stand still his hands will constantly be moving about, tapping his pant legs or clicking his fingers.
Also, a lesser known fact about Ishiki is his claustrophobia which he endeavors to keep under the radar, but these kinds of things tend to get around. Aside from his serious issues with enclosed places, Ishiki has a soft spot for all life and thus those who disregard it or kill without purpose disappoint him.
History
In life, Ishiki grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth. His family was wealthy; not money that was earned, old money that had been passed through the bloodline from father to son. His father was the doctor of their families’ village. He would tend to the wounded warriors of the village, as well as the elderly or the sick. The Ohaiyashi family was well respected in their village.
Sadly, it would not always be this way. There was a mysterious case that had taken hold of one of the children in the village. No medicine or matter of healing his father could think of would work. They struggled for weeks before the poor lads will to keep fighting fleeted in the night. Their family was torn and Ishiki’s father was filled with shame and doubt in his old abilities. His heart began to fill with doubt, he stopped trying to take care of the needs of the fellow villagers. It wasn't long before their names were slandered, their money had all but dried up, and soon the sins of the father would afflict the son in the worst possible way. Ishiki, who was now in his early twenties, and striving to piece back together the family ties that had been broken. Was now the target of a tired, desperate man who had lost his only son to the famed healer of their villages incompetence. The man sought out vengeance an eye for an eye, and a son for a son...
After his death Ishiki wandered, visiting his family and grave site of the boy whose life had been lost to his father's product. Shame and regret began to weigh heavily upon him, it ate at him and the more he meditated on it the worse it became. Furthermore, he couldn't shake the sensation he was being watched, that something out there knew about his lonely existence outside his body. Eventually, when Ishiki was at his wits end, a woman in a black robe approached him. To his shock, she could not only see him but talk to and understand him. She calmly, and kindly listened to his story. She told him to let go of what had happened, that she was there to help him, and that his next journey would be to a place called Soul Society.
In East Rukongai, district number forty-two, Ishiki was accepted into a family of farmers. They worked hard and made an honest living. They instilled in him many values: use of good judgment before acting, protecting the weak, and a respect for all life. As he worked there, he developed a deep passion for the plants he worked with. Developing a technique of his own to help the botanical life blossom around him. Still, Ishiki had a hunger he couldn't seem to quench. One not only for food, but a desire to be better. He wanted to help his new family prosper, but hadn't the means to do so until one night when he expressed his feelings. The response he got was surprising, they explained to him a school, where he put his work ethic to good use. To focus his drive not only on physical labor but bettering one's mind. They'd convinced him to go to this, "Shinigami Academy" and take the exam. What was there to lose?
Ishiki took the entrance exam and managed to place in the sixth class. He did well in combat classes but found it hard to grasp kido. He made friends easily, and much of his time was spent in study. Ishiki loved books and found himself pouring over them in the library for hours on end. No matter how much read about or practiced however, the concept of kido just never seemed to work for him. So Ishiki decided to work on some the things he was already good at and become even better at them. He was second best in his class at endurance training, something he was quite proud of. He didn’t mind being the best only in doing the best he could. Also, paper tests that involved homework, he absolutely loved. If it was something that involved memorizing he was your man.
A few years later, towards the end of his stay at the academy with the finals fast approaching; Ishiki’s mind swirled with doubts. Though he appeared to be a promising youth, he did not manage to graduate with the rest of his class. He exceeded expectations on the written exam, but when it came to the physical exams, he was not as able. Ishiki tended to lean towards support; he didn’t want to actually hurt anyone in his class. His abilities and techniques were subdual and non-lethal which some viewed as weak. What truly made him stay an extra year however, was his inability to be as successful as the others with that mastering of kido. Something to this day still brings him great shame.
Upon graduating, Ishiki was asked how he felt about joining the 4th squad, although his kido was weak and needed much improving, he showed a lot of knowledge when it came to herbs and salves. He had a knack for procuring these things from plants. He promised from that day on he would train harder with kido and make himself worthy of such an honor.
Some time had passed since his graduation from the academy. While out gathering herbs and tea leaves, he happened upon an under-nourished sapling amidst giant trees, whose roots ran much deeper then it's own. Such a sight struck a chord within him. He remembered the farm whose lessons had not left him, but their time together had seemed so long ago. He felt a connection with this sapling, being left behind by his family and friends, not growing as quickly as the others. He decided that day that this tree would be a side project, his home away from home.
Every day, between his studies and exams, Ishiki would visit the sapling. He helped nourish and cultivate it, working for hours to make sure it had plenty of water and sunlight. Strangely enough, he would talk with the sapling: describing his days at the school, his victories and his failures. Somehow he felt a connection with it. Soon enough, through hard work and dedication, the sapling had taken on a lively color once more. Both he and the plant had begun to grow together.
Time passed, and the once undernourished tree now provided shade, and a most comfortable napping location. Soft moss grew around its base and wildflowers radiated color around it. Life had blossomed where death had once held a vice. Ishiki rubbed at his bearded chin, and placed his hand proudly on the tree he’d helped recover. He felt at peace, and sat down beneath its branches to fall into a deep slumber.
He awoke to the sweet aroma of pine and cedar, though his vision felt blurry at first, everything slowly moved into focus. Ishiki was surrounded by a multitude of trees. First he noted there shaping was different, and it varied from tree to tree. Looking closer, he was surprised to see that the trees had faces that seemed to express personalities and emotions. Weeping willows that were actually weeping, Evergreens with their color everlasting spread envy among others. They seemed to mouth words to him, though Ishiki couldn’t hear. The trees’ branches seemed to be motioning along a path deep into the forest.
Ishiki felt compelled to follow their direction, a path that twisted and turned in this forest. Like a living hedge maze, not just in the normal biological sense, more like a child playing a game of hide and seek. All of the plants had faces, flowers lolled in the warm breeze, enjoying it thoroughly the way Ishiki felt about all life. His feelings had somehow solidified itself in this place and Ishiki was hypnotized.
The winding path led into a clearing of bright light, piercing its way through the canopy in brilliant rays. Ishiki was still cautious; though beautiful this place may be, not everything was as it appeared to be. The clearing opened before him revealed scattered wild flowers. They seemed to know him, as whispers of wonder and welcome flitted through the air. Ishiki knelt down to observe the flowers, when suddenly a loud voice erupted just ahead.
“Greetings Ishiki, I am Eien No Daiki. I wondered when I’d be seeing you.” The voice boomed through the forest, jolly and full of life, it shook the ground Ishiki stood upon. He fell to one knee, caught off guard from such a tremor, and as Ishiki looked up, his jaw dropped in awe. The being that spoke towered above him, a large, twisted white oak. Ishiki was amazed as he looked upon it. Two trunks that were its legs had roots dug deep into the ground where it stood. They bent further up, and higher still, joined near what would be a man’s waist. The bark contorting and twisting together to form its sturdy and stocky core. From there branch like arms extended from the sides. Overhead, wrinkled with bark and moss like hair, a gnarled face eyed him intensely, then lit up with a boisterous laugh that echoed across the clearing.
It reached down to Ishiki’s surprise and plucked him up to his feet by the back of his robes.
“Walk with me Ishiki.” Then it turned and stomped across the clearing careful to avoid its fellow plant life.
“How is it you know me?” Said Ishiki, confusedly following the tree-like being.
“Because of you, this place exists. Your patience and care, your respect for all life. Because of you, I live. You saved me and shared yourself. Now that you can hear my voice I can share myself with you.”
They came upon a sturdy sapling, shooting up from the earth about 7 feet tall. Eien No Daiki carefully uprooted the sapling in front of Ishiki, he pulled the sapling close to his face and whispered a few words before closing his eyes and blowing a green-yellow mist upon the sapling. Almost immediately, it began to twist and contort. The roots reverted inward enclosing one end with a twisted thread-like pattern. The other end brandishing branches and a few leaves retracted as well, leaving nothing in its wake but a single vine which then, slithered up the branch and constricted itself tightly around the middle of the sapling, leaving an elegant Bo Staff where the once sturdy sapling was. Eien No Daiki then leaned down and presented the beautiful Bo Staff to Ishiki. Amazed and bewildered at it all, Ishiki accepted the gift most graciously and bowed to the spirit.
“Remember that a true warrior is one that respects life, one who is patient and can wait for the right moment as a flytrap awaits his next meal. A warrior who is prepared to accept change as often as the season’s do. Remember when you need help to let your courage flourish.”
As the last words slowly poured from Eien No Daiki’s mouth Ishiki was drifting away, the sounds becoming muffled and the rest was silence. Then all color faded from sight, shooting upward into darkness. A single beam of light appeared above him, as soon as he was to crash into the light… Ishikis eyes opened and he snapped up, beads of sweat were pouring from his brow. He looked around bewildered, trying to catch a glimpse of Eien No Daiki, but he had vanished. In his frantic movements, a soft thud sounded in his ears as a stick that was leaning against the tree he slept upon, fell on his head. Annoyed, Ishiki rubbed his head and looked down on the ground. The Bo Staff from his dream lay there next to him very real and beautiful as ever.
As soon as Ishiki grabbed it up, the staff felt warm and at peace. The vines began to spin and twist as a soft green glow encased the staff, it retracted into a Wakizashi. Ishiki than sheathed the blade at his side, stood up breathed in the fresh air as he watched the sun slowly set over the field.

One end, where its roots once were buried deep into the ground have henceforth retracted and left a coiled and twisted cap on its base. Shikai Abilities
Evergreen Cage
- Description of Attack – Ishiki stabs the staff into the ground and over the course of 10 seconds, 4 wooden vines grow out of ground in a 10 foot radius around a target. The vines meet at the top creating a basic wooden structure. As soon as the vines meet and wrap together, small green translucent leaves (3 inches long and about the shape of holly leaves) begin shooting from vine to vine. The leaves are razor-sharp and can either ensnare or protect someone.
- Type - Ranged, Holding, Shielding
- Range - 30 ft
- Limitation - Uses 25% of Maximum energy, Cannot extend past 30 ft. Not as effective at holding targets larger than 10 ft. Vines take 10 seconds to grow giving a short window of escape before they bind at the top.
Due to the nature of the razor-sharp leaves targets may be cautious about braving the trip in or out. The vines can be broken to limit how the leaves move but this takes more time. The leaves can be blasted out of the way and leave a larger opening in their path making it safer to cross.
If a target were to attempt to get out, but stay within the field of razor-like leaves they would continue to be cut by them, but the leaves aren't large enough to say, sever a limb, more likely it would cause numerous cuts to those who stayed in the field.
Power tier’s equal to his own can attempt to move through the leaves with some risk of being cut. Those 1 tier higher than his own can slash their way through or blast through with little effort . Those more than more than 1 tier higher can blast their way in or out with a short Reiatsu burst or pass through the leaves with little difficulty. Those 1 power tier lower may wish to be more cautious, the leaves may be too fast to just risk moving through. With a little more effort they can fight their own way through. Those who are 2 or more lower have a high risk of being cut by the leaves. The cage lasts 1 minutes straight per use of the power, unless the power is ended or the cage is destroyed before hand. If the cage is used as a shield the same rules apply from the outside of the shield in terms of vulnerability of the cage.
Soothing Breath of Eien No Daiki
- Description of Attack – Not an attack, Whilst target is in the Evergreen Cage, Ishiki can choose to assist their healing process. Upon which, flowers Sprout from the vines inside the cage and release a golden pollen. The pollen itself has the healing properties to stop bleeding, slowly sooth burns and remove bruises, and increase the speed at which more serious wounds are healed, but only slightly.
Serious wounds would include by not be limited to: Broken or cracked bones, torn ligaments, fatal stab or slashing wounds, severe burns etc.- Type - Support/Healing
- Range - 30 ft
- Limitation - Evergreen Cage has to be activated, Uses 5% max energy/minute. Which the flowers petals fall, and the vines return to the Bo Staff. This is in no way an “instant up”. As stated above, it only increases the speed of healing slightly.

It was a long night for Ishiki; he tossed and turned in his bed as his mind remained in motion. Conversations and glimpses of the day flashed and swirled creating chaos in his mind, he pulled his pillow and enveloped his face with it as he muttered to himself, “Hush you, we have all the time in the world to be active. Now is not the time. Sleep.” He repeated over and over in his mind letting the words sink in slowly. Eventually, his mind decided to let the images cease, the pillow slowly fell from his face to reveal a snoring and drooling Ishiki. A sleep that would for at least a few hours.
It was cold out, the sun had yet to rise and vaporize the chilled dew drops on the plant life just outside his home. Ishiki rose and stretched with a yawn, as several bones snapped and cracked Ishiki let out a sigh and rubbed his sore back. “Another day brings another opportunity.” He said finally with a grin on his face. He slowly put on his favorite work outfit, tattered and cut, perfect for a day that would be heated by the suns brilliant rays.
He drug himself to his belt which hung on the wall by the door and fastened it around his waist, sucking in lightly and patting a slowly developing gut. Admitting rather unhappily, “I’m gonna have to train soon to work you off my most formidable foe.” He said with a light chuckle. He leaned his face over the small bowl of water on the side table by the door and leaned forward, scooping up some of the water in his hands and splashing it against his face several times before rubbing his eyes and examining his face. “As good as it’ll get.” He said sarcastically. With that, he grabbed a decent sized vase filled with water and threw it over his shoulder. He trudged out the door to meet the day.
Sweat poured down his brow as he tended to the garden, several hours had passed since he’d awoken and now the sun’s light warmed the earth, the once chilled dew drops now released the plant life from their icy grips and the small of freshly turned earth wafted heavily through the air. As he was tending to the flowers of his garden some of the younger girls from the academy began to pass his garden, on the way to the academy for their classes. He grinned as he liked nothing more than young and beautiful youth. He smiled as they approached and complimented his garden.
“Oh my Mr. Ohaiyashi, your roses are so beautiful this time of year!” one of them exclaimed.
Full of confidence Ishiki smiled and scratched the back of his head fervently. “Please ladies, call me Ishiki, and as for my flowers, their beauty pales in comparison to such gorgeous women.” He said nodding up and down scratching his beard. He leaned forward toward one of the bushes and clipped a rose for each of them. “Please girls, take these as a gift of the season.” As he began to hand them each out and the last girl came to collect hers Ishiki suddenly, (lost his balance) and fell face first into the bosoms of the young girl. They were soft and warm and Ishiki grinned as his mind drifted off. Sadly, back in reality the girl wasn’t as pleased and shrieked. “Ewwwwwe!!! Get this pervy old man off me!” Her elbow lifted up and then dropped down hard against his head. “The girls shrieked and ran screaming about how much of a perv old man Ohaiyashi was. Leaving his face planted on the ground his mind somewhere else and the roses strewn across the soft earth.
